  • "My husband and I are very pleased that we chose Lockwood to be the first dinner on our honeymoon vacation. The menu was appetizing for this foodie, and the wine and cocktails list pleased my husband, a former mixologist and sommelier. Our server was professional and knowledgeable, and the bar staff were friendly, welcoming, and also knowledgeable. Kudos to Lockwood for making our first night, and each night, of the honeymoon very special. "

  • "My husband and I met for lunch. The food was good, but I would have preferred more care and less food. My club had so much bacon on it that it fell apart every time I picked it up. The tomato soup was laden with rosemary, which was unusual, but not that pleasant. My husbands turkey burger was fine, but for the price we expected something more than just fine. The service was a little slow at times, but friendly."

  • "Second visit to Lockwood and though food was good, service was terrible compared to the first experience despite it being Valentines Day. The hostess did not take jackets, seating was poor, we were pouring our own bottles of wine (not really a huge deal) and service was alarmingly slow. Steak and scallops were both cooked well but given the price of the meal, the other attributes to the evening failed to meet expectations."

This is a shame because the location and setting could make for a great business lunch place not sure about dinner but after this I don't think I would try it."

  • "Lovely tea service with freshly prepared sandwiches, scones, and pastries. So disappointed that the Ritz no longer does tea after the holidays; they were the best, as far as I'm concerned. Palmer House came in very close. Only negatives were we waited 20 minutes or so even though we had a reservation (they made up for that by comping us each a glass of champagne). Once we were seated, everything was outstanding. Request the mezzanine, as the lobby is very busy and noisy with a lot of pedestrian traffic. The mezzanine allows you to overlook the lobby but have some privacy."

  • "HORRIBLE! I went to Lockwood on 2/3/13 for restaurant week and had one of the worst restaurant experiences. The restaurant week menu had crab cakes as an appetizer so of course I ordered those! 30 minutes go by and we still have no food. Keep in mind, we are there at noon for a quick business lunch. Finally, the waiter comes to tell me they are out of crab cakes. I was surprised because it was only noon and they were out of crab already? Plus, they had crab cakes on their restaurant week menu so wouldn’t they know to stock up on crab? Anyways, the waiter said he could substitute spinach and artichoke dip for the crab cake which is DEFINITELY not a substitute but I was really hungry and agreed. A"

  • "The prices were way out of line. We ordered the cauliflower ravioli appetizer. The waiter warned us that it was a small portion. SMALL, 3 tiny ravioli for what was listed on the menu as $13 or $14, that's about $3.50 a pebble (oh, ravioli), not including tax and tip. I had the grilled winter vegetables for $23.00, and that was lovely, lots of variety, although too many cubed turnips and vinegared Swiss kale for my taste. The Lockwood was participating in the restaurant week promotion, but the prix fixe was $44, and the only choice for dessert was a heavily dairy chocolate mousse brownie concoction which no one in our party wanted so we ordered al a carte. There is no feeling of intimacy."

  • "Let me be clear...food and service were fantastic. We checked the menu ahead of time and found a chicken option for my fussy niece. it wasn't on the menu that had just changed. Our waiter asked the chef, and he accommodated. I am grateful for that. Our only issue is that it was my birthday and my sister was trying to make it special. The restaurant wouldn't do anything. We balanced that with what the chef did and obviously, we still have a very positive view of the place."

  • "I was staying at the Palmer house on a cold winter night and decided to eat at the hotel restaurant, which is Lockwood. Everything was excellent and the dessert was outstanding. I had striped bass, served on a bed of mashed sweet potatoes and whole small turnips. I had a side of brussell sprouts, which were grilled in butter and delicious. For dessert, I had the "apple cider" which is poached apple with butter pecan gelato, and a variety of tasty garnishes, and was really terrific. Overall, excellent but pricey. With a large glass of wine, it was $85 including tax and tip."

  • "There's nothing wrong with Lockwood. The food is good, and the staff is capable, but it's just not worth what they're charging. I've been there several times now, and every time, I leave feeling like I overpaid. Of course, we keep going back, so I guess that should count for something, but that really has more to do with how we feel about the Palmer House and not necessarily our feelings about Lockwood. I'm sorry to say it, but at the end of the day, if I'm going to spend that kind of money, there are other places I'd rather go."

  • "3rd or 4th time since they opened, and it keeps getting better! Service was excellent, from the follow up call confirming the reservation through the host taking my coat and directing me to my friends at the table through a prompt visit from our server to catch me up on drinks. Presentation of each dish was impressive. We hung out for two hours with a 6:45 PM start, and there was no pressure to move, just continuously good service. The trout I had was prepared perfectly, crunchy skin on. Colleagues loved their prix fixe entrés. Prices are not cheap, but you get what you pay for."

  • "I got the turkey burger. Although it was a good idea to mix in vegetables in the patty, it was extremely salty. I didn't even eat 1/3 of the burger. Mushroom soup was just ok. And you obviously can't mess up a salad. So it was just ok. For the number of servers and staff they had walking around, the service was disappointing. Not bad, but not good."

  • "This lobby restaurant at the Palmer House is simply outstanding. We were seated immediately when arriving early for our pre-theatre dinner. The risotto appetizer was perfectly cooked and the kitchen divided it for sharing without drama. Striped bass, flaky and flavorful and beautifully garnished. Salmon on black rice was also cooked to perfection. Albarino wine was the divine accompaniment. Service was spot on, attentive when needed, in the background the rest of the time. I would definitely return again. Funny sidenote: When returning our check, the waiter called us "Mr and Mrs," not knowing this was our first date!"

  • "Having been here 4 times prior, I chose to host 3 guests here on Jan 10. What a mistake! We were seated at a 4-top in the front area, not the dining room proper. That seemed fine because we were the only ones in the section. The menu has significantly changed - for the worse. Even the menu itself is pathetic - some half size sheet in a piece of plastic. Gone were some of the notable dishes I enjoyed before (salmon on pretzel roll). The menu couldn't have been more unimaginative. It took a while for our server to come to the table. Water was never re-filled. Food was very so-so. We finished the meal and waited 10-15 minutes before the server came and asked if we wanted coffee or dessert. That was embarassing for me as the host of the table."

For an expensive place like this, sort of expected more solicitious service, we sat quite a long time before our very professional, warm waiter came by for a drink order. We were there on a very quiet night, after holidays and inclement weather so don't know how lively this place really is. Since one goes to restaurants for food, this place was actually perfect for that. Thought to price for salad was pointlessly high for the amount given"

  • "Made this reservation based on the restaurant's overall 4+ star rating, and I find that rating unfathomable. While the menu looks interesting, execution is wanting. The french onion soup, for example, is similar to what you would find in any run-of-the-mill Greek diner, expect twice as expensive. I guess that's to be expected from a hotel restaurant. The room-temp sausage flatbread would have been pretty good in any standard lunch cafeteria...but, again, far from impressive at $15. The hotel lobby was the best part of the experience, but anyone can walk in to take a look and then go somewhere better to eat."

They called in advance about dietary requirements. We had a vegetarian in the party but no special accommodation was made by the chief so why they bothered to call and ask is beyond me."

  • "I had a business dinner and was short on time so I booked the Lockwood as a was staying at the Palmer House. What a gem!!! The food was excellent and the wine was super toto the sommelier was very very helpful and knowledgeable. One of the best experiences I have had in a city that has great dining if you want an education on wine please engage Tito. He is form Northern Italy and is willing to share his knowledge and opinions and let you taste different wines before you choose. Also the wait staff was attentive and very accommodating. Overall an excellent experience."

  • "I dined with two colleagues at Lockwood last week. In years past, the restaurant boasted impeccable service and interesting food. This time, not so much of either. To begin, I was running late for the reservation and called twice to ask that the table be held. Both times no one answered the phone at all. I left a message. I reached my dining partners via text and they got a table. When I arrived, my dining partners told me that the hostess completely ignored them and just stood looking blankly ahead when they arrived and asked about the reservation. The table service was extremely slow. The food is nothing special - especially for the high prices. This restaurant does not live up to the long-standing reputation of the Palmer House."
