A word from Little Sister
Little Sister features East-meets-West inspired dishes served in a
relaxed social environment that feels more residential than
restaurant, as if you're being invited into the Chef Tin's home.
Little Sister's menu showcases Chef Tin's take on one of the more
interesting and rich collisions of food and culture that was borne out
of the European colonization of Southeast Asia. Dishes blend and
balance the spices and flavors of Southeast Asia with French
techniques and Dutch and British colonial influences. The menu is
continually and progressively evolving, reflecting inspiration and the
seasons. Chef Tin curates the restaurant's wine and beverage program
with a focus on intriguing labels, both domestically and from around
the world. Craft beer selection includes special batches from The
Brewery at Abigaile, brewed only for the restaurant.

Despite the rather high noise level, we enjoyed a peak hour dining experience at this tiny restaurant. Beef tartare was outstanding, as were the scallops in coconut. beautiful cheese menu. Next time will try a dessert trio. Thrilled to have this one so close to home.

I love the chef's other restaurant Abigaile. Waitstaff were nice, recommended dishes. Perhaps they should have indicated or asked if we liked very spicy food. The first two dishes were tasty but the second two were so spicy I could not tell anything else. And is typical the noise level was very high.

Although the food we ordered was delicious, I'm not sure I will ever return to Little Sister or recommend it to anyone. I have two major complaints. First, while we dined early (6:15), the noise level quickly became absolutely unbearable. My dining companion and I, seated across from each other at a small table, could not even have a conversation. Second, as a person who eats fish and seafood, but not meat or poultry, I was very disappointed by the lack of options on the menu. There wasn't, for example, a single noodle dish that didn't include meat. And there is almost nothing on the menu for people who are vegetarians.

The food was exceptional and very different. The quality of the ingredients was fresh and everything was very tasty. The fish, similar to seabass, seemed overpriced for the size of the portion. It was good, sauce a little salty but portions could have been twice as large for $33.

Little sister is the best of the best when it comes to the LA food scene. Tucked away in Manhattan beach, it has the menu to compete with giants such as MB Post and the ambiance that is fit for any occasion. Plus great music! I believe it's dr dre pandora radio station. Must haves are the lemongrass and shaky shaky beef

Our first visit to Little Sister was for our anniversary, which was ignored by the restaurant staff, although it was mentioned on the reservation. The space is small and intimate, by which I mean we could too easily follow the conversation of our next table neighbors, who were clearly in a first date. Service was quite good, as were our server's recommendations. We started with duck sate, which was outstanding, although the "side order" of fried okra(also quite good) was actually served first. The duck was on a bed of caramelized pear, and was sweet and tasty. This was accompanied by a grilled prawn "salad," which was spicy and contained green papaya slaw. Our main dishes were Imperial roll (crab & duck) and shaky shaky beef, outstanding!

First time dining here and impressed with the taste and quality of food. The only problem was that they brought our dishes in a random haphazard fashion so none of our party were able to eat at the same time. I can handle this with shared appetizers but not with entrees. Need some organization on the kitchen!

I think they had a waiter fail to show. When they got to us, they were extremely nice, and even brought a couple of sides we hadn't ordered as a treat to make it up to us, but which then showed up on the bill. I didn't even bother to try to get it corrected, as it was time to leave and nothing was happening smoothly. Food was interesting, unusual, some of it good.

First time here - we came with a group of 3. 2 adults and one food-centric child. It was fantastic - we went with a lot of the waitress' recommendations. 2 entrees and a couple of appetizers between three was the perfect amount of food. The crack noodles were fantastic, as was dessert, and the shaky shaky beef. Dessert is a great way to taste a few different items - our favorite was the strawberry brown butter cake. Fantastic! A must try in Manhattan Beach.

We love the little tweaks to the various southeast and east asian dishes they serve. We had the scallop hot pot dish with red Bhutanese rice, and it's outstanding! The duck was great, as were the Spring Rolls. But the desserts are absolutely to die for. We always order the 3-for $10 combo, and there's never a crumb left over.

Great find in Manhattan Beach. With so many choices it can be hard to make a decision on where to got. We definitely made the right choice. The space is intimate, modern but also very welcoming, not sterile as some modern spaces can be. We sat at the bar and Raquel our bartender was knowledgeable and attentive. She gave fantastic recommendations both for wine choices and food choices. The food was fantastic, unique Asian food with delicious sauces, lime chili, banana ketchup, shaky shaky beef sauce. I am a sauce girl and I was not disappointed. Check out the Little Sister, you'll love the saucy staff and food!

First time diners based on a recommendation from our son who lives nearby. Loved the tapas / shared plate concept. The shaky, shaky beef was outstanding. Must have!! The sweet clams (and the broth) were excellent as well. Called for an extra order of baguette. Sam, our server, was able to provide an off menu item called thin egg noodles with crispy pork bits. Our party of 4 had 9 plates of menu items plus a 3 choice desert. All outstanding. We're back the next time we visit Manhattan Beach.

Like the space and our server was nice & attentive. Desserts were the stand-out. Enjoyed the food overall. I would have liked more spice, heat in the dishes. Especially enjoyed the grilled pork spring roll, okra curry & the larb. The Saigon lemongrass beef needs more lemongrass/flavor. It is nice to go with a group, so you can try a number of dishes.

Our dining experience was punctuated by the careful explanation(s) that our server provided to all of our many questions. She had extreme patience with one member of our small party who needed lots of TLC. Although the table seating was cozy, the restaurant management might consider replacing the vintage school house desk chairs with a larger, more comfortable choice.

This small restaurant in the heart of Manhattan Beach manages to pull together a variety of Thai and Vietnamese dishes in a way that is true to the original inspirations as well as gratifying to Westernized tastes. The high quality of the food and the exacting carefulness of the cooking are key. Scallops with red rice and the side of green pea tendrils were both hits at our table. This is a very popular place, so make reservations early.

We went to Little Sister after my wife read a newspaper review, and since it was her birthday, she wanted to trying something new. It was an interesting experience. Good people watching, but inside, and out the window. The not so good is the following. It was very noisy - as a lot of people like. We asked to have the music turned down a bit, which helped. The food, though different, and different, was too spicy for us. Indigestion resulted. I would recommend you also have a few more not spicy items on the menu. The only one we found were the rolls.

Going here was adventurous as I've never been to a fusion restaurant, nor have I ever had French dining. Our waiter was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, especially about the wines. Nice cozy dining spot which wasn't noisy, despite there being an event on the beach and most of the parking being taken. I would've benefited more from the menu if I hadn't restricted my diet to vegetarian for the week, but I will definitely be back again when I can consume meat. I've recommended the place to my friends already. My only critique would be that it was difficult to flag down waitstaff even in a small environment.

I HAD MADE A RESERVATION FOR 4 PEOPLE AT 7:00PM 10 DAYS PRIOR TO OUR VISIT. I RECEIVED A CALL AT 6:15 PM TELLING ME THAT I WAS LATE. LITTLE SISTERS MANIPULATED MY RESERVATION. WHEN WE ARRIVED AT 7:00 THEY PROCEEDED TO INFORM OUR PARTY THAT THE ONLY PLACE THEY COULD ACCOMMODATE US WAS AT THE BAR. THIS WAS NOT MY INTENT WHEN YOU BOOK YOUR RESERVATION 10 DAYS OUT TO SIT UP TO THE BAR. ON SUNDAY I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE RESTAURANT ASKING ME HOW OUR EXPERIENCE WAS. VERY DISAPPOINTED. If you are just a bit adventerous and open to trying something different (nothing crazy - no brains or bugs!) then do yourself a favor and make a reservation to dine at Little Sister. I suggest you invite another couple so you can order a larger variety and experience even more of their wonderful creations. We had to work around a food alergy - our server was amazing. Extremely knowledgable, made wonderful recommendations and although we skipped a few dishes that Iwill definately try on my next visit, the variety we ordered was perfect. At this time, they can only offer wine and beer, so if that bothers you, hit one of the local joints for a cocktail first, then head over for a great dining experience. You'll be glad you did.

The food at this place is great - varied complex flavors and textures. And I really liked the IPA from some place called “Abigaile” which I now know is the restaurant of which this place is the “Little Sister” ... a mystery I would not have even thought about without the beer! The salt-n-peppah lobstuh was amazingly amazingly good! And loved a crepe you can wrap pieces of in lettuce leaves! The place is 15 min from LAX, and they say they’ll keep the kitchen open past 10 if the place is busy. Reservations go to 9:30. So stop by after you pick up your car on arrival. Or after you go to LAX for your CBP “Global Entry” program interview ....

She tried really hard to find suitable wines for our entre selection and palate preferences. The food was great, although it was a bit pricey.
