A word from Logan - An American Restaurant
LOGAN- An American Restaurant opened in November 2004, with a commitment to providing Ann Arbor a unique and truly sensational dining experience. We are a small, independently owned and operated business. As such, we feel we can be attentive to the small details that separate great restaurants from the rest. For example, Chef-Owner Thad Gillies and his staff prepare from scratch each day the culinary components that are the base of everything we do. When they combine these elements for your dining pleasure, they transcend the French cooking techniques used to create them, in fact, they also transcend the many culinary traditions our kitchen draws from to create our “New American Cuisine”. Great food alone does not make a great dining experience, though; we feel that great wine, beer, and spirits are an essential part of that experience, as well. We are seek to offer you the very best of all of these we can obtain, always with a focus on excellent value.Continued

  • "We had a chance to go back to Logan for a small celebration. The food was great as expected. The short ribs and cheese grits were out of this world. Kevin, the sommelier, once again demonstrated his skill by bringing us a wine that went well with entrees including scallops and short ribs. Logan gets my vote as the best restaurant in Ann Arbor, and it is one of my favorites anywhere in the country"

  • "First visit. Split pot stickers. A little crispy but very tasty. Nice sauce. I had the duck confit. Very tender and delicious. Loved the presentation and accompaniments. Hubby had the Thai scallops, house specialty. As everyone has said, they are beautiful and delicious with great sauce and best mashed potatoes we've ever tasted. We enjoyed meal and will return."

  • "This past weekend I took my family to dinner at Logan. We had two outstanding appetizers followed by 4 outstanding meals. I found the menu to be quite interesting with many options to select from. What was so notable about the meal was the manner in which all the flavors in my meal complimented one another. The entrées were well thought out. I was also extremely impressed by the wine selections. Although we did not get a bottle on that particular occasion, our daughter had a mixed drink that she really liked while my wife had a glass of pinot noir that was quite good. We then shared two desserts that were both quite delectable. An excellent first experience at Logan. We will return."

Our server seemed less upbeat, the temperature was too warm and the meal, while very good, just couldn't overcome the rest of the experience. I chalk it up to the pace of restaurant week and won't let it affect plans to return to this terrific restaurant."

  • "Logan provides a great dining experience for either a special occasion or anytime you want a great meal with great wine. The service is always spot-on; the food will never disappoint and this restaurant takes their wine list very serious. Went here for Ann Arbor restaurant week and included the wine flight with the meal. The wine flight was an amazing deal; 3 full glasses of perfectly matched vinos for only $18. The food was also great. Had the crab/avocado starter with the Cesar salad and Moroccan hen. Will say that, though I was able to eat to my fill and take some food home, my eating partner was a little hungry by the end of the meal. But he filled up on the biscuits and butter and was happy by the end as well."

  • "We had a late dinner for two on a Saturday evening for a special occasion. We were in for a leisurely dinner, and we were afforded that opportunity. We started with an excellent Malbec. Silky smooth. We forewent the salad and had a pasta/asparagus number which was flavorful but the pasta was just a bit chewy for me. My mahi mahi was quite good, and my date enjoyed her thai scallops. The whole experience was very good, if a bit overpriced."

  • "Our meal at Logan was one of the best of my life! We had the tasting menu. Not only was every one of the dishes spectacular, but the waiter and sommelier added so much to the pleasure of the meal by describing each dish and wine with just the right level of enthusiasm that could have had me listen all night. Overall - an extraordinary gustatory experience. The layers of flavor, color, and crunch made each bite a thrill. My only regret is that I am from out of town and will have to travel far for my next meal there! This is a meal I will remember fondly for a long long time."

I'm always amazed at how difficult it is to get a reservation here because I'm just not that impressed. For the price point, there are other places I like better. That said, it's nice to mix it up once in a while and the food is above average. "

  • "So, the food is always very well planned. flavors are perfectly paired, Cocktails were really good too. Its a little pricey but its worth it. My major concern is that service is very slow. I have been to the restaurant 4 times and each time this is the case. either someone forgot they were handling inside or the outside section or the waiter is on break or something. it took 20 mins just to get acknowledged and that's because I had to go to the hostess for a waiter. Service once I got served was pretty good. The waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful. Cleaned off the table once we completed our meal. Also I requested to be seated next to the window my reservation and they did that for me too. Its worth going, just plan your time wisely."

  • "Logan is a pretty good upscale restaurant but our last visit was just so-so. It took forever for the wine to arrive, service was pretty casual but it was he food that really disappointed. The fennel appetizer was plain dull; all the lovely falvor of the fennel had been cooked away. The scallops main course satisfied but the Greek lamb was dull. No dessert seemed appealing. We'll be back after we have the made the ounds of some of the newer restaurants in AA."

  • "What a great experience. The Food was fantastic and the presenation of all the dishes was very thoughtful. I was allowed to taste my wifes shrimp dish the the flavors were great, as was my tempura perch. While the restaurant calls itself an American restaurant, the flavors are very reflective our multicultural societ. Great mix of flavors and and very creative dishes."

  • "I brought my parents hear for a nice dinner while they visited me for an extended memorial weekend. They wait staff was friendly and got us situated right away. Before our waiter had even come over, the bartender (who I later found out was one of the owners) came over to take our drink orders. He was very attentive and interested in what we liked. We ordered our food, with a considerable amount of help from our waiter! Everything looked too good to choose! He was very knowledgable about the menu. After we ordered, my mom and I wanted to order some other drinks that would pair with our meal. The bartender/owner came back over and once again was GREAT in helping us choose wine that paired excellently! EVERYTHING we ordered was delicious!"

  • "We had impeccable service and great food here. Don't expect large portions, but rather perfectly sized for a satisfying meal and really excellently executed - for flavor and for beauty. Good mixed drinks and wine list. No beer on draft. My only wish is that they had wine by the glass that has no added sulfites. There didn't seem to be any sulfite-free wine available."

It's worth following his advice. When we lived in Ann Arbor we tried other places but always returned to Logan. Now, when we visit, we think of nowhere else. "

  • "Took my husband here for a birthday celebration. From the beginning, our wait person, Catlin was great. She told us about the specials for the evening and let us enjoy our cocktails and appetizers. We ordered a bottle of wine and Kevin came over to discuss our choice. He suggested based on our entrée, a different bottle and am glad it did. It was outstanding. This was a perfect dinner and evening. Not cheap as average price per person including cocktails is around $50-$60 per person, but worth every penny. Can't wait for my birthday to go back."

  • "The menu has outstanding flavors based upon the chef's unique sauces. We didnt do it the but table next to use did the 5 course "blind" tasting menu and it looked outstanding. I'd recommend trying that for the adventurous types. He had the Thai Scallops and the Lamb entrees. Both were excellent. Crab and Avocado appetizer was delicious as well."

  • "My husband and I selected Logan for our monthly date night after hearing great things from friends about it. What a prefect place for a romantic outing. And the food was amazing. Case in point - I pushed my comfort zone by ordering a veggie entree with cauliflower as the main ingredient since I don't even buy it to cook at home. To my surprise, I loved the dish! My husband had a hen entree and was equally impressed (and he's a real foodie). We also were very impressed with the service; we think it was the best table service that we've experienced in a long time. Would definitely recommend to couples and small groups since the setting is rather cozy."
