L'OrcioGreat choice in New HavenFine Italian dining about a mile from the Yale campus on a quiet street. Lovely backyard patio. Exceeded expectations. Service attentive not intrusive. Kitchen on its game. Avoids the "loud" scene so common today.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Homemade Italian FoodA few of my closest friends had returned to the area for our school reunion and decided to meet the night before for dinner at L'Orcio. What a good choice! The restaurant has nice ambiance with attentive service, a good wine list and absolutely delicious homemade pasta dishes. (For a dollar more, you can order half portions, which allowed us to sample quite a few items on the menu.) One of the specials, papardelle with crab and tomato sauce was especially good. We finished our meal with coffee, tea and some wonderful homemade Italian-inspired desserts. I'd love to come back the bext time I'm in New Haven.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMOur dinner was outstandingOur dinner was outstanding food and service was great.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing homemade pasta...bestAmazing homemade pasta...best lobster ravioli ever...portions could have larger!!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this place! The food is consistently fabulous! Freshest of ingredients. Had the fresh gnocchi with a lamb ragout. OUTSTANDING! There were six of us, and everyone enjoyed. It took a bit of a time to get the wine we ordered, other than that, everything was great.
Will definitely go back.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AM"Neighborhood Gem" is rightSitting on the patio under a half-moon last night, we greeted the beginning of summer: a luscious Sangiovese, meltingly tender noodles in ragu sauce, Scottish salmon over gnocchi, pear sorbet, torte alla nonna .... Ah! All was quiet, the flurry of graduation in most of New Haven's colleges was over. Our tactful server was there when needed but not when not. Luxe, calme, et volupte.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMYale GraduationWe booked L'Orcio for my daughter's graduation as we had a party of 8 and had been happy with our meals on previous trips. While most of our entrees were standouts, great Branzino, great Sea Bass, very nice Spinach/Ricotta Ravioli (the exception the Halibut Ravioli), and a very good Caprese and Calamari (very unique and tasty preparation), the desserts were even better! The Chocolate Mousse and Flourless Chocolate Torte were both two of the best desserts anywhere - and we had a great time sharing them. The wine list, leaning mostly Italian, is incredibly diverse and well-priced. The Sagrantino we had was very nice and priced really well. This is a "do-again" place any time we're in New Haven.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGourmet Italian Food, WonderfulNew Haven is well known for Italian restaurants. I would have to say this is one of the best. Emphasis is on house made gourmet pastas. I got half portions of two because I just couldn't decide. They have other entrees of course, but the pastas were great. Very delicate, thin ravioli, for example, filled with spinach and ricotta. We started with salads, mine being a farro/spelt salad with mozz and basil that was something a bit different and was great. We had a very nice Italian white wine, and finished with a cheese course that was also excellent. I should also mention that the restaurant is In what used to be a house so the dining spaces are small, with downstairs, upstairs, and outside areas available.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMMy new Favorite restaurantThe food here is thoughtfully prepared and delicious. The staff is warm and friendly. The outdoor dining is a beautiful and peaceful spot - I would certainly recommend it in nice weather. The portions are generous and the price is surprisingly moderate considering the level of culinary excellence!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMRecommend Sitting OutdoorsI made reservations here for my sister's graduation. The restaurant wasn't took busy and I made the reservation since the pictures on their website has a beautiful outdoor area. When we got there, they couldn'y let us sit outside since I didnt specifically mention that when I made the reservation. SO note to self - you want to sit outside! The indoor area is nice as well, some exposed brick, nice ambiance.
Food was EXCELLENT! Highly recommend!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went here to celebrateWe went here to celebrate my son's college graduation and Mother's Day. The food was terrific and the service was on point. I would definitely return.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGift card delightI bid on a gift card at a silent auction and won. First it's nice to know the LOrcio supports good causes. Food was excellent t and price was fair. Margarita was very good and the wines available by the glass, including prosecco, were of good quality. Atmosphere was very relaxing and most important, not noisy like many other places. I had a fish special that was delicious. I would definitely go there again. It's a little off the beaten path as far as foot traffic in New Haven but there is easy parking in a lot across the street. Another plus. Great spot overall.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst visit to L'orcioFood and drinks were very good. Service was fair; waiter was waiting on a large party also. We didn't get much attention. It is a delightful small restaurant with a wonderful outdoor eating area. I will go back to try other items on the wonderful menu. Maybe service will improve. If not, we'll cross them off our list.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMconsistantly good food and serviceI've eaten at L'Orcio a dozen times in the past year. Each time has been a pleasure. The food is consistently very good and the service has always been great. It can get a bit noisy during the typical dinner hours, however if you're in the mood for an energetic environment then you won't mind this at all.
If you want great Italian choices and a comfortable environment you'll definitely want to give L'Orcio a try.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMI adore l'orcio. AuthenticI adore l'orcio. Authentic Italian dishes with a modern interpretation. The salmon was to die for4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMI have been wanting to tryI have been wanting to try L'Orcio so went with 2 friends during restaurant week. We had a lovely dinner of appetizer, entree, and dessert; everything was absolutely delicious and the service was superb. Prior to dinner we had martinis at the bar and were seated for dinner right next to it. There were people seated at the bar during our dinner; the noise level was no different and we never even noticed the people coming and going. Definitely a place to go to more often - ambiance was lovely, dress was casual, and pricing was in line with the quality of the food and service. When I return I'll request a table outside, it was a little too chilly when we were there.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMRestaurant Week-DinnerI went for New Haven restaurant week with a friend so it was pretty busy, but we only had to wait like 5 minutes for our table because we had made reservations beforehand. Our waitress was so nice and very attentive which is always great. The food was pretty good and the selection was ok, not too many options but enough. My mozzarella and tomato appetizer was so good, simple yes, but sooooooooo yummy! The main dish was good too, I had Scottish salmon with gnocchi, I just wish the serving size was more. Lastly, I ordered a cappuccino with my tiramisu. Nothing special, pretty standard, but good nonetheless. I would go again but probably for lunch because it could be really pricey otherwise, and if I'm paying $$$, I expect to be blown away.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMdisappointed that i was tempteddisappointed that i was tempted by two restaurant week specials that you ran out of! but my 2nd choices were as delicious as expected. and marcelo was an excellent server.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and service, willGreat food and service, will return soon and often.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely Faboulous...as usualEverything was fantastic as usual! We ordered 6 different entrees and everyone was pleased!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMHighly Recommended- Fresh foodI went to L'Orcio for restaurant week dinner. The food I had was delicious, although my date didn't particularly enjoy his plate. We had the seafood salad and lamb and ricotta gnocchi and caprese salad, all of which were fresh and very satisfying. My had eggplant ravioli, which was a much smaller plate than the gnocchi, and he didn't think was anything special. Overall it was a very nice experience with friendly waitstaff and great decor. I will definitely come back here again.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AML'Orcio is always a greatL'Orcio is always a great meal & an excellent time4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went during New Haven'sWe went during New Haven's restaurant week in April, 2013. Our waiter was professional and friendly. We had an early Sunday dinner reservation and noticed that the restaurant quickly filled up by 6:00. The bar was large and warm with exposed brick that added a nice ambiance. Would definitely recommend for a tasty, well-priced meal in lovely surroundings. There is an outdoor patio too that would be perfect in the warmer months.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Cuisine and professionalLorcio always exceeds our expectations for food and sevice.
