Local Seasonal KitchenEpitome of Class!Local Seasonal Kitchen is a dining experience you will never forget. Food is sublime!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOver ratedThis is my second visit to this restaurant. Everyone raves about this restaurant, but I was not impressed either time. The ambiance is very nice and the service is great, but the food was not very inspiring. Both nights I started with a salad. Each night it was a different salad, but neither one appeared to have any dressing. They were flavorless. For my main corse I ordered salmon, which was prepared undercooked which is the way I like it. However, the vegetables were very disappointing. The pearl onions were undercooked and the broccoli florets were burnt and mushy. None of the vegetables had any flavor. I don't think the chep uses any spices at all...or at least that is the way the food tastes. Nothing to excite the palate.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious! Innovative! WillDelicious! Innovative! Will definitely go back soon.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent all aroundLocal is excellent all around and what you would expect from a well established (and decorated) Chef. Mouth watering selection of apps and entrees, exciting creative combinations (with a hints of down-home familiarity and comfort) that draw inspiration from local farms.
Dessert options are awesome and creative - you need to keep coming back to try them all - overal Local is a North Jersey Gem hidden in Ramsey.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMNice restaurant, small portionsGreat restaurant, focus on local products with emphasis on seasonality. Liked the use of herbs in the dishes we had, hints of fennel, rosemary, etc. Prices are high which is fine for the quality, however the portions are small. My short rib dish could have been at least 50% larger, which would have made it right for the price, and satisfying as a meal. And I'm not a fattie either, 5'11" 165 lbs.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent, don't miss out on Local!Food and service were great, everything we had was delicious. Don't let the fact it is in a strip mall fool you, once you are inside you'll never know the difference and the food is amazing.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Food, at least! The menu was wonderful, and rounded out with the specials that were offered. The atmosphere was homey, but the noise level was very high. We could barely hear each other throughout the night. It took us an hour to get our first course. They also served our red wine in the traditional white wine glasses, and white in the red wine glasses - go figure! Though all of this, the food was wonderful and imaginative and we will return to try again.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMQuite a nice place for theQuite a nice place for the suburbs. Bread seemed to be made on premises and fresh. Well thought out and executed dishes. Save room for dessert!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMNeighborhood GemHard to get a reservation, but when you do you feel elitist . Local lives up to that reputation The location is deceiving, in an old strip mall, however, step inside and itis vibrant, little loud but electric and the food so interesting. At first we were a little taken back because we barely understood the menu, never heard of most of the ingredients. Our waitress was very helpful and answered our many questions. I would like to tell you what i ate but i cant remember the proper names. My appetizer was a large ravioli with and egg inside, unbelievable! My entree was braised lamb with pasta, so delicious. I have already made another reservation to share this experience with my friends.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMInterestingInteresting food, beautiful presentations.
Great for special occasions.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways great food and serviceI have been here many time now and it continues to impress me, along with whoever I bring.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentLocal is an excellent addition to the town of Ramsey. Our meal was fantastic!!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat new placeAte here in a group of four, and everyone walked away extremely happy. From appetizers to dessert, the food was excellent, and the service was attentive and informative. Will definitely return.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMService was excellent andService was excellent and the food was devine! It is an eclectic menu with something for everyone. I have never tasted fresher food! I had the sea bream and it was seasoned to perfection. The fresh spices allowed for the natural flavors to come through. It was a wonderful evening!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWelcome addition to North Jersey! The best new restaurant to hit North Jersey in years. Service is exceptional as is the food. You won't be disappointed.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMOnly negative...if you haveOnly negative...if you have a food llergy and make your server aware...the kitchen doesn't necessarily pay attention to the notes on your food ticket. Just be careful. Everything else was fantastic!!!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMSome of the best food I'veSome of the best food I've ever eaten--the halibut was sublime.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMRhefflived up to our high expectations. Its in a strip mall but the ambience is great. Food and service were outstanding and value is there due to their location and fact its a Byob. We are going back. Best to go on a weekday evening as Saturdays are booked out at least a monthl4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMA fabulous addition to theA fabulous addition to the Bergen County restaurant scene - delicious, creative menu and terrific service! And love the fact that so much of the food is locally sourced. We will be going back very soon!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMI'd heard about this placeI'd heard about this place mostly through Facebook and we decided to try it early on a Saturday night. We brought our infant daughter with us and found out upon our arrival that they didn't have high chairs (so it's not a baby/kid friendly place) but we were able to get seated at a booth with her in her carseat. The food was PHENOMENAL! We tried a crudo trio appetizer special and the pork belly (order it!) and my husband got the grassfed steak while I got the short ribs. We both cleaned our plates. I got the budino for dessert while he got the cookie sampler, both of which were excellent. Service was immaculate all around. It's definitely pricey ($175 for dinner - 2 apps, 2 entrees, 2 desserts including tip) but worth the splurge!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe now have dined at LocalWe now have dined at Local five times so with confidence born of consistency I can say this has become the smart, delicious trendy spot that has been sorely lacking in Northern New Jersey. Every dish we've had has been inspired. Our last visit was for a tasting of my wine club. We had a seven-course tasting menu that was the bargain of the century at $89. Service was impeccable, and Chef Santoro presented dish after dish featuring wholesome ingredients put together in a way that brings a smile to your face. Congratulations, and we will be back often.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMEven though this was in aEven though this was in a little strip mall, its a great find in Bergen County- I loved the concept of this restaurant- great menu of local and seasonal food. I'm still remembering the "buratina" appetizer ...wow! Our server was knowledgeable and very accommodating. She mentioned that everyone works in the kitchen one day a week, so they get a feel for how things are made, etc. Would definitely go back and recommend.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had the steamed clams andWe had the steamed clams and Maine Mussels with savory broth, chorizo and beans, very tasty. The pappardelle with Hudson Valley Duck and sea scallops were both excellent. We like the idea you can get a half order of pasta if you are not that hungry. The service is knowledgeable and friendly. It does not matter Local is in a strip mall once you enter and see what a beautiful restaurant this is. Enjoy the fresh local food and you will be glad you are dining at Local Seasonal Kitchen. Make sure you make reservations or else you might not find a table available - that is how popular Locals is rapidly becoming.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThoroughly enjoyed this relativelyThoroughly enjoyed this relatively new restaurant in the area. We were five ladies and each one of us was impressed by every aspect of the restaurant. The food was outstanding, service was impeccable and the ambiance contributed to our wonderful evening.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner and service were excellent!Dinner and service were excellent! Will definitely recommend to friends, and look forward to dining here again.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic!!! The food is amazing!!!Fantastic!!! The food is amazing!!! Just curious about reservations though, if no one takes the 5:45 for 8 people... Is it open at 7? Hard to get reservations. Noticed the big table open until 9.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOften when I go to a highlyOften when I go to a highly rated restaurant I am disappointed - high expectations. I WAS NOT disappointed. This is one of the best restaurants I've been to in NJ - probably one of the best even compared to top name NYC restaurants. Too bad they don't have a liquor license. Food was great, menu interesting and service was wonderful.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden Gem!Great food in a hidden gem in Ramsey. Hard to get reservations right now. The food presentation is fantastic as well.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMNice atmosphere once you getNice atmosphere once you get inside. there are 2 seating areas that can be made a little private with a curtain. Good for a group of 8. Restaurant is in a strip mall. Service was excellent. Food was very good but a bit pricey for the neighborhood. It is a BYOB which makes the price a little better. Expect to pay about $100 for 2.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was delicious!!Everything was delicious!! We'll definitely be back!4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMReally nice place. I agreeReally nice place. I agree with another review that said, "Don't be confused by strip mall location."4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBest New Restaurant in NJWhat a treat to find a high-quility, new restaurant in Northern NJ with terrific food, service, and a varied menu that rivals the best restaurants in NYC. Do not be fooled by its location within a small, non-descript strip retail center in Ramsey NJ. Once one reads the bio on the owner and chef you then will understand why this restaurant will be ranked as one of the best NJ restaurants in NJ for those who appreciate excellent food with a professional presentation. In addition, being a BYOB helps keep the costs reasonable.
We definitely will be back again & again!4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMA Restaurant For All SeasonsEverything was pleasurable, from the food to the service to the ambience. We felt like we were in someone's home. Our previous visit, we felt the wait staff was hovering and tense to some extent, but there was neither of these distractions this time.
Even the care for my 88-year old mother, who is unsteady on her feet, was caring and professional , as Mike, the Manager, helped her both in and out of the restaurant with total graciousness.
We look forward to the seasonal changes in the menu that are coming!4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant is beyondThis restaurant is beyond outstanding. The menu is varied and expertly prepared. Service is impeccable. The management honored my request for table location and the wait staff was knowledgable and courteous. A wonderful dining experience, my husband and I will definitely make this our favorite place to dine.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMService is a bit rushed, asService is a bit rushed, as mentioned by others in their reviews. Once ordered, courses came out way to quickly, barely finished with one before the other was being brought to the table.
Still, remarkably smooth for a new operation.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMearly seasonal saturday5:15 sat. seating...overall excellent seasonally fresh food.....pork belly and ricotta gnudi apps. were great......I had the squid ink pasta and shrimp special, wonderfully cooked but, flavors were a little subtle for my palate, and my date loved the short rib entree, but I found the meat again a tad underwhelming in the taste department, not as succulent as expected.....dessert was outstanding I had their take on pot de creme take and my date loved the cheese plate......the service was friendly, caring and knowledgeable, if at times mildly lacking attentiveness. NYC prices but, the bring your own really evens things out......will look forward to trying it again!!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentI could not have been more impressed. Both with the food and with the service. Michael, the General Manager in particular was most impressive.Very rare that I look forward to returning anywhere, but this is one place I will look forward to.Andrew Ramsden4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMUnpretentious treasure in RamseyWow! We had heard great things about Local and had high expectations and no one was disappointed . We were a group of 4 and there was a good deal of sharing !The food was fabulous! Unlike most restaurants of this caliber the portions were generous. My truffle ravioli appetizer was delicious as were the avocado offering on the menu and the crab appitizer special. I had the short ribs and they were perfection on a plate, my husband's had the halibut and it was delicious. The desserts were incredible the chocolate pave was my selection and completely worth the calories! Chef Steven and wife Joan, thank you for such a memorable dining experience. Local deserves the rave reviews that are spreading like wildfire... It is just fabulous!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMSecond time I've been there.Second time I've been there. It is truly delicious, so glad to have a neighborhood place where you can get such a great dining experience.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is the real deal.GetThis is the real deal.Get there.
Fresh, delicous, inovative cuisine.
I think we are talking about one of the new best restaurants North Jersey has to offer.
Can't wait to go back!4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMLSK: 8 wks old and THIS GREAT?Friend suggested LSK, even though it is 50 minute drive. Went last night and we were WOWED. Beautiful atmosphere, comfortable yet a high end feel. Acoustics were beautiful, yet sound deadening, which was great. Every dish was wonderful. We had: Tuna Poke: Melt in your mouth Tuna. Scary delicious. Raviolio: OMG Light and fluffy, if that is even possible. Paperadelle with Duck was "the weakest link" YET delicious. Suckling pig special: Wonderful. Short Ribs: Stunningly delicious. Chocolate cake: Seriously OMG. 1 of the best desserts I've ever had. Pineapple tart: Shockingly great, and I am not a fan of Pineapple. Had leftovers that we forget to take. Complex dishes and tough to decided because so many intriguing options. Loved LSK!!!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, working out the kinksOur second visit to this new restaurant, and we brought friends. The Egg Raviolo and Ribeye were hits. All the rest of the food was very very good and enjoyed by all. The farro dessert was mediocre, especially after the big build-up that it was a special for Easter. The service was better on our first visit when it was just two of us. Once we were at a table for 6, the service was less precise. The busboys clanked the silverware around on plates and tried to take plates before we were finished. We had to pour our own wine. Also, the bread needs improvement - there is a nice selection of three kinds but they could taste a lot better. The bread was not memorable and was only offered once - my friend had to ask for another piece.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe loved the food, serviceWe loved the food, service and atmosphere. The food tasted like it was so well planned and fresh. Dishes were very imaginative and different. I had the short ribs, which were very tender and delicious . My husband had the special whole wheat pasta with mushrooms and also loved it. We started with the spring salad which wasn't your typical greens but also had baby roasted root vegetables cooked to perfection. My husband practically licked the plate. We highly recommend this restaurant .the chef knows what he's doing, that's for sure. The service was impeccable . Go and experience this restaurant ! You won't be sorry!3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMBased on some of the openingBased on some of the opening press we went to Local Seasonal Kitchen with high expectations. We were not disappointed. Don't be deceived by the strip-mall locale. There is some serious dinning to be had inside. Upon entering the restaurant your greeted with a warmth in most restaurants usually reserved for regulars. A few steps inside and you begin to notice the care taken in the décor of the restaurant which is in keeping with its fresh, sophisticated approach to food. Throughout the meal the knowledgeable service was attentive without being fussy. The best part however was the food. The starters excellent, the housemade pastas sublime and the entres showing a depth of flavor and ingredients found only in the finest destination restaurants3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time to this neighborhoodFirst time to this neighborhood restaurant - food was excellent and we plan to return.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMlovely dining experience butlovely dining experience but food very fully priced3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFresh & FlavorfulExcellent and delectable appetizers and entrees. The food was tantalizing to look at and we ate every bit off of our plates! Small space so the tables are close together and somewhat noisy on a Saturday night. Food is a little pricey, but if you share an appetizer and a dessert it is reasonable. The food is great! We will be back again to try something new! BYOB3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMOnce you walk in you'll quicklyOnce you walk in you'll quickly forget that you are in a strip mall in suburban NJ. The food was outstanding and the service like no other in its class. Feels like a top NYC restaurant but without the $15 glass of wine. BYOB is great.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMTables tight. Not recommendedTables tight. Not recommended with children. Excellent food. Wait staff didn't rush us, able to savor dinner3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat new resturant! The foodGreat new resturant!
