the waiters aim to please.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMLola's New MenuWent a little late (8:30p res.) on Sat. before Mother's Day - seemed pretty quiet and waiter advised of a new chef but with continuation of some popular menu items. Short ribs were continued and 2 in our party of 8 had them and raved! Most others had fish (1 veg. meal appetizers) and every plate was devoured (side of sweet potato fries is worth cheating on your diet).
Service was very attentive - while we were all satisfied we found it unusual that dessert was not even offered. May have been because it was getting a little late (10:30?) but would have liked to see what they had as the items presented at other tables looked good.
Remains on the list of places we will return for dinner as everything was fresh and well prepared.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMNew Chef, still wonderfulWe were a little anxious, as Chef Michael has moved on. But, the crabcakes are still wonderful. The new chef has added a summer twist to the Salmon and Branzino which have been our long-time favorites. He did well. Courteous and kind personnel from the front door to the wait staff. Notable entrees such as Coca-Cola BBQ Ribs and Veal Oscar were prepared with love that showed. Wow! What a Treat! The food at Lola's rivals what you would find in any trendy big-city restaurant. I always eat at Lola's when in the area for business. In fact, it's the kind of place you can go solo and not feel "odd." On my last visit I sampled the salmon over wheatberries. Wow! tastey, ample, and with a lovely presentation. I also love the caramelized brussel sprouts. In fact, everything I've had at Lola's has been delicious. Just go if you're in HollywoodFirst impression - clean modern style, tables amply spaced, attentive staff. The menu - manageable and imaginable. Excellent local craft beer list. The food - well, it's hard for a guy to pass up the ribs, 2 of our 4-guy business party had those, the others the skirt steak and gnocchi respectively. Raves all around. Surprising side - creamed corn - was excellent. Great salmon and awesome wheatberry salad, gnocchi with mushrooms and flatiron steak. Service impeccable with just the right amount of friendliness. The food was exceptional and healthy. Six adults and four kids. The place was simple not big but inviting. The service was fantastic. Overall it was a wonderful experience. Have dinner then walk around and enjoy the area. Did not have high expectations based on our last experience someplace else based on reviews. Boy were we surprised. This place is AMAZING. Love the quaint atmosphere, and the service is spot on. I had the veal chop which was tender and cooked perfect. My wife had the branzino which was full of flavor and perfectly prepared. Great wine selection, really interesting martinis, and you must try the bar bites menu. There's a great little happy hour too.
