Diner Reviews
  • "I live in Marina del Rey and am very glad that we have this wonderful restaurant here."
    Dined on 4/12/2014
  • "Nice cozy place, but the food was not good. My chicken was served red raw in the middle, and my artichoke salad had a lot of water in it.will never go back.,"
    Dined on 4/12/2014
  • "We live in the Marina and heard about this place. The food is fresh and authentic. It was quaint and quiet. Perfect for a nice dinner. The only drawback would be the size. It is has a very small dining room that can feel a bit cramped. We will definitely be back though."

  • "I'd spotted this little Italian restaurant on Lincoln Blvd. as we sped up and down that street so confused by the variety of retail establishments. I couldn't even remember the name but went to Open Table to see if I could find it and lo and behold...there it was, Locanda Positano. We went with another couple. I requested a quiet table and we were taken to a back wine room that was indeed quiet. Everybody loved their food choices. I had two appetizers, an excellent Caprese salad and a special seasonal polenta with porcini mushrooms and shaved truffles. I can still taste the divine blending of flavors now. We would definitely return!"

  • "We just love this little neighborhood spot. It feels like being in a small restaurant in Italy. The food and the service are outstanding. My family will be returning to this spot for years to come. It's the perfect place to get away for a quiet, delicious dinner."

  • "We had another delicious meal at Locanda. This time, we treated our family members and they really enjoyed the experience. We will keep coming back!"

  • "Our first time at Locanda Positano was lovely but didn't blow me away. It is authentic Italian, everything was fresh but nothing really stood out. I had the Linguini Positano which, bearing the house name I expected it to be a notable dish but was just ... ehhh. The calamari was light and fresh, burratta was also yummy and my husband's short ribs were fine. Again, nothing was bad but nothing super memorable. The tiramisu was nice but I've had better. My rating would be higher if the prices were lower but it was $$$ for just a nice meal."

  • "No doubt - great food - perfect fried calamari and all pasta dishes were perfect, especially the papardelle with wild boar ragu - divine!"

  • "The food was very authentic. I really did feel like I was in a restaurant in Italy."

  • "The food, service, and ambience were excellent, but the restaurant was cramped. The tables were packed really tight."

  • "We've been to Locanda Positano for many years. They serve consistently great food. We found out tonight that they opened up a new room in the rear of the restaurant. The new room is not as cozy, but the it's very nice (more modern italian). The food is equally good. The service was good."

  • "In this small restaurant the food is always good but the main dishes portions are small and overpriced for the location. Almost all main courses are priced in the low to mid $30. The pasta dishes and the lamb are excellent."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "Neighborhood gem with wonderful service even though we came in as the last customers of the night. all dishes we ordered were excellent--wild boar osso bucco, truffle pasta, mussels and clams, and calamari and zucchini. Italian wine list was extensive."

  • "We have dined at LP for the last four years, and are never disappointed! The food is always amazing, and the service is friendly, and attentive. Thank you Paolo and staff for yet another delicious meal at LP!"
    Dined on 3/4/2014
  • "Simply stated...You will not be disappointed. I have been here over 20 times and it is consistently great with the big 3's. Food, ambience, and service. And neighbor tables exclaiming, "this is incredible" after they are done chewing speaks for itself."

  • "This place has become one of our LA favorites. It is very small, only about 12 tables, but he food is excellent and the menu contains a nice variety of choices. The service is professional and lacks the "I'm your new best friend" false attitude of so many places. The server is knowledgable and accommodating but not hovering. You can set your own pace and enjoy your meal and your companions. Because it is small it can get a bit loud, but not so much that you can't have a conversation."

  • "Great little neighborhood Italian on busy Lincoln! No worries they have valet parking. Food is great, nice wine list. Excellent list of specials in addition to great menu! Lobster ravioli and Branzino were excellent the night we were there!"

  • "Thje restaurant is very small and has a charm all it's own. Food and service excellent. A welcome departure from most large, hectic others."

  • "Restaurant is pretty small. It would fit maybe 15-20 people in it. The food is really good and well made. Very good choice of wines to choose from. We got the truffle tasting menu and it was fantastic. Ravioli and pasta were both perfectly cooked. Sauces were very well flavored and not too heavy."

  • "We belatedly celebrated Valentine's Day with dinner at the consistently spectacular Locanda Positano. This is a tiny establishment, and very popular, so don't expect to just drop in on a whim. But if you plan ahead, you will enjoy a really lovely evening. They have an impressive wine selection, as one might expect. We both were tempted by several of the specials, but in the end opted for a meal we've had on previous occasions: the burrata alla caprese salad followed by the pappardelle al cinghiale (homemade pasta with a wild boar sauce). Both are wonderful. Yes, the prices are a bit higher than what you'll find at some other local restaurants, but entirely justified by the quality. This may be the best Italian restaurant in LA!"

  • "We tried this place for V-day and were happy to find great authentic italian food matched by equally excellent service. The only con is the pricey wine. While the wine selection itself is great (Italian imports) most are about 15$/glass. After we came back I checked the price of the bottle for the wine we had and loved (Bastianich Adriatico Sauvignon 2011) and the cost of a glass of wine here was more than the cost of the bottle itself. So the price classification of this place on OpenTable is misleading. I would put this place around 50$-75$ per person if you include wine as opposed to 30$ per person classification that OpenTable gives it."

  • "Food was tasty but found serval thorns in my sea bass plate that had me looking for them."

  • "Killer, secret gem....food, service, and owners always on hand and out to please...expanding now so even more can enjoy."
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "Once again, we enjoyed our delicious Italian meal at Locanda. The pre-Valentine crowd made it a bit less intimate and the service a bit lacking, but overall, we enjoyed our dining experience, as usual. The lasagna was outstanding!"

  • "Just like being in a small Ristorante in Italy. Great wine list and terrific food. The Tuscan bread was crusty and light. The Insalata Carciofi was crunchy and well falvored paired with Arugula and Slices of Parmesan. The Chicken was rolled with Prosciutto and vegetables on abed of creamy potatoes. I will be back."

  • "Do you want to experience true Italian cuisine? Then this is for you! Dining here takes you to Italy. You forget that that the restaurant is on a very busy urban street! Once inside, you are transported to a cozy cafe in Italy! The owner/ chef provides a good variety of local Iralian wines that transport you back to your Italian vacations. The food is truly Italian, not the Americanized version. Try their daily specials which include fresh seasonal ingrediants! Delicious!!"

  • "The only critique is the closeness of tables for 2 That can't be helped - it's part of the charm. If you have a Loud, constant talker at the next table..."

  • "This is the place we take friends who want authentic Italian cuisine. Always good. Reservations a must. Small, but that's part of the charm."

  • "The Frittur Calamari was very good with an interesting, but not awe-inspiring sauce. My Tagliatelle Rock Shrimp and Baby Artichokes was also very good, but I thought the pasta was a bit overcooked, My wife had the Rigatoni Short Ribs and she said if was again very good (I thought so too). All in all, the place is very small and it was essential to have a reservation. Prices are a bit high (food fare and spirits), but then again, it was crowded and there were many people waiting for a table and some left after waiting 10 minutes or so. Doest this mean it's a real hot spot??? I'd go back."

  • "We continue to return to this authentic Italian restaurant. The quality and taste of the food is a highlight. We will keep coming back for normal dining as well as special occasions. Highly recommended."

  • "The food quality is tops - had leg of lam and sea-bass as main courses and both were great as were the appetizers. The only negative is the small size of the restaurant and the tables being very close to each other which makes it very noise."

  • "We found this place by the reviews on Open Table. Don't come here for the beautiful view or ambiance. Restaurant is one room, very small. Some people seemed to be having intimate dinners for two, and were very content. We were with a group for a family celebration, so we felt out of place. The restaurant cannot prepare anything "special," just literally what is on the menu. But what we ordered was delicious - pastas, chicken, prosciutto, calamari. Everything was top notch. Just need the service to be a little more warm and welcoming, but again, others seemed very content."

  • "A cute small restaurant that makes you really feel like you are in Italy, not to mention the food is amazing, and the staff is very kind! :) I will definitely visit the restaurant again!"

  • "We loved our first experience!! We had the fabulous burrata, the carpaccio, polenta, branzino and pappardelle. We ended with the tiramisu. The pappardelle was the standout dish! The waiter was super!! The only downside was we could hear everyone's conversations. Yet the food and service outweighed the only thing we could find that wasn't fabulous. We would definitely go back again!!"

  • "The menu is so inviting that it's a challenge to decide on what to order. I chose the truffle pasta that had a cream sauce..and it was a bit salty though. The bread is crusty and delicious dipped in one of the three flavored olive oils that is served. The radicchio, arugula pear salad was fabulous and a little tart with the vinegar - though a perfect way to start the meal. And the perfect end to a fabulous meal was the lemon sorbet that was graced with limencello...YUM."

  • "Went for a birthday celebration and we weren't disappointed. The food and service were outstanding. The restaurant is small but the noise level was not bad overall. We had the scallops, carpaccio, and burrata caprese for appetizers, wild boar and linguini positano for our entrees and tiramisu and the lemon curd tart for dessert. Will definitely go back."

  • "Delicious. Well balanced. Locally sourced of freshly imported from italia. Like I'm back in NY. Third "date night" visit. Will come again. We ordered three specials and devoured them. Buffalo mozzarella with speck, Osso Buco and Polenta with black truffle."

  • "The food is the best Italian food I've had on the west side. The atmosphere is cozy and charming - but the acoustics are terrible. 8 Pm on a Tuesday eve and I couldn't hear my dinner partner at a small corner table for 2."
