One of our best dining experiences ever. Food was outstanding. Our server Devon was knowledgeable and offered helpful suggestions with our selections of preparation and sauces for our steak choices. We drove almost 12 hours to dine here because we had enjoying an equally wonderful dinner a year ago

Have been to Chop House many times and have never been disappointed. An out of town business relationship asked to take me to dinner and I selected Chop House. He was from Dallas, travels a lot and has many fine dinners but was so impressed with Local Chop House food, service and atmosphere.

My wife and I were visiting our daughter and her boyfriend who live in Harrisonburg. Our son from Richmond had come over as well. We heard the Local Chop & Grill House was excellent and the restaurant did not disappoint. The main dining area is up a small flight of stairs, it is located in a well-restored historic building that is impeccably maintained. Being a Chop House the menu features a wide variety of fine prime meats; one picks their steak, then a rub (3 excellent choices) and then a sauce to be served on the side, two sides are also included. I also noticed U10 scallops on the menu as well but I was there for a steak. The service was excellent, the water glass never empty, the meal timed perfectly. I highly recommend!

It is obvious that a great deal of attention goes into the preparation and presentation of the meals served. We had two different entrees and sides, and everything was cooked properly and tasted great. I had the 12 oz Ribeye with the house rub, and my wife had the Rainbow Trout, which she said was the best Rainbow Trout she had ever tasted. We eat Rainbow Trout often, and she cooks it well herself, so that is saying a lot. Our server and all of the wait staff were excellent.

  • 4 pieces of asparagus

The side portions are stingy. I had five pieces of asparagus, my husband was only given 4. My "macaroni and cheese," also a very small portion, was cooked pasta on top of an oily, white liquid of some kind, no cheese to be found. While my steak was good and I enjoyed the filet, overall, the meal was just overpriced. Things like having our water glasses refilled or having the check and credit card retrieved took about 15 minutes each, which did not add to the overall experience.

This was our second visit after we loved the fist one last year. Had a reservation for Sat night for a long time, and earlier on Saturday I Gave them heads up that we are 4 instead of 3. We were told that they have to move us outside as we would not fit. I don't know what kind of table that fits 3 does not fit 4... The problem with outside was that our corner table had no lighting, so soon after we finished appetizers the lighting was not adequate. Shame, as the food was really good. Disappointed. That table should not be used during dinner service, or guests should be advised to bring their own lighting.

Local fare had rib eye steak cooked perfectly, the wife had scallop (u10) cook perfectly. The menu is unquie that you pick a potien, then a preparation, then a sauce and two sides. The pace was just right and the Waite staff was there when needed but overbearing. Plates where cleared timely give time in between courses to cleanse the palette with a little wine and conversation ( which could be done at or below a moral voice level. Thank for a wonderful eating experience.

Devon has served us twice. She is attentive without being overly "hovering." She has a very pleasant personality and knows the menu - including the wines. The filet was wonderful, as always. One person in our group ordered the Sirloin and said that it was very tasty. As a long-time resident of Harrisonburg, I feel so pleased that we can support a restaurant at the level of Local Chop & Grill House. I look forward to many more special dining experiences here.

My husband and I enjoyed the always wonderful food at Local Chop to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary. The desserts were so intriguing that we both ordered two desserts because we couldn't decide. I had the scallops with the citric sauce which is my favorite entrée here, and my husband had the strip steak.

Overall the Local Chop & Grill House was wonderful. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was perfect and the food (mostly) was delicious. We started our meal and I ordered the Bacon and Eggs - it was really good! We all had beef - I had the ribeye with the horseradish sauce, my daughter had the filet mignon with a garlic sauce, my husband had the ribeye as well and my son had the strip steak. We all loved the meal and the accompanying sides (smashed potatoes, duck fries and asparagus). The only item not enjoyed was the caesar salad but it's a steakhouse so we'll return and just not order it. It was a wonderful evening!

Read about the restaurant in Shenandoah Valley Electric Living publication of all places. Have been looking for a special place to eat since coming to the Valley six years ago. Local Chop House and Grill is by far the best we've found. Menu was easy to follow and quite comprehensive (although I don't remember seeing any lamb dishes on it!) and the sides were delicious - not your usual green beans and cole slaw. Dinner for two with bottle of wine and one dessert came to $120 which we thought was good value.

12 dollars for a shot (not a jigger) of Glenlivet scotch is what I would expect to pay in Manhattan or London not Harrisonburg. Also the entrees are too expensive, and the sodium content of the meal was overbearing, and I am a salt-aholic. The service was impeccable and the meat and side dishes were cooked to perfection (except the salt).

Having eaten at The Local Chop & Grill House numerous times, I was pleased that the overall high quality of the food still exists. Cheese plate appetizer was interesting, peach salad was unfortunately just okay (greens were bitter and peach slices were super thin with little flavor), petite filet was delicious as were the mashed potatoes and asparagus sides. No room for dessert; however, I would have been tempted if there was something light and different on the menu; but same offerings of Crème Brulee, ice cream, cheesecake, etc. I really like this restaurant for 'special' occasions as it is a bit on the pricey side but if the food is high quality, worth the money. I would like to see a bit more variety though.

My wife & I have been to the Local Chop House each year for the past 3 years. The quality of the food has remained uniquely consistent, which is to say it's awesome. For seating, if you are a party of 2, ask for a table on the 2nd level by the windows. It is quieter, more romantic, w/ a view. For appys, the charcuterie plate is excellent--all local meats & homemade sauces. For the entrée, you must choose steak. It's a chop house, after all. The 12 oz rib-eye is a favorite. Select the House rub, for a nice, flavorful seasoning. Don't worry about the chef not cooking the steak to your liking. They get it right every time. The dipping sauces are all safe bets but my fave is the duck demi. For sides, go w/ the duck fat fries and asparagus.

We came in to celebrate a very special occasion and were not impressed at all. Our server was almost non-existent and trying to get her attention was nearly impossible. She ignored us completely after our dinner was served and we had to flag her down to get our bills, even though we would have preferred to stay for dessert and after-dinner drinks. During dinner, refills on sauces took over 20 minutes and beverage refill orders never showed up. Service in the bar after dinner was much better than service in the restaurant.

We were driving north and our route took us through Harrisonburg, VA. Found Local Chop & Grill House online, and it turned out to be the perfect spot for a cocktail and meal after 11 hours of driving. The service was prompt and courteous. My wife ordered the small filet, which was a good cut of beef cooked perfectly. My chili was nice and spicy, with good chunks of beef inside. My only disappointment was their chopped salad. First, it didn't come chopped. Second, I thought it was a little light on all of the ingredients other than the mixed greens. All in all, though, a nice oasis in an unfamiliar town.

We visited Local Chop & Grill while staying at Massanutten Resort about 30 minutes away. The option to choose your protein, rub and sauce looked intriguing and we could not have been happier! My husband had the ribeye and I had scallops - both were so delicious you didn't even need the sauces! Sides were delicious and so were the desserts - cheesecake and chocolate mousse. Our server Jill was great and had excellent recommendations for what sauce paired well with each entree. I wish we lived closer so we could come back! Great diverse wine selection and craft been selection too.

Chef Ryan continues to prove that he is one of the best chef's in all of Virginia and this is Harrrisonburg's standout restaurant by far. Outstanding quality ingredients, many sourced from the extensive local farming in the area. The regular menu is simple and features great apps and a 'select a protein, preparation, sauce and sides'. The bar menu is fantastic small bites, and the special 'farm to fork' meals are Ryan's specialty when his creativity shines the brightest with prix fixe using a few local farms and wineries to build a multi-course feast!

Their tasty food and classy ambiance makes it the best fine dining experience in the area. I have nothing but good things to say about all of my visits.
