Diner Reviews
  • "Best meal ever and perfect spot to celebrate my birthday. The tenderloin was cooked to perfection as was the duck breast. Great portions. The mashed potatoes were to die for. Beautiful lit patio with comfortable tables and chairs plus great music by the singer/saxophonist. Not too loud just beautiful background music. Extensive wine list, great waiter. Everything was perfect!"

  • "Excellent Restaurant . Food and Service We visited six years ago and then this past Saturday evening. We were not disappointed!"

  • "We loved the small intimate bar, where we had a cocktail before dinner. This is a true 'mixology' bar making classic cocktails the way they should be prepared. Kudos! Then out to beautiful outdoors dining. The somm suggested a nice super Tuscan that didn't break the bank. The meal from start to finish was excellent. We'll be back, but next time we plan to stay overnight in the beautiful intimate boutique hotel."

  • "A snippy hostess, with absolutely no provocation, is not a great way to start a lunch gathering. Being seated 15 minutes after your reservation time (when the restaurant is almost empty) only adds to the annoyance. Follow that with Chopped Salads that were nothing more than a pile of hard, raw, tasteless vegetables, with an occasional cube of cheese thrown in, and you have a lunch to forget. The only memorable thing we ate was a shared order of Truffle-Oil French Fries. Terrific! What's happened to Lon's? It used to be a favorite place to take guests? There's a revamped menu---is there also a new chef? We'll give it one more try because we've dined there for so many years. Hopefully, things will improve."

  • "We had our 30th anniversary dinner here and it was so romantic! The ambiance was perfect! Our server recommended dishes that we normally would not have tried and I am so glad we did!! Wine-perfect! Light live music in the background-perfect! LOVED this restaurant!"

  • "Our group of 10 all had a fantastic dining experience and could all engage in the conversation. The "three little pigs" entree was a real hit. Excellent wine options and the cocktails are well crafted. My guests were still talking about our dinner at Lon's the next day."

  • "When our food was served (we were out on the patio) the table was swarmed by flies…….dozens and dozens. It was unpleasant. The waiter stood there and swatted at them with a towel to try to help for a minute or so, then he commented that this has happened before at this particular table, which was at the far edge of the patio near the service area. The service area didn't appear to have a problem with them swarming around, and as soon as we finished eating they were gone. I've never had this happen before anywhere at a patio table. The reason I said that the service was only fair was that our water glasses were never refilled."

  • "Pastry Chef even came to our table after we tasted his excellent grapefruit tart! It was a winner. We were there for lunch. Too many flies outside, so we moved inside And had a great meal. Half portions are available and that really worked for all of us."

  • "One of my favorites in the Phoenix area; unfortunately we had some annoying flies around our table but the overall experience was very nice= this was a business lunch and went off quite well; dining al fresco this time of year at Lons is the best/"

  • "After probably seven years with Open Table, I believe this is my first five-star review. Excellent, excellent, excellent. The patio is beautiful with mountain views surrounding, tables are well spaced and the seating is comfortable for a leisurely dining experience. The tuna appetizer was exceptional: rare and cool inside, sizzling on the outside, as were the tenderloin with house-made bacon and the duck breast. iThe waiter was ridiculously attentive, but never once did he sneak up to ask me a question while I had a mouth full of food. Highly recommended for a special night or a night that you want to make special."

  • "Shared an artichoke and olive appetizer, olives were good, artichoke has simply no flavor. We shared a chopped salad which came in chunks, very little seasoning, very bland. Wine was good"

  • "Beautiful setting, peaceful with no blaring music, just the sounds of nature."

  • "We stayed at the Hermosa for several days, taking most of our meals at either Lon's or the bar. The service we experienced was amazing and the dishes served were spectacular. We can definitely recommend the short ribs, duck, tenderloin and grouper. Great wine list and an acceptable selection of craft beer (although no porters or stouts while we were there). Breakfast was also fantastic. If the weather is good, sit outside on their patio. Highly recommend."

  • "I booked reservations at Lon's as a belated birthday dinner for my husband. Although we are both native Arizonans neither of us had dined there, so I knew it would be special. The experience was delightful! I can see why their outdoor patio is award winning...beautifully landscaped with blooming plants and flowers, and live music too. We chose to sit on their back patio, which was equally inviting but quiet. The food was excellent, as was the service. The staff really go out of their way to make their guests feel welcome, which is not something you always find in restaurants these days. It is pricey, but worth it, especially for a special occasion dinner."

  • "We have enjoyed this spot many times in the past. The food was always really good and the setting and ambiance can't be beat. This time around we had their Sunday special menu. I was quite disappointed in the quality of the prime rib -- not up to the standards of a restaurant that aspires to be a place for special occasions. I will be likely to return to Lon's but will put other places higher on my list of go-to places."

  • "We had visited Lon's about 5 years ago on a trip to the Scottsdale area, so when this trip came up we made a reservation to right away to go again. Sometimes when you have an amazing meal your next visit to the same place doesn't meet your expectations but not at Lon's it met and exceeded our expectations. This visit was even better than the first. We had lovely weather which allowed for dinner outside that was perfect. Food as before was excellent, service excellent, and overall great evening. We hope it isn't that long till we are back in the area but whenever it is we will be sure to dine at Lon's."

  • "This was our first time dining at Lon's. We requested a patio table and arrived just before dusk. It was enchanting. The food was excellent, service attentive without hovering. Our table of 4 ordered the short ribs, duck, grouper and the filet. All very tasty. We look forward to our next visit...."

  • "Dinner at Lon's was top drawer, the food excellent, the setting charming, the wine list extensive with a great selection of local wines. A great place for a quiet dinner with friends or that special person in your life."

  • "At this time of year, dining on the outdoor patio with the fountain, trees, twinkle lights and musical ensemble, is pure magic. We started with the foie gras, which was amazing. The duck breast, salmon, and short ribs were all succulent and beautifully presented. Of course, the bread tray is always welcome with the cornbread, crackers and rolls. Wine list is substantial. Wine sommelier is knowledgeable and helpful. Wait staff is always professional and unobtrusive. Lon's never disappoints! Always a treat to dine here!"

  • "We recently spent several days at the Hermosa Inn and dined at Lon's where the service and food were outstanding! The kitchen displays creativity and quality on a consistent basis, while the wait staff provides a very pleasurable dining experience. Definitely have the Ahi tuna starter, the beef tenderloin and the candy bar dessert!"

  • "I LOVE Lon's, it's one of my favorite restaurants. My mom has never been and I wanted to treat her to lunch. The food was excellent as always, but the service was extremely slow. We searched for our server countless times for water, refills on drinks, and finally the bill. The restaurant looked very short staffed. I'll continue going to Lon's, but I don't know if my mom will go back, nor recommend it to anyone. Her first impression was not the best."

  • "Lon's is one of our favorite restaurants in the Phoenix area. We have been patronizing it for about 6 years. The food and service never disappoints. Unfortunately, the atmosphere on the large front patio is disturbed by the amplified music played at night. There is a small rear patio that offers a quiet alternative, but often is unavailable. The interior of the restaurant is attractive, and a quiet table usually can be had."

  • "The waiter was nice but could have been more helpful in filling our water glasses, The food took too long even though I had salmon salad."

  • "Walking into the patio area was definitely a great first impression. The weather was perfect, the lighting romantic, and the music being played by the live band was wonderful. Once we were seated, the server was prompt to greet us and offer drinks. Although my drink consisted of about 5 sips in a copper mug full of ice (it was non-alcoholic since I'm preggers), it was tasty. The appetizers were very flavorful with great presentation (we ordered the carpoccio and seared ahi tuna). The only complaint I have is the lack of the wow factor with the entree sauces and the recommendation of med-rare for the duck (it was hard to cut through so I would get it med next time). Aside from that, I can't wait to return again!"

  • "This is where you go to have the quiet lunch with a special friend or loved one. The food is always great either on the shady patio or in Lon Megarge's historic ranch house."

  • "We had lunch on the wonderful patio, although the inside is just as attractive, but a bit more formal. Better for dinner. Very large quality wine selection including all price ranges. The foie gras was heavenly as an appetizer . All the lunch entres looked fantastic. We had salmon and was as good as it looked. Very helpful wait staff as well. A highly recommended treat to dine here."

  • "Went with out-of-town son and grandson while staying at nearby resort. They evening setting is marvelous and magical. Food and presentation great, pricey, w but equal to the area for fine dining. Lon's is certainly a destination and historical place."

  • "Tasty food, nice atmosphere. We moved from the bar to a table and waited 15 minutes for our drinks to make it to our table, they forgot about our bread service, and came back twice to confirm what we had ordered. Another table received their main courses before their appetizers. For a premium eatery they need to step up the delivery."

  • "We've been to Lon's many times over the last few years, and every time is wonderful. Recently we celebrated our 1st Wedding Anniversary here, and it was a wonderfully memorable evening. The Staff at Lon's is exceptional and the food is always fantastic. We enjoyed a great bottle of wine and some live music while we dined. Honestly, this is my favorite restaurant in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area. My husband always laughs because this is always my first choice whenever we're planning a special night out! It's hard to be the atmosphere at Lon's. We will be back many times in the future!"

  • "Full house at 7:30 PM on a Saturday. Our party of 4 ate inside. We had ordered a round of drinks and had just put in our food orders when all diners were requested to evacuate the premises, immediately, due to a fire in the kitchen. The GM came around to each table and did this very quietly so as not to create a panic, etc. We were told to just get in our car and leave. Fire hoses, trucks all around. We went back the next day and returned our wine glasses and asked if we could at least pay for our drinks. We were told that the restaurant had taken care of it. First class spot. On a very quite, DARK side street off of Lincoln. Unless you knew where it was you would never find it....yet about 350 people were already there eating ."

  • "Whenever, I'm in Phoenix, I make it a point to dine at Lons' for both dinner and lunch. The restaurant and the patio are beautifully designed for ambiance and a feeling of privacy. The wait staff is attentive and knowledgeable about the food and beverage offerings. Service is slower, but at a decent pace, does not drag, leaving you to soak up the surroundings. The prices are reasonable for what the menu has to offer, which has a mix of lighter, moderate and more substantial fare, including plates to share. Nice selection of beer and wines by the glass. I am usually a single diner and have always felt welcomed and well cared for by all the staff."
