A word from Little Sister
Little Sister features East-meets-West inspired dishes served in a
relaxed social environment that feels more residential than
restaurant, as if you're being invited into the Chef Tin's home.
Little Sister's menu showcases Chef Tin's take on one of the more
interesting and rich collisions of food and culture that was borne out
of the European colonization of Southeast Asia. Dishes blend and
balance the spices and flavors of Southeast Asia with French
techniques and Dutch and British colonial influences. The menu is
continually and progressively evolving, reflecting inspiration and the
seasons. Chef Tin curates the restaurant's wine and beverage program
with a focus on intriguing labels, both domestically and from around
the world. Craft beer selection includes special batches from The
Brewery at Abigaile, brewed only for the restaurant.

Our server was very helpful in guiding us through the menu and every dish we ordered was good. I was looking forward to ordering the shaky shaky beef that seems to be a favorite of many, but they were running low so instead we ordered the lemongrass beef noodles. It was one of our favorite dishes of the night! We like spicy food and also enjoyed the seafood pot, plus the scallops and Imperial rolls. The only negatives were the noise level (we had a 6:45 PM reservation on a Sunday and it was packed) which made it difficult to talk and that it took a while to eat. Even though it is family style, dishes come out as prepared. It was pretty much one dish at a time, so we were getting full before the last dish came. We definitely would return.

This was my first visit to Lil Sister. The décor is chic and fun, I really like the feel of the place. The wait staff is friendly and helpful as well as patient. The lemon grass noodles are excellent! Everything was well done- my only complaint is for such a nice place- they had the TV over the bar on and a college game playing- which had several people transfixed and shouting- yes shouting at the top of their lungs when Notre Dame scored. I love football- but wanted a nice dinner to catch up with a friend- sadly the TV/Game kept it from being enjoyable. There is a sports bar up the street- these weren't even CA teams playing and not for a playoff place- no reason to have the game on.

Wait staff and atmosphere (loud, unedited rap music) are inconsistent with the high quality food. Service issues included a 40 minute wait for the first course, our waitress was unfamiliar with the menu and couldn't make recommendations (everything is good doesn't cut it) and our glasses were empty for a good 15 minutes. Additionally, I would expect to see higher grade wines paired with this cuisine. I want to come back for the food but, it's not worth it. This could be a neighborhood gem with a new sophisticated music play list, more professional, educated wait staff and a wine sommelier.

The food was amazing, we tried 4 things, loved every one of them. Waiter brought us complementary champagne for our wedding anniversary, what a nice touch! I would recommend the lemongrass beef (but a bit saucy), also the pork belly with leek fondue. Amazing. Definitely not a quiet restaurant, since its small and rectangle shaped with bare cement like walls (decorated, but definitely bounce sound). We will happily be back for another special occasion (our conservative dinner for 2 without wine was $80, not exactly an casual/average meal for us)

Little Sister is a great restaurant that operates on all cylinders from top to bottom. The food is first-rate and the service is informed, warm and friendly. On a street with two other very good and higher profile restaurants, Little Sister more than holds its own place. We will definitely return.

Fun menu with lots of unique dishes. We ordered 6 dishes to share with 3 people so we could try more options and have leftovers. Portions are good size and food was wonderful. Our server was great at helping us pick items and organize service at just the right order and pace. Loved the dessert trio option allowing us to try multiple options and not have to decide between the great desserts! Very noisy but would definitely go again.

The food is fantastic! For two of us, we ordered 3 dishes and got food for 4-6 people. I wish we'd taken half the food home and ordered more dishes to taste. The atmosphere is casual. We didn't like some of the rap music but that's the scene. It's definitely aimed at 30 year olds more than 60 year olds but we still had a great time. It was a tad noisy at 6-7pm but I've heard it gets really noisy later on. I will definitely return.

Food was excellent - exotic ingredients, incredible flavors. I'm in my mid-forties and I was annoyed by the service and music. There were only two tables occupied in the restaurant and our waitress was so engrossed in a conversation with the bartender it took a while for her to saunter over. The music was blaring (especially because the place was empty) and an odd choice (in my opinion). I like my pop music with the screaming lyrics and pounding beat in the car, but not when I am trying to enjoy dinner. The food was so interesting and unique, but the atmosphere felt like Little Sister was trying too hard to be hip.

Cramped, noisy restaurant. Had a reservation but received bar seating instead of a table (no warning--otherwise I wouldn't have gone there!). I love the chef's other restaurant Abigaile. Waitstaff were nice, recommended dishes. Perhaps they should have indicated or asked if we liked very spicy food. The first two dishes were tasty but the second two were so spicy I could not tell anything else. And is typical the noise level was very high.

Although the food we ordered was delicious, I'm not sure I will ever return to Little Sister or recommend it to anyone. I have two major complaints. First, while we dined early (6:15), the noise level quickly became absolutely unbearable. My dining companion and I, seated across from each other at a small table, could not even have a conversation. Second, as a person who eats fish and seafood, but not meat or poultry, I was very disappointed by the lack of options on the menu. There wasn't, for example, a single noodle dish that didn't include meat. And there is almost nothing on the menu for people who are vegetarians.

The food was exceptional and very different. The quality of the ingredients was fresh and everything was very tasty. The fish, similar to seabass, seemed overpriced for the size of the portion. It was good, sauce a little salty but portions could have been twice as large for $33.

Our first visit to Little Sister was for our anniversary, which was ignored by the restaurant staff, although it was mentioned on the reservation. The space is small and intimate, by which I mean we could too easily follow the conversation of our next table neighbors, who were clearly in a first date. Service was quite good, as were our server's recommendations. We started with duck sate, which was outstanding, although the "side order" of fried okra(also quite good) was actually served first. The duck was on a bed of caramelized pear, and was sweet and tasty. This was accompanied by a grilled prawn "salad," which was spicy and contained green papaya slaw. Our main dishes were Imperial roll (crab & duck) and shaky shaky beef, outstanding!

First time dining here and impressed with the taste and quality of food. The only problem was that they brought our dishes in a random haphazard fashion so none of our party were able to eat at the same time. I can handle this with shared appetizers but not with entrees. I think they had a waiter fail to show. When they got to us, they were extremely nice, and even brought a couple of sides we hadn't ordered as a treat to make it up to us, but which then showed up on the bill. I didn't even bother to try to get it corrected, as it was time to leave and nothing was happening smoothly. Food was interesting, unusual, some of it good.

First time here - we came with a group of 3. 2 adults and one food-centric child. It was fantastic - we went with a lot of the waitress' recommendations. 2 entrees and a couple of appetizers between three was the perfect amount of food. The crack noodles were fantastic, as was dessert, and the shaky shaky beef. Dessert is a great way to taste a few different items - our favorite was the strawberry brown butter cake. Fantastic! A must try in Manhattan Beach.

Great find in Manhattan Beach. With so many choices it can be hard to make a decision on where to got. We definitely made the right choice. The space is intimate, modern but also very welcoming, not sterile as some modern spaces can be. We sat at the bar and Raquel our bartender was knowledgeable and attentive. She gave fantastic recommendations both for wine choices and food choices. The food was fantastic, unique Asian food with delicious sauces, lime chili, banana ketchup, shaky shaky beef sauce. I am a sauce girl and I was not disappointed. Check out the Little Sister, you'll love the saucy staff and food!

The sweet clams (and the broth) were excellent as well. Called for an extra order of baguette. Sam, our server, was able to provide an off menu item called thin egg noodles with crispy pork bits.
