A word from Lodge on the Desert
The intimate restaurant at Lodge on the Desert is framed with floor-to-ceiling windows and overlooks a spacious secluded Saltillo-tiled outdoor private patio featuring a four-sided fireplace for optimal year ‘round al fresco dining. It reflects, as does the bar, a genuine, richly authentic Southern Arizona historic charm and ambience including rough-hewn artist-design hand-painted wood beams and Mexican tin chandeliers. This is the ideal venue to showcase Lodge on the Desert’s ‘new American’ upscale and contemporary cuisine, blending flavors from America’s melting pot with cooking techniques both traditional and unconventional. The culinary team's focus includes incorporating fresh ingredients from local growers and organic producers resulting in menu items that are well balanced and flavorful. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Open Table is either misinformed or not up to date. Ryan Clark moved on and is not the Executive Chef. Also, there was no dinner menu on Easter Sunday, the main dining room was closed (not booked as the Open Table response implied) so Open Table must get its act together and check up on these staff changes, as it's been pretty well known of the change. That being said, Lodge has taken a step back with its menu and now has to make up for losing ground. "

  • " This is a very lovely setting and friendly staff The food was ever so good Desserts a bit dry because they were outside Food could have been hotter too BUT all in all it was a delicious affair Mix up with reservation was handled very professionally and without complaint "

  • "We needed an evening snack after a large Easter brunch, and found a delicious one at Lodge on the Desert. The menu was small but excellently executed and presented- the guacamole spicy and fresh, an interesting glaze on the ribs and the lamb sliders were to die for. We also had a deal on a bottle of prosecco not on the menu but part of their earlier Easter brunch. The intimate courtyard was quiet and softly lit, just the place to relax after a busy day. The staff was attentive but not obtrusive and flexible in offering options for a meal that would meet our needs. My partner and I enjoyed our snack and noted this as a great place to visit again."

  • "Very good food. A place for special occasions. Good wine list. Fairly expensive but worth it."

  • "Sometimes one gets lazy--even in a small-ish town, avoiding a drive of maybe 20 minutes to try a spot that everyone knows--but me. So breakfast it was with out-of-towners, and it was a total hit all around. A delightful patio in a Spanish architecture inn, with a pleasant and able wait staff. And the best discovery--a talented and flexible kitchen with a number of uniquely conceived Southwestern favorites on the menu in addition to the traditional and the healthy. The lunch menu looks equally promising and based on this successful venture there will be more visits to come and recommendations for others to experience it. "

  • "A great dinner. The artichoke appetizer was to die for - so delicious. It was large enough for the four of us. The salads were very fresh and tasty. Our entree's - lamb, fish, and the special short rib dinner were outstanding. A great dinner."

  • "We (and most other patrons that day) ate outside due to this beautiful "winter" weather we are having. Service was a little slow but the food was delicious and we greatly enjoyed our meal. We look forward to returning soon!"

  • "We recently had out of town guests come into town. Lodge on the Desert was the perfect place to bring them for a delicious meal in a lovely setting. We love that Chef Marcus uses local ingredients and takes a modern twist on Southwestern cuisine. Our group loved the gnocchi and pork belly appetizer and everyone fawned over their entrees (several of the seasonal fish - which was trout with potatoes and some incredible spinach, an order of salmon and a yam casserole with green chilis - unexpected but delicious!, a chicken dish that was very well prepared and the pork tenderloin, which was wonderful!) The house margaritas hit the spot and the service was polite and attentive without being intrusive. We will be back soon!!"

  • "This valentine's dinner was a very nice experience. The fact of sharing most dishes was maybe appropriate, but not the thing for me. The best dish of the evening was the Boursin stuffed quail! The intermezzo dish/drink between main course and dessert was a pleasant pallet cleanser, however the hard plastic straw was not up to your standard. Would have preferred two spoons or just drink it from the glass."

  • "We walked into the restaurant, got seated, then didn't see a waitress for over 10 minutes. Not a good sign. The restaurant was really plain, despite a pretty walk through the hotel grounds to get there. Fortunately, the food was pretty good. My husband had the hash and I had the huevos rancheros. Both of us liked our dish, although my brother had the huevos and didn't really care for it (it's different than a traditional huevos). Overall it was just mediocre and I probably wouldn't go back."

  • "Chef has changed and so has the FOOD:- my Caesar salad was not as good as before- my husband's soup needed more salt -our entrees of trout were very good, and plated well---- SERVICE: was not outstanding- white wine served was not chilled enough- had to ask for wine to be chilled- when we mentioned the wine the server said "oh, I wish you had told me before" - we feel that caliber of restaurant should know to serve wine - we were not asked if we wanted more bread and accompanying oil poured for bread was not an overly generous portion, also had to wait awhile to get the bread- they seemed to forget us. Probably will try another restaurant for my husband's birthday next year- they also did not ask if we were celebrating an occasion"

  • "First time with Chef Marcus. Very good menu. Wife and I both had steaks that were cooked to order. Sides, garlic spinach and fingerling potatoes were a good choice. Will be back on the 25th for more."

  • "Lodge on the Desert has lost innovative chef Ryan Clark, but the kitchen is still cooking with local ingredients in smart and tasty combinations. The menu is limited, but seems like everything is quite good. Service is friendly and attentive, though a bit slow at times. The dining room was subdued but busy on a Thursday night during our most recent visit. I'm sure we'll be back soon."

  • "Lodge on the Desert is still a wonderful, relaxing place for a meal. Even with Ryan Clark having moved on, the menu is appealing (and still contains his lunch selections). The food is served attractively and the service is punctual but non-intrusive. We always enjoy our dining there."

  • "We thought we'd go to LOTD for dinner to try out the new chef. He's done some tweaking on the menu, and it's all good. I look forward to seeing what else he does."

  • "It was the first night for the new menu from the new chef. It was a great menu. I really enjoyed the roasted local beet salad and the maple glazed duck. My husband liked the chef's cutting board and the Western Paella. Looking forward to dining here again"

  • "Having been to Lodge on the Desert before, I chose it again because of its good food and quiet atmosphere. It is a great place to have a nice conversation with your significant other, date or wife. The food was as usual excellent."

  • "Had the Salmon salad for lunch. Ingredients very fresh....and some local ingredients -- The organic spinach & local pecans were fabulous; salmon prepared perfectly & dressing delicious. I will return to have that dish again."

  • "I am sad to write that our dining experience was disappointing. There just wasn't anything to rave about. Mom and I both ordered the enchiladas with the eggs on top. The presentation was quite appetizing. However, she found numerous bones from the chicken. The further into the enchilada, the more I could taste the skillet it was served in. It had a metallic flavor. This was just such a letdown considering I'd heard pretty good things about the renovation of the hotel. I had too high expectations. Our server was pleasant, but not too attentive throughout the meal, especially since there was only one other table filled in the dining room at the time we were dining."

  • "We were disappointed in our patio lunch at this Resort dining room. The small, wall-enclosed patio is pretty and does have a fountain. However, we won't be back. Probably in the evening and on weekends, there are more people and a livelier ambiance. Our server was ok. Our food was ok. That's all--just ok."

  • "My mother and I stayed the night here and went to dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. Each started with a prompt greeting and table placement. Quick service for ordering and bringing our food out. The food was excellent and the service continued to shine. We both agreed the whole stay was perfect."

  • "We've eaten at the Lodge several times, but last night was disappointing. Service was SLOW!! Like 10 minutes for a drink, 45 minutes for the appetizer, then the entree. Tasty. But by the time the food came, I had lost my appetite. Usually a first class place, but not last night."

  • "Disappointing. We have been there previously with excellent food and service. This time, the food was only so-so and the service was diffident. We brought various issues to the attention of the assistant server but the server never came over to check or respond. When we were ready to check out, we asked if the server had gotten the message and the server replied in the affirmative. But the server never acted on that feedback nor came back to check. The restaurant was virtually empty, but there were long periods where the server never checked in. We learned the next day the executive chef has left for a different restaurant. So previous good reviews may not reflect current reality."

  • "I was pleased to see several new menu items at Lodge on the Desert. Chicken-thigh meatballs with a dunking mole sauce was WONDERFUL!!! I may go back one day and just order a double order of that appetizer. Really excellent. Everything else was also top notch...great salmon and terrific twice-baked steak."

  • "My wife and I have eaten at the Lodge on the Desert more than 20 times beginning in December 2010. We have never had a meal there that was not delicious. I usually order the salmon, but last night I had prime rib that melted in my mouth. My wife always orders the steak and loves it every time."

  • "Lodge on the Desert is a wonderful restaurant right in the middle of town. Their twice-baked steak is excellent and their salmon is outstanding. Side dishes are creative and salads are fresh and very lightly dressed, not smothered in oil. Desserts are also great, though we seldom have room for dessert. the house-made gelatto is terrific...always room for gelatto. Service is attentive and friendly."
