Diner Reviews
  • "My wife and I had a lovely dinner here, and look forward to bringing more people back to try the tasting menu."

  • "I visit this restaurant once a year for a family member's birthday and every tim the service from start to finish and end to end is phenomenal. The food is wonderful, the waitstaff is friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere makes this restaurant absolute gem of the proliferation of New York Italian places. Usually the service is top notch. On my most recent visit our server was rather cool and indifferent throughout the meal and could find no way for an undecided member of our party to place an order slightly later than the rest of the group. Inconvenient for the server, sure but when you're spending 3 or 400 dollars on dinner you don't like to feel rushed."

  • "For a great night out, you can't go past Locanda Vini e Olii. Full disclosure, I live around the corner, so I find myself there at least weekly and it never fails to impress. The food is fresh and delicious - traditional Tuscan style, the service impeccable and it's in the cutest old drug store on the planet. It's always going to be a 5 out of 5 from me."

  • "A beautiful old pharmacy, now a lovely restaurant setting. Good food - we had duck and pasta. Great appetizers - chicken livers and a nice salad. Delicious bread pudding for dessert. Drinks were good. The waiter was kind of brusque - maybe he thought it was funny. I didn't. Kind of inappropriate for such a nice place. But still worth the trip."

  • "Locanda Vini e Olii has a lot of great things going for it: the restaurant is housed in a unique space that retains a lot of character and interesting elements; with high ceilings and a good use of mirrors, it feels spacious inside; also, the food is very good and offers unique plates many people may not have encountered before. But the service is downright infuriating. We were greeted warmly & quickly when we arrived, but things quickly went south from there. Perhaps due to it being a Saturday night, but it often felt like we were neglected & forgotten. No checks on how the food was, no offers of more wine, tons of staff hurrying past the table but not even trying to clear our plates, and we had to hunt down a server to get our check."

  • "Always beyond standards! Food is seriously delicious and ambience is great. Love this place. "

  • "Live in the area, never been before. If I had to guess I'd venture that the two waiters had an interest in the place - they were both very knowledgeable of the menu and moved efficiently within the room. The tripe was excellent (serious portions, and I'm something of a gourmand), the duck, however, was a little tough. I plan on going back to try some new parts of the menu."

  • "great meal, food excellent, a little hard to hear your tablemates as it is very noisy "

  • "Ever since I first went to Locanda Vini e Olii 5 years ago, I have dreamed about their tomato and bread soup. Their food tastes like it has been cooked with more love than can fit in the kitchen. I would highly recommend this restaurant to any foodie who wants a quiet meal and to enjoy the best of Brooklyn!!"

  • "We had a wonderful time. Great light northern Italian food available, good wines and a great original space"
    Dined on 5/30/2014
  • "The food is exceptional, authentic, Northern Italian but the dining experience is undermined by the lack of waitstaff serving the always full restaurant. We saw only two waiters on the floor, occasionally aided by the host, hustling the tables so that service was brusque and frenetic. If one is looking for a relaxed dining experience, this is not the place."

  • "I always drove past this place and the exterior looked cute - on the inside, the decor is so charming and incredible, and the food was delicious and interesting. I'll be back soon!"

  • "Absolutely wonderful. Food was delicious and authentic. Sardines in Soar was as good as when I had it in Venice - perhaps even better. Everyone in our group raved about their food. Great wines. Great desserts. Best food we've had in a long time, and we eat out a lot."

  • "The service was inattentive, unenthused. Granted the restaurant was very busy, but if our server had been a little bit apologetic about the slowness, all would have been forgiven. The food varied in quality. The Branzino was excellent, a pasta dish was lackluster, and another was totally bland– like eating chewy cardboard covered in a grayish, flavorless sauce. Considering this is Italian food and expensive at that, I'd expect something with a few more dimensions than a box of grocery store pasta and canned sauce. Too bad, we were expecting a better experience given the personal recommendations of friends. But hey, great wine recommendation. Off night? Unsure. But much too far off the mark for the price to return. "

  • "We've been coming here for over 10 years, and it's always a pleasure. From the amazing charcuterie, to the homemade pasta, to the delicious main courses, everything is worth trying. The anchovies on toast were terrific. The black pepper pici pasta is one of my faves. And the desserts are no less delectable, especially the sachertorte and the pannetone bread pudding with fruit."

  • "Food was very good - authentic Italian. Would have been a much more pleasant experience if there were less tables (very close to each other) and less noise. Very difficult to relax and enjoy the meal because you are practically in the conversation of the person next to you. Would highly recommend a table or two less - would reduce the noise level"

  • "The servers were very rude and pushy. We were a party of 6 and ordered the tasting menu with wine pairings. The wine was fine but the food was uninteresting and none of the ingredients tasted particularly fresh or well-prepared. For comparably priced Italian in the neighborhood, I would suggest Romans instead."

  • "An exceptional restaurant matched by its very special ambiance. It's one of those places that you almost don't want to recommend as you want to keep it for yourself. "
    Dined on 5/2/2014
  • "The space, a former drug store, with some of the furnishings adapted, it is a tight space but friendly and lively--but a conversation is possible. The food excels. Inventive, rich and tasty Italian food. One could be in the South of Italy local restaurant known for grandma's best dishes."

  • "We're lucky enough to live just around the corner from Locanda, but it's well worth a trip. Excellent food, friendly service, a marvelous experience from beginning to end."

  • "Food is OUTSTANDING and truly Italian. But alas the environment is nothing like I've experienced in Italy. On a busy weekend evening, diners are packed in like sardines. Everyone's shouting in an attempt to be heard over everyone else. A scrum of hungry people waiting for a table spill into the dining room, because there's nowhere else to stand. We ate as quickly as possible and beat it out of there. Will return on a weeknight, unfashionably early, so we can better enjoy the fabulous cooking and intriguing cocktail selection."

  • "I love everything about this place. Food is excellent, decor is amazing, service and ambience great. It is a v special place. And it is walking distance from my house and in a beautiful residential neighborhood."

  • "Risking the wrath of locals who might want to keep this one to themselves, we had the perfect experience; warm welcome, great service, delicious food. Everything exceeded expectations, including the Negronis, We just had a great night out and loved everything about this restaurant. When something is this good, we'll definitely be going back."

  • "My wife and I took our baby with us and the staff was very nice and accommodating. They found a place for us in the corner and made sure our baby is comfortable. We saw another couple that brought their daughter. Definitely kid friendly! Food is good but a bit on the salty side. The seafood stew was very good and would be our recommendation. Overall the food was good but not exceptional."

  • "This little restaurant was recommended by a friend who stumbled upon it in January. So happy she told me about it, as we wanted dinner before attending an event at the Barclay Center (within walking distance). The location - an old corner pharmacy - is so quaint. The staff was so friendly, knowledgeable and accomodating. We will definitely recommend this to others and hope to return in the future!"

  • "Noise level was oppressive, though open table might call it energetic. My wife's fish was ehh. There was no need for the music that only added to the noise level."

  • "Staff is great, makes you feel like your are a close friend. Food is always excellent, very reasonable prices for the quality of the food."

  • "Charming space -- a former pharmacy with just the right amount of the original cabinetry and decor retained and repurposed. Owners and staff are gracious, friendly and knowledgeable. Everyone in restaurant seemingly happy to be there and having a great time. Thoughtful, well-priced menu and wine list. The food was was well executed, simple and with slightly muted flavors. It also cooled very quickly because served on cold plates. None of this detracted from the pleasure of it, however, and I would go back without hesitation."

  • "EVERYTHING VERY WELL EXECUTED. SERVICE, SPOT ON, KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF. INTERESTING WINES. A VERY INTERESTING ROOM . UNHURRIED GREAT DINNER."

  • "Simple preparation of what are in essence peasant dishes. Simple preparation without a lot of cheese and garlic. A definite do again. Only complaint is service of the tasting menu seemed rushed We had a 6 o'clock seating and there was at least one more seating following. Service was efficient but friendly."

  • "I've been coming to Locanda for years and have had maybe one bad course in all of my dinners there. The wine list is very good and perhaps better than you might expect. It's a cool spot for a restaurant too (old pharmacy, original sign, discreet), but cute locations can mean over-hyped reputatiosn and mediocre food; not so here though, which makes it even more enjoyable. Plus it's far enough away from BAM and Barclays that it will remain a neighborhood restaurant filled with neighbors and their friends, which is a plus."

  • "And was intrigued with the fact that it had been a Pharmacy and that they had held on to the original aspects of the former for the restaurant. I was very surprised to find out that this hidden Brooklyn gem had been in business for 13 years. My friends who are foodies really enjoyed it and as the non-foodie I was impressed by the ambiance."

  • "A very agreeable spot which retains many of the fixtures of the old-fashioned pharmacy once located here. The kitchen does some amazing things at reasonable prices and the wine list, affixed to bottles placed on the tables, abounds in good value. Staff both affable and helpful."

  • "The drinks were great and the atmosphere is fun, but the food was slightly underwhelming. It was a good meal, but too expensive, I think, for what it was."

  • "From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed by Michael, one of the owners, the service is caual but warm and attentive, the entire staff gives the feeling that they are only too happy to make your dining experience be a memorable one. The food is outstanding. We tried the Cauliflower soufflé antipasti, the sardine, pine nut & raisin pasta (primi) the braised pork & arugala and the Branzini & fennel ( secundi), finishing with two different salads ( which by then we were too full to do justice to, so asked to take them home) - every dish was superb. We loved the place and will go back , hopefully, again and again!"

  • "The ambiance and experience are outstanding. As for the food, certain dishes are outstanding, certain merely very good. All in all one of the more pleasant meals to be had in Brooklyn."
