Diner Reviews
  • "Great, interesting regional French food served by a young, well-defined staff. Very pleasant evening in an old, nicely renovated statehouse hidden among university buildings. Food was well-prepared, nicely portioned, and with good sides. Couldn't ask for better on a cold, rainy evening."

  • "Some very unique and outstanding menu selections. Our experience matched the restaurant's outstanding reputation."

  • "It's a great location, nice looking restaurant with good ambience. But the food just isn't that good. The menu is limited, rarely changes and over-priced. The last time we went, our out-of-town friend couldn't eat his rib-eye because, as he said. it was just a bad piece of meat. This time we got the scallops and the pork chop. The pork chop was good, but nothing I would go back for. The scallops were bland. We wanted an appetizer to share while we sipped on our over-priced wine, but the only option was the fried pig ears and we just weren't in the mood for that. We had to book over a week in advance. With all the great restaurants in Cleveland, you are better off going somewhere else. As always, should have gone to Dante's..."

  • "We had booked a reservation for lunch on a Friday. I received 2 reminder emails and a phone call. We had planned that our event for that day was lunch assuming that lunch would be 1-1.5 hours. we sat done at 1 pm and left 45 minutes later. The food was okay. The beef cheek perogies were delicious but the chicken paiilard was incredibly salty. seasonal soup and the grilled cheese sandwich were a hit. The ambience was nice and service friendly but too fast. there was no break in between courses and the food came out immediately."

  • "Lola definitely delivers a deliciously artful culinary experience with a sophisticated (but not stuffy) ambience. And E 4th Street in Cleveland was a delightful discovery. On the night we were there, unfortunately, the disjointed service created a less than pitch perfect evening. I was rather surprised by that. We had a table of seven, which is not a huge group, but it seemed to create timing difficulty for our server. We experienced long waits between starters and entrees, and also between end-of-entree and a request to order dessert."

  • "Was surprised that the menu was relatively simple. They had a few appetizers/salad options and between 10-12 entrée options. I suspect that they chance the menu regularly so a condensed menu probably works well. Had a bottle of reasonably priced red and the Ribeye and my date seemed to enjoy the experience also. They were busy for a Wednesday. Had a drink at Society (across the street) prior to the reservation, and enjoyed that also."

  • "I took my parents here for my father's birthday and it could not have been a better experience. The food was phenomenal, the service was was great, and best of all, my dad loved it!"

  • "What can I say, you go to this place for the menu and it did not disappoint. We had the beet salad, the pigs ears.....oh my gosh those were good. We had the duck and the pork chop for dinner, would order the pork chop every time I went back. The 6am dessert might be the best combination dessert I have EVER had. I was a meat and potatoes kinda guy but I would not hesitate to got back."

  • "The service was impeccable but I thought the meal as a whole was not flawless. The beef cheek pierogi was rich and executed well but my tuna crudo app was bland. The entrees were stellar. Calf heart and Duck.but they really missed the mark on desserts. We ordered the S'more and Carrot cake both served in a beautiful deconstructed format that tasted flat."

  • "My birthday had to be special and I picked Lola. Vibrant and fashionable, I heard excellent reviews about it. In fact, it was an awesome experience! Excellent menu, from appetizers to main course, drinks and everything in between."

  • "Fun! Go and be sure to have the Lola fries (cooked in duck fat) and go out on a limb to try the bone marrow. It comes with lemon, sea salt, bacon jam, picked shallots, fresh parsley, and bleu cheese & garlic "sauce." The marrow is out if the bun, breaded lightly and then deep fried. Every bite can be put together uniquely. Drink list comes on an iPad. It has a wide range of choices in every price range. The pasta and duck dishes as well as the beet salad are also quite noteworthy. Parking can be difficult. Try to turn on to 4th St from Prospect and take an immediate left into valet parking. It is $8 with a validated ticket. We were too full for dessert, and our waitress brought us each a chocolate truffle. Just the right touch! Go!"

  • "The food was amazing, a very unique dining experience that made our 20th wedding anniversary very special. Our server was charismatic and really made us feel comfortable and special. I especially liked that she told us her favorite items"

  • "It was a very nice lunch. The turkey sandwich was not the most impressive, however the schnitzel and the brisket sandwich and spicy tomato soup with blue cheese were very good."

  • "Great service. I was impressed upon entry you picked up on who we were and personally found us at the bar to alert our table was ready. Our table waitress was awesome and paired our wine perfectly to the chosen meals. The extra touch of cupcakes and candles for our anniversary was very nice. Thank you the great experience."

  • "My wife and I loved the atmosphere. The bar, where we had a drink while waiting for our table, was "cool". The bartender was excellent and attentive. We were seated right on time despite the place being quite busy. Lola is lively and not quiet but the food was excellent and so was the service! I had some of the recommended beer- thoroughly enjoyed it and we also really enjoyed our red wine - which wasn't crazy expensive. They do have a large selection of wines and some are very expensive..... We will definitely go back"

  • "We came to Cleveland for a long weekend, specifically to dine at Lola and B Spot. The staff was attentive and accommodating, even to the one diner in our party with an extremely limited palate. We all had different entrees; hangar steak, Hampshire pork chop, lamb loin, and my choice, scallops. Everything was prepared with care, and beautifully presented. We were delighted with the flavors and quality of the ingredients. There is no doubt that the scallops were the best I had eaten. The Lola fries, and the potatoes and caramelized onions, were terrific. Desserts were equally delightful. The memories of our Lola evening will remain, and bring us back to Cleveland again. Thanks, Chef Symon and staff--the experience was a Lola-palooza!"

  • "We had a group and everyone enjoyed their evening. Our waiter did a great job. The food was wonderful. The ambiance made for a great night out with our group"

  • "The place was nearly empty, but that didn't stop our server from disappearing for 20 min at a time after we told him we were in a rush. Took us two hours from start to finish, could have easily been 45 min (like everyone else sitting around us). Very disappointing."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "Food and drinks excellent, especially the Old Fashioned - variation with bing cherry v maraschino, not too sweet. Halibut perfectly prepared, Sturgeon delicious. Have to get the fries. Skipped dessert but they looked decadent."

  • "While the food and cache of an iron chef may be the initial draw, the front of the house must almost be up to the challenge. In this regard Lola did not disappoint. Well run, well managed, friendly accomodating staff from the moment we walked in the door. Accomodated the change to our reservation, plied us with some amazing food and drink. All seven diners had a wondeful experience. Dining staff descended en masse with entrees in hand to assure all were served simultaneously. Both meat and fish dishes cooked properly and tasted wonderfully. Scallops were amazing. Two in our group thought their entrees were over salted. A reason to go to Cleveland."

  • "It was good. Very dark, we had scheduled a business meeting with a consultant, and we needed to take notes, a little difficult in the dark. The waitress pointed out the tip had been included in the bill, she was nice, and the food came out at a nice pace. For the price Lola has a fairly limited lunch menu. One of my colleagues ordered the grilled chees and tomato bisque. Bisque was excellent, she took one bite of the grilled cheese and said it was "inedible" but said nothing. It has goat cheese on it (apparently) and that did not sit with her all that well, especially if you were expecting something more traditional."

  • "Our second visit to this gem of a restaurant. We traveled out of our way to dine here after having a fabulous meal two years ago. The place was super busy even on a Monday night at 8:00. Fun atmosphere and interesting to watch the hustle in the open kitchen. Next time we would like to sit at the kitchen high top bar table to really see how this well oiled machine works. The smoked pork chop is our favorite and we had it once again. Don't know if I've ever had pork taste so good! Great drinks, wine and desserts too. We will visit again when in Cleveland. Thanks for a wonderful evening."

  • "The food was good but I was hoping for more from my first experience with an iron chef's menu. Perhaps it was my own elevated anticipation that made it somewhat disappointing. Everything was cooked to perfection, but the flavors themselves fell somewhat flat. There was no genius complexity or anything particularly provocative about the meal. Not to say I wouldn't go back. There's a lot more menu to cover but I'd be much more guarded about my expectations during my next visit."

  • "As usual when you have a party of more than 5 or 6 you get poor service and pay a large tip. The server was running around making sure the small tables were well taken care while we waited for everything."

  • "My daughters and I had a good time! It's a lil expensive but worth it. I highly recommend to anyone who wants to have a good time."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "Only complaint--the tables in the back of the restaurant are too close together and we could hear our neighbors' conversations as if they were sitting with us! This situation is not ideal for a romantic occasion at all!! You might as well share one table together with strangers!"

  • "A very good restaurant, above average for sure. After hearing from so many people how amazing this restaurant is, went there for myself on a Friday night. Wasn't overly impressed with the food, however. Despite having reservations, was asked to wait over 30 minutes for table. Seated at nice table next to window; many empty tables around. Food was memorable, but doesn't live up to hype of previous reviews. My dish (the duck) was cooked well, but nothing I would go back for. Have had equally good foot at other restaurants for less $$$. Would go back to this restaurant to meet up with friends, but wouldn't go just for the food, sadly. To experience Michael Symon restaurant, I actually prefer Lolita, not too far away."

  • "Finally I was able to try Lola. I was excited and anticipating greatness. I received a flavorless crudo, a sour tasting cucumber cocktail, and mushy, over cooked pasta. I couldn't even eat very much of it. Sad to say I would not recommend Lola and will not be back."

  • "My wife and I have been married for five years. She has been asking me to take her to Lola's for some time. Finally I obliged. the ambiance was great, the drink menu was vast, and the food was amazing. I was a little worried I would still be hungry afterwards, because the portion sizes seemed a little small. However, I was comfortably full for the remainder of the night. I also cannot stop raving how good the food was that night. I think we will be coming back here really soon."

  • "Michael Symon's menu is eclectic but also delicious. His specialties are a must try. However, please take more time training your wait staff. We had a very nice young man attend to us...but our wine was delivered late, after our entrees, and he forgot what was we ordered. Therefore another waiter had to step in and make right."

  • "For the price, I am very disappointed for the variety of taste with my food. The Porkchops my significant other ordered was dry as cardboard. I sent it back and received a replaced plate that was less lean, which did make it less dry, but was still dry. This either tells me that the ingredients and selections were poor, or the preperation was poor. The beef cheeks were nothing that I can boast to my friends about. I ordered a lamb chop, which was pretty good, but not good enough that it should cost $35+. The sauces used to accompany the food had no variations; The Foie Gras appetizer: strawberry jam with nuts and paprika, Lamb chop Entree: Lambchop with red jam sauce, Pork chops with jam sauce... Everything was jam sauced; No diversity."
