Diner Reviews
  • "LJ's has been our "go to" restaurant for special occasions and a nice evening out for years. As long as LJ's has been open. Over the years we have always been extremely satisfied with our dining experience. The food was always excellent. Well prepared and good. Because of this our last dining experience was a real disappointment. As always the service was great, the waiters know the menu and are very gracious and welcoming. We decided to try the Chef's menu. Some of the food was great, the dip for the eggplant for example, but there were a few that were not very good. The fish dishes especially were not very appealing and too salty. They did comp us some desserts, and offered to change our entrees which was nice."

  • "I had a crab cake dinner with garlic spinach, my wife had the cinnamon perogies which are not a favorite of mine but these were really good. One of our dinner companions had the strip steak, it was cooked to perfection and tasted wonderful. There were two things that I didn't care for. First, the chairs in the bar, they look horrible with so many stains on the fabric, really gross, please clean them or replace them. The second was an observation of two tables with couch seating on one side and a chair on the other, the couch sinks down too far for this to be an enjoyable experience for the unfortunate person stuck there,I watched the two couples who were seated across from me throughout the evening try to adjust, they needed a booster seat."

  • "Everytime my husband and I get a chance to escape the hustle of baseball, cheerleading, basketball, and golf; we always come to LJ's! We can have adult time without any children around! Love the food...the salad is my personal favorite!"

  • "This is, hands down, the best place to eat in the Hagerstown area. Food, drinks, service, atmosphere-- all first class."

  • "Everything about this experience at LJ's was superb. Cocktails, excellent. The two appetizers we shared were yummy. Entrees, out of this world. Desserts, just right. The service was outstanding. And there was a good vibe in the restaurant the whole time we were there. This is definitely the best eatery for miles and miles........."

  • "Its Hagerstown, so we went in somewhat guarded. Even then, we were disappointed with our meal at LJ's. Tiny portioned cheese plate. Overpowering lemon in salad dressing. Almost inedibly salty entrees ( NY strip and sirloin). Also, in a restaurant with an open concept kitchen, what diner ever wants to hear kitchen timers going off every few minutes? The chef (LJ?) keeps that thing right on the counter so everyone e can enjoy the beeps. The upside? Excellent espresso and pear sorbet. Not enough to bring us back."

  • "The menu changes seasonally and it an eclectic variety of items to choose from. We had the Chef's Selection with the wine parings on our visit and found it to be adventourous and tasty. Wonderful and attentive service"

  • "My mother and I started our mother-daughter shopping day off with brunch at LJs, which was the perfect start to our adventure. Our waiter was very attentive and since we were very enthusiastic in our orders for mimosas, he served us our mimosas right away, even before he poured our water. The appetizers were very good, even though it was a bit too much for us to share. We both had the steak frites with an egg on the side, mine over medium and hers poached. Both were cooked to order perfectly. Our drinks were never empty and at the same time the waiter was not overly attentive during our meals, which was appreciated. We loved it and will continue to be patrons."

  • "Would go there again for the food and ambiance. The drinks in the bar were small , but the wine was a good poor. Choices for vegetarians show some thought."

  • "After recently visiting LJ's & the Kat Lounge for a weekend end dinner I was delighted to find the same peaceful and quiet atmosphere that I had loved before. I was also very happy to find that after placing my reservation online, and asking to be close to the kitchen (amazing open kitchen) that we were seated facing the kitchen so that we were able to enjoy watching the Chefs create the wonderful dishes in the kitchen. The seasonal egg nog crème brule was such a delight!"

  • "Great local restaurant that is equal to the best in DC or Baltimore. Innovative menu that changes frequently but always maintains some favorites. Diverse and comprehensive wine list. Terrific food. We often take friends who have never dined there and they all can't wait to go back. Neither can we!"

  • "Fantastic service and great food & wine in a calm, intimate atmosphere. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the owner personally came around to make sure we were enjoying our evening."

  • "This is by far the best restaurant in Hagerstown. It is on par with any fine dinning you would find in DC. The best part is you don't have to drive to DC and fight traffic to enjoy it! It's right here in good ole Hagerstown."

  • "We dine at LJs several times a year and have never been disappointed. Every item on the menu is creative and delicious. You may not expect to find a restaurant like this in Hagerstown, but it is on par with any metropolitan fine dining experience we've ever had."

  • "We came to LJ's after hearing it was a nice place for a celebration. We were promptly seated after checking our coats. Our waitress was professional and well informed. We chose appetizers and our entrees and 2 flights of wine that complemented our dinner choices. The Escargot was outstanding, among the best we have had. But our dinner entrees were fair but disappointing. The sole was bland and overall lacked visual appeal. The braised rabbit was also disappointing and did not rise to the recommendation of the server. The creme brulee dessert was very appealing both in taste and presentation. Overall our evening was a disappointment. Upon leaving we waited to retrieve our coats but could find no one at the check, we found our coats unsecure."

  • "LJ's is not what it use to be - some of our entries were just average, not the wow that we were familiar with. Seat cushions were stained and is starting to have a run down look."

  • "I love this restaurant. Easily equals the great restaurants of DC and Baltimore. Interesting, eclectic menu that changes frequently. Excellent service. Special menus and various times of the year. Truly a gem. Best restaurant in Hagerstown."

  • "upscale good food, excellent service, a different approach to fine dinning, be prepared to be pampered, and if you have special dietary needs they will do their very best to meet them and make your experience tops"

  • "Brunch was excellent!!! The quality of the ham was perfect. The eggs were cooked exactly right! No small endeavor. Heather, our waitress, was very accommodating. We had to request that one of our order be cooked in an exact manner and it was done to perfection. What more can I say, we planned our next dinner while we were having brunch."

  • "My wife and I went to LJ's on a Tuesday night for an anniversary dinner. We arrived at the same time as a bus full of 25 elderly people from a nearby retirement community, so we were afraid service might be slow, but we were pleasantly surprised by the fine job the staff did with the sudden crowd. This was our first time at LJ's so we had nothing to compare things to, but my wife very much enjoyed the veal entree and I thought the salmon was fantastic. We shared the peach dessert with some very good coffee to finish our evening. Portions are small but well-presented and, most important, delicious. Service was relaxed but attentive. We will definitely go back."
