Diner Reviews
  • "Large servings; souse and I split Oysters Rockefeller (was slightly undercooked), wedge salad and scallops, was more than enough. Friend had filet of sole, was outstanding. Very busy place on a Friday night, probably explains the oysters misfire. Service is tag team type, also outstanding. Will be back again."

  • "We had lunch at Lou's Village to celebrate a birthday and it was quite enjoyable. All our selections were well seasoned and delicious. Servers were attentive and did not feel rushed at all. It's great to have a nice family-style seafood restaurant in Willow Glen, with a menu for even non-seafood lovers. We will come back."

  • "We have had the pleasure of dining many times at Lou's Village. We find their seafood as tops. Had sword fish and it was perfectly cooked and a good size, my wife's lobster roll was bursting with lobster just cooked correctly and both were delicious. The whole atmosphere is positive and very friendly. We highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "It is so nice to have a restaurant like Lou's Village in Willow Glen. We have eaten here several times and we have brought guests, as well, and the meals have all been very good. We have tried the swordfish, prawn scampi, filet of sole, shrimp Louie and the chowder. Everything was perfectly prepared. The service is always friendly, efficient and eager to please. We will definitely be back again."

  • "Ordered halibut FRi night 4/4. It was floured and lightly fried and served with mashed Potatoes NO veggies $29.95. So the whole plate was WHITE and tasteless. Robert Irvine would have had a lot to say about the boring plate, no taste? No color, absolutely no imagination. And mashed white potatoes do not go with fish at all. Chef needs help obviously ! Bay Area and that's all he can do with $$$ halibut??"

  • "I have fond memories of the "old" Lou's Village and was happy to enjoy the same fine food selection and service at your new location...."

  • "I have been going to lose village for decades. This was my first time at its new location. I really like the Decor- especially the gorgeous fish tank above the bar. We tried some of the Lou's Village classics including the stuffed baked shrimp and the seared day boat scallops. Both were excellent! The scallops were accompanied by delicious creamy mashed potatoes and sautéed vegetables. The shrimp was accompanied by rice and vegetables. I started with six plump blue point oysters nicely presented. We shared a Caesar salad which was perfectly dressed. Excellent service as well. The only slight drawback which seems to be true of a lot of new restaurants these days is the noise level. Were it a bit quieter, it would be 5 star ambience."

  • "3 "Mature Ladies" took one of our friends to Lou's Village for her 75th birthday lunch. All of the food was exceptional and priced right for Seniors for lunch. The waitress that served us was delightful and went out of her way to make it special for the guest of honor, being that we had mentioned a birthday. We will all be back. You are a great addition to Willow Glen and we where so please to see that you still have the fish tank to remind us of the "old days" on San Carlos Street. We loved the awesome lighting that is shaped like boats. You even provided our birthday guest with a special ice cream dessert and candle. Thank you for making this such a wonderful experience for 4 Senior Citizens. We will return!"

  • "Excellent dining experience. Brian was very attentive and knows his profession very well. I enjoyed interacting with him. Food was excellent. Full bar with a gorgeous aquarium above is spectacular. Really reminded me of what I expect when I dine abroad."

  • "If you're into Willow Glen trend-spot people watching this place is for you. For us, not so much. We made the mistake of sitting outside on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon and were treated to a million screaming kids. The place sits right next to an ice cream shop with a fountain and sitting area right between them, so be prepared for a lot of screaming and running around right next to your table. The staff was very attentive and friendly, but the food wasn't rave-worthy. My seafood saute was more like seafood soup and my husband's beer battered fish and chips was excessively greasy. I probably won't go back."

  • "We dined there on a Friday night and celebrated a dinner. The staff was so attentive. Service was great and the food was tasty! The group of 7 ordered the chiopinno, baked stuffed prawns, mahi mahi encrusted with macadamias, fish and chips, linguini clams and rib eye steak. Everyone loved their meals! Will definitely be back."

  • "Fun place, quality meal with lively ambiance. Excellent mixologist. My only complaint is that on NYE the menu was prix fixe and had few options."

  • "Having been a regular at the old Lou's Village from childhood, I was concerned that the new Lou's Village would not be up to the wonderful memories I had of one of the best restaurants in San Jose, I was not disappointed... The food was fabulous with a modern, updated twist... Had a hummus and prawn appetizer special which was fabulous! The crusted Mahi Mahi was to die for! The accompanying veggies were bright, fresh and delicious! Excellent, pleasant service from the wait staff and the owner. Impressive experience! Will return, many other items to try! Can't wait!"

  • "Always one of my favorites. I've been eating at Lou's Village for over 20 years and some people for over 50 or more. This place is a San Jose landmark, even though they moved. I actually think they're better now than they were in the past."

  • "We went to Lou's for my daughters birthday celebration on Sunday, service was outstanding very friendly and fast. We started with the oyster's appetizer, calamari. I ordered the Salmon special of the day which had a teriyaki glaze it was a too sweet for my taste however portion size was good. I normally have my salmon grilled so I should have requested it that way I wanted to try something different. My daughter ordered the swordfish and she loved it. Desserts were homemade and delisious!!!"

  • "Lou's has a great atmosphere though inside can be a little loud especially when they have a band (which I'd say may detract a bit from the ambiance). The huge fishtank behind the bar is cool, and outdoor dining is kept nicely warm with an over hang and heat lamps. Food was delicious, girlfriend loved her Cioppino."

  • "The food and cocktails are great. The restaurant is very nice. We had a table of 6 and we had a bit of trouble with the waiter when the bill came. He was very nice but seems like he did not know how to deal with different people paying for the bill."

  • "It is always concerning to write a review of a place that is such a treasure, because selfishly you want to keep it to yourself. The seafood at Lou's village is a cut above the other local options, and I like the nautical decor. Service has been consistently good. My favorite is the chilled seafood platter, it seems like they don't sell a lot of them but when they do everyone takes note and is like "how do I get that.""

  • "Food was fresh and nicely presented. Lobster roll left a lot to be desired....mainly the taste of lobster! Seafood was stuffed inside a thick slice of toasted bread. Too overwhelming."

  • "My husband and I went to an early dinner on Monday night. The food was great. I loved the balsamic that they put on the grilled artichoke. I didn't love the seafood platter, but it was fresh. I absolutely loved the seafood pasta. There was a lot of seafood - crab, scallops, shrimp with a very light butter & garlic sauce. I even had the gluten-free pasta and it was great. I can't wait to go back."

  • "My husband and myself experienced Lou's Village for the first time together for our valentine's day date, one day late. Everything was great. We both agreed that they had he best calamari we had ever had. The restaurant is really interesting inside. There were so many things on the wall that provoked a lot of conversation. The hubby had Mac and cheese, again the best ever. He actually saved some even though he was still hungry just because he wanted to taste it later. I had crab sandwich that was amazing. If first impressions are so important, I would say that we were thoroughly impressed and will be going back soon."

  • "We went to celebrate my wife's birthday. She prefers booths to tables, and even though it was a crowded Sat. night, the staff went out of their way to find us a booth. And to top it all off my wife said her dish (macadamia or pecan encrusted mahi-mahi) was one of the best meals she has ever had."

  • "After closing down near the Rose Garden, Lou's has reopened in its new location in Willow Glen. It has a warm, inviting vibe with a nice bar, beautiful fish tank and comfortable dining room. The staff was wonderful and the food was even better than we remembered from the original location. Nice job - we'll be back for sure. :)"

  • "I had visited the old Lou,s Village many times before it closed. Having been closed for several years, I expected things would have changed and not have been as pleasant as my past experiences at the old location. I was quite surprised to find that the new place, although smaller, had a great atmosphere and the food was excellent. A bigger surprise came when the restaurant filled to near capacity and the noise level was such that I could talk with my dining partner in a normal voice and be heard and understood. I will certainly be returning to Lou's for more fine dining."

  • "First time at this location (had eaten many times at the old one). Made reservations just a couple of hours before, and was seated fairly quickly (Friday night and very busy). It was also noisy...difficult to carry on a conversation. Tables were very close together and the wait staff at difficulty maneuvering. I had house salad: primarily iceberg lettuce and shredded carrot. Nothing special. Calamari entree: expected a (sauteed) calamari steak (should have asked) but got a few pieces and tentacles swimming in a broth, though it was tasty. Vegetable was carrots and zucchini. Would have like something a little "greener." My husband had the filet of sole, which was quite plentiful: enough for another meal. Food was good, but nothing special."
