Local is, in every way, a product of its place, local in every sense–local farmers and local tastes, local vendors and local artisans, local community and local people. Our often-changing menu presents sophisticated, fresh, and direct cooking of the best of the markets and ranches.

Local serves dinners Tuesday - Sunday evenings. We create our menu from the peak season, California vegetables, fruits, meat, and fish. We pour only natural, Californian wines.

  • "Was really looking forward to eating here after seeing reviews and enjoying the 'farm fresh' perspective on the website. But we found the menu underwhelming and the choices very limited. None of the entrees looked good so opted for the bread & cheese app (where is the cheese? One little uninspired Brie?), heirloom tomatoes (great dish!) and salad with peaxhes (meh. Not bad but nothing special). Skipped dessert (again, nothing looked inspired) and instead opted for Mission Pie down the street. Service was fantastic and we wanted so much to like the place (space, btw, is very cool) but in the end left a bit underwhelmed."

  • "My friend and i found the menu to be so intriguing. We started with the heriloom tomato and cucmber salad which was perfectly dressed and delicious. My salmon crudos was top grade salmon that simply melted in my mouth. My firend had the flank steak and barely came up for a breath. The wines were ones we were toally unfamiliar with and Alice our server was wonderful about letting us try a number of them. The desser of brown butter ice cream with fudge sauce was out of this world and we were glad we left room."

  • "Our group of 8 was handled with grace - including a call from the restaurant 2 days prior to our reservation to let us know that large groups are provided with a choice between a 2-course and 3-course "family style" offering. We went for the 3-course and so glad we did. They provided us with tastings - which added up to a sizable meal - of a huge variety of dishes - and all within our food allergy specs too! The food was truly wonderful: inventive without being precious, clearly fresh and totally yummy."

  • "The more people, the more opportunity to try everything on the menu, which you'll want to do as everything was sensational. The sirloin was worth the splurge; the potatoes wowed; the desserts and wines were great bookends to a fun evening. The fun had much to do with the server; he was amusing, knowledgeable and relaxed. We had a wonderful evening & highly recommend A suggestion: Rob Someone called to request I call to reconfirm our reservation but didn't leave the #. C'mon, Rob. Also, Rob promised we'd have a window seat for our party of 4 and b-day celebration, but that didn't happen. Again: C'mon! Food and service, however, did NOT disappoint."

  • "Was sort of aware of this place, I live in SF, not in the Mission, manage to hit many SF restaurants people like I can't agree enough with positive reviews of fresh ingredients, well-done interesting dishes and friendly, low-key atmosphere - it treads a nice line between neighborhood and sophisticated. It fits into the tree-lined homey feeling of 24th St, though it's difficult to not see it with other food spots there as an agent of ultimate change to the area. But the important point here is that the experience felt like a complete and honest realization of the owner and chef's thoughtful vision. Food was excellent, verbena pear drink a wonderful discovery, carrots sublime. Service/kitchen was moderately understaffed and making it work."

When I contacted Local Mission Eatery to try to move it back an hour, I was rudely told that that was their busiest hour and could not accommodate us. We had traveled a long way to eat at Local Mission Eatery and were very disappointed that we were unable to."

  • "I had friends in town so decided to take them to Local Mission Eatery for a taste of classic California. While there, I was reminded how I love the flavor combinations that the kitchen puts together and the wine list is always great. It's small enough that I don't feel overwhelmed and I've never been disappointed. Would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a nice meal in a beautiful space that isn't over-run."

  • "I went with my boyfriend and a couple of friends. First off, the space is very intimate and warm with great lighting. Unfortunately, we couldn't give it 5 stars for ambiance or service because we had to wait 20 minutes for a table (despite our having a reservation) and the place is a bit cramped if you're not seated. After we were eventually seated, we were met with an incredibly knowledgeable and friendly waiter who offered us food and great wine recommendations throughout the night. About the food: very good, very small portions and a bit overpriced for SF. About the wine: most of the wines are atypical / new-world in style and a few of us didn't like them. I'll definitely come back here but only for special occasions due to the prices."

Neighborhood gem with first class food and friendly service would best describe Local Mission Eatery. The wine list is an issue. Their most pricy wine is a selection from the Sierra Foothills offered for a little over $100.00 a bottle. I think Sierra foothills wine provides the best description, you don't want to go there, and you really don't want to drink their wine. The Local Mission Eatery is a place you want to experience....maybe bring your own wine. "

  • "Returned after several years and was not disappointed. The food is delicious. Creative,and well presented, we enjoyed every bite of roasted cauliflower with polenta, steak with wheat berries and reduced strawberry something, grilled asparagus, daily pickles and a salad. Cheese course served with grilled bread was the perfect ending."

  • "We really enjoyed sitting at the chef's counter and watching the chefs prepare our various courses. The food is presented very beautifully and artistically, it's visually very pleasing and the taste is equally impressive. The chef and manager (our server) were both friendly and the manager was very knowledgable about the food and wine list. We felt that we were in very good hands. Dishes that we tried included the celtuce with yogurt and radishes (a new to me vegetable), grilled asparagus with fermented cabbage and burnt lemon, red trout with kohlrabi, grilled bavette wtih wheatberries, and ravioli. My favorites were teh celtuce and the asparagus, but the steak was also wonderful."

  • "Not a trace of Mission funk in evidence at this Local Mission eatery. Many dishes at this local restaurant sparkle such as the artichoke salad with cara cara oranges and carrots , may sound bland but bot so. Perfectly cooked Loin of lamb on wild rice have you wishing you could come back the very next night for the very same dinner. And the apple funnel cake (croissant) fanciful with it's surrounding sliced apples, whipped cream and suggested strawberry topping. I'll be back."

But everything on the menu was executed beautifully, and it was quite obvious that the menu is kept short so the chefs can focus on quality ingredients. This restaurant locally sources all of their produce and ingredients. The menu is seasonal. Definitely excited to see what the spring brings!"

  • "I loved our dining experience at Local Mission Eatery. The waiter was excellent in recommending items from the menu. There were 4 of us and we shared several plates among ourselves which gave each a us the opportunity to experience each dish. The food is fresh and ingredients from local farms close to the Bay Area. The menu featured seasonal produce. The quality and the taste of each dish was excellent. The pasta freshly made. I had been to Local Mission Eatery before for brunch but never for dinner. But after this fabulous dinner meal, I plan to go there for dinner more often."

  • "Two friends and I sat at the bar just outside the open kitchen after a long day. So glad that we did. We not only had innovative yummy food but also learned a lot about its preparation and how it could be done at home. Even the non-vegetarian loved her meal despite the absence of an emphasis on meat. With informed advice from our waitress, the small but excellent wine list yielded a great bottle at a modest price. The cooks and wait staff were excited that we were appreciative and not at all pretentious despite the top notch food. I certainly will return when I come back to town. (And I rarely repeat restaurants because there are so many good ones to try in SF)"

  • "Everything on the menu is creative, well balanced, and delicious without pretension. We love sitting at the counter and watching the chefs cook with care and skill. No tweezers, no foam. The standouts at this most recent visit were the braised swiss chard with toasted almonds, meyer lemon and capriago goat cheese, and the trout with smoked potatoes and spigarello. PERFECT. The restaurant is casual, and the service is timely and attentive without being rushed. The staff are knowledgable and down to earth, cheerful and chatty without being intrusive. The menu changes depending on what is in season, and really centers around the vegetables. A great place for vegetarians. Make sure to order the pickles to start!"

  • "Overall, the food was decent, the music and ambiance were nice and the tables not too crowded. Omnivores may enjoy a lovely meal here, but vegetarians will be better fed elsewhere. Vege options tended to lack creativity, flavor, and protein. For some courses—it was a pre fixe menu for New Year's—no vege option was offered (two seafood starters) or there was simply a meat dish minus the meat (leaving only a dry slice of bread with a couple onions). The vege entree (meant to be a hot mushroom stew) was served cold and had to be sent back."
