A word from Little Sister
Little Sister features East-meets-West inspired dishes served in a
relaxed social environment that feels more residential than
restaurant, as if you're being invited into the Chef Tin's home.
Little Sister's menu showcases Chef Tin's take on one of the more
interesting and rich collisions of food and culture that was borne out
of the European colonization of Southeast Asia. Dishes blend and
balance the spices and flavors of Southeast Asia with French
techniques and Dutch and British colonial influences. The menu is
continually and progressively evolving, reflecting inspiration and the
seasons. Chef Tin curates the restaurant's wine and beverage program
with a focus on intriguing labels, both domestically and from around
the world. Craft beer selection includes special batches from The
Brewery at Abigaile, brewed only for the restaurant.

Diner Reviews
  • "Great find in Manhattan Beach. With so many choices it can be hard to make a decision on where to got. We definitely made the right choice. The space is intimate, modern but also very welcoming, not sterile as some modern spaces can be. We sat at the bar and Raquel our bartender was knowledgeable and attentive. She gave fantastic recommendations both for wine choices and food choices. The food was fantastic, unique Asian food with delicious sauces, lime chili, banana ketchup, shaky shaky beef sauce. I am a sauce girl and I was not disappointed. Check out the Little Sister, you'll love the saucy staff and food!"

  • "I made a reservation for 5:45pm as open table said all later times were booked. When I got there and for about an hour after it was completed dead/ empty. It is odd that I couldn't eat later when it was really empty. Other than that, I enjoyed my meal."

  • "First time diners based on a recommendation from our son who lives nearby. Loved the tapas / shared plate concept. The shaky, shaky beef was outstanding. Must have!! The sweet clams (and the broth) were excellent as well. Called for an extra order of baguette. Sam, our server, was able to provide an off menu item called thin egg noodles with crispy pork bits. Our party of 4 had 9 plates of menu items plus a 3 choice desert. All outstanding. We're back the next time we visit Manhattan Beach."

  • "Like the space and our server was nice & attentive. Desserts were the stand-out. Enjoyed the food overall. I would have liked more spice, heat in the dishes. Especially enjoyed the grilled pork spring roll, okra curry & the larb. The Saigon lemongrass beef needs more lemongrass/flavor. It is nice to go with a group, so you can try a number of dishes."

  • "Had a great experience here at Little Sister MB. Waitress and hostess were very nice and helpful! Food was amazing and I will definitely be back!"

  • "Our dining experience was punctuated by the careful explanation(s) that our server provided to all of our many questions. She had extreme patience with one member of our small party who needed lots of TLC. Although the table seating was cozy, the restaurant management might consider replacing the vintage school house desk chairs with a larger, more comfortable choice."

  • "Loud music. And louder diners as the drinks flow. Difficult to have a conversation with fellow diners."

  • "This small restaurant in the heart of Manhattan Beach manages to pull together a variety of Thai and Vietnamese dishes in a way that is true to the original inspirations as well as gratifying to Westernized tastes. The high quality of the food and the exacting carefulness of the cooking are key. Scallops with red rice and the side of green pea tendrils were both hits at our table. This is a very popular place, so make reservations early."

  • "We have been to Little Sister on a couple of occasions. The service staff was very friendly. The food is is colorful and a mix of a few Asian styles. The food is full of flavor and is meant to be shared."

  • "We went to Little Sister after my wife read a newspaper review, and since it was her birthday, she wanted to trying something new. It was an interesting experience. Good people watching, but inside, and out the window. The not so good is the following. It was very noisy - as a lot of people like. We asked to have the music turned down a bit, which helped. The food, though different, and different, was too spicy for us. Indigestion resulted. I would recommend you also have a few more not spicy items on the menu. The only one we found were the rolls."

  • "Going here was adventurous as I've never been to a fusion restaurant, nor have I ever had French dining. Our waiter was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, especially about the wines. Nice cozy dining spot which wasn't noisy, despite there being an event on the beach and most of the parking being taken. I would've benefited more from the menu if I hadn't restricted my diet to vegetarian for the week, but I will definitely be back again when I can consume meat. I've recommended the place to my friends already. My only critique would be that it was difficult to flag down waitstaff even in a small environment."

  • "If you are just a bit adventerous and open to trying something different (nothing crazy - no brains or bugs!) then do yourself a favor and make a reservation to dine at Little Sister. I suggest you invite another couple so you can order a larger variety and experience even more of their wonderful creations. We had to work around a food alergy - our server was amazing. Extremely knowledgable, made wonderful recommendations and although we skipped a few dishes that Iwill definately try on my next visit, the variety we ordered was perfect. At this time, they can only offer wine and beer, so if that bothers you, hit one of the local joints for a cocktail first, then head over for a great dining experience. You'll be glad you did."

  • "The food at this place is great - varied complex flavors and textures. And I really liked the IPA from some place called “Abigaile” which I now know is the restaurant of which this place is the “Little Sister” ... a mystery I would not have even thought about without the beer! The salt-n-peppah lobstuh was amazingly amazingly good! And loved a crepe you can wrap pieces of in lettuce leaves! The place is 15 min from LAX, and they say they’ll keep the kitchen open past 10 if the place is busy. Reservations go to 9:30. So stop by after you pick up your car on arrival. Or after you go to LAX for your CBP “Global Entry” program interview ...."

  • "This is a shared plate eatery, so make sure you don't go w someone w conflicting dietary needs. Our waitress was amazing at tolerating and accommodating vegetarian, dairy and shellfish allergies. She tried really hard to find suitable wines for our entre selection and palate preferences. The food was great, although it was a bit pricey. I love the Gastropub vibe inside despite being tucked in a corner. I would definitely go back. There were a million meat dishes I wanted to try!"

  • "Good food but they were out of a certain items even at 7:15. Server was very slow and confused our order a bit - looked like he had too many tables."

  • "This was my first time eating at Little Sister. The ambience was great and our server friendly, accommodating and her suggestions were spot on. Overall every dish we ordered was great. We especially loved the springs rolls and lobster. I will definitely go back and would recommend it to everyone."

  • "Way, way too salty, spicy, and oily. Although to their credit, when we complained about the shaky beef, they took it back and did not charge us. The waitress Christina was superb."

  • "We came for lunch and there were only 2 other parties. One of them was VERY needy and took most the waiters time. I felt bad because you could tell he didn't want to be rude and wanted to wait on the other tables but the guests keep talking to him. Once he was able to break away, we let him know this was our first time here and he was happy to provide his recommendations, which I always appreciate. We ordered the imperial rolls to start and then the shaky shaky beef and bah mi for main course. They were all excellent although the shaky shaky beef was very overpriced even for the quality. We didn't get any drinks and with tip still spent over $75 for 2 meals and one app."

  • "Food was very nice especially the shrimp with papaya salad but the noise level at 8:15 was unbearable. Have been to the restaurant 3 times total, but this time I have to say was intolerable because of the noise. It was both the talking and the loud music. Couldnt hear the people across the table, let alone the waiter. Sat at a window seat. I don't think I will be back. Its too bad"

  • "Little Sister has been a great addition to the Southbay! I love sharing multiple small plates so we get to taste a great variety of different dishes. The Lobster with the head/body made into fried rice is a must and I was excited to see the soft shell crab banh mi back on the menu. I wish there were more vegetable options but that is a minor issue. Looking for ward to my next meal there!"

  • "The service was simply outstanding from the moment we set foot in this local gem. Unfortunately, even after we eliminated any "spicy" item from our possibilities, everything we ultimately ordered was still too spicy. Despite the service and wonderful flavors, the fire like burn in our mouth was just annoying after awhile. If we decide to return we'll just opt for sauces that are sweeter and not take a chance on what the chef might think is mild."

  • "You can smell the spices when you walk in. Very different menu. Love it when the waitress will confidently pick out a meal for you, and be right!"

  • "I have been to Little Sister now a few times and have tried something new each time. The menu is a little overwhelming as there are so many delicious choices, but the waiting staff is always ready with recommendations which have been spot on. We like to go out to places where we can eat family style so at Little Sister we all just order lots of different dishes and share. At our last visit, my teens liked the Shaky, Shaky Beef, I loved the bream. The side of jasmine rice is a definite must. The atmosphere is noisy. and the dress is "beach hip" (jeans or shorts with a nicer shirt for my boys and husband, cute outfits for my daughter and me. I totally recommend this place."

  • "I enjoyed my dinner at Little Sister. For what it is, as an Asian Fusion restaurant, it delivered great service and delicious food. I wouldn't say the food was spectacular given that I would prefer to go to to a Vietnamese restaurant in Gardena or Westminister for the same dish without the presentation fuss or service quality, but for 1/2 the price and just as delicious. But if you are opting for both ambiance, service and good food at the same time, then this place is great for that."

  • "There are a lot of "boutique-y" restaurants in Manhattan Beach that people assume are good because it's a nice area. But the dishes are very thoughtful, savory, and are definitely worth going back for. A few items are a little over priced, but it's probably because that's the standard in the area. A small, but fun atmosphere that I will definitely return to."

  • "Little Sister and its sister Dia de Campo are marvelous neighborhood eateries. I love the salt and pepper lobster as well as the very tender shaky shaky beef! De-lish. Christina is the best server around. She knows her stuff especially the wines."

  • "Little Sister hits it out of the park on all fronts. The service was outstanding and the food was like nothing I've experienced before. Asian Fusion with a heavy dose of European influence—every dish was an adventure. Not to be missed are the Imperial egg rolls, salt and pepper lobster and an incredible beef tartare. The latter is a dish I will dream of for a very long time. It takes a chef with a clear vision to pull off a menu like this which blends various Asian cuisines (Vietnamese, Thai, Laotian, etc.) seemlessly with classic technique. Hats off to Little Sister for a fabulous meal. P.S. Don't miss the Vietnamese iced coffee."

  • "Food at Little Sister is so creative and tasty. We definitely recommend the crispy imperial rolls (shrimp, crab, pork, glass noodles, crushed peanuts) served with lettuce (for wraps) and dipping sauce, and the carmelized pork shanks. The petite pastry plate comes with a choice of three items. We picked the plum pistachio frangipane tart, honey lavendar creme brulee and green tea gelato with dark chocolate sauce...all yummy. Wine prices are on the pricey side, especially for totally unknown labels. Our server was friendly, attentive, and helpful in describing dishes. The downside was the noise level. This place is energetic enough without the loud music. Carrying on a conversation, even at a table for 2, is almost impossible."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "Great food, good service, but the wine list is a gouge with at least a 350% mark up from retail on lots of bottles. A white at $90! Really? Maybe Burgundy but not Napa! The music is great if you wear your pants low around your butt, but most certainly it's not pleasant. Now the chef and his food are so interesting I will put up with the downside again to keep exploring a truly memorable menu. Unfortunately, not a place to go for a romantic meal, or anything where talking at the table with your fellow dinners is important to you. As for the service, it was attentive, helpful, and very pleasant. The price of the food is a bargain, so that offsets my feeling about the wine list prices, plus I'm sure the rent is astronomical in that location."
