A word from Lolita Restaurant
Lolita is a Modern Mexican Restaurant located in Philadelphia in Midtown Village. Originally opened in 2004 by restaurateurs Chef Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran, it underwent a major renovation in 2014 and reopened with a fresh look, a new Mexican street food-inspired menu and a full liquor license.

The extensive full-scale renovation highlights the addition of a 16-seat bar and chef's counter looking into the open kitchen. Lolita seats 45 guests with additional outdoor sidewalk seating in the warmer months. Reservations are accepted every day for lunch and dinner, while seating at the bar and chef’s counter is on a first come, first served basis. We have a full liquor license and accept all major credit cards.

  • "Had a great time celebrating a friend's birthday. The tacos, entrees, corn, and drinks were awesome. Def going back!"

  • "The food & service were fantastic but, the noise leave was out of control! It's a very small restaurant & the tables are practically packed on top of one another; I could barely carry a conversation with the person across the table from me. I would definitely go again; next time maybe a week night though."

  • "That is what Lolita feels like, in terms of ambiance…same room as Barbuzzo: Loud, tight seating and very dim light. We ended up choosing to sit at the bar because it,felt more spacious than table seating. Hit and miss with food. Loved the grilled octopus and tacos are well done. Watermelon salad was uninspiring, even though so seasonal, and not a lot of vegetable choices, but the chopped salad was good and big enough to share. My dining partner got some enchilada thing that was huge, but looked gloppy. Hard to see with such low light. I miss the intimacy and BYOT of old Lolita."

  • "This was the first time my fiancé and I had been back since they re-opened and we couldn't be happier. This is one of our favorite places to eat in Philly and it's still just as good. We had a table outside on a beautiful night (my fiancé's birthday) and the food was great as was our server. Can't wait to go back again!"

  • "Everything was amazing, but particularly the fried squash blossoms. And it was lovely that the menu was labeled in terms of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free. What a great restaurant!"

  • "Loved the tuna tostadas and korean tacos! Mahi tacos were just ok though."

  • "Lots of buzz, but don't know that it is worthy. Purportedly Mexican street food, but my local place has better food. Had short rib loaded nachos, but more shaved radishes and soggy chips than anything else. Stuffed squash blossoms were tasty, but seasonally limited. Renowned house margarita was akin to lemonade. Tamale with duck fat was quite tasty."

  • "Place was a bit disappointing especially given their other restaurants on the street which we really liked. Was really hoping for better. Food was good but nothing extraordinary and fell short of expectations. Food came out so quickly. Service was less than optimal. Sat down and told server of food allergy to have him come back five minutes later and ask if anyone had any food allergies. Didn't instill a lot of confidence. When will restaurants stop saying that food will come out of the kitchen as prepared? Plates kept coming before we were even done with the last. Not sure we will rush back."

  • "Food is good. Drinks are great but i miss the BYO days because it made this place very reasonible. Post BYO era has some sticker shock but not enough to drive me away."

  • "Only complaint: The family style plates were a little too big for the tables. The food was great! Very flavorful. Good portion sizes and value for the cost. The Korean BBQ tacos were the stellar standout. Best tres leches cake I've ever had. I can't wait to go back. Check it out!"

  • "Had a wonderful time with friends enjoying the DIY Taco Night special. $35 per person included a 3-course meal with chips/salsas and salad for course 1 - choice of taco for course 2 & a wonderful tres leches cake for dessert. Great drinks, great food, good service & wonderful location in the heart of the I Heart 13th street restaurant row. Highly recommend."

  • "From start to finish, my boyfriend and I were so impressed with the entire experience on our date night. Our servicer was courteous, attentive, and really went above and beyond to answer our questions and describe the dishes to us. The food was flavorful and outstanding and the prices are very reasonable! We had a blast and will definitely be back in the future!!"

  • "The pre-renovation Carne Asada was my husband's favorite dish in town and the reason we came to Lolita. The new Carne Asada might be the same recipe, but it just wasn't quite as good! It was extremely salty. There wasn't as much sauce. The plantain chip was stale. And the yucca was just OK. One of the steaks was very small. It used to be a sublime dish, and now it's just pretty good. We're hoping it was an off night (July 4th, Thursday) because we do love Lolita."

  • "We were very pleased with the variety on the menu. We do not eat meat or shellfish, but there was plenty of courses to choose from. The mixture of flavors on each plate were very interesting and delicious. Next time, hopefully we can have drinks and maybe a dessert. Will definitely return."

  • "I enjoyed the food. Very different vibe from El Vez just down the street and the other Mexican Restraunts in the city. Very small place, very cute. I am always eating late and loved that they were open late. The servers were slow...and the place was almost empty. I don't know where they were hiding. They were very professional when we they were around. It was a Tuesday night. The portions are small, but that is just fine for me any my friend. We love good food but can't eat a lot of it."

  • "We enjoyed all our meals at Lolita. The food is definitely not you father's American Mexican. Interesting spices and tastes. With small plate option for trying many dishes. Like Mexican spices this is a level up and a solid experience."

  • "Ate at Lolita for the first time on Friday night and will surely be back. Everything we tried was delicious, from the guacamole with homemade tortilla, plantain, and malanga chips to the watermelon and beet salad, grilled octopus, and two kinds of tacos (fried chicken and pork shoulder--both delicious, but the pork was my favorite). Portions aren't huge, and are meant to be shared (think tapas style dining). Drink-wise, I started with the green garden margarita (amazing) and then tried the cucumber jalapeno (also very good). Our server was friendly and extraordinarily helpful. Most of what we ordered was at her recommendation, and she did not lead us astray. Would definitely recommend!"

  • "Lolita is riding on it's wave from Barbuzzo, but do not be fooled. The drinks are so weak, no one at my table could taste any alcohol and at $34 a pitcher, I don't want buy mixer that expensive! Service was slow and tables were crowded although this is a staple of all Marcie and Valerie's restaurants, so I'm not surprised. Food menu was the same old song and dance and did not consist of anything new or noteworthy. Needless to say, I won't be returning and next time I want Mexican, I'll be going to Tequlia's or Xochitl were the food and drinks are authentic."

  • "Went to Lolita with a group of girlfriends. The food was fresh and delicious. Loved the guacamole, chopped salad, and fish tacos. Our only complaint was that they suggested we each get 2-3 plates... We would have been fine each getting 1 plate and maybe sharing the guacamole. We had way too much food and were stuffed (and 2 of the 4 of us are pregnant!). Great food though and will definitely go back again."

  • "I went to Lolita's after it reopened having been a patron of the restaurant when it was a BYOB. It was a place that I wanted to give a great review, but with some what I tried, the concept of the dishes was somehow off and the execution was lacking. It's not that I would not eat there again, it's just I wouldn't choose it over better Mexican inspired restaurant s such as Distrito or even across the street with El Vez. That said, the vib was good and casual."

  • "Dining is an overall experience and although the food is very good at Lolita, having to literally SCREAM at my friends to communicate made it impossible to catch up and have a conversation with our friends. What I will remember is how hard it was to talk, not the interesting plates we shared. I actually lost my voice by the time we left and we were there on a Tuesday night! I am happy with the upgraded menu changes though and hope to return at a time that perhaps is less noisy, if that is even possible, so I can also eat, drink and be merry by talking to my friends."

  • "Good place with an inventive bar and not too pricey of a menu - upscale Mexican flavors. Tuna Tartar was delicious."

  • "While the new menu was fantastic, the noise level was much louder and it was hard to have conversation. The new chairs are very uncomfortable. Even so, the food and service made up for it. It still is one of my favorite restaurants. Loved the Mexican street corn! Best corn I have ever had."

  • "Beautiful presentation but each dish lacked flavor. Disappointing."

  • "From the second I sit down I want to order every single cocktail on the menu! I've been lucky enough to try the Green Garden Margarita, the Beetarita, the Paloma with grapefruit sorbet, the Cucumber Jalapeno Marg, etc and each one is so good I can't even choose! Definitely don't miss these cocktails. Then onto the food, the tuna app is my go to, perfectly light and flavorful for the summer months, the tampopo specials are great too with rotating choices, and I do love the guacamole as well. My most recent favorite has to be the watermelon and beet salad. I actually was not the one that ordered it but was blown away with how special it was. All should go check out Lolita late night too, their sixth pan drink special is so fun, don't miss it."

  • "This has always been a great spot, but the recent revamp made it even better! There are some misses on the drink menu, but also, some gems. The food menu is all gold, though. The tacos are great, and the duck fat tamal is show-stoppingly amazing. You must try it!"

  • "It's hard to tell what was refined when this place reopened. Another gutless menu of small portions, dull flavors and high prices. How these two get credit for turning around Sansom is beyond me."

  • "I used to go to Lolita a lot before they renovated and obtained a liquor license. The new Mexican "street food" style menu is great. Tacos are amazing, and many great appetizers that are nothing like street food-much more upscale and very very tasty. I recommend the classic margarita. Ask for it straight up (I think it's much better that way)."
    Dined on 5/30/2014
  • "Newly renovated, new liquor license, new menu....all pluses! Wine list was a bit sparse but the cab I had was good. "

  • "LOLITA! That's who's back! And boy am I glad - and what makes it better? They have a liquor license, and boy or boy are they using that slendidly! Get the cucumber margarita...maybe 2...or 3. You won't regret it! "

  • "We had a great server (Erin, I believe). It's a city restaurant, so crowded tables, so not the place for intimate conversations. Definitely a place for a fun dinner. We were originally seated at a table near a door, but I asked to be moved as I didn't want people in and out of the door directly behind me. They complied immediately. The food is outstanding. Party of four and everything we ordered was fantastic. The guacamole is outstanding, not that vampire-killing garlic type. It is definitely a place that will be high on our list for a return visit. "

  • "My husband and I visited Lolita for dinner after the reopening and new liquor license. We had remembered the food being good when we had gone a year or so ago, but this time our dinner exceeded our expectations. We ordered a few small plates to share and each one was just as delicious as the last. Also loved the blood orange margaritas! To top it off, we had excellent service. Overall it was a wonderful experience. We will be going back again very soon!"

  • "the inside of the remodeled lolita doesn't feel that much different than the old. it seems smaller actually, with fewer tables due to the new bar which remained mostly empty the whole saturday evening we dined. the experience of dining at lolita has become much more expensive with their new liquor license and them trying to push the tapas concept. it's a shame really. food is still delicious. a nice new addition is the fact you can now charge your expensive meal. "

  • "I fail to see what the point of renovating is if the restaurant is going to look exactly the same and the food is going to be inferior. Our meal was lacking in taste, texture, and visual interest. It came so quickly it could only have been premade and heated for service. Indeed, service was rushed all around with the waitress constantly asking, "How is everything?" The drinks were watered down, yet oddly sour and unappealing. The meal was downright gross. There are better Mexican options in Center City."

  • "So this is the hardest review I've written. I LOVED the old Lolita since it opened, and we had gone regularly. This way my go to place, I even had my bachelorette party there. We tried the new Lolita, and we were so disappointed. The food is just not the same and pricey for what you get. We paid 70 for 2 drinks, guac, and 2 small plates and still felt hungry. While $70 before the renovation would provided us with an amazing meal and leftovers. Unfortunately, unless something changes, we will not be coming back. It used to be such a great place. "

  • "The "bring your own tequilla" feature that made Lolita unique is a thing of the past. The new Lolita is very expensive and the drinks in particular are very expensive. The food was fine and the drinks were good, too, but that is true of countless restaurants in the city."
