The service was great. The family style dishes were an excellent conversation piece for my date. However, we were sat across from the wait staff's supply counter, so there was a lot of traffic by the staff right next to us, which was distracting and also not a very pleasant seating view. There was no barrier to the area and multiple staff were there at the same time. I had requested romantic and quiet seating online so was displeased to have been sat directly across from the wait staff supply area.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMany have heard rave reviewsMany have heard rave reviews about Lola's donuts, and although they live upto the hype, I'm writing this review based on their AMAZING eggs benedict. I've never been a huge lover of bennies, but this dish changed my mind. Lola's benny is that on which I will judge all future bennies, and I fear most will fall short. And the jalepeno-infused Bloody Marys are nothing I'll soon forget either. As for service, we arrived early for our reservation, and Lola patrons are treated to the lobby of the adjoining hotel to await seating - much more comfortable than any other wait I've had at a restaurant!! Had been dying to try Lola, one of the few Tom Douglas restaurants that I did not already count among my faves... did not disappoint. Seattle Restaurant Week was the perfect opportunity to try it out - had the salmon and it was cooked perfectly! Crispy skin, medium rare but not mushy. It was outstanding. The service was outstanding -- our server was always there when we needed him and never when we didn't. The food was similarly excellent. On our server's recommendation I had the Tom's Big Breakfast -- poached egg, peppers and veggies, octopus and garlic yogurt. The flavors blended together well and the octopus was very tender, not rubbery at all. I was skeptical but it won me over. Never (EVER) had a bad meal there and this was no exception. Started with the octopus appetizer (changes every season) and it was great. My bride had the beet salad (it was huge) and loved it. We split an entree (greek sausage with orzo--plenty for two) and it was superb. Added an order of smashed potatoes and we were all set. Service by Kevin was outstanding as it always is at Lola. We had a couple of spreads--delicious as usual, a nicely prepared black cod, a side of brussel sprouts and the classic Greek Spaghetti. All tasty dishes. The wine list here needs to be updated. They do some pours by the glass --unexciting stuff --but given the flavorful nature of the food, the wine offerings disappoint. Our black cod was delicious but served a bit cold. It's a delicate fish but you need to get the serving temperature right. Breakfast, lunch or dinner it is still my favorite restaurant in the world. And Tom's Big Breakfast is still my favorite breakfast. Always has octopus and usually bacon. And then what ever is seasonal and interesting. It seems to change every quarter. Never had a combination that I didn't love. This time it had butternut squash, onions, cabbage, bacon with a greek yogurt w/harissa underneath and a sunny side egg on top. Delicious. My lovely bride had the mushroom scramble and loved it.
