Diner Reviews
  • "This is a Maui tradition. The food is consistently good and is served with a great view(Lahaina). While Longhi's is good, the competition is good or better such as Sansei and Cafe Olei in Kihei, Tommy Bahama in Wailea. There are a number of good restaurants in Lahaina and Kaanapali."

  • "Food overall great to just OK. Lobster Cannelloni was.....just OK. Good salad. Wife's pesto was tremendous [good job on the gluten free pasta - al dente and not mushy!] Great wine list! Waiter was fantastic!!!"

  • "Order the cinnamon bun, also their bloody mary's are fresh and great! The food is ridiculous for breakfast. Ridiculously good! They say they do italian food but we only go for brunch and breakfast."

  • "An extensive menu with a knowledgable staff. They were willing to personalize selections to your preference, both in the way they are coked and the sauces. Great view from the second floor. We dined late in the evening so much of the crowd had cleared out. But if you go earlier the tables are fairly close together so it can get noisy."

  • "We visited this restaurant twice during our stay once for lunch and once for dinner. At lunch we had a pizza and salad and that just hit the spot. Service was good and server friendly, ambiance was good and the noise level was fine. At dinner we had the crab cakes and a pasta dish both were good without being spectacular. Server was attentive and this time we were seated upstairs where we had a nice view of the ocean. All in all a good restaurant that we are likely to visit again when next in Lahaina. Worth a look."

  • "Beautiful view from top of restaurant over looking the ocean. Our server was very friendly and helpful. We did get the impression that the portions were not that big, they are BIG. I had the lobster cannelloni- yummy! They bring you a plate of bread which is more like a pizza, save room for your meal. They have valet parking since there is no place close to park on the street. Great evening."

  • "We have been coming to Maui for years now and have eaten at Longhi's many times over the years. The restaurant in Wailea is much nicer and has a nice ambience. The original location in Lahaina is old an tired. In my opinion, the whole place needs to be remodeled. For dinner, they close down the downstairs for some reason and sit costumers upstairs in a large room that is a combination banquet hall, dance floor, bar and storage area. There is no atmosphere. This combined with the poor service, average food and noise from Front Street, really does not create a memorable experience."

  • "This was our third time dining at this spot and it has never let us down. We will be back and we have introduced and recommended it many times."

  • "We were met at the door by smiling hostess who escorted us to our window table and the view overlooking Lahaina and the ocean. The food was delicious both highly recommended by our friendly and knowledgeable server. We will go again."

  • "We've been to Lahaina approx. 50 times over the last 30 years, and surprisingly, never been to Longhi's. I am so glad we finally did! Dined upstairs (opens at 6 upstairs, much earlier downstairs), loved the view of Front Street and the Pacific Ocean (whales jumping in the water!), the bartender (congrats on losing so much weight!), our server who made us feel as if we were his most important table, and the FOOD. Oh my goodness, the Opakapaka was the best I have ever had....anywhere on the island. Longhi's has kept dinner prices a few dollars less per entree (nice relief!) than some other restaurants who are charging upwards of $50 per entree....ala carte. Loved our dinner, the staff, the view. We'll return. Much aloha."

  • "Overall, this is my first choice/recommendation for dining in Maui/Lahaina. Merriman's and Plantation were possibly more spectacular, but really expensive, and I was particularly irked at the outrageous wine markups at Plantation. The open air second floor deck at Longhi just reeks of New Orleans, and while dining outdoors or near to it, is commonplace on the islands, nothing quite matches this one. The fish was great, the wine was at California prices, and the overall experience just great."

  • "Wow, we went here for our Anniversary celebration and were seated on the first floor, open window to Front street, with a perfect view of MALA Bay. Incredible view. The dinner was excellent, had to ask them to slow it down a little, which the did immediately. The wine list was very good and overall we enjoyed our evening a great deal! You shouldn't miss this restaurant. :-)"

  • "After Friends had given us good reports, we did not have a good experience. The wait person was very pleasant and gave us very good service, but the food had mixed reviews. My wife's dinner was very good, but I should have sent mine back. For such an established restaurant that disappointing."

  • "We were very pleased to enjoy another wonderful sunset dinner at Longhis this week. We've been visiting Maui for over 30 years and during our first 15 years or so, Longhis was a favorite dining spot. Then it seems the quality if the food declined and we stopped adding Longhis to our dining list. We decided to dine again last September to give an old favorite another try. The dinner was better than we anticipated. So, on this visit, we went to Longhis again and we were not disappointed. We will be back and glad that Longhis has risen once again to the top of the dining list."

  • "My family and I have eaten at the Longhi's in Wailea and thought the location in Lahaina would be similar. I am not even sure these restaurants are related after the meal we had while vacationing. While we knew that we were not eating at Mama's Fish House (which is the best restaurant on Maui), we expected a decent meal out in Lahaina, especially considering the location and price (moderately high). We had to wait 15 minutes to be seated even though we had reservations at 7:00 and the restaurant was operating at 20% capacity (should have known better at that point). The waiter (Steve with the handle-bar mustache) was excellent and should be working at a better restaurant in the area. If your expectations are low, this is the spot for you."

  • "The pancakes were huge and topped with macadamia nuts and coconut syrup. The eggs were cooked just right. Not cheap, but worth it. Yummy fresh baked cinnamon rolls hot out of the oven. Fresh squeezed OJ."

  • "An established, moderately proved Italian and seafood second floor restaurant on Front Street, Lahaina, Maui. Friendly and efficient service with delicious though pricey appetizers and good selection of pasta, steak, and seafood. We enjoyed the scallop and shrimp Longhi legacy meal with a lemon butter sauce that was simple and flavorful. Sat adjacent to outdoor view open window with view of Lanai across the channel and Bubba Gump shrimp house across the street. Server was very attentive and friendly, and food had very good flavor. I would return again in the future."

  • "Good restaurant for special occassions... A little pricey as all menu items (sides included), are ala carte n charged ala carte... Good wine list but also on the pricey side... I definitely recommend Longhi's for a special night out with your honey..."

  • "Had a wonderful dinner at Longhi's in the upstairs dining room. Bobby was our server and was very helpful with the menu and gave us great service throughout the evening. The fresh catch was outstanding with 2 large portions cooked to perfection with a macadamia nut crust and a light sauce. My wife had the veal piccata with very tender veal and a great wine sauce. We split a chocolate mousse raspberry cake. It was light and delicious. Will definitely go back again when we visit Maui."

  • "Went here because choices are slim for Christmas on Maui. After waiting 30 minutes past our reservation time they didn't even check us into open table. Food is not great, service did it's best but was overtaxed by the volume of people. Really no resin to go here if you have other options."

  • "Had the endive salad. The endive didn't seem that fresh. Crab cakes were a good size with a pile of fried onions on top that took away somewhat from the crab cake. Had pasta for our mains. View from upstairs seating a area was very nice."

  • "Great fish/home style pasta/unremarkable vegetable sides & fun upstairs w great views/downstairs w exhaust belching city busses right next to your table. Combo of Italian pasta dishes & fresh fish made ordering a challenge. Waiter didn't assist w pairing pasta w fresh fish selection & we picked wrong (overly spicy red sauce with a great snapper prepared longhi style - highly recommended). Go for excellent fresh fish, get a neutral pasta side, sit upstairs for sure."

  • "We heard the food was great here but it was mixed for us. The appetizers were good but the Longhi's style shrimp/scallops dish (their signature item), was soaking in butter. I must have eaten 2 sticks of butter during this meal. I wouldn't order anything there that states "butter" in the description and you will probably be fine. My kids had pasta with parm cheese for $20! Ridiculous for kids meals even by Maui standards."

  • "Having dined many times at Longhi's in Wailea and loved it (great service, food and ambiance), we thought we would give it's sister restaurant in Lahaina a try. Despite making a reservation months ahead of time, we arrived to find we had to wait for our table which was in the furthest, darkest corner of the restaurant. No ocean/front street view as promised. Table and chairs were old and looked liked they should have been replaced 5 years ago. Ordered chicken marsala for $26.00 US and got only a chicken breast with sauce. Was told that a starch (potatoes/pasta) needed to ordered as extra, as well veggies were also extra. When I order this exact dish at Wailea, for the same price it comes with mashed potatoes and veggies. ?? Rip off"

  • "Your hostess is rude and incompetent! We assume she is family. Nobody else would put up with her! We have eaten there twice within one week. Food is excellent. Kevin the waiter is wonderful. Had him two years ago. He is so professional!"

  • "We have eaten at longhi's many times. We love the food, service and atmosphere. However, the hostess is the rudest and most incompetent hostess we have ever come across. We go to longhi's DESPITE her. We tell all friends what to expect. We speculate that she is only there because she is family. No other owner would put up with her. She is always rude. Be prepared!"

  • "Food was very disappointing. Tomatoes in all the salads were not ripe. The basil had no flavour and the buffalo mozzarella was not very good. The sauce in the mussels entre looked and tasted like ketchup or a very thick sauce from a can. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant. All 3 of us were disappointed with our meal. The only good point to our reservation was the view."

  • "The Christmas and New Years holidays are very busy here on Maui! Our best friends from Oahu were visiting with us and we were having a difficult time getting reservations at any of the restaurants on the west side the whole week! I decided to check out "Open Table" for New Years Eve and we got an 8:30p reservation, which was a perfect time since we were staying out to celebrate the New Year! We had a great dinner, with great service and we rang in the New Year on their dance floor with a DJ playing music!!"

  • "I have frequented Longhi's since the early 80's and it has long been a sentimental favorite so I chose to celebrate New Year's Eve there. Made reservations for 9:30 and a few days before was informed that it would be a fixed price menu of $85.00. Didn't have a problem with that. When we arrived we were informed that there was no interest in that so they went back to main menu. Didn't have a problem with that. When we were seated and drink orders taken we were informed they were out of their primary meat, all but one seafood, their best app and best salad and two best desserts. With a severely handicapped menu due to poor advance planning by the management we were forced to leave and eat elsewhere. Huge disappointment as we were big fans."

  • "We chose Longhi's because we knew it was a great place for breakfast. Dinner is not their specially. We had calamari for an appetizer, which was good -nothing special. Salads were fine (Greek & Kula). after we had been sitting a while after finishing our salads the waitress came by and asked if we wanted her to put in our diner orders. We were a but surprised that she hadn't already done that! So we waited quite a while for our entrees. The server then tried to blame the kitchen getting "slammed" when the restaurant was les than half full! The London Broil was grisly, pesto was so oily it was hardly edible & the ahi was over cooked. We wi ll never be going back there again."

  • "Draws on the Hawaiian food sources, but mixes in some traditional American fare as well. Very well executed food and service. Atmosphere is "beach" but that fits the location and the menu. On the "must do" list for Maui."

  • "Things have changed at Longhi's. Still a great location. Great for watching the people on Front Street. Service was slow. I had the Salmon dish and my wife had the linguini with clams that she has any tine it appears on a menu at any restaurant because she is ITALIAN!! My salmon was smothered in a strong tomato with chunks sauce. My wife's linguini had no traceable seasoning. Waiter pointed out the salt and pepper on the table. The bread was a pizza like soft, doughy mess with some kind of crud on top. We've eaten at Longhi's many times in the last 15 or so years including Halloween when the place is alive. It will be a while till we return."
