The service was perfect, unfailing grace and friendliness. Also, Chef Thierry went from table to table greeting guests and thanked us for coming. I wanted to Love the food, but my roast chicken, a dish I'll often order as a litmus test (& which I think should be a no-brainer) had white loose skin, and the meat wasn't tender, which is not roast chicken to me. The crab beignets were unfortunately over-cooked. My husband's polenta was great! We loved the staff. And the restaurant is very pretty. I would go back, but not for the chicken.

Pros: -The crab beignets were delicate and delicious -Great wine list -Our primary waitress was very nice and helpfull Cons: -I have never been more disappointed with my food from a restaurant, my Pacific Cod was bland and boring. It looked like I had prepared it myself by simply boiling it and plopping it down on a pile of squash. -My fiance's seafood stew was sub-par and was left unfinished -One of the servers placed the appetizer on our table, muttered a few words, and walked away shaking his head and muttering to himself. We didn't understand what it was we were even eating -The price is preposterous compared to the quality of food we received -We were sat alone on the second floor where it was very awkward an uncomfortable

We were eager to try this restaurant since we loved Rovers, the chefs previous longstanding place. The first 2 menu items my husband selected were sold out, then our courses were extremely slow to come, resulting in the chef sending us a complimentary charcuterie plate prior to our entrees, which took apx 2 hours to arrive. Sadly, they were just mediocre when they did. The evening was a disappointment.

Upscale restaurant located in the heart of downtown with easy access to the theaters and convention center. The menu had a variety of items to satisfy every palate. The quality of the food and service were both outstanding. The lighting and decor were conducive to both a romantic dinner for two as well as socializing with a group of friends. This restaurant definitely has it all.

Our waitress (or someone in the kitchen) made two annoying errors in our orders. The main course items came before the second course and, ultimately, the second course never arrived. This should not happen in an upscale restaurant. Nonetheless, the food was very good and the ambiance quite pleasant. Overall, it was a good place to celebrate my wife's birthday.

Although well received and the interior is lovely, we were less than delighted by the food. My roasted chicken was very moist and of good quality but the mustard sauce was salty with some fingerling potatoes. Perhaps the chef could of used some more seasonal touches such as a cider cream reduction (apples/fall) and some other seasonal vegetables in addition. Roasted cod dish the best out of 3. Two starters were very small tastings. Would love to see veal chops, sweetbreads, or duck on the menu! No bread offered but I'm assuming it's probably an addition but would of been nice with the seafood stew...

The food was excellent and our main server was very good. We did have about 5 people serving us which I always think is a little odd, random people bringing dishes and such. In addition to that we had two people who very randomly stopped by and asked us if they could get us more drinks. They were nicely dressed (more so than the wait staff, so I assume were some type of manager) but never introduced themselves and they way they interacted was very odd. Hard to describe but left us feeling strange. The tables are VERY close together. The food was very good, but it is the experience was a little odd.

We were very excited to try Loulay for the first time given all the buzz about it. Unfortunately, Loulay failed to live up to our high expectations. The food was alright but by nothing special. Mussels were very good although the fries sticking out of the sauce were quickly waterlogged. Salmon was overcooked and chicken very ordinary. Ingredients such as fresh peas and beans lacked the freshness and flavor expected at this level of restaurant. Loulay is to be applauded for its excellent wine list including a much wider selection of wines by the glass than normal. Bottom line, no need in our book to go back. Perhaps things would have been better if the Chef in the Hat was overseeing things in the kitchen instead of out smoozing with guests.

We found food to be excellent: Northwest Fish Stew was tasty, generous. Black Rice Risotto was rich and beautifully presented. Wine list was extensive and sommelier was very helpful (recommendation was spot on!) Our booth made it private and though quite a lot of background noise, we could talk and hear conversation.

My son turned 40 this year and was also celebrating his 10th wedding anniversary. He and his wife had dined at Rovers and were sad to see it close so when I found out the Thierry Rautureau had opened Loulay's I knew that they would enjoy going there. We were not disappointed. The restaurant is beautiful, especially the large mirror with the hats, forks and spoons. Even the restroom was a joy to visit with the vintage mirrors displayed on the walls. Of course the food was the raison d'etre. We had a joyful visit and want to return for another celebration soon.

While food is always key, my dining partners and I are excellent cooks, so we often go out primarily for the experience, ambiance and the service. I am not sure if our waitress was having a bad night or if she is simply not good at her job - but the service was poor. When it comes to a fine dining, service is a key part of the experience. So having an antagonistic wait person who was seemingly bent on ignoring our table, along with poorly trained busboys, really put a damper on the evening. Make no mistake, the food was good - but not incredible. With so many dining options in Seattle, I probably won't return.

Our table of 8 all agreed: excellent service (they happily reconfigured our table for better group conversation) in a stunningly beautiful space (The upholstered banquets! The bedazzled chandeliers! The enormous gilt mirror!) with food beyond compare (a thoughtful and exquisite menu balanced with seafood, meats, a quintessential onion soup, numerous vegetable sides and salads, comprehensive wine list and all at very reasonable prices) Chef Thierry and his crew have really given Seattle an extraordinary place that merits visiting again and again, which we plan to do. Truly, this is my new favorite restaurant in Seattle. So in a word - Loulay is EVERYTHING!

Went for dinner with my significant other and enjoyed it. My meal wasn't quite to my taste, but my girlfriend loved it. I tried some of her order and loved that too. The service is wonderful, and they actually have a decent house wine by the carafe which is surprisingly affordable. They have a couple great wines on their list and there was plenty on the menu to entertain anyone. I'd gladly recommend to friends and family.

We asked for a quiet table, as I have a hearing deficit. We got more than we bargained for. There is a narrow aisle, used mainly by servers, between the main-floor dining area and a line of semi-private tables, each in its own cubicle. It was indeed quiet, but I'd never sit there again. Waitpersons were whisking back and forth the entire time. Also, our server was inadequate. I don't mind leisurely dining, but from time to time I thought he had forgotten us. He brought me the wrong entrée, and before that, another server plunked down entrees at our table (there were just two of us), then someone else swept them away as they were destined for another table. I have dined at Rover's and at Luc, and was looking forward to a five-star

We have found Loulay to be uneven in quality. Last Friday, the sole was too smothered in butter and the house salad was too salty. On the other hand, the scallop carpaccio was brilliant and the tuna excellent. Like the girl with the curl, when they are good they are very, very good but when they are bad, they over season. This uneven quality control never happened at Rover's.

My friend and I really enjoyed breakfast here. The selection is really interesting and well prepared. I had the french omelette and my friend had the Farmer's breakfast. Both were delicious. The Farmer's plate was really great with fresh vegetables and even fresh figs. The house made sausage is delicious. Best of all, the prices are reasonable and the portions are nicely sized. The dining room is light and cheery even on a cloudy, misty, Seattle day. This is a hidden gem for downtown breakfast. I recommend it and I will return!

Thu eve., 6 at 6pm. Told server we had a show at 8pm. Each had a drink, appetizer, then meal. Crab beignets were very good; I loved every bite! French onion soup was delicious as well. food (2 ribeyes, 1 salmon, 2 burgers, and 1 chicken dish) arrived at 7:30!! Eating was rushed. Ribeyes were incredible, not a morsel left. Chicken dish was good, not amazing. Salmon was fantastic! Blending of flavors w/two sauces; fish was cooked perfectly, would order it again! Burger 1 was ok. Burger 2 had the aioli which was specifically NOT requested. The replacement was rushed & so rare b/c now it was 7:40; it wasn't eaten b/c we had to leave. The burger was removed from bill, but friend only got to eat app & fries! And extra $ for bread for the table?

We had dinner here before a Fifth Avenue Theater show. The servers were attentive and made sure we had plenty of time to enjoy dinner before the show. Our sommelier was outstanding. We ordered a Sancerre that she noted was not as chilled as she would like. An ice bucket appeared to chill it down and while we waited, she comped us two lovely glasses of sparkling rose from the Loire. Such class and graceful service was unexpected but very much appreciated and welcomed. Thank you for a lovely dining/wine experience. We will return!
