A word from Luca D'Italia
Chef Frank Bonanno dug into his Sicilian heritage and east coast roots to create this authentic Italian Eatery. Brightly painted walls and contemporary art create an upscale, urban feel at Luca d’Italia, where knowledgeable servers quickly meet your needs and engage easily in conversation about a menu that changes monthly. Luca has amazing personal touches from the daily made breads and pastas to the meats and cheeses that are cured in house, to the charcoal drawing of Bonanno’s son (and the restaurant’s namesake) that hangs in the dining room. Luca d’Italia is colorful, lively, and tasty; the menu is designed for gluttonous abandon. It’s not your ordinary pile-of-pasta-and-sauce Italian joint; it’s the real (and tasty) deal. Continued

  • "Luca was far beyond what I was expecting which was great. I took my girlfriend out for her birthday and it was very romantic as well as accommodating. The food was fantastic and you can't go wrong with the chefs six course with wine. Great staff that was very knowledgable and polite. I would strongly recommend it & go back as well as try the sister restaurants."

  • "I recently had my birthday dinner with some friends at Luca. It was my 3rd experience there and their first. I'd been talking it up to them and it lived up to all of my descriptions. I recommend Luca D'Italia to anyone looking for an incredible taste experience!"

  • "My sister and I had the 6 course dinner and it was superb! I had the meal with the wine pairing and all of the wines were perfect for the dishes. Definitely a winner and will be back soon!"

  • "This is a top notch restaurant and we can't wait to go back! We were celebrating a special event and the staff at Luca made it even better. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and detailed oriented. The hostess invited us in, took our jackets, and quickly seated us. The GM, Jim, introduced us to the wine list and took our cocktail order. They had a very unique wine that I have not seen on a menu in years. Sarah, our server, was excellent. We chose the 4 course tasting menu. I would highly recommend it. Their food is exceptional. The braised meatballs and hazeldell mushrooms were our two favorites. The valet was even prompt and friendly. Since it was snowing, we stood inside Vesper Lounge and were greeted by another friendly host."

  • "We had a lovely meal while visiting from SF. Inventive Italian food with excellent wine pairings. The chef's tasting menu was perhaps more calories than we had intended but we enjoyed it. Very friendly staff."

  • "One of my husband and my favorite hotspots is Luca's sister resturant Osteria Marco. However they don't serve pasta and we heard luca's was homemade and delicious and they didn't disappoint! The food was delicious!!! It was a little pricey but not for a nice date night out!! We would definitely recommend it for people who love food and Italian food at that!"

  • "This is the second time I was at Luca. It had been a year. The service, wine, food was outstanding. It is not a restaurant for people who are in a hurry. This is a culinary delight and they take their time in serving you. A wonderful spot for a romantic or small dinner party."

  • "Whenever I eat at Luca I'm left wondering why it isn't consistently ranked as one of the very best restaurants in the city. The food is incredible; light, flavorful and imaginative. The service is perfect. The drinks are great and the wine list is wonderful. Fully deserving of all 5 stars."

  • "Food was mediocre for price point. Expected to be much better with ratings. Service was great. Would not go back."

  • "Good service, nice decoration. Food are WAY overpriced with what they served. Will never come back again."

  • "Course servings very good, properly prepared, sharply presented . Octopus with sausage excellent, as was boar and tasty lentils. Red & yellow beets not as crisp with flavor …perhaps a little over-cooked. Service excellent... seamless & unobtrusive. Waitress gave knowledgeable assistance making selections from the menu. The wine steward made nice selections for us. I did observe the steward step away from a table with a glass of poured wine ( a little full) and then pour some of the wine from that glass back into the bottle! This is not too kosher a procedure… if ever…but especially where it might be plainly visible to diners. Probably one of those moments of lapsed attention because otherwise we were happy with our experience."

  • "Our group enjoyed our visit to the restaurant. Great service and a wonderful menu"

  • "The food was truly fantastic but if one person at the table chose the 4 course or 6 course fixed price option than all of the people had to do the same. I just don't eat as much as my husband but I chose the 4 course fixed price because it appealed to him. I thought that maybe I could take the leftovers home but this is not the kind of food that you want to take home and warm up the next day."

  • "Was a celebratory dinner and we were on a schedule with limited time. Our waiter took note of that and kept the food coming at a pace that was perfect and even though we had limited time, we never felt rushed In fact, there was even time for dessert and coffee which, going in, I thought for sure we wouldn't have time for. The food from start to finish was excellent as were all personnel - from the greeter to the waiter to the wine steward. From the above stars it may seem that I just clicked "five" to be done with the survey - but everything was actually that good!"

  • "We have traveled through most of Italy; Milan, Venice, Florence, Rome and points in between, and the pastas at Luca continue to delight us and rival any we've had in Italy. But don 't stop there; order an antipasti; we love the baby octopus and the meatballs! And the secondis? The duck was perfect with Barolo wine. A stellar evening with incredible food and service!"

  • "My husband and I dine at Luca's a lot but we brought three friends who had never been there. The entire staff was amazing and the food as always excellent. They were very impressed."

  • "We recently had dinner for the first time at Luca. We were very excited to try the place but left disappointed and feeling like we were overcharged. The Burata app is great, the pastas were both solid, and the entrees were decent. But a pasta course for $17 and an entree for $34 makes my dinner $51 total. For that price I don't think I should have been leaving still hungry. We eat our a lot and we just didn't feel we got real value from our experience."

  • "One of the best meals we've ever had! First, we were a challenge due to my fiancée's allergy to the onion family, however the chef rose to the occasion by custom preparing her dishes and still kept the flavor. Our server was most understanding and made absolutely sure we were well cared without hovering. We shared the beet salad and lobster pasta dishes, yummy. I had lamb loin that was as tasty as I've ever had. My fiancée had the scallops, highly recommend. The desserts were equal to the ask as well. This is fine dining without being stuffy, the price is commensurate with the quality of the servings. CIAO"

  • "Definitely worth checking out. The restaurant had a set menu for Valentine's day but provided a gluten free alternative menu upon request (it was equally as good). They had an extensive wine list and had a recommended wine prepared with every course. Book reservations well in advance because the restaurant is very small and fills up quickly."

  • "Food was great. Server was more than terrible. We complained because after a 2.5 hour dinner we waited 30 minutes for the check and the server confronted us saying he didn't do anything wrong. It was beyond inappropriate. I will never go back to this restaurant again."

  • "Luca is absolutely one of Denver's very best restaurants. The food is excellent and the service is fantastic. We chose to linger over a long Valentine's dinner and were never once rushed or made to feel uncomfortable. The waitstaff was all but invisible until we needed something when someone would magically appear to help us. Perfection!"

  • "The food on my plate, was very well prepared, though slightly under seasoned all around from the salad to the meat. The level of cook on everything showed great skill, but the flavors and execution I felt were just average. Plating was gorgeous. Overall everything was good, but it just wasn't quite what I was expecting on so many fronts. If it's our choice, we'll never return as there are other places we find prepare better food and at a better value. If you go, be careful ordering ala carte, as this place really only seems to understand their tasting menu portions. I had written a thorough review, but opentable has a small character limit. Suffice it to say we were overall disappointed with an average experience. Will post to yelp."

  • "Luca D'Italia was so much better than I had even expected. The 6 course Chef's tasting menu was delicious, our waiter was kind and knowledgeable and the Sommelier knows his stuff! I would absolutely recommend Luca D'Italia."

  • "A restaurant for a special event. Food is delicious, rich and expensive; presentation is flawless. I would like to see a move back from the richness, however."

  • "I recently ate at Luca D'Italia, on a Thursday night during a cold snap. My partner and I were sat next to the window and froze the entire time. This ruined our night. Spending hundreds of dollars at a restaurant is supposed to buy a relaxed, enjoyable dining experience, along with the good food. Instead, we suffered through our meal (although the food was good), and got out as quickly as possible. If you can't heat your restaurant, close for the night!"

  • "The food was good as far as taste. The dinner meal was over priced for the tiny porttons. The dinner meals are smaller than the appetizers. Becaused of that, I would never go back, nor would I recomend this restaurant to my professional friends . Thank You, Dr. Matthew M williams"

  • "Wanted to celebrate my husband's birthday with our 2 grown children, and choose Luca's because we'd been there before. It exceeded our expectations! The food was incredible and the service so professional and lovely. Everything was perfect - expensive, but for a special occasion, great!"

  • "Nice place. I'd recommend going later. We got there at six and there was one other table seated. We had lamb and scallops. They could be more adventurous with flavor combinations but everything was delicious. They offer every guest a small glass of Prosecco. Sommelier was great. Decor sparse but clean lines."

  • "Everthing about this restaurant is amazing! From the ambience, food, service - all top notch!!"

  • "Let me begin with the two criticisms in others' reviews: portion size and price. This is not a place for big appetites unless you want numerous courses, but it was just the right amount for my wife and me. Price is relative, but it is high. The service was superb yet not over-attentive. The food was very good, but although it is an "Italian" restaurant, none of the main courses struck me as at all Italian. Not what I have found on many trips to Italy. The ambiance was very nice and I was surprised that a prior reviewer had criticized it. Overall a very nice experience and one we plan to repeat."

  • "While the waitstaff was very friendly and knowledgeable, their commitment to get to know their patrons caused some lapses in their l work. We didn't end up getting our first bite until we were almost done with our meal and our neighboring table got the same first two courses as us, even though they had ordered completely different things. While our experience was positive, it definitely could have been better."

  • "I took my husband for his birthday. We chose the four course with wine pairing. The meat and cheese sampler as well. Everything we had was outstanding and had wonderful flavors combined with each dish. The wine that was paired with each course was excellent as well. Having just traveled to Italy, it was interesting to have various Italian wines and we knew which areas they were referring to. I think the interior of the restaurant could use some changing. I know it's about the food, but I always like a nice visual atmosphere as well. Overall a very special experience, but certainly not inexpensive. we'd love to visit more frequently, but will have to keep this gem as a special occasion destination."

  • "Great dining experience. We did the Four Course Prix Fixe Option and shared everything. Everything we tried was delicious from the Calamari, Colorado Lamb, and Bread pudding. The flavors were well balanced and really brought a unique taste to each dish. I would highly recommend Luca for a nice evening out. On top of that, the waitstaff was well above par. They were very attentive and knew exactly how to make sure our experience was memorable."

  • "Luca, IMHO, is extremely over-rated. The food and atmosphere were fine, nothing special, and wayyyy overpriced. Portion sizes are extremely small. The only positive thing I can say is the service was exceptional. With all the wonderful dining options in Denver, I'd say skip it and try somewhere else."

  • "The reputation of Luca had us excited for our New Year's Eve dinner. We've been here before (wedding anniversary). Unfortunately, the prix fixe menu disappointed and we felt it was overpriced."

  • "Luca D'Italia is perfect for a special occasion. My only complaint is the price the restaurant charges for what are essentially tapa sized portions. To be charged ten dollars for a salad that can be consumed in two or three bites and thirty-four dollars for a three or four ounce chunk of lamb is a bit excessive, to say the least. We paid over $200.00 for our meal and expected to receive more value for what we were charged."

  • "What great service and awesome food. Pleasantly surprised. Wine pairing option was rock solid! Did the four course option. Best meatballs around."

  • "Luca is bustling, energetic, filled to the brim. If you got a table, consider yourself blessed. We have eaten all over Italy, from Venice to Naples, and from coast to coast in the US, Marea in NYC to A16 in SF and we have never had handmade pasta better than that at Luca. Get a reservation, order Barolo, let the happiness wash over you."
