Diner Reviews
  • "The ambiance and service were a bit awkward but the food more than compensated for them. The ribeye was unbelievable. Well done Alex, well done."

  • "Lower48 is fun, different, interesting. What to expect: 3- course dinner. Starting with a variety of small bites - individual (and I mean one bite, maybe two), then you can get your own small-medium plate for an entree OR share one of those and then share one of TWO larger, entrees. The night we went the larger choice was chicken or a rib eye - 2 choices only and too big for one person, just right for two people. What we liked: "small bites" to start. Artistic, nice variety, fun, and all we tried were very good. We each ordered a small/med plate (these were just ok, not great) and then shared the chicken. Chicken was really good - grits not so much. What could improve: Green salad option would be nice. Third entree choice. Try it!"

  • "Really good creative food. Great flavor combinations. We had most of the appetizer choices at our table and they were all delicious. We also had the large dish roasted chicken and really enjoyed the "chicken salad" the chef made with the dark meat."

  • "sat at the chef's bar. Awesome to watch them work! Able to talk to them, very friendly, served by the chefs. Food was always perfect. Lots of attention to detail."

  • "This restaurant was absolutely spectacular from start to finish! The chef features a unique mix of flavors that made every dish delicious! I have a gluten allergy and the waitress was very knowledgeable and provided me with a lot of options. If you are a foodie this restaurant is a must visit!"

  • "We ordered multiple small plates and shared. The combination if flavors was outstanding. The only item we did not like was the Tuna, which was way over cooked. Our favor tire was the peachy, yogurt and green basil ice cream dessert. Amazing! Our server couldn't have been nicer, but food was very slow to arrive...we were there for 3 hours. Not sure if it was just understaffed that night, it if that is the norm. Portions are small. If you are really hungry, be prepared to order/pay for a lot."

  • "The food was amazing. The combination of ingredients was superb and imaginative. Will definitely be returning again soon."

  • "I am not unwilling to pay up for a good dinner, but if I'm going to do that I want to feel at least like Ive eaten and not need to stop for fast food on the way home! Keep the menu the same, but at least add one or two real meals for hungry people! We'll still eat the delicious "bites" but we'll ALSO order dinner..."

  • "After reading some reviews, our group of 4 was a little concerned. However, we found L48 to be an excellent dining venue. The food was artfully created and so delicious. We thought everything we ordered was really good, but we particularly liked the ham from the Each menu and the lamb from the Share menu. The creative desserts were unusual but very tasty. The cocktails, service and total experience was spot on. We will definitely return, sooner than later, I hope."

  • "Simply one of the finest restaurants in the country. From our server, Carson, who was attentive, knowledgeable and personable to the bite and share plates - out of this world. Should be number 1 on best new restaurants in Denver. I anticipate we will see it on the 5280 BEST RESTAURANT list in 2015! BRAVO!"

  • "My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary with dinner at the Lower48 Kitchen on a weekday night. The dining experience was simply outstanding! We were seated at the chef's table. The staff, including waitress, manager, and chefs, treated us wonderfully. The food itself was incredible. The pacing of the dinner dishes was perfect and the wine pairing incredible. We would not hesitate for a second to return. Our heartiest recommendations for this fine establishment!"

  • "This restaurant was disappointing. The menu was extremely limited and the portion sizes left us so unsatisfied we went to another restaurant for dinner and this was after spending a decent amount of money. The melon salad had no more than 3 melon balls and the summer vegetable and grain salad was about 4 tablespoons. Their share menu included one chicken leg. When asked how to share the waiter said to cut it up. The food was delicious, but won't be going back."

  • "Lower 48 has found an ingenious way for you to taste their menu: Each! Each refers to their bite-sized portion menu; many of the items as low as $2! If you are wanting a bit more food they offer a Shared menu featuring food from the Lower 48 state (thus their name). They also feature two items each day on their Daily menu that change throughout the week. While I didn't try their Large portion menu I was blessed to have a kitchen view and watched the chef prepare both of the Large menu items (these are for groups): Glazed Boston Pork Butt and Niman Ranch 21 Day Dry Aged Rib Eye. My recommendation for the individual is a sample or two off the Each menu: I loved the Crispy Duck Rillette and the Dried Beet Root. Great food and fun place!"

  • "I had a wonderful dining experience at Lower 48. The food is so creative and delicious. I love the concept of "each" bites and share plates as I can never make up my mind as to what I want to eat. We tried every "each" on the menu and loved them all. We also tried the pork belly share plate, some type of potato share plate and the striped bass share plate, and all three amazing. After eating there, I'm slightly confused as to how other reviewers were not full after dinner as I was stuffed and our total food cost was only under $70 (the total bill for 2 was $125 and that included two cocktails and a bottle of wine). Service was slightly inattentive but not so bad as to scare us away. We definitely will be back for more inspired eats!"

  • "Our first experience here was pretty uneven. The cucumber soup was watery but the salmon tartare on a chip was exceptional. The scotch egg was overcooked with rubbery whites but great flavors. The pork belly/cheek dish was perfect but the chicken was dry and an absurdly small portion. We'd go back, but order more carefully."

  • "We tried numerous different individual and shared dishes--all were quite tasty, with numerous creative combinations. Service was friendly and attentive. Price is a bit steep for the amount of food."
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "Very small plates that are are fairly pricey. Food was good, but the small plates start adding up. I left hungry. Should have gotten the large pork dish to share, but was pretty pricey at $65 and needed an hour lead time for cooking."

  • "We are in Denver at a conference and wanted to find some good food. Using various websites we found some highly rated restaurants. Acorn and Lower 48 Kitchen came up repeatedly so we tried each of them. Acorn was a bit wilder and more experimental and the food was slightly more delicious. Both restaurants are highly recommended."

  • "After eating at most of the newest Denver restaurants, Lower 48 is my favorite."

  • "Top notch from beginning to end. Great service and creative but accessible food. We sampled a number of dishes that were particularly fresh, artfully presented, and extremely tasty. We like the idea of dividing the menu into individual bites (the chilled cucumber soup sip and the beet root were yummy), plates to share (the roast chicken, sunchoke dish, and ivory king salmon starred here), and nightly specials that are somewhat larger (pollack and mussels were beautifully cooked). A dessert of coconut and chocolate mousse was the perfect ending. We appreciated that the restaurant easily accommodated our dietary needs - gluten free - and in one case vegetarian. This was our second visit and we will return again -- soon!"

  • "I enjoyed the experience at Lower 48. The $2 small plates were great. The "Share"-sized portions are very small for the price. If you are really hungry, be sure to get one of the two "Large"-sized meals offered. I love sitting at the Chef's bar. You get to see how all the food is being prepared as well as be served by the Chefs. Lower 48 serves great cocktails and the ambiance is very nice."

  • "I'll say it again... This dude can cook some serious food. It's all off the charts GREAT. The service is always solid as well but it's hard to out shine the food."

  • "This is one of those trendy small bites, share several plates, exquisite flavors, big bucks-for-what-you-get kind of places. Sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen/prep area where you can converse with the chefs...great fun! Food is unique with wonderful flavors and presentations....just not enough of it. 2 blocks from Coors field make it a great place to dine before the game, with $10 valet parking on game nights."

  • "My girlfriend and I dined at Lower 48 on the strength of a recommendation from a friend. We enjoyed several appetizers as well as the ribeye. The wine pairings were right on and we enjoyed this meal out more than any other in quite sometime!"

  • "I dined at Lower48 on a Wed eve. The cocktails were excellent, the wine selection creative, the food beautifully presented and extremely tasty. Service was top notch. I have several allergies (gluten, sugar, starch), which they handled professionally and courteously, tailoring to my needs while still providing wonderful dishes. Highly recommended!"

  • "we showed up on time for our reservation. They couldn't find it in the computer (really? Open Table?); guy said "I need to speak to my colleague." left us standing awkwardly whle they seated another party ahead of us. Finally took us to a table that had been open. one of us ordered a martini; the rest of us a bottle of wine. As the waitress searched, (literally this took 20 minutes), the maitre de came and said they were out of the wine we ordered, but he recommended another (less expensive) which he said was better. weird. Still no martini--had to ask 3 people until it finally came. Don't eat here if you're hungry! small bites are indeed TINY! Aptly named. Lower 48 was definitely LOWER than my expectations. won't return."

  • "We enjoyed some of the small bites (esp. english muffin with peas). Shared carrot dish and grouper were delicious. But overall everything was too dainty for the price (esp. the small bites for $2 each). We were still hungry upon leaving!"

  • "At Lower48 your meal is likely to be all small plates, but that' same good thing as you will get to sample many different tastes, all delicious."

  • "Dining at Lower48 is always an experience. The unique combinations of food/flavors always amazes me. The food is terrific and the staff is friendly and helpful in explaining the changing menu. We tried the steak for the first time and it was fabulous. While I don't live in Denver, I try to introduce friends/family to the restaurant often because it is a special treat for both them and me."

  • "We were really looking forward to our date night dinner here. The place was almost entirely empty when we walked in, but it was early on a week night. We ordered 2 plates each as recommended and were still very hungry after the meal unfortunately. A very expensive $75 snack. The food was not great, nothing I would order again. They were playing loud hard rock music in the restaurant which was totally throwing off the energy and making it hard to enjoy the very relaxing space. Overall, super disappointing across the board."

  • "My boyfriend and I went for dinner on Saturday. We were promptly seated and our waitress was knowledgeable and attentive. We knew about the "bites" and chose two each to start ~ they were interesting but not mind blowing, and we waited ten min to get them. Then we waited 15 min for our first shared plate (our waitress recommended we order 4 shared plates but did not tell us they would come out one at a time). It was heirloom carrots and was quite tasty. Then we waited another ten min for our next plate, a delicious fish dish. At this point we had been there 80 minutes and had a 10 pm show to make, so we asked the waitress to please hurry the last two dishes, the skate special and squid. Skate was good but needed a grilled lemon. Squid ok."

  • "The food was pretty good, definitely offered very unique choices. The idea of shared plates is something I'm not new to, though. I do like the concept; however these $16+ "entrees", which are supposed to be shared, were pretty small for the price. While they all tasted very good and we enjoyed them. I'd like to see the shared plates provide a little more food, especially with the higher than average price tag. Overall, my friends and I were pleased. I was just a little disappointed in the small amount of food we got for the amount we each paid."

  • "Our group had high hopes for this restaurant based upon rave newspaper reviews. Although each dish is a work of art and delicious, the amount of food we actually received was incredibly scant and did not match the fairly hefty expense. Still, it will be a memorable experience if only because it is so different."
