Diner Reviews
  • "I want to like this place as I like to frequent locally-owned restaurants and love the concept of fresh and local foods. The staff is welcoming and helpful, however they always seem a bit disorganized. I make reservations and they seem surprised and in some cases seem taken aback even when your name is on the list. I like the drinks better than the food. I've eaten here a bit and find the offerings a bit stale and redundant. Last two times, nothing appealed to me from the regular menu or daily offerings. And I was a bit disappointed in my meals as the food was average at best. Ambiance is okay, but the noise factor is a bit much at times."

  • "Love being able to fake my wife to a great restaurant with fresh creative food - and my kids love playing and eating in the kids area."

  • "The worst experience I have had. The food was served looking like leftovers and waiters were busy gossiping without paying any attention to guests. Will never come again."

  • "The food was great as always, the staff was quick and attentive, and the atmosphere was great for a conversation."

  • "While driving from Minneapolis to Houston, we stopped at this "better than it needs to be" restaurant half way through our road trip. The vegetarian and vegan options were compelling - the sage infused vegan risotto and the rosemary salad dressing on the farmers market salad were standouts. Fun assortment of classic and local cocktails. Reasonably priced and not what we expected when we saw it from the outside. We'll be stopping in again on our way back."

  • "We have dined here many times, and I'm sure we will go there many more, but this time the food wasn't quite up to their usual high standards. It was OK, but not as good as usual."

  • "We have eaten at Local many times, and I'm accustomed to giving 5 stars across the board. This time we were a bit disappointed, my entree, stacked chicken enchiladas, was full of grissel and hard to eat, sad because it is usually wonderful! Everyone has a bad day occasionally, we will be back and expecting better things next time."

  • "The food was ok. Chicken enchiladas were ordered by 2 - would not order again. Chicken was dry and it was very hard to cut as it was stuck to the plate. BLT and ravioli were good but not exceptional. Kids liked the pizza. The salads were ok but there was no dressing selection to speak of. It took a long time to get our order. The saving grace would have been the dessert but they were out of pecan pie. The cheesecake was average. The chocolate cake was so heavy that the 3 who split that order could not finish it. The kids did not like it. If you are vegan or need gluten-free, I guess it would be the place to go but for the average diner, probably not so much. We were all hungry by the time we got home."

  • "Local is simply the best restaurant in Norman, Oklahoma."

  • "We enjoyed a nice date night at Local. The food was great (stacked enchiladas and primavera). We had great service, and never felt rushed or that they were trying to turn our table."

  • "And is always great. We're repeat customers for sure"

  • "Most menu items have a fairly good description but leave out key pieces of info. Oddities should be denoted. The barbecue sauce that came with the truffle chips was extremely weird tasting. Server's explanation was that it contained ginger. Still weird. The chicken enchilada stack also had some strange flavor and my guest ate very little of it. On my first visit, one of our guests couldn't eat the fish tacos because they were so heavily blackened...and blackening was not disclosed in the description. There are good things on the menu. I would only recommend that you ask questions to make sure you know what might be lurking."

  • "We loved everything about this restaurant! The food was so fresh. We tried the BLT and the turkey lasagna. Both were outstanding. Our waiter suggested the sticky toffee pudding which we shared. One of the best desserts ever! I will go back whenever I'm in Norman again."

  • "For the amount of food you get, it is very overpriced. Also, the food quality did not match the price. We will never go back."

  • "I tried Local for the first time for brunch with my girlfriends and had a great time! I love Localville for the kids! I plan to come back so my husband and I can dine while our daughter has fun in their supervised playroom."

  • "I took my girlfriend here for Valentines Day. Their 4-course menu was off-the-charts outstanding! Portions were a tad small for a big guy like me, but the meal filled her up nicely. Definitely among the best 4-course dinners I've had in the OKC area. Would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a step-up in the fine dining department."

  • "Me and my wife ate here for valentines day. We had an excellent meal! I had the best filet ever!"

  • "The food was excellent, excellent, excellent. Knowing it was from local growers and farms was even better. It was fairly busy so it took longer for our food to arrive than I would have liked, and the open-air atmosphere made for a bit of a noisy evening, but the fact that they have a drop off daycare so you can eat while your kids play and eat at their own area was a HUGE bonus."

  • "The food was great (set menu) though portions were on the small side. However, everything else was disappointing. This was our first and last visit. We felt rushed with the main courses arriving before we had finished the previous one. We did not like the ambiance of the restaurant. It did not match the expectations of fine dining and the price paid. It felt like we were eating in a warehouse. It was noisy and not at all romantic. We were DISAPPOINTED!!!"

  • "We visited for Valentine's Day having viewed the "Prix Fixe" menu online and thought the price was good. The food is always great here and was on this occasion. Our waiter, however, forgot to serve us the "Amuse" course until we pointed it out. I know they were busy, but we felt a little rushed through our dinner. This isn't usually the case here. The atmosphere is pretty noisy due to the hard floors and high open ceilings. We knew all that, but had hoped we'd get a booth, which is a bit quieter. We didn't, unfortunately. If you're looking for a quite, romantic setting, this isn't the place, but you can't go wrong with the fare. (Maybe table clothes to help with the noise , for an occasion like Valentine's Day??)"

  • "It's so nice to see a restaurant dedicated to local farmers and local residents. Their dishes are vibrant and very tasty. The portions are great too. You don't feel polluted after you eat either. Definitely will become a regular local yocal."

  • "This was our second visit to Local's "family-style" brunch -- and we were frankly a bit disappointed. The first plate out had pastries, cheese and fruit. The cheese and fruit were fine -- but the scones and little cinnamon roll (only one for two people) were cold. Refrigerator cold. Then, before the first plate was finished -- and before I had even had a couple of sips of my bloody mary -- here came the second plate. And more disappointment: the scrambled eggs were greasy, the bacon was limp and the sausage was overcooked. (We both thought the potatoes were satisfactory, though.) Maybe it was an off day in the kitchen, or maybe greasy eggs and limp bacon were the intended culinary target. If so, I'm not sure I'll be back."

  • "We had a large group to begin with- which kept growing.... they were very accommodating. The food and service was simply amazing. I cannot wait to go back and try other items on the menu. We had a FAB evening. Thanks for everything Darren (sp?) // Melissa."

  • "This was the third time I had dined at Local and all three times have been for lunch. This time I took my team of 12 to lunch. Our table was ready upon arrival and service was excellent. The menu is different from your typical chain lunch spots as they pride themselves on purchasing as much of their food as possible from local sources. They have many GF and vegetarian options and offer unique daily specials. Portions are just right and I have yet to eat something I thought could be better. My wife is very picky and when I brought her here a few weeks ago she said she would definitely come back...a pretty rare thing as we only have a few places in Norman where we will eat out."

  • "We had a very lovely dinner on New Year's Eve, and enjoyed the prix-fixe menu. Local should offer that more often, since it gives diners a chance to try more of their options. Everything was delicious."

  • "Our experience at Local was great. The food was excellent as was the service. The only downside was the service from the bar. We ordered Absinthe. We openly said that we did not know much about it. Had either our waitress or bartender stated that it tasted like black licorice, none of us would have ordered it. It was a waist of $54.00. The presentation was a little shaky. The bartender seemed a bit nervous, however she was very polite. The other drinks from the bar were way too strong as well. One of us ordered the Okie Irish Coffee which was not even warm because there was too much Bailey's. Despite the issues with the bar, our experience was great. We will be dining there again."

  • "We had a table of six and all ordered something different from the menu (Burger, Salad, Ravioli, Four Meat Meatloaf, Stacked Enchiladas). No one liked their dish at all with the exception of the Corn Chowder which i would give a 5 on a 10 point scale. I should have known when it was very easy to get and change reservations on OU game day."

  • "We were shocked to discover this terrific find tucked away in an unremarkable strip plaza in Norman, Oklahoma. Don't be put off by the impression from the curb, which they are doing their best to improve...GO! Once inside the door, you are patting yourself on the back for being adventurous enough to investigate. Fantastic, hip decor and vibe that smacks more of a fave, urban neighborhood hang in Toronto, than a former cafeteria set on the edge of an Oklahoma parking lot. Devoted to all things "local," the owners have created an environment with decorative elements crafted by Oklahoma artisans, and a delightful, delicious and unexpected menu from local sources. Ditto for the beverage list of area brews and signature cocktails. ENDORSE!"

  • "Local has a changing variety of entrees, including several vegetarian, vegan, and glutton-free options. Something for everyone! The veggies are delicious and nicely cooked - not overcooked. The lamb bites appetizer was a surprise - as good as the lamb I'd eaten in New Zealand. The only reason that I gave the food a 4 is that I like spicy food and the spicing was good, but not as strong as I like, but would probably be fine for most diners. I selected the restaurant as a place to meet with a group of friends and colleagues, and used their on-line reservation system. We had a nice table and it was quiet enough that we could easily converse. The selection of specialty and local beers was greatly appreciated. Very good service, too."

  • "The most notable characteristic about our dining experience at Local was the waitstaff, Jesse. He was knowledgeable about the menu and food preparation as well as was prompt, friendly, courteous and motivated. The food and atmosphere were average, but Jesse made our evening outstanding."
