Diner Reviews
  • "My wife and I enjoyed our first time to 'Eat at Local'. The food was excellent. Everyone was genuinely friendly. The place is large enough for groups yet cozy enough for a couple. The pricing was appropriate and the proportions certainly were filling. Overall it was a wonderful experience."

  • "This little spot has everything it should to be a great restaurant...except location. It's too nice for the strip center it's in & a bit out of the way from the happening area of Norman. That's probably why there were so few people there on a Friday night. Service was very accommodating & for the most part, the food was really good! Pricy but the quality & creativity was excellent. My only gripe is that it came out way too fast. We were still noshing on appetizers when salads came out & salad when the entrees came out. It definitely needed to be timed better. My suggestion is Do go there but order one thing at a time if you want a leisurely dinner. Great special occasion or date night spot."

  • "Amazing brunch... food was so fresh and good. I will keep going back!"

  • "We probably won't be going there again. My husband's salmon was overcooked. The portion was very small for the price and it was sitting on a huge bed of risotto that had a slight flavor of crab but no other seasonings. He was really disappointed. The salad with chicken, pecans, berries, ect.,was interesting but not wonderful. I wanted dressing on the side, my daughter expected to receive a normal stressing. She didn't get any. So I gave her mine. However, the corn chowder was excellent. The ambiance and gallery room were all really good ideas. Generally speaking, we were all so disappointed."

  • "Not sure why their fish isn't local (Oklahoma) fish. Do they really need crab and salmon from other places, when their fish could be bass or farmed catfish...? The fist tacos were just ok, served on corn tortillas which really kind of gum up the works for me, I prefer flour. The meatloaf was tasty, and the potatoes fantastic, but the green beans were undercooked. Great variety for a small menu. When I go back, and I hope to, I'll get the market salad and one of the daily specials. Next time I might bring the kids! The atmosphere was modern but comfortable, surprisingly big considering the storefront is in the corner of a strip mall."

  • "Went with a group of friends catching up. Everyone was amazed that this place was tucked away in Norman. The food was great and our service was good. We were surprised to find options for all kinds of different diets (vegan, gluten free, low-carb, etc.). Everyone was happy when we left! We were there early and it got a little louder as we left. There's a side room and some booths that probably would be protected from noise if that concerns you."

  • "When I travel to Norman this is where I go for my favorite dinner. Fresh, healthier & creative menu. Friendly service."

  • "We had friends in town visiting, and decided to try Local for the first time. One of our party has a gluten allergy, and was impressed with the selection of gluten free items. The waitstaff was very friendly and attentive, but low-key. The fish tacos were so-so, but the risotto was amazing! They also had turkey lasagna, a treat for the non-red meat eater in our party. The spacious seating area allowed sufficient room between tables for a comfortable and intimate table conversation. We will certainly be back."

  • "On a whim my husband and I tried Local. We had a delightful experience. Since then when we have friends or family visiting from out of town, we recommend Local if they are looking for out of the ordinary food and great service."

  • "The restaraunt was great, great food, service, atmosphere but for a Friday evening at 7 pm it was kinda if empty which was weird. I'll definatley go back again."

  • "The green chili chowder is always wonderful. The peach and spinach salad was bland. The hibiscus jalepeno margarita is quite interesting. Give it a try!"

  • "We had a meeting schedule and were able to sit down and actually speak as a group with no children interrupting. Stellar service and VERY easy reservation process. This will be my hot spot for meetings from now on--a special treat for those invited to attend."

  • "The brunches at Local are the best and I am so glad that we went to Father's Day brunch. We have been to Mother's Day brunch for the past three years but we were unable to make it this year. The fact that Dad's ate free for Father's Day was an extra bonus."

  • "We went in for Father's day brunch and had a reserved table. After getting there we waited for about 10 minutes. After the wait, we were seated at a booth that was not even wiped down properly. My skirt felt wet as I sat down and we realized that there was water on the seats. The table was also wet and had water rings where the previous guests put their glass. Someone came down and wiped the table after we complained. Then the waitress came in and placed our food without asking if that is what we wanted. I am vegetarian and Local is supposed to be vegetarian friendly! Then there was a long wait before every course and the waitress hardly checked on us. I like this place for the food quality but may not go back for this kind of service."

  • "I was searching for a place to have supper before a show and found Local on Urbanspoon. It was fairly well reviewed, and we'd tried restaurants with similar themes before (locally sourced), so we were game to try this. We were not disappointed. The service was perfect: attentive enough to never let the glasses empty, but not hovering so much that we couldn't conduct a conversation. The food was divine, and if something wasn't available (not yet prepared - we were there early) or adjustments requested (my husband dislikes strawberries), suggestions came from the kitchen and were on point. We loved the 4-meat meatloaf & turkey lasagne. The truffle chips were delicious, & their signature dessert was divine. Dark chocolate, flourless, perfect."

  • "The restaurant was very well kept. Noise level was extremely quiet in the booth where we were seated. Opted for An Appetizer of bread and marinara sauce. Excellent choice. For the main course we selected the salmon on a rice pilaf and the 4 meat meatloaf with green beans. Both were well flavored and tasted excellent. The Dessert menu had many great selections but we opted for the gelato sundae. Another good choice for a wonderful evening. Overall I would recommend this restaurant highly."

  • "I rarely eat the same thing here, and love it. Creative, changing menus. My kids always love Localville, and my wife and I got a spontaneous "date" out of it. We love local"

  • "Not is the food delicious and service was so fast, like any good restaurant, but they best part is the healthy "local" choices they provide like its no big deal or bother. My wife, our four kids, and I really appreciate this! Plus, the best part for the kids is Localville...we play in there whether we need to or not. It's just fun. Love the food, atmosphere, and consideration of health. Thank you Local!"

  • "I took my Mom to Mother's Day Brunch at Local and everything was perfect. When we arrived for our reservation, we were immediatley taken to our table which had a scrumptious fruit/cheese/pastry plate waiting for us. We ordered a french press of my Mom's favorite locally roasted coffee, relaxed, and talked while the other two courses effortlessly appeared. They even gave my Mom a sweet potted plant when we were ready to leave. My Mom had a wonderful brunch and I looked like a hero for selecting such a cool place. Win- win!!!"

  • "We went here for Mother's Day brunch. In spite of the big crowd, the service was excellent, the food was very good, and the prices were reasonable. I really enjoyed the family style serving of the food, and we will definitely be back. I love the supervised play area for kids where they can be left while mom and dad dine."

  • "Found this gem on Yelp, looking for a foodie place that could accommodate a paleo eater. Everything was perfection: the appetizer of proscuitto-wrapped dates, and the main course of a small portion of the risotto of the day, were both wonderful. And the tea came with a tea timer to make sure I brewed it to the right strength. That kind of attention to detail was impressive! The ambience is very casual and I saw lots of families with kids. Nothing fancy, just good food, which is what matters in the end. Hope they're around a long, long time!"

  • "Our daughter, who is a student at the University of Oklahoma introduced us to Local a little over a year ago. We were in Norman to visit her and as usual had to feed her and her three roommates. She recommended local and I admit I was skeptical at best, she is a vegetarian and I really wasn't looking forward to having alfalfa sprouts and soy bean curd for brunch. Nothing could have been further from the truth, the brunch was excellent and so was everything else. Now, any time we go to Norman, Local is on the schedule of "must do". This past weekend we celebrated Easter at Local for the second year in a row and once again it was great! Once again, it was a great experience"

  • "Had Sunday lunch here. There were only 3 things on the menu. Portion sizes minute. I paid $6.95 for my daughter to eat 3 strawberries. Not kid friendly menu at all. Not impressed. Won't be going back. Just not the way I want to spend my money to dine out."

  • "Third time at Local. This time the food was good but not as great as the first two times. Looking forward to the summer menu."

  • "I want to like this place as I like to frequent locally-owned restaurants and love the concept of fresh and local foods. The staff is welcoming and helpful, however they always seem a bit disorganized. I make reservations and they seem surprised and in some cases seem taken aback even when your name is on the list. I like the drinks better than the food. I've eaten here a bit and find the offerings a bit stale and redundant. Last two times, nothing appealed to me from the regular menu or daily offerings. And I was a bit disappointed in my meals as the food was average at best. Ambiance is okay, but the noise factor is a bit much at times."

  • "Great food, great concept, strange location but would recommend this restaurant in a heartbeat. Appetizer: Smoked smalon dip- could have done without, weird temperature but it was tasty Entrees: Fish tacos & Salmon Drinks: Moscow mule"

  • "The worst experience I have had. The food was served looking like leftovers and waiters were busy gossiping without paying any attention to guests. Will never come again."

  • "While driving from Minneapolis to Houston, we stopped at this "better than it needs to be" restaurant half way through our road trip. The vegetarian and vegan options were compelling - the sage infused vegan risotto and the rosemary salad dressing on the farmers market salad were standouts. Fun assortment of classic and local cocktails. Reasonably priced and not what we expected when we saw it from the outside. We'll be stopping in again on our way back."

  • "We have eaten at Local many times, and I'm accustomed to giving 5 stars across the board. This time we were a bit disappointed, my entree, stacked chicken enchiladas, was full of grissel and hard to eat, sad because it is usually wonderful! Everyone has a bad day occasionally, we will be back and expecting better things next time."
    Dined on 3/15/2014
  • "The food was ok. Chicken enchiladas were ordered by 2 - would not order again. Chicken was dry and it was very hard to cut as it was stuck to the plate. BLT and ravioli were good but not exceptional. Kids liked the pizza. The salads were ok but there was no dressing selection to speak of. It took a long time to get our order. The saving grace would have been the dessert but they were out of pecan pie. The cheesecake was average. The chocolate cake was so heavy that the 3 who split that order could not finish it. The kids did not like it. If you are vegan or need gluten-free, I guess it would be the place to go but for the average diner, probably not so much. We were all hungry by the time we got home."

  • "We have dined here many times, and I'm sure we will go there many more, but this time the food wasn't quite up to their usual high standards. It was OK, but not as good as usual."
