A word from Lowcountry Bistro
SIMPLY LOWCOUNTRY: Lowcountry Bistro focuses only on the freshest ingredients since all of the food we cook is from scratch. On the menu you will find cult favorites like Chicken and Waffles to Lowcountry classics like Shrimp and Grits. We also believe that great food can be affordable. Many of our lunch dishes are under $10.

Our goal as a restaurant is to serve high quality, delicious food, at a fair price. We hope you agree after your meal at Lowcountry Bistro.

SISTER RESTAURANT TO 82 QUEEN
As an icon of the city for over 30 years, we have seen restaurants come and go. We pride ourselves on the fact that we were one of the first original Lowcountry cuisine restaurants to open their doors in the city. We know Lowcountry and after diligently researching Market Street restaurants, have come to the conclusion that what the area needs is a true, authentic Lowcountry restaurant.

Diner Reviews
  • "Girls weekend in Charleston with every minute and meal planned...except Sunday brunch. Thankful that we saw Lowcountry Bistro while walking back to our hotel from the Straw Market. Biggest BLT I've ever seen with housemade chips and ranch, buttermilk fried calamari with tomato sauce and grits, and Lowcountry Benedict (biscuit, pimento cheese grits, crabcake, country ham and hollandaise!!) were all delicious. Sat upstairs - open & airy. Service was spotchy, but otherwise LOVELY."

  • "Disappointed. The portabellas were overcooked. The menu describes the entree as encrusted. The mushrooms had some goat cheese slapped on them. Drinks were too strong. My husbands meal was good, but it was a tiny serving. Literally, three bites and he's not a pig. Sad to say it barely holds a candle to its sister restaurant. On a high note, all the servers and hostesses were pleasant and the location is good."

  • "We truly enjoyed our second trip to LCB. The chicken & waffles was wonderful! The service was attentive & the decor was unique. Chalkboard specials were all appealing. The desserts were very good too! My one son had the tuna & the other had crab cakes. Hot chocolate cake & strawberry shortcake!"

  • "Went to Low Country Bistro based on a recommendation of our hotel, and was pleasurable experience. We had our two young kids with us, and noticed there were two other families with young kids here as well. Good flavorable food, sizable portions and nice mix of ingredients on the plates. Friendly and helpful wait staff."

  • "This was a first-time experience for my friends and me. The food and service was outstanding. My friends all had the she-crab soup, which they all agreed was delicious. It was nice and thick and well-balanced. I had the cantaloupe gazpacho. Creamy, cool and refreshing. We were a little disappointed to learn that the two seafood specials on the boards were not available. If you like collards, theirs are great. A little spicy, full of ham flavor, and cooked to perfection. The swordfish and crab cakes were incredible. Our server was very attentive to our needs. Unfortunately, the entire experience was upstaged by the horribly loud noise level upstairs. We couldn't hear one another and we couldn't wait to leave just to have some quiet."

  • "We were excited about the menu, and thought we were in for a good meal all the way up until the moment the food came out. All of it was terrible. Great, attentive, friendly service but very bad food. Nothing was seasoned, and it was clear that the oil used to fry (we had fried okra and fried green tomatoes) was old. Bread was stale. Everything was bland and no ingredients were fresh. We had to go to a different restaurant for dinner after leaving. So disappointing and a costly mistake!"

  • "We dined at Low Country Bistro on the recommendation of friends. I got the stuffed grouper with shrimp and crabmeat as well as the she crab soup. My wife dined on the swordfish specials served over spinach with a delicious dressing. Both dishes were excellent, but the combination of flavors with the swordfish made it our favorite dish for our entire trip. Great meal and service."

  • "I was able to get a table a bit earlier than my reservation and loves the food. I sat on the upstairs porch ad was able to enjoy people watching on Market Street. I think the menu looked fantastic an really enjoyed my mussels and the portobello plate. I will definitely go back."

  • "Get reservations! We witnessed several groups get turned away because they were full. The food was of great quality, and pretty good preparation! The cheesy potatoes served with my filet were the highlight of my week - AMAZING! Nice wine list."

  • "A great place, not too busy that they were able to seat us earlier than reserved time. Waiter was super and food was good. I really like his place."

  • "I know there are many reviews that mention the Chicken and Waffles and our server also recommended it as a favorite, but not a single person is kidding. The combination of sweet/salty is unbelievable. I was super impressed and will definitely be back!"

  • "We had the scallops w pig belly, and the fried green tomatoes, both were amazing. You only get two scallops but five friend green tomatoes. I had the chicken and waffles, I cannot say anything bad about the dish. The chicken was prepared with minimal bones so eating was very easy. My wife had the jambalaya, said everything was really good, but the rice was a little off. Definitely a great place to eat, I wish I could have tried all the dishes, so many great choices it was hard to pick."

  • "Had a perfect nice family dinner on a Charleston trip before heading to Black Fedora Sherlock show around the corner (very entertaining). Service was very good and food was perfectly fine, not special. Had the fried green tomato with crab app - nice. The seafood cioppino was good but the local fish component was overcooked. My son's strip steak was cooked well but not a great cut (quite fatty / Cysts). All in all, you could do better and worse in Charleston for the price."

  • "We opted to go here for an earlier dining time--canceling a reservation at the familiar Poogan's Porch we had visited many times--and we were pleasantly surprised. Friendly staff, conveniently located on Market Street, and food was very good. Seemed to be very busy with lots of couples, groups and families. Lots of special items each night--love the chocolate pie with a light marshmallow topping."

  • "Food was mediocre and overpriced. It was a total tourist trap. Obviously other reviews were written by their own employees"

  • "Great upscale southern comfort food. Service was amazing - our server even offered us to go cups of sweet tea (it's the little things in life). My wife enjoyed her dish (crab cakes) - and she is extremely picky as she is from Baltimore. Some of the best Shrimp and Grits I have had. Grits were creamy and flavorful. They did not skimp on the shrimp. We left full and happy. Definitely recommend for lunch."

  • "This past April we visited Lowcountry Bistro and had a wonderful meal. We have even recommended this since but now that we returned to Charleston and went for a second visit in July I have decided not to return. My daughter who ate from the Gluten Free menu was surprised by herbs and other ingredients listed were changed or omitted from her meal. Frog more Stew, which our table had in April, had NO flavor. Overall service was great but food has taken a back seat to this establishment. So sad too!"

  • "We found this place while we were visiting Charleston for the first time and looking for a restaurant with the local flavor. It is located in an old historic building, right on Market Street, the atmosphere is great and gave us a real feel of Charleston. It is charming and informal, with excellent food and warm and friendly service. I would definitely return on my next visit!"

  • "Fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits (one entree), is excellent but too much richness. Get the apps version of each and you can get the best of both without glutting yourself. Service is inconsistent. Nice specials too."

  • "Lowcountry Bistro has a great decor and the food was very tasty. Our waitress made a great wine suggestion and the food was prompt. They were very busy that night so it felt a little rushed but we were well taken care of and left with happy bellies!"

  • "Dining at Low Country Bistro was somewhat of a last minute decision, but it was an awesome decision! We really loved the old building setting and the atmosphere. And the food was AMAZING! One member of our party had the seafood stew. She said it was delicious but it wasn't as filling as she thought it might be. I had the trout with creamy grits and rainbow swiss chard. I think it may have been a dinner special. Either way, fantastic! The other member of our party had the chicken & waffle and it was absolutely delightful. The pecan butter and bourbon reduction added the perfect accompaniment to the fried chicken and sweet potato bacon cornbread waffle. We most certainly will revisit Low Country Bistro. Highly recommended!"

  • "More of a lunch spot than for dinner. Waiter forgot our appetizer. Food is good but not great. Very casual restaurant."
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "The food is really quite excellent; the shrimp and grits dish is tomato-based, though, so be aware...it's great, but different than what you might be expecting. Everything we had was brilliantly executed, including a swordfish special. The night we were there the service was not very friendly, but we chalked that up to them having a bad night. We would go back again, any time."

  • "Three of us enjoyed a Sunday brunch. The chicken and waffle are a must have! All the way around, a very pleasant experience. We'll definitely be back for other meals as well. Our only regret is we didn't discover LCB during the first two years of our daughters college life!"

  • "We decided last minute to eat here. Glad we did. Fried green tomato appetizer was good and so were the scallops. The mussels were a little fishy, didn't taste fresh and the pecan pie wasn't too over sweet. The staff was very friendly. It's located close to the market shopping and would recommend if you are in the area."

  • "We read the menu online, checked a few reviews and said, "why, not." We're so glad we did. The food was amazing. Practically everyone in Charleston serves shrimp and grits and says it is their specialty. Lowcountry has them beat. The grits were superb, with fried green tomatoes on top and the grilled shrimp. The young man who was our server was all personality and it was just a pleasure to chat with him. An ideal dining experience."

  • "Went for Fathers Day brunch to try something new. Very cute rustic low county place that fits in on Market Street. Severl Cajun items. I had Cajun eggs benedict that were tasty and presented well."

  • "Our party sat on the upstairs veranda of this Charleston style home turned restaurant. We had a view of the historic slave market with a lovely palmetto tree right at the porch level. Made us feel like we were dining in our own home! The service and food was excellent."

  • "We had a great meal. Loved all the fresh farm to table offerings. The crab and shrimp stuffed fried green tomatoes were delicious. Wish I had been able to have room for desert."

  • "Our 12 year old son picked this restaurant online while my husband and I were getting ready. He also made our reservations online. We were very impressed with the menu and presentation of ordered selections. The crab cakes for the appetizer was amazing! We all three ordered different entrees and was not disappointed! Perfect portions of food as well. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone!!"

  • "They were tasty hushpuppies, but the lobster was more a flavoring than an actual ingredient. In 2 hushpuppies, we found no lobster at all. In the other hushpuppies there were one or two small pieces of lobster."

  • "Lots of great choices....the shrimp and grits are so good. Salads are big and filling. Service is on-the-spot and friendly."

  • " From the moment I walked in the door it was a disappointing experience. When we walked in the hostess' seemed to be having a difficult time figuring out where to seat a group of three that were ahead of us. She all of a sudden said take them upstairs and the younger hostess asked us to follow her. For starters, a hello would have been nice when we walked in. I had to stop and say that I had a reservation so I could get my OT credit. Once upstairs the place was full of seating options, but they chose to seat us at a two top in the middle of the floor, but we were able to move to a more accommodating table. Our server, was rude and made inappropriate comments about my tattoo. Our server was not genuine at all. Completely Overpriced!!"

  • "I was rather disappointed in this restaurant. We ordered lobster hushpuppies but they had next to no lobster which was a total disappointment especially since they were $11.00. I ordered the scallops but they really had no flavor and the potatoes that come with them were kind of hard. My husband had the NY Strip and it was just alright. The cut could have been better. The drinks were expensive and the service was just so so. Spent over $100.00 and seriously did not feel like I got my moneys worth at all. Will not be returning here, way to many other awesome restaurants in Charleston."

  • "We should have known when we looked in the window, that this was not a good choice. Our server was terrible, missing all the details that a decent or even an average one would know. The food was average, at best. I never mind spending $100-200 on a great dinner for two, but this being well over $100 was just a waste of money. I'm a travel professional and will never send anyone to this place."

  • "In 2013 we found the food and service excellent. This year we dined twice at Low Country and were extremely disappointed, mostly by the food. The inattentive service was poor. Biggest complaint was the total lack of flavor in the food. Does anyone in the kitchen actually taste the food?"
