  • "Although we were a party of 4, the servers made no attempt to coordinate the arrival of our entrees. Two arrived first, the ravioli one already cold. 5 minutes later came the third entree, but we had to flag down our server, who was busy wiping glasses at the bar, to ask when the fourth dinner might be served. What's the protocol for lifting one's fork in such a situation?"

  • "We had brunch this past weekend at Luccas. our previous dinner experience last year was marked by poor service but we decided to give them another chance. After placing our order, it was at least 45 minutes before our entrees appeared. My friend's french toast was cold and needed to be sent back. It was a challenge getting a refill on our drinks. never again!!"

  • "First time dining at this restaurant and, I must say, that the first impression was excellent! The food was fantastic and the waiter did the one thing I asked on my OpenTable profile, to be attentive to my daughter. A very simple request but, surprisingly, only a total of three restaurants have actually gotten it right so far. The food here is fabulous. I never would have expected it but, we decided to try this restaurant and were very pleasantly surprised. We will definitely be coming back."

  • "This was a pretty good deal on restaurant week. The starters were great -- the French Onion soup was AMAZING!! The salad was delicious too. I was a little disappointed with my entree choice of the sole because it came baked in crumbs which I was not expecting. My boyfriend chose the pork chop -- much better! We both had chocolate creme brulee for dessert and it was just ok. Didn't even finish mine - it did not have the nice crackly crust on top I love so much. A good creme brulee can make me moan -- but that did not happen here! The service was just OK -- they were VERY busy. I will go again when it is not restaurant week to see if the food/service is better."

  • "Had a pre fix meal on the last day of restaurant week at a birthday lunch for 6. Sat on the covered patio. The food was delicious - hearty vegetable soup, a grilled Scillian albacore sandwich on chibatta and tasty lemon square for dessert. Didn't leave a scrap! My second visit to Lucca. The service was not up to par this time. Not sure if they were understaffed or? But it took a long time to get beverages, order and food. But I will be back - definitely tasty."

  • "I don't know if Lucca was having an off day, but our service was sub par and slow and the sandwiches we ordered came out on soggy buns. Plus, I couldn't taste the lamb on my sandwich because it was overpowered by both lemon peel comfit and some sort of tapenade. This was our first time there for lunch, and I am not sure when or if we'll be returning."

  • "As always, we enjoyed everything that we ordered. Foods are always very nicely seasoned. Portions small, but adequate. I am not a fan of over-sized portions, and it's good to be left wanting for more, but perhaps a tiny bit larger would be good!"

  • "LUCCA for brunch, enticed by OC Restaurant Week menu. Thank you OC Restaurant Week, but it was like entering the Twilight Zone of service. Had made a reservation, but stood at hostess station for 10 mins. after reservation time. No hostess present. We were seated outside & our server looked attentive, but constantly repeated the same questions after having received our responses several times. She sneered when asked for a new glass of water to replace the one with the lipstick on it. We noticed a whipped cream garnished dessert being being shuffled from table-to-table. 10 minutes later it showed up at our table pretty used looking. Server said she thought we ordered it. 1/2 our party left before the 35 mins it took to run our card."

  • "My boyfriend and I decided to try LUCCA during OC Restaurant week and ordered their $30 Dinner menu which included an appetizer, entree and dessert. Appetizer: We both got the French Onion Soup, which was probably the best part of our meal. Entrees: The Beef Wellington was good, nothing special, but the portion was tiny. The Raviolis were pretty large, but you only get 2 of them, and they did not really have any taste to them. Dessert: We got the Affogato and the Creme Brulee, both decent, but I wasn't blown away by either. Overall, the food was okay. We ended up spending about $100 including 2 glasses of wine and we were both still hungry in the end. I probably won't be coming back here again."

  • "Have eaten at Lucca numerous times and this was restaurant week. Food is always outstanding and wine list (with 25% off for restaurant week) was great. Seating is a little tight in the restaurant but the service is very good and the selection for restaurant week, as is their regular/changing menu is always great. Would always highly recommend."

  • "I have a love/hate relationship with LUCCA. The food is outstanding but the seating arrangements and noise levels leave a bit to be desired. Tables in the main dining room seem a bit crammed together which always make me feel like I'm in the way.. I can hear bits of conversations from all tables and it is not pleasant to carry on a conversation. We were seated initially on the patio but the noise was unbearable and on a rainy day it was simply too chilly. ON the other hand the food is pretty much to die for. Portions are generous and delicious and the value extraordinary. I wish it were a bit closer to my home because I would go there more often. The wait staff has been there for years so they must do an excellent job with their personnel."

  • "I heard a while back that this place got great reviews, but we came to celebrate a friend's birthday. We ordered what the server said were the best things on the OC Restaurant Week's menu, the famous ravioli and the land & sea entree, but they were just ok. Supppsedly, the ravioli won a few awards a while back, but i really could taste why. The cheese platter we also ordered was just ok. The cheeses and meats we ordered also tasted ok. It's good restaurant, but I simply expected more."

  • "We were excited to come try the OC Restaurant Week lunch as it was a preview of some dishes that will be at the soon to open Provence. First was Vegetable Soup Ribolita with Tuscan Black Kale and followed by the roasted Leg of Colorado Lamb Sandwich with Meyer Lemon Confit, Mixed Chards, Kalamata and Olive Aioli. Yes, it is as good as it sounds. The finish was perfect with a French Yoghurt Cake with Nutella, Caramel Sauce. The normal Lucca dishes are great but these new ones are phenomenal."

  • "A friend and I chose LUCCA for dinner during OC restaurant week. We ate in the outdoor patio dining area which is enclosed with screens which kept it warm, but still felt "outside". It had a more romantic feel than we anticipated, but was still appropriate for a dinner with friends. The land and sea was phenomenal and the portions were small enough that the three course meal was not overwhelming. They also feature Cakebread chardonnay by the glass which was a total win!"

  • "Restaurant - Busy - had a reservation. Dad got there first, checked in, sat on patio. I got there, checked in, hostess sat me inside....I thought dad wasn't there yet but he saw me walk in so came and got me. Fail - Hostess. Service - slow. Restaurant week menu - pathetic spinach salad in tiny bowl with a few strawberry slices & pecans. No discernable dressing. Colorado Lamb & Albacore tuna sandwich - very good. Some fries next to sandwich would have been nice. Dessert! - lemon tart with whipped cream & berries. Crust on tart was so hard we could not cut it with our forks & were afraid to because we thought the whole tart might shoot across the plate if we did. Lemon part a little dry, not as flavorful as expected. Overall, good not great."

  • "Wednesday evening during OC Restaurant Week. Not crowded, sat in the glass enclosed patio with overhead heaters. Small menu, nice wine selection. Service was attentive, friendly. Portions for the prix fixe specials were small but adequate; our guest ordered lamb chops off the regular menu and they were nicely done and very tasty. I have the Dover sole which was adequate and my wife had the Land and Sea which was good but small. Salads were fresh not overly dressed, chocolate crème brulee was excellent."

  • "The cheese selection & wine are both wonderful. The servers knowledge & helpful in making a selection. We had to stop at deli to get cheese to go it was so fabulous . The rest of the meal was good however I didn't feel that it stood up too my expectations. The onion soup was less than average & I ate very little . Unfortunately, the server never inquired as to Why?? My husband enjoyed his beef sliders but nothing stood out. The diver scallops though were very good according to the BD girl. Which is what counts!!"

  • "It's good to have a place like Lucca because most restaurants in the neighborhood are fast food or chains. It's nice to know that you can go sit in an attractive restaurant and have a good meal. It is far from great and I wish fewer dishes had bacon, but there were a few healthy choices on the menu. I was also glad to see that they were willing to modify a sandwich for my dining partner because in the past, I have found them to be less than accommodating about issues like that. We sat in the back so it was quieter. It's nice that there's a choice of seating, including a large patio."

  • "We had the prefix menu for Valentine's Day with wine pairing that came to $85.00 per person. The food was great but the staff was a little overwhelmed. My husband's food was tepid and my food was delayed. We will try the restaurant again during the week."

  • "I've been to your restaurant many times, but they were business meetings. Valentine's Day was the first time I took my wife and I was disappointed. The prix fixe menu was not nearly as interesting as your normal offerings. Worse, the server didn't know anything about what was being served."

  • "Had Cafe Lucca on our list for a while and finally was able to make the journey there. Was seated right away at our appointed reservation time which was a good start. We were not greeted by our server for several minutes. After several more minutes she returned to coach us on their menu "style" and asked if we desired an appetizer when we declined she was a bit bothered and left without taking our dinner order. She returned again several minutes later to finally take our order. The folks next to us that sat after us already had food. When dinner finally arrived it was fantastic and saved the meal. The check arrived in record time."

  • "This little strip shopping center restaurant is one of the best in Irvine, with consistently outstanding/interesting mediterranean menu, and interesting wine choices available by 1/2 glass also, plus with ability to purchase wine in "shop" and take home. The staff is attentive and the owner gracious. This is our "go to" restaurant that our family always enjoys."

  • "We came to try Cathy's Sea Scallops entree and several other plates. There was a new item called "Warm Potato Salad" that was interestingly described so I ordered that along with the "Very Large Raviolis". My wife ordered only Sea Scallops, since we would share the potato salad. In addition we ordered wines by the glass and the pour was generous. Some restaurants use a small beaker to measure a pour, but neglect to fill the beaker. We dug into the warm potato salad and every bite was a delight well worth the try! My raviolis came with a sprinkling of roasted chicken pieces that was an unusual compliment to the pastas. Only Cathy would come up with such a tasteful twist. My wife said her dish was the best she has ever had. Dine at Luccas!"

  • "The food, as always was excellent. We shared the beet salad, had scallops and paella. The entree servings were small, leaving you wanting more, but honestly it was enough food, though the single shrimp in the paella was skimpy as was the serving of fish. We are looking forward to the opening of Provenance. I think the ambiance will be improved, making for a more well-rounded dinner experience."

  • "The food here was good and service was excellent. However, their policy is to serve the food as it is made and ready to ensure that it is served fresh. I think that is fine for 2 people. But when there are more than that, our group found that some of the party's meals was delayed quite a bit longer than the rest which made it rather awkward. The same with the one of the small plates one person wanted as a side that did not come until well after the main was delivered. I understand the theory for what the kitchen is doing but as someone who goes out to eat with other people, that is what I want to do; not watch the other people eat until my food arrives and then have my dining companions watch me when they are finished."

  • "Our group went to this location for a birthday luncheon. Service was great. Good was really good. Prices were not very expensive. I was able to put in a special request at the open table reservation stating that we were celebrating a birthday. They brought over a "birthday brownie" with a candle. We really enjoyed the service and will dine there again!"

  • "Service was unbelievably bad which colored the whole dining experience. Server reached over us instead of stepping two steps to the side to place orders. Food was brought at irregular intervals with some in our party of 4 not served for quite a while. Meanwhile our food became cold. Our best efforts to get our server to bring the food for the rest of the party were met with indifferent shrugs and rolled eyes! Food was nothing exciting and the whole experience left us vowing never to return."

  • "Menu consists of breakfast items and sandwiches, served ala carte. Don't take the time to examine the online menu as it is not the same. Of the roughly six sandwiches offered they couldn't make the turkey wrap as they were out of turkey. in our group of five, one of the orders was lost. Although the item ended up being comped, it didn't offset my having to leave our table to find a member of staff to inquire of its whereabouts."

  • "This restaurant has a distinct European flavor and feel. The food is well presented and was excellent. The only negative is a 4 top table is really small and uncomfortable and at 9:30pm the place emptied out and the staff started putting chairs on top of tables around us before we ended our meal. I would think twice about going there to celebrate a special event."
