Diner Reviews
  • "Lotus Blue is an exceptional Chinese food restaurant. I first went to Lotus Blue with a friend, whose Chinese friend from business school recommended this restaurant. It has first class food. Make sure you try to mushroom and chicken soup in a pot."

  • "Dine with friend at 8 pm, it was crowded. Good thing that we had made a reservation. Food was good but no surprise. I will say better try if you never go there, but I will not go again."

  • "LOVE LOVE LOVE This restaurant. The food was outstanding. Need to clean up the entrance way to the back but overall I would recommend it to anyone."

  • "I had been there twice. The food there were good. But they don't set heat on. The place was cold both times in the lunch time. I have the leave my coat on during the lunch, and I noticed that some other people had their coats on as well. I suspect that the restaurant turn of the heat after closing. Therefore, when they turn on heat start opening for lunch, it was really cold in there without heat for long hours. Even kept my coat, it was still cold there. I have been to many other restaurants, none of them operating without heat on."

  • "My husband and I stopped in Lotus Blue for a quick dinner before a movie this past weekend. The atmosphere was really fun and trendy. Fun drink menu, and lots of choices on the food menu, but be aware of the SPICE! In both the food and the drinks! We asked the waiter to help us pick the least spicy chicken and neither of us could stomach the dish. The food in general wasnt that great, to be honest. Besides the spicy chicken dish, we picked at a couple of starters, and nothing stood out as being great. The ribs we ordered were very fatty. I would probably not go back here again."

  • "We had a great time because the atmosphere was nice and the choices were interesting (had never tried Yunnan cuisine before). The scallion pancakes and the smoked duck were both good, though not super healthy (somewhat greasy, though tasted great). The special soup we had (chicken, shrimp, vegetables) was more healthy, but quite bland. They get props for not using any MSG though, the food felt real."

  • "We went with a group to this restaurant as it is new in our neighborhood. Although the reviews were good, i disagree. There was limited food for vegans or vegetarians, and those dishes that they did have were extremely spicy. The food was reasonably priced, but the quality was not very good. Scallion panckaes were greasy and although they told us to order some of the tofu dishes, they were not mild at all and indeed were too spicy to eat. we will not be going back."

  • "Food was just cheap Chinese with a nicer sign. Very disappointing."

  • "We loved this place. Lots of energy and bright colors, and our waiter was thoroughly entertaining and helpful. The menu is atypical and we just dove into things we didn't recognize just to try them. We were really suprised by the variety of hot spices mixed with cool veggies and fruits. Plates are large so don't go overboard on apps. Priced really well."

  • "This was our first time here - ans we will definitely be coming back again and again!! LOVED the AMAZING food!! Everything was delicious!! Our waiter was wonderful and so helpful. He helped us select our dishes - one was better than the next. The menu is extensive - there are so many more things we want to try! This restaurant is a gem - a great find!!"

  • "Very distinct flavors; delicious dishes. Not the usual Chinese menu. Well worth it; reasonable prices as well."

  • "An experience. The type of place you would go out of your way for. So close to Holland tunnel and free parking on street if you are savvy. Great place to meet friends and split a bill, or even treat yourself. Affordable. Family style and just cool all around being the Only spot to find the style of Chinese cuisine. My new spot."

  • "one of the best asian restaurants in the city! the food is authentic Yunnan cuisine and they don't stint on the spices. if you are not adventurous, don't like spicy food and don't care about authenticity, this is not for you. service can be a bit slow, but the cocktails make waiting less of a bummer! personal favorites: banana blossom salad, yunnan style steamed sole fillets, steamed pork belly, long horn chili chicken. flank steak stir fry, stir fried smoked tofu. go with a few friends so you can share dishes and get a taste of everything! desserts were kinda blah."

  • "If you're looking for great Chinese food, Yunnan cuisine in particular, then head for the triangle below Canal and score a table at Lotus Blue. Not your typical NYC "egg roll joint," Lotus Blue packs a lot of flavor into its courses, including its pork or mushroom dumplings, its rice noodle soups or its array of fish dishes. The service is great and the setting is casual but clean and well-appointed. And don't forget to order a specialty cocktail, which are 2-for-1 between 5 and 7 pm."
