Diner Reviews
  • "We're lucky enough to live just around the corner from Locanda, but it's well worth a trip. Excellent food, friendly service, a marvelous experience from beginning to end."

  • "Food is OUTSTANDING and truly Italian. But alas the environment is nothing like I've experienced in Italy. On a busy weekend evening, diners are packed in like sardines. Everyone's shouting in an attempt to be heard over everyone else. A scrum of hungry people waiting for a table spill into the dining room, because there's nowhere else to stand. We ate as quickly as possible and beat it out of there. Will return on a weeknight, unfashionably early, so we can better enjoy the fabulous cooking and intriguing cocktail selection."

  • "I love everything about this place. Food is excellent, decor is amazing, service and ambience great. It is a v special place. And it is walking distance from my house and in a beautiful residential neighborhood."

  • "Risking the wrath of locals who might want to keep this one to themselves, we had the perfect experience; warm welcome, great service, delicious food. Everything exceeded expectations, including the Negronis, We just had a great night out and loved everything about this restaurant. When something is this good, we'll definitely be going back."

  • "My wife and I took our baby with us and the staff was very nice and accommodating. They found a place for us in the corner and made sure our baby is comfortable. We saw another couple that brought their daughter. Definitely kid friendly! Food is good but a bit on the salty side. The seafood stew was very good and would be our recommendation. Overall the food was good but not exceptional."

  • "This little restaurant was recommended by a friend who stumbled upon it in January. So happy she told me about it, as we wanted dinner before attending an event at the Barclay Center (within walking distance). The location - an old corner pharmacy - is so quaint. The staff was so friendly, knowledgeable and accomodating. We will definitely recommend this to others and hope to return in the future!"

  • "Noise level was oppressive, though open table might call it energetic. My wife's fish was ehh. There was no need for the music that only added to the noise level."

  • "Staff is great, makes you feel like your are a close friend. Food is always excellent, very reasonable prices for the quality of the food."

  • "Charming space -- a former pharmacy with just the right amount of the original cabinetry and decor retained and repurposed. Owners and staff are gracious, friendly and knowledgeable. Everyone in restaurant seemingly happy to be there and having a great time. Thoughtful, well-priced menu and wine list. The food was was well executed, simple and with slightly muted flavors. It also cooled very quickly because served on cold plates. None of this detracted from the pleasure of it, however, and I would go back without hesitation."

  • "EVERYTHING VERY WELL EXECUTED. SERVICE, SPOT ON, KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF. INTERESTING WINES. A VERY INTERESTING ROOM . UNHURRIED GREAT DINNER."

  • "Simple preparation of what are in essence peasant dishes. Simple preparation without a lot of cheese and garlic. A definite do again. Only complaint is service of the tasting menu seemed rushed We had a 6 o'clock seating and there was at least one more seating following. Service was efficient but friendly."

  • "I've been coming to Locanda for years and have had maybe one bad course in all of my dinners there. The wine list is very good and perhaps better than you might expect. It's a cool spot for a restaurant too (old pharmacy, original sign, discreet), but cute locations can mean over-hyped reputatiosn and mediocre food; not so here though, which makes it even more enjoyable. Plus it's far enough away from BAM and Barclays that it will remain a neighborhood restaurant filled with neighbors and their friends, which is a plus."

  • "It was an excellent meal top to bottom!! The sage pappardelle with braised duck was to die for!! Thank you!"

  • "And was intrigued with the fact that it had been a Pharmacy and that they had held on to the original aspects of the former for the restaurant. I was very surprised to find out that this hidden Brooklyn gem had been in business for 13 years. My friends who are foodies really enjoyed it and as the non-foodie I was impressed by the ambiance."

  • "A very agreeable spot which retains many of the fixtures of the old-fashioned pharmacy once located here. The kitchen does some amazing things at reasonable prices and the wine list, affixed to bottles placed on the tables, abounds in good value. Staff both affable and helpful."

  • "The drinks were great and the atmosphere is fun, but the food was slightly underwhelming. It was a good meal, but too expensive, I think, for what it was."

  • "From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed by Michael, one of the owners, the service is caual but warm and attentive, the entire staff gives the feeling that they are only too happy to make your dining experience be a memorable one. The food is outstanding. We tried the Cauliflower soufflé antipasti, the sardine, pine nut & raisin pasta (primi) the braised pork & arugala and the Branzini & fennel ( secundi), finishing with two different salads ( which by then we were too full to do justice to, so asked to take them home) - every dish was superb. We loved the place and will go back , hopefully, again and again!"

  • "The ambiance and experience are outstanding. As for the food, certain dishes are outstanding, certain merely very good. All in all one of the more pleasant meals to be had in Brooklyn."

  • "got shoved in table all the way in the back. this table shouldnt exist. were blocked from servers, which prevented them from checking on us as much as the should have. took 10 mins for anyone to come to the table and another 20 mins to get our 1st drink. the menu recommends that everybody gets one starter - one pasta and one main. this could be too much food. it was for all of us. Dont get me wrong the food was ok, but lacked the flavor that i expected based on the very high prices."

  • "The decor looks great and is creative. The service is good. The menu looks goods and creative. Unfortunately, the food is nothing special at all. Unlike real Italian cuisine, which had a lot of flavor (I use to spend all my summers in Italy...), all the main plates didn't have much taste. The wine table was mediocre. On the overall, we were disappointed."

  • "Our food was very bland - "spicy" baby octopus was tough and just tasted like tomato sauce, duck tasted only like char, and the branzino and chickpeas basically tasted like nothing. Friends who got pasta seemed a little happier, but not much. The wine was good. Every restaurant has an off night, but at this price point food should taste good. The ambience was great."

  • "the cauliflower sformato and the Tuscan kale over fettunta were to die for. The duck dish, the chicken liver appetizer, the cheese plate, the pasta with braised pork cheeks, and the rabbit pasta dish were also incredibly enjoyable. The ricotta and grape tart wasn't so great, but one miss in a sea of hits is a pretty fantastic ratio. Very cool ambiance too. Oh, and our table of 5 could all talk and hear one another, which was wonderful. highly recommended."

  • "We had a great meal here. Everything was delicious and the staff was very accommodating of a very annoying situation. We had a reservation for six but only four of us arrived due a miscommunication about our plans, and we were unable to get in touch with the last two people for about thirty minutes. The staff didn't pressure us, and then when the last two people did finally arrive, they seated them without complaint and let us sit for about three hours with no issues. And more importantly, the food is great."

  • "This was our first visit to Locanda, which is close to where we live. We had tried to come once before but couldn't get a last minute reservation. This time we booked for 7 pm and it was fine. Our waiter was very friendly and offered explanations on food and wines. I had the trippa Fiorentina and branzinno, both excellent. My wife ordered a selection of crostini and a pasta and was also very happy. The protions were just fine and everything was delicious in a traditional Italian style. The ambiance is also very nice, relaxed but chic. We will definitely become regulars."

  • "My friend and I were shocked at how bad the food was at Locanda Vini e Olii. Everything we ordered was on soggy white bread, the food was bland but overly salted. We had never had such terrible food at a restaurant and were worried how we could politely answer when the waiter would ask us how everything was. We were never asked. They do not seem to care at all about their food which shows in their unimaginative menu, their inattentiveness and horrible food. We were shocked anyone would come here and looked around to see huge glasses of wine and neglected plates of unfinished food. I think people just come here to drink or that would be the only reason to come here."

  • "Excellent food and wine. The rabbit terrine was especially good. Lovely dining room with much character left intact from the old pharmacy. Warm and convivial atmosphere."

  • "A real neighbourhood gem with amazing italian food and a great decor + ambience. Set on a very quiet residential street so will be necessary to have cars take you there and out if you are planning to go anywhere afterwards. Perfect for a quiet date night or energetic group dinner. Order the chef's menu, the selections made are fantastic and it allows everyone to taste a bit of everything, family-style."

  • "Hidden on a residential corner under an old pharmacy sign, Locanda always delivers. The manager/owner recognizes us and orders up Old Fashions, our favorite cocktail here. Dinner options can accommodate all party and appetite sizes, whether for 2 or 6. We recommending sharing pasta and entree's with larger groups but pasta dishes are perfect for 2. We typically opt for a veggie pasta and the duck. Although the menu does rotate a bit seasonally so we change it up when appropriate. Much of the decor was retained from the old pharmacy with Italian kitcsh thrown in for character. The tables are quaint but if you get there before 7, everything is relatively quiet. Summers are perfect for the outdoor tables and people watching."

  • "We dined on Halloween and it was quite a treat. The homemade pasta was as good as I've ever had. We will return to work our way through these delectable combinations of pasta with mushrooms, shellfish, duck, and much more."

  • "It looks and feels like a great neighborhood place, but the food and service are on a par with anything across the river and, in fact, across the ocean. Food was authentic and outstanding - don't miss the charcuterie with fried dough and the pastas. The wine list was fairly priced and had plenty to chose from, especially from the Piedmont - one of the few places in the City where you could order FranciaCorta."

  • "While this restaurant certainly looks the part, it falls quite short on the most important thing THE FOOD. Found it to be quite bland and really uninspiring. You could do worse, but I'm quite sure you can also do much better and would advise looking elsewhere for Italian dining. Serve was adequate, the wine was sadly the best part of the meal. Overall just a quirky meal."
