Diner Reviews
  • "My wife and I eat no meat except fish, and we found the menu almost exclusively oriented toward meat eaters. Even the oyster and mussels starters had bacon or sausage, as did the one fish entree. There was a vegetarian special, an asian tofu dish, but we're not enthusiastic about tofu, so we settled for the fish dishes prepared without the meat. A little bland, but not bad. Although we love Livingston's ambience and location, I doubt that we'll return until they change the menu."

  • "I took my wife to the Livingston before the Lion King at the Fox. The food was excellent. The service quite good. We recommend the steak with potatoes and white asperagus. We also had breakfast the following day and the breakfast was very good. Service impeccable."

  • "Had a wonderful meal with a great server. Beautiful outside dining. So fun then off to the Fabulous Fox!"

  • "This is the second time eating here and both times we've had poor service. The first time we had dinner and then a show at the Fox. This last time we had lunch. Server wouldn't look us in the eye and only half took our order while walking by. Food took a long time coming out even though there were only a few other tables being served. Food was ok....not good enough to make up for the bad service. Really disappointing since the location/ambience is so nice. I don't think we will try it again as there as so many other restaurants to try out nearby."

  • "I chose the Livingston for brunch after seeing on their website that they offered a buffet specifically for the matinee shows at the Fox & had a Kid's menu. We arrived for our reservations only to be met at the door by staff saying that there would be no buffet today. The menu lacked quantity. I ordered the Quiche Lorraine that came with a shaved salad. It was barely warm when it arrived, tasted a bit stale and VERY dried up, very tasteless. The shaved salad was very plain and boring. My 4yr old said the cheeseburger he got was good. My 7yr old ordered chicken tenders, which were good, & a side of mac n cheese, which after only one bite, she could not eat. I tried it and it had a strong "onion" flavor to it!! Overpriced food & not tasty."

  • "A great spot for a pre-Fox Theatre meal. They were very accommodating with allergies & substitutions. Kat was sure to listen & understand our needs. Thank you."

  • "I had duck which was very dry and over cooked. Everything else....the sides with the duck, the cauliflower poppers, my wife's pork and the drinks....was excellent. Very pretty, contemporary restaurant. Right across the street from the Fox and great for pre show dinner. Very creative starters and dinners."

  • "This is the perfect place for dinner before a show at the Fox. Just give the staff a little courtesy and don't book too soon before a show. They always get jammed just before a show so a 2 hour reservation gives them time to get it right."

  • "we were attending a concert at the fox at 8:00 and we could only get reservations for 7:15--the hostess and others went out of their way to fit us in ten minutes early so that we did not feel rushed. It made all the difference and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience."

  • "This is a great place to eat before going to the Fox. Food is very good, service acceptable, wine list good without being over the top. They got us out fairly quickly and we made our show comfortably."

  • "Got there late, around 6:45p, and had concert across the street at 7:30. Ordered brussel sprouts & drink. Food was ok, fair. Service provided shredded parmeasean on request free of charge. I tipped well. Don't consider this a top gourmet spot, but great value for spot near Fox."

  • "We arrived at 6:20 for 6:30 reservation and were seated immediately. We had tickets for an 8PM show at the Fox and this was confirmed by the restaurant. We ordered a drink from bar and appetizer. These were delivered timely. We ordered our main course. Two friends joined us for a drink at our table. We explained to the server that they were not having any food. At 7:35 our waiter informed us that our tickets were up in the window. Several other tables were served and finished even though they were seated well after we were. We cancelled our main course. The manager offered us a dinner on him in the future, but for us there will not be a return visit for dinner."

  • "I loved the architecture and cocktails. I had the burger and fries which tasted wonderful. My husband had the duck and had to send it back because it was cold and my burger and fries were not super hot, but edible. This is a great people watching restuarant. The service was a little slow and we entered from the street as opposed from the hotel - the hostess stand was not manned and it took a few minutes to be seated for our reservation - 5 employees walked past us without helping. I would go back for the burger and close location to the Fox Theatre."

  • "Long story short, we arrived at 6:20. Left at 7:40 to make our show in time and they still didn't have our food on the table. Waited over an hour for our food. And yes we had a reservation, we were seated promptly and it was only 2 of us. Worst experience ever. Skip this place!!!!!!!"

  • "They were overwhelmed by the volume of customers in the bar but our waiter Eduardo was excellent!"

  • "When I booked the reservation, I had no idea it would be a buffet only. I was only aware that the restaurant was directly across from the Fox, which was perfect since we were seeing a show afterwards. I do not eat gluten and prefer to eat very healthily, which was not an option with this particular buffet - true southern breakfast and fried food."

  • "The hostess was the only good thing about the experience. She was very friendly and helpful. Otherwise, the food was cold. The biscuits were very dry. We had to keep trying to get the attention of the servers. One of the servers actually lifted up a bunch of grapes with his bare hand to transfer to a serving platter. Not my idea of healthy, relaxing dining that was fairly expensive for what we got."

  • "Marginal, which was our experience the first time we visited, as well..."

  • "We had a great dinner overlooking the marquee of the Fox! Just a lovely historic building! Great service, amazing food -- great for before a show at the Fox! We'll be back!"

  • "The menu has only a few selections. I appreciate the grass fed burger but almost everything is fried or heavily salted. How about a healthy something? The beet salad had maybe one small beet - the rest was goat cheese. They even fry the cauliflower. Really? Overly complicated combinations of fried foods."

  • "Livingstone has changed over the years...both management and food...mostly for the better. The bar is always abuzz, and the food is varied. In addition there is a menu geared to get you to the show on time. Overall, a good value for restaurateurs."

  • "The good was ok. Basically breakfast and fried chicken. A little odd, to us anyway. There was some fruit and a couple of small salads. The buffet wasn't replenished often enough, many empty servers. The service was horrible, really, really horrible. The proximity to the Fox is the only thing that would bring us back here. Sorry Livingston's."

  • "This was our first time. We were a bit apprehensive because of several negative service reviews. We had a fabulous dining experience. Our main Server, Jenny, was outstanding and all the support staft was great. They all worked as a team and kept us fully searved at all times before and during the meal without intruding. The food was great and the restaurant decoration is very tasteful. You should allow 2 hours before Fox show time for a relaxed drink and dinner. Parking at The Georgian Terrace hotel parking deck ( next to Livingston) is very convent and leaving after the show is as fast as can be expected. The previous negative service comments were either anomalies or the restaurant has corrected any service problems."

  • "Eating on the patio at Livingston's across from the Fox when you have tickets for an event is first prize. Fabulous ambience. Our server, Jaime, could not have been more helpful and fun. But we found it hard to find anything on the menu that sounded good. Very strange selections on the small plates, appetizers, and mains. We ended up getting the burger, which was very good, but this was a special date night and we were looking forward to a more formal, upscale dining experience... not settling for a burger. The chef should really look over the menu. Before you book, look at the menu on the restaurant's website and make sure there is something you will like. As an alternative, eat elsewhere earlier and come here for a drink on the patio."

  • "We've eaten at the restaurant a few times and none of them has been memorable. But, the experience last week will be my last. We arrived in time to eat and make the theatre and ordered about an hour before we needed to leave, but our food did not arrive for fifty minutes. Moreover, what as served was simply bad."

  • "Really enjoyed our dinner at Livingston before performance at Fox. Scallops were outstanding!"

  • "The main reason we ate here is it's across the street from the Fox where we to see a show. In the past we had an enjoyable time - really good food and service. Last night was not so good. They sat us at a very undesirable table, right by the kitchen with all the noise of pots and pans; the table was so large and wide, we could not hear ourselves to have a conversation. I asked to be moved and they made us wait there 20 minutes (while other people arrived and were seated at more desirable tables) before telling us "sorry, we can't move you". So I asked to speak to the manager. Initially he wasn't going to do a thing to help us then I asked what about upstairs (where it is definitely quieter), so reluctantly they moved us up there."

  • "I don't know whether the fault was completely with the kitchen or also with our server. However, we were very disappointed in our "Pre-Fox Theater" meal. We ordered cocktails and 6 appetizers/sides for the 2 of us. And asked the server to stagger when they were to be served. We received the first 3 quickly. However, the second round didn't arrive until we asked about them. And when they did, we weren't sure they were worth the wait. Nothing was caramelized about the brussel sprouts-bland and steamed. Never did find any meat on the rabbit legs. And the popcorn cauliflower was lack-luster at best. Luckily the show at The Fox was so great that we forgot our unfortunate kick-off to the evening. We won't be back."

  • "The Livingston serves fresh creative farm to table cuisine but could be a bit more ambitious. I had the sorghum and sea salt brick chicken which was very good. Brick pressed chicken with a sorghum and sea salt glaze served over white beans on top of turnip greens with ground sausage. More sorghum and salt would have made those flavors stand out a bit better and the sausage, which was supposed to be chorizo, had no bite - a hotter sausage would have worked better. The breads were good and don't miss the cake pan baked corn bread which is perfect for dipping sauces. We had heard service can be slow so got there at 5:30 with tickets for a 7:30 show at the Fox. Service slows down as the restaurant fills around 6 so get there early."

  • "receptionist very unprofessional,unfriendly- rude even, we were left waiting until 5 other groups arriving after us were seated at all the available window seats we had requested even though our arrival was exactly at our 6:45 reservation. no eye contact, not a single personal notice., she was very sour and made us feel uncomfortable waiting with no explanation or apologies. finally seated, our waiter was wonderful, ordered the scallops recommended by another reviewer, very good, custom drinks very good also,,, too bad the sour note with the sour reception. Next time will try another restaurant down the street. For the $100 spent, I would like to feel welcomed."

  • "I have entertained clients at Livingston's prior to Fox shows in the past. This visit was very disappointed. Ordered steaks and the guest that specifically wanted to make sure her steak was medium well with no red was delivered the steak of my client that had requested medium or medium rare. Nothing was offered by the restaurant to fix it and you could tell that neither wanted to create an issue when I asked if they wanted to get another steak. Prior to us finishing our dinner, there was never a mention of them mistake by any member of the staff--at least should have been acknowledged and maybe offer each of them a complimentary dessert, glass of wine or coffee. So disappointing."

  • "First time here and it was nice. Food... excellent...location...great. Our server was the worst. It was so bad I had to find him to ask for a refill of sweet tea. They were not busy and he was plainly not a very good server. Outside of that negative, the food was great and the location was perfect."
