We were looking for a non traditional mother's day celebration spot without the typical brunch or special menu. Liv's delivered on all counts. Always fresh and labeled so you know which ones are your faves. The truffle fries and the grilled flatbread are a must. The shrimp cocktail was sweet and tender ( and huge). Our entrees were delicious; we got the halibut, scallops, and the trout and snapper specials. Our server was very attentive and kept our table clean and our drinks full. The happy hour menu is a great deal - it allowed me to try several items in smaller portions that I will most likely order in the future. An added bonus was that bottles of wine were 1/2 price. Don't know whether this is a weekly event on Thursdays or just a one time deal, but we were able to enjoy a very nice bottle at a very reasonable price. We picked Old Saybrook as a half way point to meet for dinner. I then picked Liv's by searching online and reading the menu and restaurant history. What a find!!! We were thrilled to find it was half price oyster night. We started with a dozen. We continued on with the beet salad....fantastic! I had the scallops for my entree and my friend had the tuna. We ended with the flourless chocolate cake. Our drinks were made perfectly and the meal was exceptional right down to our cappuccino! The staff....We were seated by a lovely lady. She was delightful. Joe our waiter was attentive and personable. We will be back soon. The execution of service, attention to detail regarding food, and overall experience was top notch.
The main entrees were superb. I had the short ribs. They were like butter-- over a bed of polenta that was divine.
Accompanied by grilled baby Brussels sprouts and fennel it made for a lovely meal.
My dessert was the best I have ever ever had... Fresh, warm, sweet potato donuts paired with a creamy pannacotta type dipping
bowl with caramel drizzles... I shared with the table and they all had the same reaction: "omg! These are
unbelievable!"
Service was just enough as well-- there when we needed it, not saccharin--just great.
Will definitely go back.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMSo happy we went!We were in saybrook for Easter weekend, staying at the Saybrook Inn, and I found Liv's on Open Table. We had a fabulous experience. The selection of oysters was amazing (I loved how they labeled them for you), service exception (very attentive yet not overbearing), the entrees very good (we split the tuna and scallop entrees). Delicious! The portions were perfect. The food is dee-lish and the whole experience is exceptional. We had the beets salad, the flat bread minus the bacon and the seered tuna. All dishes were excellent.
