A word from Louie's Oyster Bar
Reservations are only accepted for indoor tables. Outdoor tables are seated on a first come first serve basis.

One of Long Island's oldest and most colorful restaurants. From its start in 1905, Louis Zwerlein's "Kare Killer" was a most unusual place. One had to get there by boat since it was built on a floating barge anchored out in the bay. One of its side attractions was that it afforded a fine view of the approaching boats from shore. On occasion, a husband sighting his wife on a course for the barge would dive headlong off the far side and strike out for Great Neck.
When prohibition killed the Kare Killer in 1916, the business moved to a spot adjacent to the Town Dock, renting boats, selling chowder and other seafood. Another move in the early thirties placed the restaurant in its present location still on the Main Street waterfront. In 1954, it was expanded into an adjoining building that had originally been a blacksmith shop.

Louie's is always good. Reservations are honored without exception. The wait staff are so dependable and pleasant. Drinks are done to perfection. Food is served promptly and hot! There is a reason you pay just a little bit more at Louie's. It is worth it.

If you're looking for seafood STOP! You've found your restaurant. Louies gets it right! Took my mom for her 90th birthday dinner. We were not disappointed. From the minute we crossed the threshold it was spot on. Clean! Friendly! Delicious! Superb food, great old world service. The house salad was huge, chilled & served with wonderful crusty bread for the table. The birthday girl had twin lobster tails, sweet & perfect. The lump crab meat & diver scallop were also served prepared to perfection. Louies cocktail sauce is the BEST! The celebration was capped off by a huge, birthday ice cream sundae. Though this was not a busy Friday, the service was attentive. We were thrilled with the evening. Priced very well. Attentive service.

the place was very loud, hard to have a conversation, we ate in a room off the bar, so I was expecting quieter. I have had really good meals at Louie's in the past, but not tonight. the wedge salad was ok, not crisp. the soups were ok, tuna tacos great like always, the halbut was dry and tasteless, the steak was good, scallops ok

Louie's has been a landmark restaurant for decades. However ever since a major renovation several years back, the quality of the food and service have declined. Tonight it looks like the place is on its last legs. It was amazingly empty even on a Friday night. I certainly understand why. The service was adequate for a diner, but not for a restaurant with these prices, and the food is truly mediocre at best. Probably could get equal seafood at a good diner. Really nothing special, notable or particularly good. Seems like the word has gotten around judging by the meager crowd. I expect that either the place closes down soon, or there is a change in management. It can't go on much longer with service and food like his. It used to be so good!

I live in Port Washington, have been to Louie's before, and always considered it a nice neighborhood spot, especially in the summer w/ the outdoor deck. I didn't necessarily think of it as a place with outstanding food so when my wife suggested we go there for dinner on a Saturday night in October, my expectations were modest. That said, we were both extremely happy with our meals and our server was outstanding. We shared a special app that had dry aged duck and chorizo paired with a couple of smoked cheeses, that was especially delicious. We also had oysters, a crab special, and the filet mignon, all outstanding. Our server was young but he was confident, knowledgeable, and attentive. All-in-all, 2 thumbs way up for our local spot!

We opted to sit outside even though it was pretty late in the season but boy were we glad we did! The sunset was magnificent that night and even made Channel 12 news. I posted the pics to facebook, Twitter and Instagram giving Louie's credit for the view. From start to finish our meal was wonderful. Our martinis were just right, the oysters and clams fresh and delicious and the broiled seafood platter the best I have eaten anywhere - each kind of seafood cooked and seasoned exactly as each required. Mashed potatoes were great and the key lime pie excellent. We have eaten at Louie's quite often over the years but hadn't been there in a while. What a pleasant reunion. Can't wait to go back with a group!

We have been there many times for dinner because my wife likes there harbor views and restaurant atmosphere. Their dinner menu is generally good although not excellent. This is our first time there for Sunday brunch and found out they just came out with the brunch menu: -They offer complimentary cocktails, but I suggest they add orange juice & champagne on top of Bloody Mary and Sangria. -The special eggplant salad is interesting and worth to try, but not something you would order regularly. -My wife has lobster omelet and it was fine, but my crab cake wasn’t really good. -Service was excellent from beginning until the end. It wasn’t a crowded brunch time and we were seated somewhere nearby windows with amazing harbor view.

Waiter and food was amazing but front desk girl tried to put me by the bar after I told her I had reservations. They had to go look to see if anything was available.. What's the point of making reservations. People usually make reservation for special occasions. Plus I make sure I wrote that in the note and I called in advance to confirm

Made reservations for a Friday evening and got there a bit early but we were seated with no wait. The outdoor deck has an excellent view and is quite large. The food was excellent and our wait staff was friendly and attentive. It was hopping but the noise level wasn't bad (being outdoors probably helps). The decor is well done - about the only minor comment is the tables have you facing east or west so bring sunglasses if the sun is still up or you'll be squinting. Once it starts to set though the view is fantastic.

You can always count on a great lunch or dinner at Louie's. Whether you are interested in a full meal, or just want an over-the-top sandwich! The lobster roll, fried fish filet sandwich and shrimp poor boys are ALL winners. My husband ordered the cod dinner and suspected it had been caught right then and there when he ordered it. YES, it was that fresh and tasty! I love the fried shrimp dinner, sooo many shrimp, so little time!!!

We've eaten at Louie's many times and have really enjoyed the food and the view there. We went there with another couple and unfortunately the main courses were very sub par. My wife's mixed grilled seafood platter was terribly overcooked. The shrimp were inedible. My stuffed shrimp meal was tasteless. A great place to watch the Sunset over the bay on a warm summer night on the deck. Service staff were attentive. Food was just OK. My wife had fried Oysters that had pieces of oyster with lots of coating. Tasty, but very little oyster inside. I had broiled Cod. The fish was fresh and cooked just right, but it was over salted on top and took away from the excellence of the fish. I had asked for just plain broiled fish! We are not from the area, but had read good reviews. Not a place to go out of your way for the food. As an aside you can watch the Sunset from an adjacent Park on the Bay!

I guess people come here because it's the only decent restaurant in the neighborhood with nice design? The food was fine not amazing. There was a strange smell inside, so we decided to sit outside. We waited probably 20 minutes before someone came to our table. We asked the busser for lemons. It never came. I think if the service was better, it would have made the experience more pleasant. NOTE TO OWNERS: your waiters need fine dine training ASAP. They did not refill water. Bread came only w/ butter, did not ask if we wanted olive oil. My brother's mac & cheese from the kids menu is NOT the traditional mac & cheese. It was shell pasta mixed w/ a little alfredo sauce and white cheese? Everyone needs to work a little harder. Too relaxed.
