Diner Reviews
  • "We thoroughly enjoyed Live Oak restaurant during our annual summer trip to Sea Pines in HHI. The special fish entree was excellently prepared and we are grateful for the knowledgeable waiter's guidance with menu selection. We enjoyed crab cake appetizer, fried green tomato appetizer, and a special spicy pulled pork dip that was delicious. Service was top-notch and ambiance fabulous. We appreciated the kids menu- our children noshed on grilled salmon, French green beans, and salad, plus enjoyed their dessert choice."

  • "Our family had previously enjoyed lunch and dinner at Live Oak but not breakfast. What a treat! Our 12 year old had waffles and our 11 year old had hot cakes, both off the regular menu, and couldn't stop raving about how good their meals were! My husband had a delicious egg white omelet and I had a tasty version of eggs Benedict. We will definitely be returning for Breakfast!"

  • "We dined at Live Oak our last night in Hilton Head and were looking forward to it after reading the reviews. I was a bit disappointed. I had asked if we could dine on the terrace and had requested this when I made the reservation. I was told that because it had rained earlier they put us inside at a window seat which was appreciated. We later saw several groups of people seated outside. The food is good, portions are average. I had the grouper special which was tasty and my husband had the filet. We each ordered salads and were told the dressings were not home made. We shared the peach cobble which was tasty. The restaurant is beautiful and the food was good but if I had to chose again I would have eaten elsewhere."

  • "the resort hit a home run with this new facility. The view from the veranda is wonderful and is the perfect compliment to the restaurant's stylish yet comfortable decor. Our server's enthusiasm for her job (ensuring a pleasurable dining experience) and pride in the Live Oak were obvious. The menu was well conceived to fit a range of tastes without sacrificing the local low country essence Live Oak is dedicated to incorporating into its dishes. Presentation was appealing for all courses and the food on par with expectations for a finer restaurant. The wine list was not expansive but very adequate. In addition I could not help but notice that there was a nice array of craft beer offerings featured that showed well thoughout menu pairing."

  • "My daughter and I were celebrating her passing specialty exams in her career field of work. We were recommended this resaurant by a friend. All of us are from a city from out of town, outside the area of Live Oak. We had to cancel a resevation at another resaurant to fit this one into our schedule. We have been to this locatin previously and have our favorites to return to. My daughter and I were agreeable to try a new dining experience, and especially one that came so highly rated. We were more than satisfied. We rate it as top. My daughter and I will definately return when we visit the area. We thought the food was delicious, the service outstanding and the atmosphere perfect. We would not change anything. Keep everything the same."

  • "Recently went to Live Oak with a friend for lunch. The menu was very interesting and creative. Service was especially excellent and the food was delectable. Tables are arranged so that the indoor dining room does not seem crowded and this allows for private conversation. This is a keeper!!"

  • "We enjoyed Live Oak to celebrate our 50th anniversary with our family. We had a party of 8, from St Louis, Chicago, and Northern California, including two young boys (7and 11). We were seated in the private room adjoining the bar; that proved to be a brilliant choice. We received excellent service and were able to insulate ourselves from the hustle and bustle of the bar and main dining room. That enabled us to play word games, etc. to include the boys , in a way that would have not been possible in the main room (though that looked appealing for an adult gathering). The food was quite good. When/if we return to Sea Pines, we will definitely seek out Live Oak again."

  • "The food was good. Not great. The preparations sounded better than they actually were. Except for the fried chicken which was an excellent dish. Cocktails were good. Wine list average. The kitchen was slow and the server not very attentive. They view is excellent and the overall atmosphere is pleasing."

  • "This was our first visit to HHI, and browsing through the Taste of Hilton Head magazine we came upon the ad for Live Oak. As we were going to be at Sea Pines anyway we decided to try it. Great food, with a few creative twists. The service was outstanding - very attentive, informative and helpful. The wine list is impressive, as is the list of craft beers. We were surprised to hear that the restaurant had only been open for 3 months. It was a great dinner for our first meal on the island."

  • "This is a brand new restaurant- so new that the security guard at the Sea Pines gate hadn't even heard if it. The building is absolutely gorgeous. The decor is simple, cool, clean modern "beach house" charm with its gorgeous repurposed hard wood floors, huge windows, and lovely setting on a golf course and lagoon. The menu is based on local foods, farm to table, and meats from humanely farmed animals. The wine list is quite good with a huge selection of quality wines by the glass. Service was lovely and wait staff generous and accommodating."

  • "Our family has traveled to Hilton Head for 20+ years and know the Island well. The Live Oak is a new, pleasant surprise. The restaurant has a very classic feel with a touch of elegance. The menu fulfilled every expectation and satisfied everyone in our party. The view is picturesque. The wait staff was professional, friendly and congenial. We would recommend for any special dining experience."

  • "The lovely decor of this restaurant was a real pleasure and the views over the Sea Pines golf course were spectacular however, neither of these features were edible. My fried green tomato appetizer ($9) was miniscule, about the size of a silver dollar and the tomatoes were red, not the crisp, tangy green. The filet mignon was poorly grilled and barely warm and served with a side of steak sauce which was better than the steak. The dried out Youkon gold mashed potatoes were piped onto the plate, and very easy to ignore. A veggie side of red cabbage was equally tasteless. The yellow beets in the beet salad were gray. It was easy to leave without coffee or desert. Our Hendricks martinis we good but at $27.00 for 2 singles, they should be!"

  • "The chef must be some kind of a genius. Every plate from the salad to the bread basket to the entres was complex and absolutely delicious"

  • "Live Oak is a beautiful restaurant, comfortable, relaxing, attractive with good food. The cheese and crackers which are gratis are very nice. However, do not order the fried green tomatoes for $9. The small serving is ridiculous . I spoke to the manager about the cost and the translucent 3 tomatoes and he said there have been complaints. If so ,why continue to serve these. I was surprised he did not take the cost off of the bill. I have eaten there twice in the last month but not satisfying the customer might lead me to choose another restaurant for lunch. I felt,it would have been good business to do so and am surprised by his lack of business knowledge."

  • "This is such an improvement to the whole Sea Pines experience. It has always been a wonderful place to vacation but this, as well as the other improvements to the resort, make it even more special. Kudos to the Goodwin family for investing millions into a magical place."

  • "Had breakfast and dinner here and both were outstanding . Waite staff very professional and friendly.Brand new restaurant but they have everything under control . Highly recommend if you don't like hustle and bustle of touristy overcrowded restaurants. Price very comparable to others."

  • "Ambiance was fantasists! Everything was great! My only small complaint was that our waiter wasn't fully versed when it came to the menu. He had to go back and ask someone else about pretty basic menu questions, and he constantly had to refer to his notes (flipping back and forth from a notepad...a little distracting). Otherwise, a fantastic anniversary meal, with a STUNNING view. We will definitely go back!"

  • "It's a shame that such a beautiful, new restaurant has such bad food. The pizzas ordered were horrible. The fried chicken was cafetaria quality. The desserts--red velvet cheesecake and brownie were inedible. We seek out restaurants with excellent food, and therefore, will not be going near "Live Oak" again. Go to Sage Room, Vine and Charlie's E'toile instead. The service was average and inattentive."

  • "We have eaten twice at Live Oak and have had outstanding food and service both times. We recommended it to friends, and they took their family of 11 there. They've already decided to make that the venue for their yearly family vacation (upscale ) dinner. The staff has been well trained and extremely courteous to the patrons. We'll be back!"

  • "This restaurant is new and beautiful. The views of the golf course are so pretty. We did not expect the food and service to be as outstanding as it was given that it was at a golf course! We dined inside but when the temps cool down a bit, it would be perfect to sit outside for dinner. Great offerings on the menu. We will definitely return."

  • "A very unique ceiling with a beautiful view of the course. The service was over the top with waiter James and helper Joycln. The food was delicious, started with fried oysters wonderful, crab cake mostly crab, fresh fish, pork chops, way too full for desert though. A must try for those who appreciate a beautiful presentation !!! B"

  • "Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drink. The place has lovely views of the golf course and is comfortably furnished. The food was delicious and portions were a nice size. I'm not a fan of "leftovers" and the meal was just the correct size to eat at one sitting. Try their shrimp and grits - had a nice kick and the shrimp were cooked perfectly and there were plenty of them."

  • "This was our family's first visit to Live Oak and will definitely NOT be our last! Our evening was timed perfectly by the wait staff so that we could savor appetizers, soup/salad and then our dinners at our own pace. The Beet salad is FAB and the steaks melted in our mouths. Our 2 daughters tried & loved the Chicken Gumbo soup and Southern Fried Chicken meal for dinner. We even returned for lunch later in our trip and again found the wait staff and food to be excellent! We had a spectacular view of the sunset over the golf course as well. We have other family members visiting Hilton Head for July 4th and told them to get their reservations immediately. If you're in Hilton Head, DON'T MISS THIS RESTAURANT!"

  • "A nice addition to the Hilton Head dining scene. The room and setting is awesome, and service was very good. It was a little quiet when we arrived at 6pm as only 3 other tables were occupied. Our meals were excellent, Shrimp and Grit and Lamb Chops. Portions are a reasonable size. I think the menu is great overall, and the chef gladly accommodated my wife's dietary requests. It seems to complement the other restaurant offerings inside Sea Pines as the majority are family friendly."

  • "We loved the Lowcountry-inspired cuisine at Live Oak. My fiancé had the gourmet fried chicken, which he enjoyed (although I recommend ordering one of their other specialty menu items, preferably seafood since you're in Hilton Head by the ocean). I had the Seafood Pappardelle Pasta, which had the best grilled scallops I've ever had, shrimp cooked to perfection and some lump crab meat. The sauce for the pasta was delicious, and the portion was just right. The waitress was very helpful and kind, and the wait staff offered to move our outdoor table a little so it was out of the sunshine and we were still able to sit outside. We sat on the deck, which was gorgeous with its view of the pristine golf course. We loved Live Oaks!"
