We called ahead to make sure it was kid friendly. My definition of kid friendly is a dedicated kid's menu. They did not have a kid's menu but gave us a few verbal options."

  • "The restaurant was beautiful and looked much like I would have found an upscale speakeasy from years past. Further, the ambiance was great with darks woods, stained glass and a beautiful bar. One would expect Frank Sinatra to have hung out and dined at such a place. The service was excellent and our waiter Ben was outstanding. I had the Mahi Mahi and my wife had the steak. The fish was fair but the filet my had was amazing! Best steak I've tasted in years. We'll worth the price if the meal. The sides were great, made for two, and drinks were smooth. I would totally recommend this place to anyone looking for an elegant dinner or even a casual lunch. It's proximity in the Gas Lamp area is great."

  • "Good wedge salad to start. "Kansas-style" bone-in New York Strip might have been the best I've ever had - and I've had a lot. Creamed spinach was too leafy to my taste, as I prefer it to be chopped more finely. Dinner rolls were amazing - hot and fresh."

  • "Great drinks and food. One of our meals was not real hot when delivered and the server promptly solved that issue. On top of that, at the end of the meal, they insisted we pick out a desert for the inconvenience of having to warm up the food plate. They went way above and beyond with their personal service. We will be back soon!"

  • "We always come down here when in town. The food and service is always great. It's best during off hours as it's right across the street from the convection center. Large selections in their "raw bar" if you're into that. Parking is tough on 5th but there's a large garage on 6th for about $10 or $15 non-event days. The trolley stops a couple hundred feet away as well."

Piña Colada's and cheesecake and chocolate cake were also very good. We are visiting San Diego and are definitely going back at least 1-2 more times."

  • "Nice ambiance. Comfortable chairs. Clean. Friendly and efficient servers and staff. Chef knows how to prepare steaks properly. I like 'black and blue' and my guest ordered medium rare - both steaks were served perfect to order. The beef is quality, great flavor. The side sauces are quite good but you get very little sauce for $3. Sides were enough for two to share. The ice cream is the best dessert, really flavorful and creamy! I would not suggest the sea urchin as it is not tasty at all. The oysters seemed to lack flavor, perhaps not as fresh - plus it takes them forever to shuck and serve. THIS IS A NICE STEAKHOUSE and a welcome change to the standard chains in the area. I don't often brag about ice cream, but here YUM!"

  • "Was hoping for much much more, place was way to loud I could even talk with the person sitting two feet from me with out screaming. Had to ask for a drink from the bar never asked if wanted one, never refilled our water glasses or brought refills of iced tea to the table. Steak was swimming in butter to the point it solidified before we could finish our meals. Mac n Cheese was more like velvet and shells. Overall not a good choice... I was really hoping to find a new steak house in San Diego, this is not it. Will not be back."

  • "We had the great pleasure of celebrating our daughter's birthday at Lou & Mickey's. First: the food was fabulous. Steaks were incredibly tender and flavorful. Appetizers were terrific and the wine list notable. Second: the attention from wait staff was second to none. Demi was our server, knowledgable, unobtrusive but frequently checking in, and personable. Water was kept filled, and table kept clean of used items. Our daughter topped off her evening with a dessert cocktail, compliments of the house. Happy Birthday? Yes, it was!"

  • "As San Diego residents, my wife and I look forward to a "stay-cation" now and then. Lou & Mickey's is an excellent spot for any "special occasion" dinner. Right next to the Hilton Gaslamp (which I'd also recommend). The seafood was good, but nothing to brag about. The baseball sirloin steak was outstanding. They stuck us at a small table for two toward the back of the restaurant, and it seemed like the server sort of forgot us. We had to flag folks down a few times, and little things like refreshing the table setting with new forks were missing. Get the augratin potatos. Outstanding!"

  • "We dined on Valentine's Day so the restaurant was very crowded. Given that, the service was still exceptional. My filet was perfectly cooked medium rare and the Roasted Beet with Goat Cheese Salad is my new favorite. My husband ordered the Coronado Cosmo, which was a great twist on an old favorite. All-in-all a wonderful place."

  • "I went to Lou & Mickey's while attending a conference in San Diego. We were seating quickly and our waiter was very good and brought our cocktails out so we could enjoy while reviewing the menu. We shared an salad and crab cakes which were both excellent. My boss had the mahi mahi which he loved and I had the halibut. The halibut was good and there was more fish than I could eat. We had asparagus and spinach as sides and couldn't finish either. Unless you are a big eater, one side is plenty if you have starters before your main course. The restaurant is very pretty and even when busy has a nice easy elegance about it which makes it a place that you would like to return to another time."

  • "We were looking for a special place in San Diego and found Lou & Mickey's, described as a "casual and friendly" place with great steaks. We arrived early for our reservation, but we were seated promptly, even though we rejected their first table offering: my back would not survive a high bar stool. The place has an old-time English club atmosphere, with lots of wood paneling that contributes to a very noisy dining experience. Service was impeccable, and the steaks were good, but the menu is entirely a la carte, with the steaks themselves in the $35-$50 range. Side dishes are expensive but big enough to share if you agree on one. The dinner was good, but not worth the price. Next time, I'll try a different steakhouse in the Gaslamp district."

  • "Planning ahead I made reservations for 4pm on Friday- valentines day. No mention of a "limited" menu was indicated when the reservation was made. When we arrived we discovered the regular menu was unavailable and "only" the $70 per person meal was being served. The fixed menu was in place for Friday Saturday and Sunday. The waiter said the kitchen could not offer the full menu because they were booked solid! I'm disappointed the fixed menu was not advertised or mentioned. I don't begrudge them for wanting to maximize the weekends profits but seriously, the kitchen can't keep up because it's valentines day??. You've lost us as customers and we will not dine here again due to your greed and poor communication."

  • "first time ever i have been there, went on a recommendation. Usually go to Island Prime, Donovans' or Ruth' Chris (only if i have to) what a treat. the appetizer with goat cheese, roasted garlic, brushetta and texas toast was to die for. i had filet, as good as it gets. My freind had the crusted halibut and is still talking about it. My wife had the pork porterhouse and didn't need a knife. a true treat, and a well deserved 5 star!!!"
