Diner Reviews
  • "We've been meaning to try this restaurant for years and we're glad we did. Service and food was very, very good! My grouper was delicious and my partner's filet (Filetto Alle Cipolline) was the best he's had in a long time. We finished our generous meal with Sachetto Di Ciocolate, a dark chocolate "sack" filled with fruit and a zabaione cream - delish! It's not a complaint, but the huge mural (painting) on their north wall didn't match the décor."

  • "Was visiting Long Beach and looking for an upscale restaurant. I could not find any in the triple -A guide. I happened to notice this restaurant when I went for a walk. What a surprise. What a gem. Excellent food, good service, and near all the better hotels. Food was well prepared. Presentation was appealing. Enjoyed every bit of it."

  • "L'Opera is one of the few restaurants in Long Beach that consistently delivers excellent food, service and atmosphere. I've been coming here for years. Definitely a "go to" spot!"

  • "The food was spectacular. My wife said her sea bass was the best she's ever had. My guests and I had fillet mignon prepared in different Italian styles--delicious. Wines were great and the desserts were gorgeous. A romantic place, but also great for large groups. It sits on the edge of the happening downtown long beach scene. So after dinner, catch a late night at the clubs and lounges next door v"

  • "Had not been here to dinner Ina LONG time and it was even better than we remembered. The veal scallopini was to die for and the beef tornedoes were 2 beautiful steaks cooked perfectly. Scott, our waiter was terrific, not rushing us nor pestering. Scott was perfect."

  • "I had the red chile ravioli stuffed with black truffles, wild mushrooms and cheese and it was fantastic. My mouth is still watering just thinking about how it tasted."

  • "While in Long Beach I ate at L'Opera two times and like the restaurant very much. The front are is more noisy than the back area. Our waiters were very knowledgeable and attentive to our needs. The food was prepared very well. I would definitely return to L'Opera if I return to Long Beach."

  • "Can always count on the restaurant to be a fun time. Food is slightly above average and service has been all over the place. Never bad but not always good. This last visit the food was good. Good wine and cocktails but service was mediocre. Missing menus missing server and not much of a personality. Love the place and will come back."

  • "We are from Boston and found L'Opera by reading up about fine dining experiences in Long Beach. We were not disappointed; indeed, it was so good we went there on successive nights. The food was excellent and the service incredible; if you have Alex as your server you will be in for an exceptional dining experience. I have certain things I cannot eat and was delighted how easy it was to make substitutions. If we were not nearly 3,000 miles away we would be regulars here."

  • "Most of the dishes were excellent, a few not so good. Service was outstanding. Ambiance was impressive, located in former bank building. Lunch menu has some great pricing. Live opera singers on certain evenings."

  • "Decided to try this restaurant after many years & all the great reviews. We had the Tartara Mediterranea. Layers of Italian flatbread with ahi tuna tarata, white bean hummus, dry cured olives, marinated fennel, harissa aioli and the Gamberi Alla Arancia; Golden brown hazelnut & bread crumb crusted black tiger shrimp, served with a mild citrus sauce. For entrees, the Mezzelune D' Aragosta and the Ravioli Al Tartufo. My husband enjoyed his pasta but mine had a very watery sauce and the appetizers were just average. Our table in the alcove was great but there were too many insects flying to enjoy the food. We brought a lovely Lucia Pinot Noir but the server never brought Pinot glasses, just pouring the wine in tiny table glasses."

  • "There were 3 of us and we all ordered something different. The food was excellent but our server was the highlight of the evening. She was friendly, knowledgable and was attentive."

  • "We live in san diego and cwere meeting friends from Detroit who were in town for a convention. Many places were already booked for Saturday night....the mor casual "regular" spots. I kept looking on trip advisor and came across l'opera. Oh so glad I did!! Not inexpensive, but all of us ordered different entrees and all 4 were delicious! Really wonderful flavors. The lone disappointment was the Caesar salad. Over dressed and nothing special to speak of at all. Pretty pricey and a fairly small portion - even for one....and both couples split one which ended up with a very small portion each. Sam, the "house" tenor came by to serenade. BIG voice!! Fun, but a bit "kitschy"."

  • "My wife and I came for our 20th anniversary dinner. My wife is a chef and had heard good things.Made a reservation for 7PM.Our server,Scott was exceptionally friendly and welcomed us promptly. We could tell that they were a bit under staffed and later heard one of the other servers stating that a group of 40 had come in off the street.Appetizer was excellent-frutti del mar.It took about an hour plus for our entrees. We weren't in a rush. Ordered two desserts to go and both were excellent (though the manager took the order and then forgot to notify Scott/bring it out-20 minutes later we got up and asked her for it again). They were no doubt recovering from the busy service. We'll be back, just wasn't planning on staying there for 2.5 hours."

  • "This restaurant served perhaps the best pasta dish I have ever had - even better than some restaurants in Italy! The staff is friendly and accommodating, the ambiance lovely, and the location close to the convention center. I understand late at night there is live opera. I went on a business dinner and cannot wait to have a romantic dinner with hubby. You won't go wrong with this restaurant."

  • "Dining while watching-one's-weight is easy at L'Opera - consistent quality of service & culinary science. Expectations are always exceeded, so states the palate. It's both the science of cooking & culinary art. Try the Battuta Di Pollo- a grilled chicken breast served over sautéed fingerling potatoes & steamed broccoli, excellent for the calorie conscious and weight watchers, as it is roasted in a garlic, lemon, and white wine sauce and accompanied with sautéed mushrooms. • "We have had good luck in the past but this was a total loss. The service was fine but the good lacked in every way. Filet panini was served in a crumbled mess. Literally. Pastas were average at best. Lamb was very bland. Won't be going back for a long while."

  • "The food is great, but the service is the star. In our case, we had a group of 9 for a dinner meeting. The server did a fantastic job making the evening easy on us, making an appetizer selection to suit our needs, recommending excellent entree choices, and being incredibly attentive without interrupting our meeting. I really can't say enough about the quality of service. The food was also excellent. :-)"

  • "I have eaten at almost all types of italian restaurants in various parts of the world, including Italy. I ordered Cannelloni, and to my surprise your version of it, were far from being the real plate that most of italian restaurants will serve, yours were more like a chinese california roll, deep fried with a salsa on top of it, the pasta was hard, maybe because it was previoously frozen. Anyway that was my dissappointment, the other plates ordered by my wife and my guest couple were okay to them. Sorry for the complaint, but your beautiful restaurant shall inprove this particular dish. Respectfully. Mario "

  • "Upon entering L'Opera you notice the friendliness of the maître die and the ambience of the restaurants decor. The servers are attentive and knowledgeable about the food and wine menu which was refreshing. Our entire evening was filled with fabulous food cooked to perfection, delicious wine, and pleasant service. Thank you for a delightful evening at L'Opera."

  • "This week I dined on Chef Walter Cotta's "Vellutata". A simple, savvy salad that is difficult to duplicate. It's shave green apple, fennel, celery, tarragon, spinach, arugula, and fresh strawberries lightly tossed in an apple-juice reduction (brilliant!) and shallot vinaigrette dressing. It's a great introduction into a prime paiatti - or fresh pasta, homemade and the best this side of Rome. A favorite of mine ( and calorie conscious"

  • "The food was toooo salty! I had the risotto and my son had ravioli with Alfredo sauce. Server was sooooo slow. The wine glasses were full of spots that server said they had no control over. It looked awful and they took them off the table. Such a disappointment."

  • "This is our "go to" spot for anniversaries, birthdays, meeting with friends, etc. The food is ALWAYS amazing, the service is top notch and when we introduce new diners they become dazzled also! We LOVE L'Opera! "

  • "We had a party of six for an early dinner. I just can't break away from your squash stuffed pasta in a butter sage sauce (there was some red sauce too). Tina was our server and she as always was terrific. So, I try to get there often, but you changed the recipe. The pasta was smaller and you added the red sauce. Please go back to the straight butter sage with the big tortellini! Thanks for all you do. All dinners were great. Thank you!"

  • "This restaurant was so good, we ate there twice! We sat at a table, and our server, Andrew, was very knowledgable with a humorous twist. The second night, we sat at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and new how to make a great cocktail. The food both nights was fabulous!"

  • "The food was delicious with unique flavors, atmosphere was comfortable and pretty, would most definitely return! Only thing, waiter made several mistakes including bringing the wrong dessert and the wrong wine - but he did fix the problem when we caught it and showed him."

  • "This is the best Italian food I've ever had. We have traveled 300+ miles to dine at l'opera, and it's worth it every time! We happened to make reservations and walked right in. Granted, it was early and the restaurant did full up quickly. All of their food, down to the pasta and desserts are made in-house. Being they are in long beach, they need an outdoor dining area! "

  • "Everytime I am in Long Beach we dine at least once at L'Opera and we have never been disappointed. The lamb, the salmon the Steaks - all perfect. Best Calamari we ever had. You won't be disappointed."

  • "I have visited this restaurant every time I have came back to long beach at least twice in the 4/5 days I come here. The food and the service are fantastic. The wine menu has some lovely choices and the food arrives in a timely manor, I would definitely recommend L' Operator anyone going bring friends, family, girlfriend or wife, this is definitely a must if your in long beach"
