Diner Reviews
  • "The restaurant is beautiful and service is nice. We tried pasta and it was excellent. Maybe the amount of food was a bit short but it was ok for dinner. The desserts are amazing! Is a bit expensive but totally worth the price"

  • "Food was excellent and service also great. Can't wait to try dinner."

  • "This was overall a solid very good. So if a solid "very good" isn't worth $600 (including tax, tip and alcohol but not dessert) for dinner for four then this isn't your place. I'm not totally sure i'll go back but I enjoyed the food and the experience. The service, which seemed to be the focus of many of the negative comments, was actually quite good. The ambience was lovely. The portions are small but we ordered a lot of food (a crostini, 4 primo, 2 pastas and 4 secondi) and we were too stuffed to consider dessert. Because it was my birthday, however, they brought us a slice of cake with a candle in it which was very nice."

  • "As the lunch crowd was dwindling, we were unrushed, and totally catered to. It was one of those steamy days in NY, so I wanted to eat light. The insalate d'Andrea was perfect...and sharing the delicious ricotta was brilliant. I never would have lingered so long during a busier time, but so appreciated the chance to catch up with a rarely seen friend."

  • "Food was ok and probably not worth the price. I wouldn't return."

  • "Blue Crab Crostini was very special and Duck Terrina was delicious! The Branzino with Rock Shrimp was melt in your mouth. Will find another time soon to go downtown."

  • "First time eating here after trying To get a reservation many times without success. The food was great and we had a really nice time! Great atmosphere, lively, good service, and very tasty food. Highly recommended for a great meal out anytime!"

  • "My husband and I go to Locanda Verde most Saturdays for brunch with our twin toddlers and we are treated like VIPs - the food is delicious and inventive and it pleases all 4 of us."

  • "Another special evening at Locanda Verde. Staff was outstanding and the food simply amazing. Simply the best Italian in the City."

  • "I took a date here based on someones recommendation and I was pleasantly surprised with how good the food was. I absolutely recommend the Sheeps Milk Crostini and the Lamb."

  • "I have brunched here twice with my son and family which includes my energetic 3 year old granddaughter. Food very good and above the normal brunch fare. Service excellent and they are nice to children. I especially loved the strawberry pop tart and the best gelato so creamy and smooth. The lemon pancakes were all our favorites. Now on my list of favorite brunch places. But make sure you call for reservations early"

  • "Recommend: Sheep's Milk Ricotta, Uova Modenese. If you want to go when it is quieter go for breakfast or brunch, but expect it to be crowded. no matter what. It is just that good and it's no secret. The food is great and the look of the place is very appealing especially with all the plants at the front door to welcome you. Outside seating is also available. There is a "to go" bar inside that is very popular in the mornings."

  • "We had the best lamb ever! Thank you for that. Everything was just perfect!"

  • "We are locals and have been here many times. Although the women who guard the front desk can be pretty intimidating, the service used to be accommodating. Now it's anything but. Despite an emergency that made one of our guests late, the hostesses made the other three members of our party wait at the bar. When we were seated, we were told what time we had to give up our table (and we did have a reservation, so I don't get that one at all.) Also, we wanted to order some crostini first while we figured out our order, but they insisted we order everything at once. The waiter was, generally speaking, inattentive and unfriendly. The food's less exciting, its pleasures perhaps lost in the chilly, inflexible atmosphere. Buh-bye."

  • "Took my son there and we enjoyed the steak tartar and shrimp. Had to order extra bread to soak up the sauces etc. They now offer fresh squeezed veggie drinks that were delicious and refreshing."

  • "Had lunch here on a holiday weekend. I've dined here previously for both lunch and dinner and enjoyed it much more. Was seated in the front of the restaurant and have to say the foot traffic going to the coffee counter was ridiculously distracting. And our service was not very good this day and it was a late lunch but still busy. The food is delicious however, love their goat milk ricotta and bread and all their pastas are deliciously appealing. I'd return with some prodding."

  • "I had lunch and the meal was very good. The taste and ambience in the restaurant was incredible. The only slight disadvantage was the small serving sizes, but the taste of the food was wonderful."

  • "Booked this for the last night of our trip (from Halifax, NS). Love the look, and the menu had a nice, reasonably priced selection. I'd have enjoyed if there were more mid-range wines to choose from, however, to match the food prices. We were put off by the staff. In such a bright, aesthetically pleasing restaurant, no one seemed happy to be there. The staff seemed judgmental - as though they felt we weren't qualified to visit- and I don't think I saw a single one of them smile. I understand the idea of maintaining a classy reputation, but to do so you don't need to be a snob. We had a much better experience at the uptown bagel mart we visited!! The food was quite good, but we left as quickly as we could."

  • "My husband and I went for our anniversary and were a bit disappointed that our dinner was OK but not amazing. We had the steak tartare, the girandole with spring peas, speck, and ramps, and the duck. The first two were really good and nicely presented, but the duck was a bit disappointing. The spice rub was very good, but the duck was cooked medium (we prefer medium rare, and no one had asked for a temperature), the skin wasn't crispy at all, and my husband wasn't a fan of the cherry sauce (although I thought it was OK). The grain salad that accompanied the dish was also really oversalted. We also ordered two rounds of cocktails, and found one of them so sweet and syrupy as to be undrinkable, although the rest were delicious."

  • "The food was not bad, not great, but ok. I'm not sure about why all of the accolades have been placed here."

  • "I appreciated everything, the food was great, I ate a wonderful steak, an unforgettable ravioli but I must say I was really impressed by the kindness of the waiter who took care of us, Marcus. He knew everything about wines, about the specials of the day, made everything to let me comfortable! I am brazilian and all I can say is that when I visit NYC again I will return to Locanda Verde, for sure!"

  • "Recently had lunch at Locanda Verde, what an experience, the food service and overall ambiance were all fantastic. My lunch partner is from the culinary world...needless to say she gave my choice of eatery a big respectful thumbs up!!!! A definite new spot for me and my guests."

  • "Went for dinner. The food wasn't bad. Service was a bit crazy. When I asked for some of the crostini (offered on top of the menu before appetizers) to go with our drinks before ordering I was told that our order had to be taken all at once (rules of the kitchen??) and that was impossible. Service just went down from there. Just a mess...ordering drinks and extras from the young lady who poured our water, being served backwards and a basically absentee waiter. I won't be back. "

  • "This isn't your usual Italian place. It has the fare you expect on the menu, but the preparation is outside the box. Check it out, you'll like it! Desserts leave something to be desired, though."

  • "Our first meal here was amazing and earned Locanda Verde a place high on our future dining destination list during our frequent visits to the area. Something happened to the food since our dinner last fall. With so many places to choose from in TriBeCa and BPC it will probably be some time before we come back considering the price of a typical meal versus the success of same. We will watch future reviews for some hint that success has returned or that our less than satisfactory experience was one of bad timing. This was a destination restaurant but it needs to perform with greater consistency to compliment its superior service and atmosphere."

  • "The atmosphere and taste of food were perfect but way too much expensive for the tiny portion of food we got, the main courses had the size of appetizers"

  • "nice experience, great people (reservation, serving)"

  • "Service was way too slow. So inefficient, and they had surplus wait staff plus an uncrowded restaurant. I can't imagine how long I had to wait if it was busy."

  • "So yummy! Everything we ordered was fabulous. We started with the sheep's milk ricotta, so fresh and rich. We also had the lamb sliders, which were very good. Both pasta dishes were ordered were incredible and the dessert was just as good! Highly recommended. "

  • "Really great brunch place and right around the corner from me! Great location; it is steps from the water. The Sheep's Milk Ricotta appetizer was amazing; each bite had an array of flavors: sweet, salty, and tangy. I had the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes which were light and fluffy. It had the perfect tartness/citrus taste to it. Everything was divine. Definitely making this my weekly brunch spot. "

  • "Everything we had was amazing - the crostini with ricotta and truffle honey, the spinich and leek fritata, and the mimosas. Great space for a casual brunch or a party!"

  • "Friendly, extremely knowledgeable service. A great menu, skillfully executed. Terrific wine list and cocktail offerings. One comment: do not come here for quiet, intimate conversation. The decibel level is somewhere between a jet engine at takeoff and a Rangers game. But that's simply a by-product of the well-deserved popularity of the place. Looking forward to dining there again."

  • "I went for lunch. The service was excellent, food very good, my only criticisms are that the tables were too close together in the dining room and the seats in the bar weren't comfortable. Otherwise I had a very good experience."

  • "Love the place, love the food. Sheep's milk ricotta is to die for!! I brought my mom here so she could try it (bc it was necessary for a fellow bread n cheese lover), and she was sold :) The ricotta is so creamy and smooth...more like goat cheese-meets-yogurt, really. The bread was burnt so we asked for replacement bread; the server was super nice about it, told us to keep what we had for the moment and said she would bring us more bread. Lamb meatball sliders are my other fave, but I wish there were 3 in the app, instead of 2. Spinach was perfect. Eggplant sammie was VERY heavy, not my stilo anyway, but thick bread, breaded eggplant, creamy spiced mayo, and nothing to cut through it...no bueno. Still one of my fave places though, always! "
