A word from Louie's Italian Restaurant and Bar
Louie's Italian Restaurant & Bar
Celebrates Italian Fare With Neighborhood Appeal
Italian cuisine is known for its depth and variety of flavors, fresh ingredients, and classic comfort. Its diverse appeal, from tastes and textures to styles and regions, make Italian cuisine a family favorite. When Ron Rosa with the new managment introduced Louie's Italian Restaurant & Bar, in 2008, he set out to capture the essence of his favorite Brooklyn neighborhood restaurants from his childhood. This Italian restaurant located in Cos Cob, Connecticut embodies just this; a classic family style Italian restaurant that pays tribute to Rosa's favorite Uncle Louie, for whom the restaurant is named.

Diner Reviews
  • "My family chose this restaurant for an early dinner on a special night. The food was good in spite of a lackluster and somewhat condescending waiter. Maybe he was having a bad start (our reservation was at 5:30) but he couldn't provide us with his favorites. He couldn't tell me what kind of pasta the special was served with that evening. Also, the molten chocolate cake was a mini bundt cake with chocolate sauce poured in the center hole not INSIDE the cake. Weird. Anyway, I like the restaurant, so I will give it a try again. Could have been a bad night. It was packed as we were leaving."

  • "The food is very good, service is good and the ambiance is is the main dining room is very pleasant - especially when the fire is going on a very snowy cold night."

  • "Food is always good and so is service. My only compliant is they are not baby friendly. Everytime we make reservation to eat they sit us at the worst table possible with an infant I feel on purpose so we will not return. other than that we enjoy the food tremendously."

  • "This was formerly Augie's, and now has an Italian theme. They've left the beauty of the bar, and the homey atomsphere. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. The menu offers lots of Italian dishes both old and new, and the prices are moderate. I loved it and will go back soon."

  • "We love Louie's. Most of all, the food is spectacular and all dishes are done well - pasta, meats, seafood, appetizers and desserts too. A real home run. Lively atmosphere and fun vibe. Recommend to all."

  • "Sorry for Louie's that their valet people make such a bad first impression. We were afraid to leave our car and keys. Rightly so. We arrived and the valet was yelling about the previous customer. Shouting and swearing. Then drove our car like a crazy man, fast out of their lot. When we returned end of night they gave us the wrong car!!! and had given out car away 5 minutes earlier to another patron! Fortunately she realized it was not hers as we said this was not ours. Someone had been smoking in our car during the time with the valet service. I would not go there again unless they figure out this situation."

  • "I had been told Louie's was very good but avoided it because I thought it would be noisy as most restaurants are these days. I went New Year's eve for a very early dinner and had requested a warm table away from the bar. I was seated right next to the fireplace which was great! The food was wonderful! I had the lemon sole with a sauce that was so flavorful. My friend had the scampi arrabiata. I don't know what was scampi about it but the hot pepper sauce was to die for. We couldn't stay for dessert, but I will definitely be back to try many things on the menu that were different than most Italian restaurants. They had a different flair to the standards. Prices were usual for the area. This is my new favorite!"

  • "We eat at Louies very regularly, and it used to be our favorite restaurant until this week. The manager, most of the waitstaff and even the valet parking staff have moved to Polpo. This change has robbed the restaurant of its atmosphere And good food. We ordered the snapper which was soaked in a horrid red sauce. Totally disappointing even though the new staff was trying very hard. The wine list and wine by the glass is weak at best and think we will sadly make other choices from now on. It was our go to spot."

  • "Went with friends from the area that remembered it as Augies, but had never tried it. We were all very pleasantly surprized by the wonderful food and ambiance. It has the feel do a good local spot..a well kept secret. The Italian fare was well prepared and served in good portion size."

  • "Great local place. Live 200 miles away and really only tripped over it while nearby. Total locals place, so if you don't like a loud bar, mixed, friendly crowd and good food and service, don't go. Not your high-brow meal experience. If, however, you want to put on some casual clothes...not sloppy, I said casual...hang out, have a couple drinks, enjoy a great meal and some great people, swing by. Total find."

  • "We had dinner last Friday at louie's - we have eaten there many times before. We were a party of six. When they brought the bill they added a 20% tip on everything including the tax. I was going to give a 20% tip as I usually do but I told the waiter that I thought that this was obnoxious. Tips should be earned - they are not owed and 20% is supposed to be for outstanding service. So I was very unhappy about this. What Restaurants like Louie's should understand is I may not come back or if I do I will think about it first. Be smart - people don't like being told they need to pay a tip."

  • "On a Sat. nite, we had a reservation for 4 people at 7:45pm. We were not seated until 8:30pm. We stood in the overcrowded bar area and could not have a conversation with our friends. No one apologized for the delay nor did they keep us updated on the delay. Another group had been waiting 1 hour for their reserved table. When we finally were seated, the dining room was equally noisy and we could hardly have conversation at our small table for 4. The wait staff kept coming thru rolling additional tables in and out of the dining room which was somewhat disruptive. Our waiter was pleasant and the food was good, but I'll never go back, nor will I recommend it to anyone."

  • "I love Louie's. Food is always great. I was totally baffled that they would not substitute pasta for roasted potatoes. It makes NO sense."

  • "Perhaps this restaurant is meant to be kid friendly, but we arrived 6 pm on Sunday with six adults. There were two families with ,literally, screaming children in the back room. The parents thought that was fine. One table got up and left. We asked a waiter if we could move to another room, and he was incredibly rude and said no. Then we asked the bartender and he was apologetic and got us another room. And the hostess told us the these two families with children often cause other patrons to leave. It was a true example spoiled brats. They really ruined our dining experience!"

  • "Adequate. It's a great location and a great concept, but despite the efforts at energetic Southern Italian, it's tired and the menu is standard and ordinary. the cooking is undistinguished as well. With a little innovation, the place could be fantastic. As it is, it's a nice thing to have, but it suffers from undue self-satisfaction."

  • "This restaurant was a great find. My wife & I love it. Since finding it three months ago, we thoroughly enjoyed our fourth dinner there. The food is truly great. I assure you, try it and you'll agree. I am not a wine drinker, so I cannot honestly comment on their wine list. But looking around, there are plenty of wine glasses in the hands of diners toasting. I prefer their range of whisky's."

  • "Louie's is a stand-by of ours, we like the staff and the food is good for its price point. But last night, two entrees, scallops and the Italian encrusted grouper were pretty bad, over-cooked, indifferently seasoned. It got us thinking that we have had more than a few off nights at Louie's recently, and we hope it is not a trend."
