Diner Reviews
  • "The resturant was a nice addition to the exsisting cafeteria. It was too chilly when we went to sit outside but the roof top was spacious and outdoor bar area was huge. We will go back to sit out there. The menu had a lot of choices and we had a gluten free person in our party which we were amazed by the choices for her as well. Overall great experience. My husband thought the portion sizes were too small but for an upscale feel they are going for I thought they were fitting."

  • "The spicy Italian sausage is outstanding! It made me want to run downstairs to the Cosettas & buy some to take home! Beef carpaccio & fresh Buffalo mozzarella was incredible."

  • "As someone who never really loved Cosetta, I was pleasantly surprised by Louis. Terrific beet salad. Very pleasant service and well-timed."

  • "We have been 20 year Cossetta's fans and recently met some of our extended family at for dinner. We decided to try Louis and were delighted with the service and delicious food and beautiful presentation! Our group of 6 had a little challenge hearing due to it being a packed house and our own hearing abilities! We skipped dessert at Louis and headed to the bakery for a delightful array of treats! A wonderful experience for our group. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Went before a wild game and was pleasantly surprised - the place was packed however we were seated right away and all our food came out very promptly. We had 2 different chicken dishes which were both great. The Caprese salad was excellent and very authentic - we also received 2 chefs appetizers complimentary from the kitchen. And to boot, the Wild beat the Pengquins 4-0. We would like to come back when we can spend more time at the restaurant."

  • "We haven't been to Cossettas for years and were told by friends that they had a new restaurant on the premise. We were delighted with the changes and Louis. the third floor location is welcoming and energetic and will be great for outdoor dining. Our waitstaff was excellent and the food was amazing. We will definitely return, and spend more time browsing the other areas in Cossettas."

  • "The dining experience at Louis was absolutely perfect for celebrating our daughter's 24th birthday. We love Italian food and this was the best we've had. Calamari, shrimp and scallions were rediculously delicious. The food, wine, service and atmosphere was just everything we like in a restaurant. Prompt, professional service that did not rush us, and a classic/ historical feel with Frank Sinatra in the background is what we like. This is our new favorite for any occasion."

  • "We have been to Louis' on many occasions and they never disappoint. Our server, Genevieve, was a real pro...prompt, knowledgeable, and friendly."

  • "My family went to Lois to celebrate a special occasion and everyone had a very good meal. The service was great and we like the feel of this restaurant. Only regret is that we did not have time for dessert!"

  • "The acoustics in the restaurant are terrible! When all the tables are full, and everyone is talking, you can NOT hear the person sitting across from you at your own table, which was stressful. It really took the fun out of the evening. We were all straining to hear one another. Only after a number of tables left did we feel more relaxed and were able to converse much easier. We probably won't be coming back anytime soon. The food was OK, but nothing spectacular......Somewhat disappointing, considering it was part of Cosetta's!"

  • "I have ben going to cosseta for years Louise was a great addition. This time I took my 83 year old mother and she declared this was the best spag. she has ever had!"

  • "The lasagna was very tasty, but a little to salty."

  • "This was our first visit to Louis. Our server was exceptional, but some hiccups with the kitchen and bar. My wives water glass and my wine glass were pretty dirty, with visible little bits of food. Both were corrected without delay. Two of our three meals were very good. My Porterhouse steak was disappointing. Although quite tasty, nearly half of the steak was very chewy and un-eatable. Fortunately the steak was very big and the edible portion was sufficient. Although we were not going to order dessert, our server was kind enough to bring us two of their most famous desserts and their apologies. The Tiramisu and Budino Chocolate were excellent. The Tiramisu was the best I ever had and the Budino was exquisite."

  • "I had heard about Lois/Cossetta's from a friend and was told I HAD to come before leaving town, I am only here for a short while on business. I happened to be celebrating my birthday during this time so decided to try it out. I am gluten free and they had a delicious gluten free menu and were very helpful when I asked questions about preparation and ingredients. We also had 11 people in our party, they accomodated us well, and we eat throroughly enjoyed our meal! The service was excellent and the ambiance was perfect. We were actually able to watch a man propose on the balcony while there. The staff video recorded the event for the couple. It was all such a wonderful experience. Will definitely come here again next time I am in town!"

  • "the clams and linguini was so fantastic! and the waiter's help with wine choice, was perfect"

  • "the Bruschetta was very bland and while I liked my roasted root vegetables and beet salad, I thought the plate presentation of the Penne arrabiata which my dining companions had was below average"
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "Ordered the Penne bur instead of shrimp (I'm allergic) I ordered italian sausage, notions and peppers. I got my penne and a side plat of dry over cooked whole sausages and limp peppers and onions. Not so good. My Wife order spaghetti and meatballs which was bland and dry. We took a chance on the lava cake for desert and it was very small and cold. With all the great things I've heard of Cossetta's I was expecting a great meal. I've had better at Macaroni Grill..."

  • "The service and food at Louis was excellent. The staff is very attentive and helpful. Louis offers a lot of little 'freebies' or tastey bites with your meal, starting with bread, also bread with pickled tomatoes and cucs, an amaretto cookie with your bill and mint as you leave. Some nice little bonuses to add some other tastes to whatever delicious meal you decide on."

  • "I've wanted to try Louis since it opened. We finally did, on my Birthday. Service was friendly and professional, quiet throughout. Food presentation was lovely, tasted delicious. Loved the beet salad! Took home enough of the entree for another meal."
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "My husband loved his fettucine vongole, but my beet salad was disappointing--ice cold "cake" of slivered beets, tasteless dressing, infinitesimal piece of goat cheese--and the brick chicken, recommended by the waiter, tasted bitter from the grill. Tiramisu was good. Incredibly noisy."

  • "We are big fans of Cossetta's and I was excited to try Louis. My husband and I went there for a romantic dinner before the Ordway but it was a bar like atmosphere filled with Wild fans. We did have great service but it was slow (over an hour for dinner). My dish tasted like they warmed up chicken parmigiana from the deli then put it on a glass plate and charged us twice as much. My husband wanted sausage with his pasta dinner and ordered it as a side dish. They refused to not put sauce on it ?? It had obviously been drizzled with sauce right before it was served. Overall I would say skip walking up the three flights of stairs and eat the same food, cheaper downstairs."

  • "We ate right before a Wild game and it was extremely loud. We had a hard time talking across the table from each other. The food was just OK. Nothing really "Wow'ed" us, but it was fine. We had a good time, but I would pick another Italian place in the future."

  • "Fantastic service and the food was top notch. This was my first time here and I would highly recommend this place to everyone. I will be back soon"

  • "Great location when in St. Paul for an evening out. We always had to avoid Cossetta's due to the long lines - there was that one missed meal before a Springsteen concert! It is nice to have Cossetta food, but a reserved seat as well. We ordered several dishes that we shared. All was tasty, albeit a little pricey. This is not cheap dining. But, the flavors were worth it!"

  • "First time to the dining room upstairs We were pleasantly surprised, elegant and casual. Same great food as downstairs, with an upscale twist and additional menu items. Our waiter of (Spanish descent) was the catalyst to a special evening, offering top-notch service, while sharing just enough when we inquired about the origin of his name, (of Hebrew origin), something akin to "Easy". We are from out of town. Louis is new on our "go to" list."

  • "A friend from Maryland was in town and we wanted to take her to St. Paul for dinner. We decided on Louis because of the location and the fact that they have their own parking. We've been to Cossetta's many times, but this was our first trip to Louis. The food was great! The Caprese salad was different than the normal and the Burratta cheese was wonderful. We had 3 different entrees between the four of us (two ordered the same) and all were great. The wait staff were all very pleasant. It was a great outing!"

  • "We've been to Louis twice in the last 6 weeks. The food was excellent both times. The service was remarkable. Very personable. Server offered to split portions to give a taste of everything. Server offered to change sides to accomodate. It was all about service. Haven't been to a restaurant in a long time that was this much about service. It was great. We love it and will return often."

  • "Great food, great people, great price, first time come here with the family and we felt in love with the place right away. My kids love the food and my wife enjoy every moment we spend their."

  • "The food was terrific and parking was a breeze. We came for a special evening, but the hosting service was perfunctory and the table service was rushed and made us feel like we were intruding. We did not feel well taken care of. The food came on time and everything was done correctly....but the evening lacked a dining experience to match the food. The leftovers we took home were a great lunch the next day and enjoyed more than at the restaurant table. Sorry...am a big and decades long Cosseta's fan. I'll recommend it to friends because I know you will improve and I'll give them fair warning."

  • "My wife and I went to early dinner at Louis and were impressed. Parking was a breeze(large lot).Happy hour drink prices were nice. We split a salad and a vat of cioppino which was terrific despite the 39$ price. It was filled with lobster, one whole one split artfully in half, shrimp clams and fish. Perhaps, best of all was the spicy broth, made to be soaked up with their excellent bread. Service was excellent, and ambience was pleasant. The outdoor dining area looks great and should be hopping if winter ever ends."

  • "Food was ok to good, but service was poor, server did not suggest an appetizer just went to wanting us to order dinner. We did order apps. and enjoyed it as well as the salads. Never once did he mention my wife's birthday as I indicated on my reservation. Place was almost empty, we should of received stellar service."
