  • "The service was slow and not inpressed at all. I think since our appearance was a little dressed down our server did not take the time that she would with others. We were on a double date and we wanted to try something that is known, which in this case was a big mistake. We have dressed nice casual nothing like scrubby but not in any fancy dresses and suits. I will probably will not go back to Louis. It took about 7 min to be greeted and 10-15 to get drinks, and another 15 to order... SLOW service. Just because we are look casual doesn't mean we don't tip well. It was not that busy to have to wait for everything you needed."

We were blown away by the hospitality, their ability to answer our questions, the atmosphere, AND the food. I am excited to go back again soon and we have already reserved the very nice private dining area for our grooms dinner. Much recommended!"

  • "I thought the food was very overpriced. They will not allow you to make any subsitutions. For example, I wanted pasta instead of polenta with my chicken dish and was upcharged $7.50 for a small portion of pasta (the polenta was still on my plate)."

  • "I could've eaten three of the rigatoni portions , it was is small. It was very good, but child's size. The others meals looked like a normal portion. Other than that, the patio is very nice and they did a great job on the renovation. I'll go back in a while, just not getting the rigatoni. I feel like they owe me a plastic toy with that meal."

  • "We went and we had a great timefor my daughters 30th birthday and the food was great, the waitress was also very good. The only drawback was the kitchen fell a little behind and the waitress was up front about that, which I appreciated. The delay was actually no big deal and it gave us more time to enjoy the ambience of Louis. We had a great view of the patio as our table was right next to a window. we will return for specil birthdays, ect. and I will return for a small plate on the patio. This is a great addition to the St.Paul restuarante scene."

  • "Sad--so much potential gone to waste. Came for our anniversary and were tucked into a corner booth behind a LOUD table. Waiter was very nice but seemed to have a hard time getting back to our corner. Waited forever for food, then bread, appetizers, salads, and pasta course arrived all at the same time. Pasta was good but a bit salty; halibut was too salty and accompanying romesco sauce was just ok. (Try the salmon with Romesco at Highland Grill--ten times better at a fraction of the price) A perfectly baked warm Chocolate lava cake, with raspberry sorbet was the saving grace... But espressos arrived after the cake was gone. Timing is everything."

  • "While, Cosetta's has also been a favorite of ours we were excited to celebrate our daughters birthday at their new restaurant, however the food was average, I thought the menu was not very accommodating for a cross section of different tastes and the Italian dishes were trying to be to different/over the top instead of doing what they do best, the basics. We will stick to eating downstairs enjoying the classic pizza and pasta served cafeteria style."

  • "The arugula was old and tough, the salads way over dressed (and I like a lot of dressing), and underwhelming flavor-wise. The veal chop (on the bone) was pounded and dry. I ordered tiger prawns Florantine. I lovelovelove cheese; cheese is a way of life. The menu explained there was cheese sprinkled on top. I expected this. I didn't expect so much cheese that the prawns were completely drowned out. That was the food. The server and bus persons never exchanged our bread plates between our using them for appetizers and bread. Nor were we checked on as items were delivered. bad all around."

  • "I had the lasagne and it was extremely salty. Did not finish the dish but took home leftovers for my husband to taste and he agreed that it was also extremely salty. The remaining members in our party like their dishes. I thought the service was quite slow for the restaurant only being half full due to 4th of July holiday weekend. I never give a "final verdict" on a restaurant based on only one visit, so I will be back at least one more time and then decide on future visits."

  • "My wife and I had been to Cosetta's several times with family and friends and love the food and casual atmosphere, but we'd hadn't tried Louis' since they remodeled and added it for more elegant, sit-down meals. We were very happy with the food and the service was wonderful. We went to the patio for drinks, but passed on their 'very' abbreviated menu and opted to keep our reservation for dinner inside! The weather was perfect, so we were a little disappointed that we couldn't get the full menu outside. However, the food was wonderful and our servers were very efficient, polite and helpful. We split a primi and secondi, which was the perfect size and had wonderful flavors; Linguini alla Vongole & Gamberi Florentine. We will come back!"

  • "Being a former New Yorker, this place reminds me of "home". We went for a family dinner with relatives during the 4th of July, and had a great meal. We have been here before and the food is always delicious, the service is always good. We especially like their seafood and pasta. It wasn't very crowded this time, and therefore much quieter than usual. We even got to meet the chef (Go Vikings!). After dinner we went downstairs to the pastry shop and enjoyed some delicious desserts. Louis and Cossetta are our "go to" places whenever we want a taste of Italy."

  • "We had planned for months to celebrate our wedding anniversary at Louis'. We thought a quiet, romantic Tuesday evening of Sinatra and our favorite food and wine would be the perfect way to do this. After spending 20 minutes parking the car, we walked unexpectedly into a hyper (hopping?), noisy (energetic? we had to shout) roomful of young people only a few of us from "the greatest generation". We LOVE young people, but we could barely hear our waiter, and Sinatra was only discernible in the restroom and stairway. I must confess I got a headache and couldn't wait to get out. The best part of the evening was dancing down the three levels of stairs to Sinatra. The remodeling is lovely, and could there be a place for quiet romance?"

  • "We weren't paying attention to the Xcel event calendar and booked a reservation the same night as a concert. We were able to get in timely and the server was up front that the kitchen was running a bit behind, but catching up. She brought bread and bruchetta to take the edge off while we waited. The space is very loud when crowded, but managable when it's a normal busy night. We were seated inside, but the outdoor space would be perfect for a nice night. Food was average. My son had spaghetti and meatballs (you can't go wrong at this space with that order), my husband had the rigatoni which had a nice spicy sausage, and I had chicken parm... which came out burnt so the ends were really chewy. Dessert was good enough."

JAMMIN' on a pre-concert Saturday night, yet we got very good service and food. Parked at the ramp behind the building, kitty corner, for $10 (Xcel ramps were $20). Quick easy walk to Xcel after dinner. Thumbs up. Will be back!"

  • "We were looking forward to our dinner at Louis with friends. None of us had been there before. We were disappointed with the menu and food choices overall. When our food was served only one pasta out of four entrees and three pastas was a real winner. We also did not appreciate having to pay $8 plus a tip when parking in the fine dinning restaurant, and had no other place to park. Overall not up to Cossetta's standard and I am not sure we will be back."

Service was exemplary and enjoyable. I will definitely return, but will probably stay with the insalate and primi offerings."

  • "My wife and I went here for our 16th anniversary. Very nice, comfortable atmosphere. I decided to get a half order of the RIGATONI NORCINO prior to my main course. I'm glad I did... it was oustanding! For our main courses my wife had the POLLO FLORENTINE while I went with the POLLO AI FUNGHI E MARSALA. Both were very good (i tried hers too!). My complaints with the food were pretty minor. We both thought the dishes seemed a little salty. We don't use a lot of salt in our cooking at home so we're probably a little more sensitive to that than most. Oh, and I found out that I don't like polenta either (it was served as a side with my dish). The service was top notch. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. We'll definitely be back!"

  • "Both my wife and I loved the experience at Louis. It was busy, but not overbearing. We were able to enjoy a nice dinner together on a Friday evening for what was our anniversary. I'd say the both of us have gotten used to great service when visiting restaurants in Minneapolis and St. Paul, on the occasions we make it out, and this was no different. Our waiter was very engaging, asking our interest in eating there that evening, and offering a couple complimentary things like an appetizer and small dessert. I think that's always a great quality in a restaurant in the service they provide. Its the people I appreciate, as well as wonderful food. I personally enjoyed both! I would definitely visit again."
