  • "We were there to celebrate two events and it could not have been more perfect! I especial appreciated the special vegetarian dish for my son-in-law."

  • "My first visit to Lovell's and certainly not my last. Excellent all around. Fun decor with memorable and historic artifacts positioned tastefully throughout the large sprawling restaurant. Menu varied and caters to all taste. Refined dining, and yet people comfortable in both formal and casual attair. Service on par with the best restaurants in the city. Food was perfectly prepared and outstanding. I would definitely recommend for any special occasion or for those just desiring a very nice night out."

  • "My fiancee and I have been to Lovell's a few times, but on this occasion we were joined by some friends visiting form out of town. I have always been a huge fan of the space program, and after reading a magazine article I knew I had to go. As I said before my fiancee and I had been to Lovell's in the past and those were all dinner visits. This time we wanted to try lunch. All I can say is that Lovell's has never disappointed. The food, service, and atmosphere are outstanding. We were also lucky enough to meet the owner Astronaut Jim Lovell himself. Such and kind and amazing man. This truly is a great place to go for any occasion."

  • "Our son graduated from Great Lakes Navy bootcamp and we took him to lunch here. It was a great time and Jim Lovell stopped by our table and welcomed my son into the Navy. You couldn't ask for a better welcome and my son will never forget it. The atmosphere was very interesting and the food was great."

  • "We had not been to Lovells in several years, but were looking for somewhere to go to to celebrate our anniversary without going downtown. We certainly made the right choice, the room was beautiful. our waiter was very good, helpful, very attentive without being intrusive and the dinner was delicious. It will now be a restaurant we will return to!"

  • "I had another enjoyable dinner with clients, and they were very pleased. My gazpacho soup was fabulous!"

  • "Really enjoyed a special anniversary dinner at Lovells. There are a lot of pictures and artifacts to see on the walls too. We discovered live music downstairs after dinner."

  • "Lovell's was a great dining experience. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was top notch. It was a great place to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The prices were a little higher than the resturants we normally go to, but the portion sizes were huge and tasted great."

  • "My salad didn't taste very fresh and the chicken was very dry. My companion had a meal with three different fish and thought it was quite good. Great service and lovely place."

  • "We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Lovell's and it was a wonderful experience! The meal was served by a very informative, engaging server who really knows his surroundings and regaled us with many stories! The restaurant is filled with fascinating Apollo 8 and 13 artifacts and oh, the FOOD! I highly recommend the salmon, the flavors melded together to create an incredible meal! My husband's surf & turf was equally delicious. Can't wait for our next special occasion!"

  • "My husband and I went to Lovell's for a date night. It was a weekday night and the restaurant was almost empty except for a large group of men who looked to be on a business meeting dinner. We were sat directly next to this table despite all the other empty tables. This seating was also next to the front hallway, where there was a freezing cold draft. The music was low or maybe even non-exisistent. Either way, we spent the entire evening listening to the loud diners next to us converse. The service was "ok" and the food was average at best. The portions were ridiculous and I felt like the food was country club style circa 1985. This restaurant may have been something special back in the day, but it's time has come and gone."

  • "After recently moving to Lake Forest and having heard about Lovell's my wife and I had out 10 year anniversary dinner there. After requesting a nice table and noting the special night to them in the reservation, we were placed at a small side table against a wall even thought the place was nearly empty. The service was horrendous. It just seemed like the owner/manager had taken the day off and the staff were just sitting around talking to each other. Food was ok, but portions were small. My vegetable served with the main dish was almost twice the size of the meat portion. All in all, the whole time I was just wishing I had taken my wife somewhere else for our anniversary dinner."

  • "This is the fourth time I have been to the restaurant. The appetizer, mango salad and bread, were good. The main course pistachio crusted halibut was a small piece of dried fish with very salty mash potatoes. The vegetables, carrots and green beans were excellent. Dessert which was complimentary, since it was my boyfriend's birthday, was delicious, best part of the meal. The restaurant has a large selection of wines, but a limited number of by the glass. $14.00 was outrageous for a glass of cab. I guess I was paying for the prestige of Lake Forest. I'd rather go to Wildfire for comparable prices, because the halibut and mash potatoes are so much tastier, and the wine is cheaper in price but not brand. I probably will not return."

  • "Finally an excellent restaurant in a beautiful room where people are not sitting on top of each other. You can actually enjoy the quiet and carry on a conversation without shouting. The food was excellent and prepared as ordered. The wait staff was attentive and very knowledgable about the food and the wine"

  • "The restaurant is impeccably decked out. Seating comfortable. Food and wine list outstanding. Service was even better than outstanding. Waiters take their time explaining the meal fully. All staff is well versed in the decadence of the place and know the history of every picture, emblem, etc."

  • "Our family has a history with the Apollo program, so we jumped on the recommendation to take our new Sailor to a nice dinner. Our server prefaced his intro of the specials with some nice words for my nephew, thanking him for his service and informing us that Capt. Lovell would buy his dinner. The meal was beautifully presented with excellent service, if a bit pricey. We were hoping to meet Capt. Lovell, but he wasn't there. We did enjoy the memorabilia on the lower level, and the bar had live music, but we had to get our sailor back to base. Recommend for a special occasion. "

  • "We made a reservation to celebrate my sailor's graduation from Navy bootcamp. Half of our party got lost and arrived an hour late. The staff was very understanding, helped the lost party find their way, and held our table. Couldn't have asked for nicer people. Also, it was wonderful that Captain Lovell pays for the sailor's meal."

  • "I have been to Lovells many times in the past years since it has been open. We go there for special family dinners, on holidays, for Mother's Day brunch, for special wine dinners, and for a fun Friday night in the Captain's Quarters. The food is great; the ambience is exceptional; the waitstaff is very competent and friendly. I know of no place in Chicago's North Shore that offers the same as Lovells. The atmosphere is very elegant but very comfortable."

  • "We took my mom here for dinner last week and it was really great. We had the oysters and calimari to start. Both really good. Then for dinner, my mom and sister in law had the veal medallians, my brother the trout, my husband the chicken and I had the pork chop. Everything was delicious, however my pork chop was a tiny bit dry. For dessert we had the Creme Brulee and the Muca-Muca cake. Both delicious! My only complaint is that we really wanted to view the moon memorabilia but all the really cool stuff was in a case in a downstairs dining room. We would have had to disrupt other diners to take a look. I would come back!"

  • "Up in L.F. for a play and picked Lovell's for location and good reviews and were happy with our choice. Great Service and generous portions of excellent food. We split the beet salad, and had the tuna entree and the salmon special and a bottle of the house sauvignon blanc. Would definitely return when next in L.F."

  • "Brought out of town friends who absolutely loved the food, wine, service, and Captain Lovell's space memorabilia. The service is impeccable, always 6 out of 5 stars. Jay is a phenomenal chef and has exceptional staff who make you feel right at home. "

  • "As always, both food and service were excellent. I had the chicken chutney. So good for lunch, I returned in the evening with guests. "

  • "It was wonderful that Captain Lovell greeted our sailor AND paid for her lunch, however the food was sadly disappointing. The crab on the gazpacho was from a frozen block and had so much cartilage I got tired of picking it out of my mouth so finally gave up. The Mediterranean salad had over sized pieces of vegetable that made me feel like I was man handling the food. The beef Pappardelle was tasteless. Their take on a Reuben sandwich was inventive but again tasteless. Only one of our 5 diners was slightly satisfied with the meal. The warm rolls were fabulous, the butter was chilled, the coffee was freshly made. It was an overpriced disappointment to the group."

  • "First time at Lovell's and it was a very nice evening. It was our 34th wedding anniversary and a special night for us. Our waitress was just great. We look forward to going back for brunch or a nice outdoor lunch."
    Dined on 4/26/2014
  • "This is not the same Lovell's from a couple of years ago. The prices are same, but the food quality is not nearly as good. If you were a fan of the crab cakes, you will be sorely disappointed. Remember the lumps of crab meat and very little filler? Now think of the crab cakes you bring home from the freezer section of the grocery store. The good news is that the service is outstanding."

  • "This restaurant both serves tasty, high-quality food and is a small museum to Captain Jim Lovell's history with NASA. The waiter had great stories about gatherings of the captain's astronaut friends. One picture of the Earth from space (by the bathrooms downstairs) is hung upside-down, which reportedly annoyed Gene Cernan, who had taken it and presented it to Lovell."

  • "I haven't been here for many, many years. It was relatively late on a Saturday night and we were looking for somewhere to go. Someone in the car mentioned Lovells. Knowing that when I had been there many years ago and that I have only heard good things about it, consistently, whenever people mention it, I was up for going there. I was not disappointed. The staff was good, the food good, and well, it is consistent, dependable, and reliable for a very fine meal. The ambience upstairs was low key and nice while downstairs with live music seemed to be hopping."

  • "We dined at Lovell's in Lake Forest, IL this past Saturday and it was wonderful. The service was great and the food was awesome. Our party enjoyed rib eye steaks, rack of lamb, filet mignon, and grilled chicken. The food was delicious, fresh, and savory. Enjoyed desserts of ice cream and cheese cake. Wine selection is very broad. The ambiance is great--elegant yet comfortable. And full of US space program memorabilia courtesy of astronaut Jim Lovell. The dining room is beautiful, the bar features a huge painting of the four horses of Apollo and downstairs is a comfortable lounge with live music. Great spot on the North Shore"

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed Lovell's of Lake Forest. We were only in town for the day and took a taxi driver's recommendation. We started with the Avacado Bruschetta and were delighted with the twist on an old favorite. My nephew had a hard time deciding between the entrees, but settled on the Shrimp Creole, and cleaned his plate! The petite filet was cooked just right. The ambiance was pleasingly quiet and allowed for conversation. We highly recommend Captain Lovell's restaurant!!!"

  • "Wanted to try Lovell's but was very disappointed. Got there early to have drinks in Captains Quarters lounge shown on the website which is no longer there & is now a casual dining area. Website drink menu different, too. Asked our server his name since he never told us, he recommended a dry Chardonnay with oak which had no oak in it at all when looked up on the internet later, steak was supposed to be medium well and instead was very well done with burnt charcoal top & bottom & the server never came by to check on us until it was dessert time. Biggest disappointment was the birthday celebration noted in our open table reservation which was never acknowledged. We did get free desserts & gift certificate to come back so that was nice."
