Diner Reviews
  • "The food was definitely not as good as it used to be. The scallops were large and perfectly cooked but bland. The lentils accompanying it were undercooked. Nothing on the plate woke up the taste buds. The calzone was also so so. The wine list is very good. Not great value. Too bad because the place is very attractive and has great potential."

  • "Brunch is one of my favorite things in life and this has now become my favorite brunch spot. The bottomless mimosas are truly bottomless and I never had to ask for more. The breakfast potatoes are literally the best ever. I ordered classic eggs Benedict, which were absolutely phenomenal, but looking around at everyone else's dishes I don't think you could order anything bad! I highly recommend this spot for brunch!"

  • "It was utterly delicious. Amazing service from the waiter. Very funny, likeable, and attentive! Qualm would be the scallop dish...3 scallops for 28 dollars? Really?"

  • "Service is spectacular. Salads great. The pizza was good but not as good as I've had there in the past. Nonetheless, I'll go back and give it another whirl."

  • "The kitchen is quite good, serving solid and occasionally innovative dishes consistently. The décor is a must for concrete enthusiasts and is quintessential "urban chic", by which I mean "appeals to self-absorbed tech types who wouldn't know good taste if it hit them on the head." Service is a bit slow, but well-meaning. Worth a lunch if you are in the area."

  • "Loved the bottomless mimosas! Food was great. We had the oatmeal and the ribeye with eggs and salad! Our server that day was Didie and he was great!"

  • "Great drinks, wine selection, appetizers and pizzas. Desserts were great too. We ordered a lot of things and shared. The pizzas were excellent especially the funghi!"

  • "The drinks were really good and the food was good -- I enjoyed the mushroom pizza (hooray for truffle oil!) and my husband did not enjoy his vegetarian chili, which was a little "out there" -- although I enjoyed it for the next couple days of leftovers! :-)"

  • "They haven't introduced new menu items in quite some time. I have been told their chicken was spectacular. It was ok"

  • "we had a reservation via opentable, however, when we arrived there was no space for us. diet coke was flat, so was the replacement, the bar drink ordered comes made inconsistently most of the time, ordered the burger with no bacon, avocado and fries please: came with bacon, avocado and salad. I'm pretty sure our pizza was forgotten about as it came very late. the food is good, service, while nice people, seem to play many roles other than serving (ie: bartender) and that never works. some simple changes can be made here to get back on track."

  • "Great experience! The food was wonderful. Easy atmosphere. Although our server initially overcharged us (our gift certificate was for 4 people, and she had looked at the wrong order and charged us as if the gift was for only two) I caught it in time and when I insisted it was for four, she agreed to go back and check it. No apology, though! However, they outdid themselves with great service later. I left the resaurant, and soon realized I had forgotten our "take-away" box of leftovers on the table. When I returned and inquired, it had already been tossed. The maitre D' asked what it was, and had the kitchen make me a new order! Now THAT'S the kind of service that gets repeat customers! :-D"

  • "First time at Local and was pleasantly surprised. Everything tasted fresh, large portions, great service. I would definitely go back."

  • "This out-of-the-way bistro was cute. Nice surroundings but quite casual. Food only so-so. Eggs were good but the potatoes must have been sitting around for hours; very dry. Drinks good. Overall, I won't visit this place again unless I'm in the neighborhood by chance and can't find anything else."

  • "The open kitchen and communal dining table give Local Kitchen a warm and comfortable atmosphere. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a carafe of water upon being seated. We came for Sunday brunch, using a Groupon that offered bottomless mimosas, which were also brought in a carafe, saving our waiter from having to constantly check on us to see if we needed refills. We selected the eggs benedict and make your own omelet. Both items were delicious and served promptly. The portions were generous and well seasoned. Our entrees were $14.00 each, and the mimosas were $12.00 each, should we have had to pay for them. By the time we left the place was full, a nice indication of its popularity. Overall, a really nice neighborhood find."

  • "Menu can get old if you eat there too often, which is easy to do in the Rincon Hill neighborhood as there aren't a lot of other restaurants. They should try offering smaller portions for lunch - knowing the portion sizes of the pasta, Panini, and other dishes makes the lunch selection slim if you don't want a lot of heavy food. Otherwise, good food and service."

  • "Food was excellent. I had the egg benedict and it was delicious! Staff was very friendly and service was great. We had the bottomless mimosas and our server was quick to refill our carafe. I would definitely visit this restaurant again."

  • "This is our valentines dinner so we saw the "couple's menu" and ordered it. The size of the salad for two person was enough for one. Half of the salad was baby spinach and I did not taste the citrus dijon vinaigrette. My wife had the late harvest zinfandel and I had a glass of Napa chardonnay, That was fine. The entree was short ribs; but it tastes like rubber cakes, chewy and tasteless. The quantity was too big, but the quality of the meat left a lot to be desired. The highlight of the dinner was the desert. We had chocolate cup cakes and cheese cake. I fingered out the so called specials are just another gimmick for the restaurateurs to make extraordinary profit instead of making sure their guests enjoy a good dining experience."

  • "We were seated in what looked like their private tasting room. Very nice atmosphere and much, much quieter than the regular dining room area. Their cocktails were very good, but sadly the food was just mediocre. Server was great, though."

  • "The food was good, the service was good to. But the thing is that I made a reservation and the host tried to sit us like in the bar, and I asked for a table and she sat us at the door, and it was a slow night, there were many tables available inside. I hope next time sit the people in a good table."

  • "I have been a regular to Local Kitchen since its opening. I continue to find it a gem within the SOMA area, both in service and quality of food. The lunch hour caters to many local business' in the area; which can sometimes make it a little challenging to beat the crowd. I recently took my team out for lunch, and found the staff to be very accommodating with a Gluten-Free request. They were able to offer many recommendations, and alternative ingredients to meet our guests needs."

  • "Small menu for brunch but the 3 things we ordered (eggs benedict, huevos rancheros, and a waffle) were all yummy. They offer bottomless mimosas for a reasonable price, and the Bloody Mary comes with BACON in it."

  • "Local Kitchen is, quite literally, your local kitchen. Whoever designed the place deserves some type of medal of honour -- there is an ambiance about the place that oozes warmth and casual elegance. Combined with great food, a private rent-able wine bar, and some very cute honeypot bartenders -- this is a spot not to be missed. My one complaint is they have replaced the Calabrian Chilis with Thai/red jalapenos. *not cool* Our waitstaff said it was due to cost, but an inquiry into the backoffice claims they can't source them. Whatever the case, those calabrians made ALL the difference in the burrata dish as well as the salsiccia pizza. I hope they come back!"

  • "1/2 of their menu is pizza so keep that in mind. We got salads and they are average, just ok--the caesar was very bitter--they use the inside of the romaine so it was very yellow and bitter. Local salad was nice a bit overdressed. Local pizza was nice--good flavor, nice crust, good amount of topping--not too saucy. dessert was delicious but can never go wrong with vanilla ice cream and a shot of expresso on top. it also is a younger crowd mixed with a family scene…and it get very very loud inside so you cannot hear each other very well. they do have a nice community table."

  • "This is one of my favorite restaurants in SF. My dinner was great as usual, but one of the people we were dining with was not real happy with the Salmon entrée. She asked the server if the Salmon was farmed - the server said no it was Alaskan Salmon. When she tried the salmon she said it tasted like farmed fish. She eats salmon on a regular basis and loves it, but was not really happy with her dinner that night."

  • "I was supposed to meet a friend for lunch but she cancelled last minute. I also feel awkward going to a restaurant alone, but not this time! The servers were friendly and helpful. The chef even took the time to answer some of my questions regarding the menu, detailing ingredients, the way things are cooked and his favorite dishes. He was knowledgeable, friendly and passionate about the food. The food itself was incredible. The carrot-ginger soup was the best I've ever had. I also had what I though would be a simple salad with grilled chicken, but the combination of quality goat cheese, beets and the amazing house-made dressing elevated 'simple' to 'wow!'. Not too many salads could do that! Event the brussel sprouts were even amazing!"

  • "Re my "Good for Groups" rating: We had a work group of 6 people there this year and last year for a year-end thank-you lunch. I'm not sure if it would be good for big groups--they may have a separate room for larger groups that I don't know about. Both times we sat on stools around a communal table that seats perhaps 15 or so, and it worked out well. We would definitely go again."

  • "Food wise, we didn't have a very good experience at all. However, I wrote the owner directly and he addressed my complaints and offered us dinner there on him to make it right. When you hear back immediately from the owner, that is what makes a restaurant worth supporting."

  • "Good food, my salmon seemed healthy, nice portion. The pizza looked great, I would get that next time. My "hot Mez" cocktail was a bit sweet, they were out of Mezcal so they substituted Tequila, I would suggest more lime & more chili on the glass rim."

  • "Local Kitchen is the tucked-away spot where I take colleagues and visiting friends and family for a nice lunch during the work day. Consistently delicious food over the years, across all menu options. Even New Yorkers are impressed with the pizza. Upscale fare in a casual atmosphere. Ridiculously heavy door. Downside is that the restaurant stopped serving its house made breadsticks."

  • "The potato leek soup was yummy. The pizza funghi was delicious (even more so if it had tomato sauce instead of bianca). The pork loin was good. The vegetarian farfalle with pesto was tasty. The server should have brought back the menus for dessert rather than just ask, "anything else?" We purposely saved room for dessert by packing up our leftovers! We would have been compelled to order or at the very least split a couple desserts, if we had been brought menus! Please be so kind and pack the pasta and slip the slice of delicious bread in a bag/wrap in a napkin/foil. Rather than let it get soggy packed in the box with the pasta? and thrown a way a few days later, when I finally got around to eating!"

  • "The food was excellent, but it took forever for us to place both the drinks and food order, which was especially disappointing considering that we were in a rush. I had to raise stink to get our waiter, who was admittedly super busy (so it's not really his fault, but of whoever who is in charge of staffing), to take our order. Once that was out of the way, the rest was super smooth, so I'd be back."
