A word from Little Sister
Little Sister features East-meets-West inspired dishes served in a
relaxed social environment that feels more residential than
restaurant, as if you're being invited into the Chef Tin's home.
Little Sister's menu showcases Chef Tin's take on one of the more
interesting and rich collisions of food and culture that was borne out
of the European colonization of Southeast Asia. Dishes blend and
balance the spices and flavors of Southeast Asia with French
techniques and Dutch and British colonial influences. The menu is
continually and progressively evolving, reflecting inspiration and the
seasons. Chef Tin curates the restaurant's wine and beverage program
with a focus on intriguing labels, both domestically and from around
the world. Craft beer selection includes special batches from The
Brewery at Abigaile, brewed only for the restaurant.

  • "We came for lunch and there were only 2 other parties. One of them was VERY needy and took most the waiters time. I felt bad because you could tell he didn't want to be rude and wanted to wait on the other tables but the guests keep talking to him. Once he was able to break away, we let him know this was our first time here and he was happy to provide his recommendations, which I always appreciate. We ordered the imperial rolls to start and then the shaky shaky beef and bah mi for main course. They were all excellent although the shaky shaky beef was very overpriced even for the quality. We didn't get any drinks and with tip still spent over $75 for 2 meals and one app."

Have been to the restaurant 3 times total, but this time I have to say was intolerable because of the noise. It was both the talking and the loud music. Couldnt hear the people across the table, let alone the waiter. Sat at a window seat. I don't think I will be back. Its too bad"

  • "Little Sister has been a great addition to the Southbay! I love sharing multiple small plates so we get to taste a great variety of different dishes. The Lobster with the head/body made into fried rice is a must and I was excited to see the soft shell crab banh mi back on the menu. I wish there were more vegetable options but that is a minor issue. Looking for ward to my next meal there!"

  • "The service was simply outstanding from the moment we set foot in this local gem. Unfortunately, even after we eliminated any "spicy" item from our possibilities, everything we ultimately ordered was still too spicy. Despite the service and wonderful flavors, the fire like burn in our mouth was just annoying after awhile. If we decide to return we'll just opt for sauces that are sweeter and not take a chance on what the chef might think is mild."

  • "I have been to Little Sister now a few times and have tried something new each time. The menu is a little overwhelming as there are so many delicious choices, but the waiting staff is always ready with recommendations which have been spot on. We like to go out to places where we can eat family style so at Little Sister we all just order lots of different dishes and share. At our last visit, my teens liked the Shaky, Shaky Beef, I loved the bream. The side of jasmine rice is a definite must. The atmosphere is noisy. and the dress is "beach hip" (jeans or shorts with a nicer shirt for my boys and husband, cute outfits for my daughter and me. I totally recommend this place."

  • "I enjoyed my dinner at Little Sister. For what it is, as an Asian Fusion restaurant, it delivered great service and delicious food. I wouldn't say the food was spectacular given that I would prefer to go to to a Vietnamese restaurant in Gardena or Westminister for the same dish without the presentation fuss or service quality, but for 1/2 the price and just as delicious. But if you are opting for both ambiance, service and good food at the same time, then this place is great for that."

  • "There are a lot of "boutique-y" restaurants in Manhattan Beach that people assume are good because it's a nice area. But the dishes are very thoughtful, savory, and are definitely worth going back for. A few items are a little over priced, but it's probably because that's the standard in the area. A small, but fun atmosphere that I will definitely return to."

  • "Little Sister hits it out of the park on all fronts. The service was outstanding and the food was like nothing I've experienced before. Asian Fusion with a heavy dose of European influence—every dish was an adventure. Not to be missed are the Imperial egg rolls, salt and pepper lobster and an incredible beef tartare. The latter is a dish I will dream of for a very long time. It takes a chef with a clear vision to pull off a menu like this which blends various Asian cuisines (Vietnamese, Thai, Laotian, etc.) seemlessly with classic technique. Hats off to Little Sister for a fabulous meal. P.S. Don't miss the Vietnamese iced coffee."

  • "Food at Little Sister is so creative and tasty. We definitely recommend the crispy imperial rolls (shrimp, crab, pork, glass noodles, crushed peanuts) served with lettuce (for wraps) and dipping sauce, and the carmelized pork shanks. The petite pastry plate comes with a choice of three items. We picked the plum pistachio frangipane tart, honey lavendar creme brulee and green tea gelato with dark chocolate sauce...all yummy. Wine prices are on the pricey side, especially for totally unknown labels. Our server was friendly, attentive, and helpful in describing dishes. The downside was the noise level. This place is energetic enough without the loud music. Carrying on a conversation, even at a table for 2, is almost impossible."

  • "Great food, good service, but the wine list is a gouge with at least a 350% mark up from retail on lots of bottles. A white at $90! Really? Maybe Burgundy but not Napa! The music is great if you wear your pants low around your butt, but most certainly it's not pleasant. Now the chef and his food are so interesting I will put up with the downside again to keep exploring a truly memorable menu. Unfortunately, not a place to go for a romantic meal, or anything where talking at the table with your fellow dinners is important to you. As for the service, it was attentive, helpful, and very pleasant. The price of the food is a bargain, so that offsets my feeling about the wine list prices, plus I'm sure the rent is astronomical in that location."

  • "We found Little Sister while looking on Open Table when we were visiting from our of town. The was our vacation's highlight of all of our dining experiences. From the booty-shaking music to the food (some dishes we literally ordered twice they were so good!) to the follow up thank you call we received from them the next day... This restaurant does it right! We will literally fly back in town just to dine here. Amazing!!!!"

  • "After seeing this on several top restaurant lists recently, (LA Times/Jonathan Gold and Los Angeles magazine) we decided we had to try this. Our waitress was amazing, giving us a hint about some great choices and paced us accordingly. The meatballs are to die for. The pea tendrils were an unexpected hit. The salt and pepper lobster was some work (still in the shell) but well worth it. The small plates gives you room to enjoy the mini-dessert trios. Our Billicart Salmon champagne was a great topper to a memorable evening. "

  • "If you are looking for a flavor explosion, eat at Little Sister in Manhattan Beach. My party of (2) had the imperial rolls and grilled pork spring rolls with the ma la pickles (which were so yummy) as a starter. We then had the grilled prawns, with the green papaya salad. Wonderful combination of flavors here. For the entrée we had the charred sugar cane shrimp, caramelized pork shanks, and then egg noodles. To complement this wonderful food we had a white bordeaux which was excellent and affordable. For dessert we lavished ourselves with peanut butter profiterole (could have been better with a sprinkle of sea salt), classic espresso eclair, and my favorite the lemongrass coconut panna cotta. Fusion at its best!"

We had some Interesting dishes such as Myanmar okra curry, charred sugar cane shrimp, Bhutanese red rice, Indonesian chicken sate, Singapore chili soft shell crab bang mi. All were good, however, it's not something that I can eat often. Music was loud and it was difficult to carry on a conversation. "

  • "That thought popped up in head after dining at Little Sister. The food was delicious, especially the pork shank with the Carmel glaze. So were the noodles with the shrimp and pork. And let's not forget about the imperial roles stuffed with pork and vegetables and lightly deep fried. They served this with lettuce, peanuts and the most delicious sauce. The South Bay has very few decent restaurants. Little Sister is really the best one I've been too. I highly recommend this one. "

  • "Arrived on time at 7pm to a packed house. First of 3 small plates arrived at our table at 8pm, the last one at 8:45 (almost 30 minutes after the 2nd plate). Tables are arranged about 6" apart, so you get very familiar with your neighbors and their food selections. Noise levels are very high in a concrete walled room . All in all, more of an ordeal than I was looking for. Food is very tasty, however. "

My mother was an exceptional cook from Hanoi who cooked with incredible subtle and nuanced french and vietnamese foods and flavors. So I'd like to sand bag the rating, but the waitstaff and owners are doing such a terrific job making consistently spectacular food while providing an enjoyable atmosphere.   • "My husband and I were in LA for business and vacation from NYC. We decided to visited Manhattan Beach before heading to LAX. What a beautiful town on the shore -upscale stores and so nice and clean. Opentable.com helped us find this place and the staff especially the young man who is the manager. He let me try both rice sides because I just wanted plain rice. He walked down the street to bring us complimentary cookies. I've been to some of the most famous to most hole in the wall restaurants and of course culinary talent is essential but to me it's level of service that distinguishes itself. What a nice find on our way home!"
