  • "Good specials, tasty, original food, excellent service."

  • "My companion and I began with chili-garlic shrimp and the Spanish tortilla. The shrimp were tender, buttery goodness! The tortilla was delicious, as well. However, I would describe it more as a Spanish quiche. It was delightful! For an entree, we shared the seafood paella. This was the most savory, mouth-watering dish that I've had in a long time! I recently had the house paella at another local restaurant, that had come highly recommended. It was definitely good, but Local's version blew it out of the water! The portion was enough for two, and the flavor was unprecedented. Dessert consisted of the flan and a chili-dark chocolate torte. Outstanding! As for the service, all of the employees we encountered were super friendly and helpful."

  • "We did not really test the kitchen, but what we had was very good -- a ceviche (tasty but a very small portion for $7) and two different fish entrees. Our server was thoughtful and attentive. The music, unfortunately, was intrusively loud."

  • "My brother was in town and we had chosen a different restaurant with which we were all familiar. but they didn't answer their phone so I started hunting and found Local 188. Turns out none of us had tried it and now we know a great place. It was a hit with my foodie brother and with my two teenaged sons."

  • "Local 188 was a good spot for a low key, stress free first date. I would recommend Local 188 to others."

  • "got a great window seat on a beautiful evening in Maine. We both ordered tapas as appetizers (meatballs and stuffed eggs) Both were yummy. I had the local pollack dish with blue potato hash and greens. It was very tasty. My husband had the steak and salad. We both raved about the herbs and seasonings that seemed to make simple dishes spectacular! I would recommend it to anyone and we will definately return.....hopefully, very soon."

  • "Our dinner was outstanding-paella, gnocchi; served with care and wonderful suggestions. The atmosphere is fun, comfortable, like you are being well taken care of!"

  • "The food at Local 188 is consistently great. Starter of locally harvested mushrooms was divine, the amuse bouche a crisp, fresh surprise, the risotto perfectly cooked and savory. The noise level is often not for the faint of heart on a weekend night but we tucked into a corner of the bar area and blocked some of the dining room noise. Wait staff is always friendly and helpful and easy going."

  • "The food was pretty good, although a little more 'frou frou' and less hearty than I was hoping for. The appetizers were especially small, so I'd order a few if folks want to share. The flavors of some things were just ok (spanish tortilla, pickled veggies). However my seafood paella was delicious and full of various seafood, the goat cheese salad was wonderful, and everyone liked their entrees (tuna steak and veggie pasta). The desserts were even better; we had the chocolate brownie w/ caramel ice cream, and the flan-like pudding. YUM. The Maine honey mead was a nice inclusion on the drink menu."

  • "The dessert was delicious, however it was served with apologies as it was missing one component, which, I felt, I should have been told when ordering it. The short ribs were very good, but the serving, I thought, a little meager, and in need of some potatoes."

  • "We had a great experience at Local 188. The menu choices are creative and we found it fun to share the food we ordered (we were just two people). It seems like this would be a great place for a group as there are many items we would have liked to sample if we dined with a larger group."

  • "The food was great with local tastes woven into the menu. However, the space is wide open and conversation was next to impossible even with the person next to me. "

  • "It was a bit too noisy at 7:30 on a Saturday night. Perhaps space dividers, curtains, etc. could help. Great food, friendly staff. "

  • "Love the broad range of tapas and raciones options!! Gives the diner an opportunity to sample multiple great tastes with reasonable portion sizes and without breaking the bank. Great restaurant."

  • "My mother and I plus our spouses dined here on Mother's Day. The food was incredibly flavorful and fresh. I ordered the classic Paella and it was the best paella I have ever eaten. The atmosphere was lively as folks wandered in, music palyed but it wasn't too loud and the lighting was perfect. It was great to look at the beautiful art on the walls. On our way out we saw one of the chefs taking a break out back in the parking lot. As we went to get in our car he asked us if we enjoyed our food and experience. The food was great, but overall I would have to say the service was the best I've had in a long time dining anywhere. The servers were prompt and polite and the chef on his break made sure to thank us for dining there when we left."

  • "We walked past it a few times without realizing what is was. Great Tapas, great menu choices. We had the meatballs and think they had currie in then, great taste. Great beer and wine choices. All food choices we had were superb."

  • "We continue to go because it is a local place, unfortunately the service continues to be poor and the food quality is beginning to go downhill"

  • "I had not been for a while and with a group of 5 wanting to go to One Longfellow Square on a Saturday night, a reservation at Local 188 seemed like a good idea. We sampled our way through the tapas and raciones menu and every dish we tried was great. Top hits were cheese plate, gnocchi and short ribs. We decided we needed to come back to try everything that we missed on this trip!"

  • "We had heard that Local 188 was a terrific restaurant. We thought it was okay. We both had fish -- paella and hake -- both dishes were over cooked we thought. The staff is very nice and very helpful."

  • "A friend and I shared some small and large plates before a show at Merrill - all were quite good, and there were plenty of interesting choices, which was great because she is gluten-free. We started with beautiful mojitos, then shared scallops which were the highlight - beautifully seared with a mango coulis. We also had the hanger steak, a goat cheese salad, and their version of fries. My only complaint is that everything came out at once, so it made it challenging to fit all the plates on the table. I would have expected more of a staggering of the plates. "

  • "Had a great time and delicious food at Local 188. We were a party of four. Server was swift, but not rushed; very personable; really knew the menu and how to help us choose. Very nice guy without being ingratiating. We will go back and happily so."

  • "Such a great modern open feel to this restaurant while maintaining a cozy, neighborhood vibe. The menu was diverse and delicious, with the steak tartare as the standout tapa dish! Our server was friendly and attentive and gave us some lovely recommendations! Would definitely go again."

  • "At the time of reservation, I mentioned it was for our 3 year wedding anniversary. Upon our arrival, we were seated to a nice quiet corner table away from crowds and greeted by a friendly waitperson. The service and meal were both wonderful and so were desserts; lemon & blood orange sorbet with black sesame paste and maple ricotta cheesecake with black peppered bacon. At the end of our dinner, we were told that not just one but both fabulous desserts were on house to wish us a happy anniversary! We also received a lovely print by Patrick Corrigan, an artist and a co-owner of the restaurant as a gift. We would have given them 5 stars just for their food and service regardless, but with their hospitality, we would like to add one more star!"

  • "Food was very different and good. We were worried about portion sizes and wondered if we might not still be hungry based on what our waitress had said, but that wasn't the case at all. We shared a few tapas appetizers and each had a fresh, delicious salad before each picking a different raciones to indulge in. Everything was out of this world and we had no room for dessert."

  • "It's a really large space for such a nice restaurant, so acoustics are good. The food is fantastic. I didn't click "kid friendly" because when I read that I assume the place will be specially geared to kids, but we have reasonably well behaved 3 and 6 year olds and it was fine."

  • "Food at Local 188 is unique, bursting with flavors you can't readily find elsewhere. Trying a few different tapas and dishes and sharing them with your party is perhaps the best way to experience what they have to offer. Often their food is local, organic, healthy and tasty. I would describe the ambience as eclectic ellegance. They have an elegant bar as well as a nice dinning area. Excellent service, atmosphere, and food!"

  • "My second time here but my husbands first. We both had a starter salad and an entree. We both enjoyed everything . The waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and helped me find dairy free alternatives. Everything was fresh and tasty. The place was hopping but we were never rushed. I would recommend this restaurant and an added bonus is that they have off street parking!"

  • "Local 188 was great..we originally had a reservation at a restaurant we have been to , but looking for somewhere new worked out We got an 8:30pm reservation (the only one left aside from a 5:30pm), place was very loud, and tables filled up fast. We started with 3 tapas, the patatas bravas, pickle plate, and deviled eggs...all awesome. We then shared the seafood paella, which took a long time to come out due to a misunderstanding between the waitress and chef, which the waitress apologized for. When it finally came out, it was delicious!! though a little salty. We got a comp. dessert as an apology. Overall, great dinner although we wish it was a little quieter and also not so smokey. The open kitchen was good/bad because of this."

  • "Showed up on time and were seated promptly which was great. Being a Spanish restaurant my girlfriend tried the house Sangria which was not a good choice and tasted of poor champagne mostly. For our appetizer we had the deviled eggs which tasted mainly like fried onions yet I can't recall there being mention of onions on the menu and were a bit runny. For my main entree and something not found often in America I tried the pallella, that tasted more like brown rice soup and nothing like I recall in Barcelona. I now know why this is rarely served in the US despite its simplicity. To top the whole thing off the meal was $100 and not close to worth half. It's a wonder how this place is so highly regarded in the area."
