  • "New restaurant find. Have been to sister restaurant, and found this just as good if not better."

  • "we were six people for dinner before a production at Florida Studio Theater. All six enjoyed their meals, very nice choices from small plates to main dishes, price range varies so everyone can eat what they wish and spend what they wish. Nice cocktail menu, service very good as usual. Being summer before a holiday weekend, there were less people dining than in the past so noise was not a factor."

  • "A beautiful restaurant with great food and service, so good we returned a second night."

  • "We had heard great things so decided to try it out. The menu/drink list is the placemat and had some really great, different choices. We had a glass of malbec and a special mixed vodka drink (Shrubbery - excellent!) as well as the very good assortment in the bread basket (yummy focaccia bread sticks and velvety butter). Lamb meatballs (small but tasty) on a bed a delicious couscous and the Barrata, a salt block with an heirloom tomato and very fresh mozzarella salad on top. Really good! Overall a good dinner with interesting food choices and twists on the classics. We may go back but will call the restaurant for better time options."

  • "There a lot of restaurants in Sarasota, but while many claim to have a world class chef at the helm, many serve lackluster and unimaginative plates. Not true at Louie's Modern! We will return again and often. The food was excellent, service unparalleled and a very comfortable ambience that allows you to enjoy your evening. One of the best meals we have had in the are for quite sometime."

  • "Have dined 3 times now; service has always been great, very prompt to start and they let me take my time between courses. I really enjoy the atmosphere, it is clean, comfortable, and the noise level is lively. Louies has a very diverse and creative menu, very accommodating to vegetarians like me and meat lovers like my husband. The kale caesar is outstanding, very lemony and fresh tasting. Another stand out item was the burrata appetizer, the tomatoes were full of flavor and the salt block added some extra appeal both in looks and taste. Will definitely return to try more."

  • "They need more summer items (lighter) on the menu."

  • "The service was excellent, the food delicious, but it's really a noisy venue."

  • "Start with a cocktail bc they were creative and different. We shared a lamb meatball app which had a subtle mint flavor. They were tasty and complimented the cocktails. Our entrees were excellent but the wood oven duck was truly outstanding. We're from NY and this felt like Manhattan dining."

  • "My son and his wife took us to Louie's for Father's Day and we had a fun and tasty experience. Their Waffles and Biscuits Brunch was stocked with great and unique choices. The decor and ambience are a nice find on the increasingly vibrant downtown Sarasota restauranr scene. We plan to return to try Louie's Modern for dinner. A terrific dining experience."

  • "Our table ordered both prix fixe and a al carte items and all found the food and presentation excellent, service good, but room a bit noisy. PS. Try one of their excellent and unusual cocktails."

  • "We've been to Louie's Modern before but this time 4 of us went for Sarasota restaurant week - 3 courses for $29. Each course offered 3 very well thought out choices, not as sophisticated as the regular menu choices, but well executed. Portion sizes were also smaller than normal, and there was no side with my entree (a crab cake) other than literally a tablespoon of jicama slaw, but we found that we were all satisfied at the end of the meal. Decor and background music are modern and sexy."

  • "Louie's Modern is indeed modern...minimalist decor, beautifully situated in downtown Sarasota, on artsy Palm Avenue, a block for the Florida Studio Theatre stages - a perfect place for an quick bite before the theatre or a leisurely repastl in the evening."

  • "This was my second time dining at Louie's Modern. This visit was during Savor Sarasota week. Louie's did not disappoint! We had a reservation for a late lunch. They offered us the three course prix fixe dinner menu for the lunch price and the regular menu was also available. Our party of four - including my son who is an accomplished executive chef, enjoyed a 3 course sampling: lamb meatballs with couscous, jumbo lump crab cakes, field green salad, flatiron steak frites, chilled corn gazpacho and for dessert, creme brulee and chocolate Marquis - a flourless chocolate cake with white chocolate creme Anglais. Our waiter was efficient and professional. Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience at Louie's Modern and plan to return again."

  • "We were a party of 2 going during Sarasota flavor week. The place is beautiful, service was excellent. I ordered a drink with tequila and prosecco and had to return it because there was no prosecco. We ordered the lamb meatballs, it tasted like chef Boyardee with a pinch of cinnamon. I ordered the crabcake as the main course. The size portion was ridiculous! So small I thought it was a joke. Dessert was a chocolate marquise which was probably the best thing we ate there. Wine list was interesting. The place to see and be seen but certainly not the place to eat a good meal."

  • "Have dined at Louies multiple times in the year since they opened and the latest vist was frankly, disappointing. We dined during Restaurant week as a party of 6 and maybe they don't see that as a chance to impress people so they'll come back but food quality was less than impressive, the steak frites heavily smoke flavored and tough, the Crabcake entree a single small cake on a appetizer plate with a small teaspoon of coleslaw, the chicken entree was the only tasty selection of the 6 meals. Service was OK given how busy it was but have had better at this restaurant. As neighbors, we'll give it another try but it will be a while since Sarasota has so many very good restaurant alternatives and you just can't afford... a miss. "

  • "We went for Savor Sarasota and were very disappointed. Most restaurants use Savor Sarasota as an opportunity to showcase what they do well. It seemed as if Louie's resented participating and did not put much effort forward. The crab cake was just average and was laughably small. My steak was burnt. I understand and enjoy a good crust, that is not what this was. The top of my steak was covered with bitter burnt layer that was the result of poor cooking and/or a dirty grill. All of our other dishes were just average. The service was not very attentive and the food took a long time."

  • "What an wonderful restaurant! From the modern decor to the fantastic food, you cannot go wrong here! It got a bit loud as the evening progressed and the bar scene picked up (definitely a "vibrant bar scene"), but not enough to be interfering. Our group included a Vegan, two who are gluten intolerant, and 3 carnivores, and we all found great menu selections that left us more than satisfied. Six of us fit comfortably in their circular booth and had a great view of all the bustling activity. I loved watching all the "oh,I wonder what that is?"menu selections coming out to the tables. We all agree that this is now on our Favorite Sarasota Restaurants' List and we will definitely be back! Perhaps for the Saturday and Sunday brunch?"

  • "Louie's Moderne offered their usual well-executed , contemporary twist on food favorites; all selections flavorful with eye catching presentations. Cosmopolitan dining in eclectic Sarasota. Wait staff could have been more pleasant instead of robotic. Smooth and prompt service for this table of 8."

  • "once again I found my self traveling to Sarasota for bussiness, my thought Yea I get to return to Louies modern. I was not disapointed. The food, service and wine was great. As a addeded bonus it was Savor Saratoga week, 3 course meal for $29.99.I Cant wait to eat there again.!!"

  • "We requested a table for six in our reservation and we're seated in a booth with one chair. It was not comfortable for our group of various sized adults. All tables seat four. There was one table seating for eight. If this is a concern for your group go in multiples of four or pick a different restaurant"

  • "All thumbs up across the board. Energetic atmosphere, mixed crowd of young hipsters and older folk, great service, food was outstanding. My wife loved the hamachi appetizer and thought the grouper main course was very good. I loved both my shrimp cocktail appetizer and the wood grilled duckling entree was simply brilliant. "

  • "We have eaten at Louies about 5 times and had another very nice meal. However, this time did not quite live up to our prior excellent experiences in two regards, firstly the service was a bit slow on a night when the reastaurant was only about a third full. Secondly, I ordered the swordfish special and the found the beautiful thick cut which was cooked perfectly was overpowered by a very "bittery" citrus sauce--too bad as something simpler would have been better. The burrata starter was excellent as usual and the clams with chorizo and tuna main courses were very good."

  • "This is my 5th time dining at this restaurant. Food was outstanding and very tasty. Service for the first time was average. Waitress was all over the restaurant from one end to the other. The restaurant didn't seem understaffed. I do not believe we got the right attention!"

  • "This was a fepeat visit. Reservation for 7:30 ready when we arrived. Our water was efficient but could have been a bit more friendly. We heard the specials but had to adk the prices. Food was delivered as ordered and spacing of courses was very timely. Food here is always great. Prices were as expected FOT this quality restaurant The ambiance is upbeat and decor modern and comfortable. We will return."

  • "Louie's, since they've opened, has always been our "go to" spot when we're entertaining friends from out of town because they never let us down and last night was no exception. Despite it being a holiday weekend, they had our requested booth waiting for us the minute we arrived. Our guests, from NYC, were pleasantly surprised at the stylish presentations of all the food and commented that a meal like we had would have cost at least double in NYC but wouldn't have been as good. Our waiter, Ryan, was spectacular and gave a very detailed explanation of any dish our guests were considering. Another big plus is that Louie's always lets us dine at a relaxed pace which makes for a perfect evening, especially when entertaining friends."

  • "The ambience at Louie's Modern is second to non in Sarasota. The service was excellent. However, the menu leaves a lot to be desired. Hopefully just the after-season doldrums. Almost every dish appears to be designed to be something "more" than what it should be. Solid "household staples" are not really part of the menu. The new doughnut desert was not edible - too much cinnamon sugar. The Kale Cesar salad is probably one of the best salads served anywhere in Sarasota. "

  • "If you're looking for upbeat, creative, delicious food and ambiance...to sit at the bar or enjoy a table full service....No matter your age, this is the place! I forgot to mention its a full 5star bar AND wine list! What a welcome, long overdo treat for Sarasota!"

  • "Two in our party ordered the pork chop, and they especially did not like the duck fat roasted Brussels sprouts. One other had the margarita pizeta which was bland and soggy with just the tiniest sprinkling of fresh basil. Putting tomatoes directly on a crust will alway produce a soggy crust because of the water in the tomatoes. Probably won't go back"
