It reflects, as does the bar, a genuine, richly authentic Southern Arizona historic charm and ambience including rough-hewn artist-design hand-painted wood beams and Mexican tin chandeliers. This is the ideal venue to showcase Lodge on the Desert’s ‘new American’ upscale and contemporary cuisine, blending flavors from America’s melting pot with cooking techniques both traditional and unconventional. The culinary team's focus includes incorporating fresh ingredients from local growers and organic producers resulting in menu items that are well balanced and flavorful. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Lodge on the Desert is a most pleasant dining experience. Interesting, understandable food. Calm and competent service. Convivial, but quiet atmosphere. Fish was perfectly cooked and attractively presented. Thoroughly enjoyable dining and socializing experience."

  • "Food was great as well as presentation. Staff was eager to please and attentive. I would definitely visit again!"

  • "The preparation of the dishes was fantastic. The beef tenderloin perfectly done. Vegetarian dish was blue corn tamale and the spices paired with it made fabulous flavors."

  • "Went to dinner at the Lodge on the Desert for our 30th anniversary. Meal and service was excellent. The local, grass-fed ribeye melted in my mouth and the complementary wine brought out to drink with our appetizers was a nice touch. both our entrees were exceptional and our waiter bringing out the bottle of of Johnny Walker Blue to serve me at our table was a highlight. Dessert and the dessert wines were excellent as well."

  • "Disappointing to say the least. Rib eye over cooked, duck so, so. Since it is almost 30 miles from SaddleBrooke, I will probably never dine there again."

  • "The people and the food were great. I had one of the best steaks I have eaten in a while. I would without a doubt go back. There were 4 of us. We all enjoyed our evening there. Jerry was a attentive service. Kudos to him and the chef"

  • "We enjoyed the quaint dining room and had a nice table by the window. The bread that came in the beginning of the meal was really good as well as our dinner. The waiter was helpful as to what to order. We enjoyed our wine at a reasonable price."

  • "Food was good--service so so. Waitresses friendly but slow. We were the only persons there for lunch(party of five). We asked for water and were given it eventually but never offered a refill. Same with the coffee. When our food arrived we were warned about hot plates--which were not even warm."

  • "The restaurant at the Lodge on the Desert is hidden on the side of the Lodge. However, it is worth seeking out. The menu included very interesting choices, the food was great, the service was outstanding, and the setting was beautiful."

  • "The restaurant was excellent! The food was extraordinary and the service superb!"

  • "We've been curious since the Star Power Chef left to his own restaurant, how the new Chef would be. There is not a beat missing and in fact it's probably as good or better now. I had an appetizer for an entree and my husband had the duck. Other dishes at our table were the chicken and the salmon. Beet salad and a couple of desserts. Go Lodge!"

  • "My husband and I celebrated our 22nd year anniversary here. It was the perfect place... romantic, elegant, quiet, great service... We were spoiled with free champagne with our delicious meal and a complimentary creme brulee for dessert. "
    Dined on 6/5/2014
  • "The service was poor. Our waiter told us that the salmon was caught in the Atlantic. The chicken dish was swimming in oil. The striped bass was tasty, but too much salt. The servings were small. "

  • "The waiter did not know the wines well. Our wine was not cold enough; and we had to ask for an ice bucket. The salad was fresh but the dressing had an unpleasant flavour. My fish was nicely presented but not noteworthy; my spouse's chicken was however excellent. The menu was new for the summer, but when we ordered the cheese dessert neither choice (Manchego or Saint Andre) was available!! The plate we accepted instead had 4 or 5 small, square (?) slices of unripe, bland "Brie" and a teaspoon of acidic Danish Blue, with tasty raspberries and flavourless blackberries. The final and thankfully free touch: white chocolate coated pine nuts and roasted garlic. Unpleasant and pretentious. "

  • "My friend and I were celebtrating her 76th birthday on the patio. Our server brought menus and seemed anxious to take our orders. Since this was our first time at Lodge on the Desert, we were wanting to experience a relaxed lunch & needed some extra time. Before our meal was done, the waitress brought the bill! After our lunch, I asked for the dessert menu. She brought one dessert menu. I asked if she could bring another. Who brings one menu when two people are eating? After our meal, the bill arrived once again. I put cash, a coupon and expected to get my change back so that I could add more for a tip. I never got the change so went looking for the waitress inside. I asked her if everything was o.k. and she said yes. "

  • "I had not been back to LOTD since Ryan Clark left. I have to admit the food was delicious, and the service was excellent."

  • "A bit of a disappointment. I got the duck breast and my husband got tuna (fish of the day). Both were over cooked. The ceasar salad was very good, as was the soup. Wine list is very limited and fairly pricey. Service was very good. "

  • "We had never been so we looked forward to going there for Mothers Day. It was obvious right away they were not prepared for a normal Mothers Day crowd. We ended up being there 2 hours and 25 minutes. Our server, Raymond did his best and was very cordial. The food was well below what you would expect from a chef as nothing had flavor and the main course was what I could make at home. We asked for bread to help fill our stomachs in between the long waits for each course and they were out of bread. This was at 1PM. Unacceptable. The manager is responsible: not enough staff, food not ready and to run out of bread, pretty bad. The menu was way too limited if you did not want the 4 course deal. Doubt we will ever return."

  • "We have been to the Lodge many times in the past for wonderful experiences for brunch and for dinner. This time, however, was a great disapointment. We waited almost an hour for our cold soup, and then again almost as long for our additional courses which were so-so in preparation and presentation. The eggs benedict was the only dish that lived up to expectations. While the servers and maitre'd were gracious and apologetic, the complete lack of ability to carry out the Mother's Day menu was unacceptable. I'm not sure we will return, which is unfortunate as the ambience is wonderful. Complimentary champagne and our conversation flowed freely, otherwise there was no compensation for the atrocious wait times for everything from soup to check. "

  • "Slow, slow service. It took 40 min. before our drink order was delivered. We asked for appetizers to be made in an entrée size but they came out as appetizers. "

  • "Everything was way above good. Just make sure you don't get seated next to the kitchen entrance. The AC compressor is right on the other side of the wall there and boy...it is annoying. I didn't realize what it was until too late to request a table change."

  • "We originally booked one night with a dinner reservation for our anniversary. Everything about this place was exceptional. The dining experience was one of the best i have ever had. The food was gourmet all the way. Service was unbelievable. The bar for Happy hour was great. We enjoyed the first night so much i booked a second night. Again the dinner and service was first rate. The server remembered what drinks we liked and i can not say enough about this place."

  • "We have been coming to Lodge on the Desert for special occasions for some years now (even when a stay in the lodge itself was not feasable). This restaurant, and hotel are true gems. The ambiance of the desert but set in the middle of Tucson. Because of the high walls surrounding the complex, traffic noise is virtually non-existant, and the view is of exquisitely manicuered, lush foliage, picturesque Southwestern Architecture and clean skies without any hint that you're in the middle of the city. The cuisine is wonderful, with a Southwest accent throughout. The menu changes, but is always delicious, regional, and created from local sources! Chef Van Winden really hit it out of the park here."

  • "We needed an evening snack after a large Easter brunch, and found a delicious one at Lodge on the Desert. The menu was small but excellently executed and presented- the guacamole spicy and fresh, an interesting glaze on the ribs and the lamb sliders were to die for. We also had a deal on a bottle of prosecco not on the menu but part of their earlier Easter brunch. The intimate courtyard was quiet and softly lit, just the place to relax after a busy day. The staff was attentive but not obtrusive and flexible in offering options for a meal that would meet our needs. My partner and I enjoyed our snack and noted this as a great place to visit again."

  • "Open Table is either misinformed or not up to date. Ryan Clark moved on and is not the Executive Chef. Also, there was no dinner menu on Easter Sunday, the main dining room was closed (not booked as the Open Table response implied) so Open Table must get its act together and check up on these staff changes, as it's been pretty well known of the change. That being said, Lodge has taken a step back with its menu and now has to make up for losing ground. "

  • " This is a very lovely setting and friendly staff The food was ever so good Desserts a bit dry because they were outside Food could have been hotter too BUT all in all it was a delicious affair Mix up with reservation was handled very professionally and without complaint "

  • "The atmosphere was welcoming and friendly. The food was very good, but the selection was rather limited. There were no green salads and very little bread. The lamb was excellent! It was nice to have the chef and hotel manager stop by the table. The waiter was difficult to find--he did not offer coffee or another beverage after the ladies had their "complementary Mimosa." Men were not offered a Mimosa, despite what the posted menu said on the web site. So, all in all, it was a nice experience and I would go back, again."

  • "Sometimes one gets lazy--even in a small-ish town, avoiding a drive of maybe 20 minutes to try a spot that everyone knows--but me. So breakfast it was with out-of-towners, and it was a total hit all around. A delightful patio in a Spanish architecture inn, with a pleasant and able wait staff. And the best discovery--a talented and flexible kitchen with a number of uniquely conceived Southwestern favorites on the menu in addition to the traditional and the healthy. The lunch menu looks equally promising and based on this successful venture there will be more visits to come and recommendations for others to experience it. "

  • "A great dinner. The artichoke appetizer was to die for - so delicious. It was large enough for the four of us. The salads were very fresh and tasty. Our entree's - lamb, fish, and the special short rib dinner were outstanding. A great dinner."

  • "We recently had out of town guests come into town. Lodge on the Desert was the perfect place to bring them for a delicious meal in a lovely setting. We love that Chef Marcus uses local ingredients and takes a modern twist on Southwestern cuisine. Our group loved the gnocchi and pork belly appetizer and everyone fawned over their entrees (several of the seasonal fish - which was trout with potatoes and some incredible spinach, an order of salmon and a yam casserole with green chilis - unexpected but delicious!, a chicken dish that was very well prepared and the pork tenderloin, which was wonderful!) The house margaritas hit the spot and the service was polite and attentive without being intrusive. We will be back soon!!"

  • "This valentine's dinner was a very nice experience. The fact of sharing most dishes was maybe appropriate, but not the thing for me. The best dish of the evening was the Boursin stuffed quail! The intermezzo dish/drink between main course and dessert was a pleasant pallet cleanser, however the hard plastic straw was not up to your standard. Would have preferred two spoons or just drink it from the glass."

  • "We walked into the restaurant, got seated, then didn't see a waitress for over 10 minutes. Not a good sign. The restaurant was really plain, despite a pretty walk through the hotel grounds to get there. Fortunately, the food was pretty good. My husband had the hash and I had the huevos rancheros. Both of us liked our dish, although my brother had the huevos and didn't really care for it (it's different than a traditional huevos). Overall it was just mediocre and I probably wouldn't go back."

  • "Chef has changed and so has the FOOD:- my Caesar salad was not as good as before- my husband's soup needed more salt -our entrees of trout were very good, and plated well---- SERVICE: was not outstanding- white wine served was not chilled enough- had to ask for wine to be chilled- when we mentioned the wine the server said "oh, I wish you had told me before" - we feel that caliber of restaurant should know to serve wine - we were not asked if we wanted more bread and accompanying oil poured for bread was not an overly generous portion, also had to wait awhile to get the bread- they seemed to forget us. Probably will try another restaurant for my husband's birthday next year- they also did not ask if we were celebrating an occasion"
