Superb dishes creatively prepared with the freshest and most flavorful ingredients. We ordered 3 pasta dishes and each was outstanding - perfectly cooked squash-filled tortelli with a delicious sage sauced, perfectly cooked spaghetti with spicy tomatoes and sweet clams and mussels and perfectly cooked ravioli with creamy cheese and chunks of seafood. Excellent does not say enough to describe the most tender veal I have ever been served. The service was friendly yet professional. The wine recommendation was reasonably priced and had just the flavors we had asked for. Be sure to try one of the chocolate desserts.

The tasting menu had very tasty, small (this is good) servings and excellent wines. It was memorable! The creamsickle desert was very bitter and had large chunks of ice in the sorbet. It was a gorgeous presentation but was memorably awful. We have been going to this restaurant for about 15 years and it is always a treat.

This was our first time to go to L'Opera and it was a treat. We got the ravioli with Osso Bucco and it was amazing. It was also Sunday which is 1/2 off wine night so we had an amazing bottle of wine as well. It was fantastic.

Used to be a much better restaurant all around, now is just mediocre. The food was nothing special and the calamari was so overcooked it stuck tobether, and smelled very fishy. Would not recommend or return.

Looking at the website, the food appeared tasty, fresh, and simple (very mediterrean) and the reviews on other food sites said it was a great place to gather. So for my first trip I had clients with me on a weekday, 12noon. There was no crowd so we had ample room to enjoy the classy, upscale interior. Our waiter, David, was VERY attentive to our needs allowing us time to order AND do business. The anniversary 3-course tasting menu (a steal at $22) was divine. Absolutely LOVED my steak entree but was impressed with how David waited for my client to cut her meat open, ensuring it was cooked correctly. She sent it back and when it returned, it was perfection. The pannacotta dessert was subtle, creamy fresh, and a nice ending. Will come back!

We ordered a set 5 course meal, but found that the portions were very small and left still hungry. Because of this experience and the price we paid for two of us to dine I don't think we will be visiting L'Opera again. We would like to and maybe order off the regular menu, but I don't want to spend another $160 for us to leave still a little hungry again. This is a shame as I loved the restaurant and the food.

    ArizonaTravelerVIP
    Dined on 6/14/2008
Went there for a day-before Father's Day dinner. Though not very busy for a Saturday, the service was well below par. The waiter, when he could be found, seemed like he was practicing for a career as a comedian. The calamari was oily and chewy. The "special" seabass was over cooked and dried out. The veal chop was over cooked and not medium rare. My two big strapping sons left half their food on their plates. Unheard of with them. The decorations and atmosphere were very nice. Given the poor quality of the food and the even poorer quality of the waiter, I'd have to say that this was a once great, now over-rated place. If you're in love and don't know any better, might be great for you. I won't be back.

I found a small pebble in my food, the restaurant claimed it was a peppercorn but it was just too hard, that really hurt when I bit into it. The restaurant took the food off the bill and apologized, handling the situation as any good restaurant should, with professionalism. Even with this incident I would continue to recommend this restaurant as a good choice for Italian food in downtown Long Beach.

I was very disappointed in my experience this Saturday at L'Opera. Normally I rave about the place but I walked away apologizing to my guest for the experience. I was prepared to take my guest to the place for their birthday thinking it would be a romantic atmosphere with great food. What I got was a short menu due to the IRL racing and a waiter who kept bringing the wrong wine, took too long to come back to continue our order and overall since of chaos. I tried to defend the place to my guest saying that IRL racing was too blame but the restaurant should not have coprimised their normal style.
