A word from Lolita Restaurant
Lolita is a Modern Mexican Restaurant located in Philadelphia in Midtown Village. Originally opened in 2004 by restaurateurs Chef Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran, it underwent a major renovation in 2014 and reopened with a fresh look, a new Mexican street food-inspired menu and a full liquor license.

The extensive full-scale renovation highlights the addition of a 16-seat bar and chef's counter looking into the open kitchen. Lolita seats 45 guests with additional outdoor sidewalk seating in the warmer months. Reservations are accepted every day for lunch and dinner, while seating at the bar and chef’s counter is on a first come, first served basis. We have a full liquor license and accept all major credit cards.

The food here is always excellent and this time did not fail to meet expectations. The drinks are usually good as well, although I miss the BYOT. The wait staff and kitchen are great. Be sure to make a reservation, the wait can be long without one.

We tried Lolita before a night out at the orchestra and we weren't disappointed. Although the night was damp and chilly, things were warm in Lolita's. We mixed a number of small plates and enjoyed ourselves. The fried calamari negra tostadas was yummy as was a melted cheese special of the day. We shared shrimp tacos, fish tacos, and a red snapper special, enjoying it all! To finish up, the Mexican chocolate ice cream is not to be missed. A bit noisy and people are seated close together, but, hey, on a chilly night it felt good.

I was born in Mexico City and ordered the Mexico City quesadilla with some degree of skepticism. It was outstanding. The side dishes were terrific, and overall we had a very nice meal. The service was friendly and efficient. The only negatives were the space - too cold near the door and too hot by the bar. Noise level on a Saturday evening was high. Notwithstanding, it was an enjoyable experience

Tostaditas de Atún - crunch of cool radish, satiny tuna, crisp malaga chip, sesame, creamy chipotlé mayo and avacado - great combo of texture & flavor! Fish tacos - don't let Craig LeBan's review dissuade you - pickled onions up them from the ordinary. Tacos al Pastor from the trompo were also good. Duck tamal was a little disappointing - too much heavy masa but I had an etherial light one years ago that I've yet to find an equal to. Noise - everything you read. We'll go back but aim for a late, late lunch to hopefully find it quieter . . . maybe. It's a hit!

The food was uniformly excellent, flavorful and different but not needlessly exotic. Drinks were fine but I don't think you are missing anything amazing if you go for beer or wine. Staff was very pleasant and appropriately attentive. One particularly nice thing is that there is a bit more space between tables than at some of the neighboring restaurants.

We went on one of the days of the Day of the Dead tasting menu, which was five-course for $45. The portions were a good size and I feel like they really gave a lot of food for the money. We were here on a first date, so although the ambiance and lighting was good it was a little too loud at times to hear each other. They were very accommodating and sat us in a part of the restaurant that was a little more secluded, which definitely helped, but it was still a bit loud for our liking. Regardless of that, Lolita was a great restaurant and I will definitely be back again/recommend to a friend.

Lolita came highly recommended by both of my top resources for restaurant recs in Philly and did not disappoint. The front "nook" tables for two were fantastic for the occasion as the restaurant was lively but this particular table enabled us to still converse without elevating our voices. Our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The food is unreal, and awesomely priced for how delicious it is. The drinks are also good, that is where you can drop some dollars in a hurry. That is to be expected at a good old city restaurant however, and was not surprising. Food: The short rib chilaquiles are a must have; mexican street corn and pork tacos were fantastic Drinks: Tequila Flight, bethany, blood orange, paloma, tamarind A+

I had originally wanted to dine at the place across the street, but I'm so glad I chose Lolita instead. Lolita is smaller and more intimate, and the food was delicious. The margaritas were the best I've had outside of Mexico (this means that they are NOT sweet; margaritas are not supposed to be sweet, and Lolita makes them the way they're supposed to be). Highly recommend this place.

Had a delicious meal at Lolita. Kind of like the local taco joint taken to the next level and a good one. Taco platter at just $11 was very authentic. Pork and Carne much better than anything you will have at a taco house. Chips and dips great. Main disappointment was the margarita. Served in a mason jar (i did not think to ask for it otherwise), it tasted like lemon/lime ade. Looking forward to the next time when I will order it straight up. Will definitely go back for the food.

Highlights: tuna tosadas, cocktails, chips and salsa, chicken nachos Downside: service delays and manager of the night I've been fortunate enough to frequent all of Val and Marcie's restaurants and typically the service and attention to detail is excellent. I can still remember when Lolita first opened and how great it was. However, this recent experience was not. Seated ~15 minutes late; an appetizer came out with the main course (45 minutes) with a quick dismissal by the attending manager. The server had too many tables to take care of. If I compare experiences with El Vez across the street, it comes up short this time.

We had been to Lolita prior to their big renovation and had been impressed. Unfortunately, they seem to have come out of the renovation as a rather mediocre restaurant. The menu seemed rather limited, focused almost solely on the tacos. We ordered 3 different kinds and only one of them was even mildly impressive, the special pork. The food was by no means bad. We ate everything without hesitation. But there was nothing special or exciting. I was not too happy when we ordered a pitcher of margaritas which was four times the cost of a single margarita, but resulted in 4 half glasses worth of drinks.

Lolita's is awesome! Food is GREAT! I love the fish tacos and the salad! However at lunchtime the waitress didn't come to our table right away so we had to reach out to her to let her know we were on a brief time schedule. Other than that a great time away from office.

The food and drinks at Lolita were fantastic! Unfortunately, our service was not so. Our server was friendly, but seemed busy and disinterested. Lolita's was closed for nearly a year, and I literally counted down until they reopened. Lolita's had been my favorite dining spot in Philadelphia. Since the reopening the menu is missing some of my favorite things. Everything my table ordered looked beautiful...but boy was it salty! TOO MUCH SALT, is all I could think about. One the upside, the drinks are great! I'll give Lolita another try.

Food was great but the margaritas left something to be desired which is unfortunate for a Mexican restaurant. Margaritas were tasty but lacked the classic tequila punch that purists love. Would go back for the food in a heartbeat but would likely just go across the street to El Vez instead due to quality of margaritas. The rest of my party enjoyed the non-margarita drinks vey much.

We are making plans to go again already because we can't stop thinking about how good it was. Each dish had layers of flavor to it and the presentation of the food added to its appeal. My recent visit to Lolita was prompted by the Restaurant Week promotion. I feel management not only embraced the Restaurant Week purpose, but delivered more than expected. Everything from the "gratis" pre-first course tastes, to the quality and portions of the first, second and third courses, our meals were created to deliver the most interesting, delicious sensory experiences rather than providing the restaurant with adequate profit margins. I loved everything I tasted. More important, I can't wait to return to Lolita to try more of their food! A great experience!
