Diner Reviews
  • "Very good Chinese food and pretty inside. We like it there!"

  • "Read the title of the review. That's really all you need to know."

  • "The good was presented beautifully but it was blah. The server Completly forgot the order brought us something completely different than what we ordered then looked at us like we did not know what we ordered."

  • "We have been to Little Szechuan twice and have been very impressed with the food both times. There is such a huge variety that the most timid to the most adventurous of eaters can find something, and everything we tried was perfectly executed. The flavors are more nuanced than at most other Chinese restaurants, and the food is also visually very appealing - even on the menu, which has photos of most of the entrees. The waiter is very knowledgeable about the menu. The food arrived almost surprisingly quickly. The place has a nice upscale feel, and you will spend a couple more dollars than you would at your neighborhood Chinese carryout restaurant, but the difference in quality is apparent at the first taste."

  • "It has very good Asian food. Especially Egg drop soup is fantastic. Food is good."

  • "Beautiful interior. They ran out of lettuce so we couldn't get additional lettuce for our lettuce wraps. The white rice was hard. They charge for tea which should be complimentary. Most of the food was either too salty or bland. But if you want something spicy, they can definitely make it spicy for you. Some servers are nice, others are a bit terse and rude."

  • "We enjoyed our experience here because it is not typical American Chinese food. The menu is expansive and everything looks very interesting. We asked our server for recommendations and he was very leery to recommend anything "too spicy." We did end up getting one of the "too spicy" dishes and didn't really find it to be that spicy. We had the dan dan noodles, diced fish with chili peppers, and the chung kind chili chicken. Everything had a pleasant heat to it and was very flavorful. The portions are very generous- we had enough for both of us to have leftovers the next day. Overall a good experience and we would definitely return."

  • "We've been here a couple of times. Lovely food, good service, and a nice looking space."

  • "Great selection of Szechuan dishes. Nice and spicy with variety of seafood, meat, poultry dishes."

  • "We have always enjoyed Little Szechuan (University Ave) and with their closure went to West End. We were disappointed with the food - overly salty and didn't seem as authentic as what we have experienced in other visits. Our server was attentive, but indicated there were communication issues with the staff resulting in some service issues. We miss the TRUE Little Szechuan."

  • "Food has been consistently good but the service inconsistent. Need to work on the timing of courses as it all comes out haphazardly. One entree arrived with appetizer, next two much later."

  • "The food at Little Szechuan is fabulous. The ingredients are top notch, the flavors are authentically Szechuaneze, and the kitchen team is well trained. There is no better Chinese food in the Twin Cities. Then there is the rest of the equation. The atmosphere is elegant and understated. If you do decide to dine in, ask for a table. The booths are so far apart that an average size person is about 18 inches away from the table - very uncomfortable. But I recommend taking the food to go. The service is mediocre: it took over 10 minutes to get drinks from the bar (and they were not worth the wait). And our food came out all together in spite of having asked for the meal to be coursed. Same thing has happened two straight visits."

  • "I've heard a lot about Little Szechuan so we decided to try it after a movie. I really don't get all the hype. We ordered Taste of Szechuan chicken which was just average and a little dry (with NO veggies), and the Geleshan Chicken. The Geleshan Chicken is supposed to be one of the spiciest dishes on the menu but all it is, is badly fried small chicken cubes (not spicy) tossed with 100 dried chilies that are too tough and dry to actually eat. Honestly, we've had more flavorful meals at Leanne Chin. Even the fried rice was bland. My advice is to skip it."

  • "We celebrated our son's graduation with our family. Service was excellent and the food was delicious! We will definitely consider Little Szechuan for future dining. Only disappointment was that they do not offer salads as a meal option."

  • "The food was hit or miss. Most dishes were fantastic , best Chinese food I've ever had. Some were just ok. Quality ingredients but it is expensive. Overall this is a great place especially for a group. However the service was not polished. The waiter got drinks mixed up. We had to beg to have them refilled, was just not attentive at all and the restaurant was not all that busy. The restaurant itself has a beautiful ambiance and I would recommend . Will try again in the future. "

  • "We were a group of 8, at the last minute, and were assigned a large round table, a little bit off of the main area. It was great, we could hear each other and felt like we had our own little party going, only we didn't have to do any of the work. The waiter was very nice."

  • "Generously sized portions. Decent wine list. Very tasty entrees. I've visited this location as well as the St. Paul location numerous times and have always had a good meal here."

  • "This food isn't produced in hurry and rushed out of the kitchen. You can tell they care about quality. The presentation was tight and all the selections we tried were truly excellent. Especially for vegetarians - their tofu dishes are amazing."
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "This was our second visit. The food is excellent and the menu is beautifully presented with photos. Although this did not happen on our first visit, we did wait an unusual amount of time between our soups and the entrees. No explanation was given and the wait staff did not inform us that "your food will be here soon". We just waited, and waited, and waited. Also, pass on the Green Dragon martini: small and strange."

  • "service was friendly and professional. We felt genuinely welcome and appreciated. Food was better than run-of-the-mill szechwan and beautifully presented. Interesting flavors in every dish we tried."

  • "Great food and great variety of authentic Chinese dishes and more mainstream staples. Wonderful flavors, not afraid to make spicy dishes spicy. Wonderful service and very convenient location!"

  • "My main course (sizzling rice with 3 delights) was quite good, but my appetizer (spring rolls) was mostly lettuce and way too big to eat easily. My friend loved her main course (shrimp lo mein) but she said her appetizer (egg roll) was bland. Server was polite, but it ignored us a bit too often."
    Dined on 3/11/2014
  • "Timing of service was off as the meal came about 2 mniutes after the appetizer was delivered to the table. Egg roll was over fried, and not edible. One of the 3 main dishes was cold."

  • "Food was very good an flavorful, portions were adequate and the service was better than average. We will return."

  • "The first time I dined at Little Szechuan the tastes were music to my palette! I especially love the Little Szechuan Potato Fries! I have yet to try all the dishes, and what I have tried I have been satisfied! I am looking forward to my next dinner at Little Szechuan!"

  • "I was not impressed with the food. It was expensive for lunch and not all that flavorful. Additionally, one of our party ordered gluten-free food (both appetizer and entree). Both of them had to be returned to the kitchen when they arrived at the table and had not been prepared gluten-free."

  • "we loved everything about this place - free parking, fun, modern atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff and the FOOD - was incredible. We had the chicken with broccoli and the kung pow chicken. Both were fantastic. We are both planning to go back soon. It's my new favorite place!"

  • "I haven't been impressed at all with Chinese food in the Twin Cities and my first and last visit to Little Szechuan on University Ave. was not good. We asked for the waiter's recommendations and got the standard fare "American" style food. Not so at this St. Louis Park location. Our waiter was quite knowledgeable about the menu and made excellent recommendations. Everything was quite good."

  • "This was our first time to this restaurant, we decided to come here because there have been great write ups about how good the food is here. We just moved to the area so had to try it out. The host was amazing and sat us right away even though we were 15 minutes early for our reservation. The waitress was not so good. She could have made our night had she been on top of her game. The orange chicken was really good. My husband had the crispy duck which was good but needed a sauce. The restaurant was very elegant and a nice atmosphere."

  • "We ate here on New Years Eve because it was close to the movie theatre and we scored! The specialty martini's were above average and set the tone for a great meal to come.To start out with the menu includes high quality photo's.You can view everything on the menu and get a much better idea of what your ordering then a simple written description. The photo's looked so good we ordered an extra entree and an appetizer because we couldn't decide. I am pleased to report the food looked even better when it arrived! Outstanding presentation of the fried Tilapia! The flavors were complex with lots of contrast between dishes making for a great meal. Our server(Diana)was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu and she made our evening perfect!"

  • "there was 4 in our party. the place was fairly empty when we arrived. our food took an unusually long time to get to our table, considering we ordered shortly after we arrived. first, they brought out 2 of the 4 dishes, then another one arrived about 3 or 4 minutes after the first two. the 4th entrée arrived close to 15 minutes after the 3rd. 2 of the dishes were the exact same dish (Mongolian beef) but one dish looked as though it was meant as a childrens portion, very sparse. we asked our wait person, who was just lovely, and she got the "manager" (I use that term loosely) who did nothing but apologize. we ended up getting 50 % off of 2 dishes. very poor customer service, will not go back or recommend this place."

  • "Little Szechuan is a very attractive restaurant with excellent service. I think the food is just average compared to other Asian restaurants with less bling. Many others in their category offer more exciting and better prepared food, especially for the prices being charged. That said, if you are in West End and looking for this kind of food you won't have a bad experience, just not an outstanding one. It is not a destination restaurant and can be bettered by a host of smaller, simpler places on University Ave. in St. Paul, or the Rainbow Chinese and Chin Dian in Minneapolis."

  • "Went for a movie & T-giving dinner because it was the only West End restaurant open on T-giving (think "Christmas Story"). We had avoided this place previously because of friends that did not suggest it. We took the risk & had a great experience! We had a Chinese twist on a t- giving meal: honey duck (no head included ;), sweet potato cakes (sticky, dense and yummy), beans (savory goodness), pot stickers (hearty & tasty), and the Taste of Szechewan chicken- extra mild (awesome flavor that you can add your own spice/heat to,f you wish). It was a cold night & 2 hot sakes, a spiked hot cider & mocktail completed the meal. Great, personable service and memorable meal for 3 people under $100."
