Diner Reviews
  • "The food and ambiance were very nice but the service was slow. Our lunch order wasn't taken for 35 minutes. There seemed to be only one server for the roughly 10 occupied tables. She did bring a free dessert and apologize for the slow service."

  • "Ive eaten here for many years... usually excellent... but this time the food was very average... my veal was tough and way over cooked."

  • "Once again our visit to L'Opera was beyond our expectations for outstanding service, food and wine! Our waitress April, met our every need and more. Julia, the manager, reserved the special table we requested and our friends were thrilled as well. Don't neglect this special gem whenever you are in Long Beach or will be meeting someone halfway from LA!"

  • "The hallmark of any successful restaurant is its consistency. It doesn't have to be the greatest restaurant there ever was, just consistent. People like knowing what they're going to get time after time. That L'Opera is truly an excellent restaurant on top of always being at the top in all categories makes it even better. Go there and have a wonderful time. You won't be disappointed. Bring along a copy of God's Banker to read while you're waiting for your guests. Goes great with a glass of Chianti."

  • "It's been 10 plus years since my last visit. It was again an Outstanding dining experience as reflected above. In particular our food counselor 0015 sorry no name, was double outstanding. His delivery was double outstanding. Keep up the good work As well, the tenor was very special and very impressive."

  • "We had dinner at L'Opera a few nights ago and it was very enjoyable. The waitress was attentive, service was quick (we told her we had to leave at a specific time and she made sure we were served quickly - but not rushed), she made helpful and accurate recommendations on the drinks and food. All three of us thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would return."

  • "...when you're celebrating a special occasion. You'll be less likely to be shocked at the cost of your dining experience. Worth every dollar. Everything was perfect."

  • "The service was just perfect. They allowed us to have a long, leisurely lunch but were there when we needed anything. It was quiet enough to really talk and the food was divine. I look forward to a return visit."

  • "My friend and I were seated immediately and the waiter attended us promptly. Although a little reserved, he clearly knew the menu after having worked there for 20 years. The restaurant was not busy. We order the ahi tuna tartar which was absolutely amazing. The presentation was composed and the flavors were spot on. The fish was extremely fresh and the components complemented the tuna but did not overwhelm. My friend order the rack of New Zealand lamb which he loved. My osso bucco was not good. The meat was dry and not seasoned well and the polenta was heavy with a thick tomato ragu. Truly disappointing. The dessert was a shared crème brulee, which was good but the top did not have that wonderful "crack"."

  • "L'Opera's week days' Happy Hour is first-rate. And imposing as, an early-eve date. The portions are generous, and generously discounted as "bar menu" fare however, remain just as glorious as, L'Opera's reputation. Known for their freshly-prepared, thoughtfully-added ingredients, and savory-aromas: Try the Vongole Piccanti, Manila young clams sautéed in their juice with white wine, parsley, and chili flakes, and/or the very-tender Carpaccio Classico. Both make a diner very happy and that is before sipping any of their signature"

  • "Nicely done. The server was very accommodating and did not bother. The restaurant was reasonably quiet; which was nice."

  • "We've been meaning to try this restaurant for years and we're glad we did. Service and food was very, very good! My grouper was delicious and my partner's filet (Filetto Alle Cipolline) was the best he's had in a long time. We finished our generous meal with Sachetto Di Ciocolate, a dark chocolate "sack" filled with fruit and a zabaione cream - delish! It's not a complaint, but the huge mural (painting) on their north wall didn't match the décor."

  • "Was visiting Long Beach and looking for an upscale restaurant. I could not find any in the triple -A guide. I happened to notice this restaurant when I went for a walk. What a surprise. What a gem. Excellent food, good service, and near all the better hotels. Food was well prepared. Presentation was appealing. Enjoyed every bit of it."

  • "L'Opera is one of the few restaurants in Long Beach that consistently delivers excellent food, service and atmosphere. I've been coming here for years. Definitely a "go to" spot!"

  • "The food was spectacular. My wife said her sea bass was the best she's ever had. My guests and I had fillet mignon prepared in different Italian styles--delicious. Wines were great and the desserts were gorgeous. A romantic place, but also great for large groups. It sits on the edge of the happening downtown long beach scene. So after dinner, catch a late night at the clubs and lounges next door v"

  • "Had not been here to dinner Ina LONG time and it was even better than we remembered. The veal scallopini was to die for and the beef tornedoes were 2 beautiful steaks cooked perfectly. Scott, our waiter was terrific, not rushing us nor pestering. Scott was perfect."

  • "While in Long Beach I ate at L'Opera two times and like the restaurant very much. The front are is more noisy than the back area. Our waiters were very knowledgeable and attentive to our needs. The food was prepared very well. I would definitely return to L'Opera if I return to Long Beach."

  • "Can always count on the restaurant to be a fun time. Food is slightly above average and service has been all over the place. Never bad but not always good. This last visit the food was good. Good wine and cocktails but service was mediocre. Missing menus missing server and not much of a personality. Love the place and will come back."

  • "We are from Boston and found L'Opera by reading up about fine dining experiences in Long Beach. We were not disappointed; indeed, it was so good we went there on successive nights. The food was excellent and the service incredible; if you have Alex as your server you will be in for an exceptional dining experience. I have certain things I cannot eat and was delighted how easy it was to make substitutions. If we were not nearly 3,000 miles away we would be regulars here."

  • "Most of the dishes were excellent, a few not so good. Service was outstanding. Ambiance was impressive, located in former bank building. Lunch menu has some great pricing. Live opera singers on certain evenings."

  • "Decided to try this restaurant after many years & all the great reviews. We had the Tartara Mediterranea. Layers of Italian flatbread with ahi tuna tarata, white bean hummus, dry cured olives, marinated fennel, harissa aioli and the Gamberi Alla Arancia; Golden brown hazelnut & bread crumb crusted black tiger shrimp, served with a mild citrus sauce. For entrees, the Mezzelune D' Aragosta and the Ravioli Al Tartufo. My husband enjoyed his pasta but mine had a very watery sauce and the appetizers were just average. Our table in the alcove was great but there were too many insects flying to enjoy the food. We brought a lovely Lucia Pinot Noir but the server never brought Pinot glasses, just pouring the wine in tiny table glasses."

  • "We live in san diego and cwere meeting friends from Detroit who were in town for a convention. Many places were already booked for Saturday night....the mor casual "regular" spots. I kept looking on trip advisor and came across l'opera. Oh so glad I did!! Not inexpensive, but all of us ordered different entrees and all 4 were delicious! Really wonderful flavors. The lone disappointment was the Caesar salad. Over dressed and nothing special to speak of at all. Pretty pricey and a fairly small portion - even for one....and both couples split one which ended up with a very small portion each. Sam, the "house" tenor came by to serenade. BIG voice!! Fun, but a bit "kitschy"."

  • "My wife and I came for our 20th anniversary dinner. My wife is a chef and had heard good things.Made a reservation for 7PM.Our server,Scott was exceptionally friendly and welcomed us promptly. We could tell that they were a bit under staffed and later heard one of the other servers stating that a group of 40 had come in off the street.Appetizer was excellent-frutti del mar.It took about an hour plus for our entrees. We weren't in a rush. Ordered two desserts to go and both were excellent (though the manager took the order and then forgot to notify Scott/bring it out-20 minutes later we got up and asked her for it again). They were no doubt recovering from the busy service. We'll be back, just wasn't planning on staying there for 2.5 hours."

  • "This restaurant served perhaps the best pasta dish I have ever had - even better than some restaurants in Italy! The staff is friendly and accommodating, the ambiance lovely, and the location close to the convention center. I understand late at night there is live opera. I went on a business dinner and cannot wait to have a romantic dinner with hubby. You won't go wrong with this restaurant."

  • "We have read many great reviews and decided to try L'Opera. The food was incredible both in taste and in presentation. We highly recommend this restaurant to everyone when visiting Long Beach."

  • "Dining while watching-one's-weight is easy at L'Opera - consistent quality of service & culinary science. Expectations are always exceeded, so states the palate. It's both the science of cooking & culinary art. Try the Battuta Di Pollo- a grilled chicken breast served over sautéed fingerling potatoes & steamed broccoli, excellent for the calorie conscious and weight watchers, as it is roasted in a garlic, lemon, and white wine sauce and accompanied with sautéed mushrooms. "

  • "We have had good luck in the past but this was a total loss. The service was fine but the good lacked in every way. Filet panini was served in a crumbled mess. Literally. Pastas were average at best. Lamb was very bland. Won't be going back for a long while."
