A word from Logan - An American Restaurant
LOGAN- An American Restaurant opened in November 2004, with a commitment to providing Ann Arbor a unique and truly sensational dining experience. We are a small, independently owned and operated business. As such, we feel we can be attentive to the small details that separate great restaurants from the rest. For example, Chef-Owner Thad Gillies and his staff prepare from scratch each day the culinary components that are the base of everything we do. When they combine these elements for your dining pleasure, they transcend the French cooking techniques used to create them, in fact, they also transcend the many culinary traditions our kitchen draws from to create our “New American Cuisine”. Great food alone does not make a great dining experience, though; we feel that great wine, beer, and spirits are an essential part of that experience, as well.   • "I knew we were in for something special when we received an amuse bouche - a rarity these days, even at the best restaurants. Logan was a delightful experience from start to finish. The ambience and service was refined, yet not pretentious. The Logan salad was simple yet well-balanced. I stepped a little outside the box and ordered the short rib, a chef specialty. It was tender, flavorful, and beautifully presented. My husband had the tempura perch, which he also enjoyed. The little biscuits they served with butter were even good! We followed up our meal with creme brulee and bread pudding for dessert, along with a super tasty pot of tangerine tea. I really appreciated the perfect portion sizes, the artistry, and attention to each detail."

From the carefully blended coctails, through the impressive wines, to the beautifully presented food, the owner(s) clearly consider everything consumed in this cozy venue. We love Logan's spin on the Mojito - the Lojito. Mint is out of season so I tried a Porch Swing, and was impressed by it's subtle balance of flavors. (I'll be back in Summer for the Lojto though!). My wife deceived herself that she'd try a new dish, but again happily fell prey to Curried Scallops. That followed a trio of cheese au d'oeuvres which melted on the tongue. The Mahi Mahi which was delicate and delicious. Each time I try something different I am impressed by the balance of flavors. Logan is not cheap, but it IS worth it."

  • "One feels welcomed as soon as one walks through the door. The drink and wine list is excellent, and the sommelier extremely knowledgable and helpful in pairing food/wine. The menu is enticing and all our choices (group of four) were excellent. I began with the crab fritters which were delicate, fresh, and garnished with a delicious sauce. The shrimp was spectacular! We all got different desserts, which were also excellent. I would get the cookies and milk to share, if I were to get that again; there were two each of four different freshly baked cookies. Service was outstanding, with our waiter attentive and completely willing to make changes to the menu that were requested. Definitely worth many repeat visits!"

Their menu really has some terrific flavors. I am quite adventurous with my palate but my mother is not. She is quite basic in what she likes, and is not a fan of anything that is too intense in flavor or ingredients, and she was able to find something that suited her quite well, as was I. This place is also very consistent, I have been here several times and every time the food, service, and wine were outstanding. If there was one thing I could say negative about Logan, it is their building ambience is lacking and not a good representation of what their restaurant is capable of."

Being from the NY area, we didn't expect much. We figured on dinner being merely a means to an end...just to sate our hunger. Wow, were we ever surprised! From the minute we were greeted to the time we left, we were in for the treat of our lives. Our water glasses were always full. The sommelier's passion and excitement in pairing each of our courses individually with the perfect wines was contagious. The food was superb. We will always dine at Logan every time that we come to Ann Arbor. It is not be missed."

  • "My wife and I really enjoyed our first dining experience at Logan. From our very knowlegible waitperson to the food quality and presentation of each dish, overall an excellent meal. Each entrie had its own unique and pleasant flavor, but not overpowering. One caviat though which is not meant to detract from my overall rating, don't go there hungry as the portions are not large. Just right I suppose for a small eater, but for the hungry man or woman, I would recommend adding a pasta entrie or appetizer before the main dish to get at least a little more satiated."

Timing of courses and parings were light and delicious. Wine recommendations were also superb. And the service: First class! The young lady was friendly, very helpful, and on the spot with service. Thankfully I remembered to make advanced reservations, as Logan's is always booked at least a week out. For restaurant week, it's longer. So make your res as soon as you can. Highly recommend Thai Scallops, Gnocchi, Pork medallions"
