Little FishSimply: GREATThis review will be short and sweet. Little fish is one of my favorite restaurants in Philadelphia and I usually don't take the time to write reviews. The food is excellent. They have FISH FISH FISH, and not just the average Joe fish menu.. They select interesting and flavorful fish to put on their menu. Service was fast and the fish was to die for. Don't miss out on this gem if you are looking for great food and did i mention its BYOB???5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMIt just gets better and better!Little Fish continues to be one of the best restaurants in Philly. We tried two apps, all 4 fish entrees, and everything was terrific. The service is great - friendly and very professional. Dessert was great as well.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious and interesting foodLittle Fish has been around for a while and 6 months ago I went there after being away for several years. It was great that time so I tried it again this week. Once again, it was fantastic! It has a range of different fish that is broader and more interesting than a typical seafood restaurant, each with thoughtful distinct preparation that complement the main ingredient, including unexpected combinations of components that make for an interesting and delicious meal! Its a bit pricier than many fish restaurants so not an everyday dinner for me, but completely worth it for a special meal. Its a very pleasant tiny BYO, and the service was excellent - knowledgable and attentive but not intrusive. From this recent N=2, I'll be back!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMA Wonderful FindMy girlfriend and I have been wanting to try Little Fish for a while. Yesterday we grabbed a last minute opening for the Sunday tasting menu. Parking was difficult. Little Fish is a very small, cozy space, with the chefs preparing each dish right behind me in the open kitchen. The five courses consisted of a fresh green salad and bread served with a wonderful green sauce, followed by chirashi sans rice, a huge panned seared scallop with prosciutto (our favorite), grilled swordfish with a spinach puree and fava beans, and finally a light fresh mixed fruit and cream on a sweet biscuit. All were well prepared and imaginative. The service was efficient yet friendly. Little Fish is a gem-- and a bargain at $33 per person for the tasting menu!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMSunday night tasting menuWe were lucky enought to get a recommendation for this restaurant on Friday night, our first night in Philly, and secure a reservation for the Sunday night tasting menu. If you are not familiar with restrictive PA alcohol laws, this is a BYOB restaurant, which is a plus. You bring your own wine, they keep it chilled if needed, open it and pour it for you (no standard restaurant mark up, so you can have nice wine out at a reasonable price. The Food. The tasting menu consisted of five courses, each well thought out, excellently prepared and plated and absolutely delicious. I could bore you with food descriptions, but the bottom line is I'df you like seafood you should go here to eat.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMMelts in your mouthIt seems like the menu is very limited due to the freshness of the products used daily. My husba had the corbia which was crispy and juicy. My fish was truely buttery. It literally melted in my mouth. Will definitely come back again. Dessert was the pumpkin cinabon with coconut ice cream.... Fluffy and smooth. A perfect treat to end a delicious dinner.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious BYOBit was difficult to get a reservation here but well worth the wait. Our table was not ready so we had to wait for 25 minutes but that was OK as we were outside with others waiting and we all opened our wine and started the evening. I ordered the appetizer of spaghetti with clams that were spiced really well. Then I had the Scottish Sea Trout....so so yummy. My husband ordered the cuttle fish appetizer and the Cobia. Portions are very small but I did not leave hungry. For a BYOB it was a special dinner but quite pricy. Three appetizers and four main courses with tip and tax was $130.00 per couple so you can decide. But I will be going back as I have never had fish prepared so well anywhere.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMSmart Food for FoodiesEvery dish at little fish seemed well thought out. The flavors of the many components were always strong but still complementary to the rest of the dish. An example - the acidity of the pickles and pickled radish on the cuttlefish was cooled by the fatty poached egg, so each bite was a flavor packet.
In addition execution was close to flawless - all of the fish was cooked beautifully - the tile fish fell apart in fatty, juicy chunks, the dorade was not the least bit dry yet the skin was a perfectly crispy chip, and the cuttlefish was amazingly tender.
One of the most well-cooked, well thought out meals I have had in Philly.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious FoodWe had a delicious dinner at Little Fish. I had many friends recommend this restaurant and it did not disappoint. I understand that the menu changes daily (or often), but I enjoyed cuttlefish and sea trout. I had never eaten cuttlefish, but it was tasty. The sea trout was amazing - it was served with okra, bar-b-q sauce, buttermilk, and a few other surprises that you would not expect to combine for such a wonderful taste. The service was very good as well. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and plan to return again!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food, wonderfulWonderful food, wonderful service - a fantastic evening overall.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was excellent and soFood was excellent and so was the service. We had a little bit of an issue with food not coming out in a timely manner, but I'm confident that this was a fluke as others around us did not seem to experience this, and the service otherwise was impeccable. I would recommend Little Fish!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMperfectNew menu every night, byob, and amazing raw oysters..... I couldn't want anything else from a restaurant4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMHad an awesome meal, the foodHad an awesome meal, the food was delicious. Only negative to the night was credit card machine not working so had to walk down the street for cash.... it happens. Small and cozy interior and a great dinner experience.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMA Palette's DreamThis restaurant is a hidden.. The Sunday Chef's tasting was a palate's dream for the entire five courses! This is my second time to this restaurant and it continues to amaze me! First a refreshing salad followed by a raw fish appetizer with cucumber and garnish in a delicate sauce. The main courses were a grilled mackerel in a truffle sauce with rhubarb and strawberry, followed by a grilled Kobia fish and red potato salad. To finish off this tasting was a cola cake with cola syrup, grilled pineapple and fresh whip cream. Everything was simply delectable! The service was prompt and attentive and as a BYOB, it cannot be beat!!!!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMYum! Yum! DeliciousExcellent!!! The food was succulent and superbly prepared. Yum! Yum!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThis neighborhood BYOB wasThis neighborhood BYOB was wonderful in everyway. The fish dishes (its an all fish menu) were prepared perfectly. Our table of 6 had just about everything on the menu and we all raved. I will be back to Little Fish soon.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first visit andThis was our first visit and it was worth it. It met the lofty expectations from all the reviews. Food was definitely a step above and unusual combinations that had the extra benefit of being great (fish and lamb? who knew?). Expensive, but worth it and this is the place you bring the better wines.
Two minor comments: 1) for those of us over 60, the menu is hard to read and with a very tall person at the table next to the chalkboard, 1/4 of the menu was covered. 2) only one piece of bread? should at least come around and ask.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMCharming and DeliciousOur whole experience was great. We made reservations on OpenTable and our table was ready and waiting for us when we arrived. We split an salad appetizer which was fresh and delicious. The dressing was light, but flavorful and they mixed in just the right amount. We were both really pleased with our entrees. The fish and accompanying vegetables were prepared perfectly. Our server was well acquainted with the food and made sure our champagne flutes were always full. It was truly a delightful experience.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best seafood restaurantsOne of the best seafood restaurants in the city, hands down.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFresh and DeliciousLove this little restaurant. BYO! They do an excellent job preparing fish and other seafood. Limited menu allows them to keep things fresh and delicious. I've enjoyed it both times I've been.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMLittle Fish in Bella VistaLittle Fish is our favorite seafood spot in Philadelphia. The menu is constantly changing but abides by fresh fish, eclectic ingredients and locally sourced material. On this particular night we started out with a dozen west coast Miyagi oysters. Delicious. And for the starters, we had a scallop dish that was perfectly pan seared with a warm, moist center and cuttlefish served with kimchee. For the main dish we had cobia and halibut the cobia came garnished with an assortment of veggies including garbonzo beans and the halibut came with thin slices of asparagus and nettles, sitting on a bed of tenderly cooked sunflower seeds.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMI would have paid double!Phenomenal! Did a Sunday chef's tasting as our first opportunity here and found it outstanding! Small restaurant that I estimates serves 40 people at a time, which, I guess, makes it manageable for the 2 brother chefs. Best meal I've eaten all year! At $33 for 5 courses, I was astounded at this bargain, and would have paid double that price for this meal. Located a few streets below South St. BYOB. Looking forward to our next outing here, where I can try what's on the regular menu!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMLittle Fish is as good asLittle Fish is as good as it gets. This is an extraordinary restaurant. Every menu item is creative and unusual - but interesting. It would be fun to try everything! Nothing needs to be singled out be ause each and every presentation is superb.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMBest fresh fish and alwaysBest fresh fish and always interesting presentations!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful! The food was delicious, we had the salmon and it was cooked to perfection.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and service are superb! YThe food and service are superb!
You must try the scallops.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was excellent. The menuFood was excellent. The menu constantly changes, so I won't comment on the individual plates other than they were outstanding. The staff knows the menu inside and out, and was able to tell me all about the fishes that I didn't quite know. Assuming you go with someone else, I'd suggest getting some type of appetizer, a first course for each of you, and then share the second course. That leaves enough room for dessert.
The restaurant is small, so it ends up being a very intimate experience. A bit noisy, but that's to be expected with such a small setting. Since they don't have a lot of tables, be sure to reserve a seat a little bit in advance, especially if you have more than 2 people. Bring your own wine as it a BYOB.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMOnly a few restaurants I willOnly a few restaurants I will repeatedly visit in Philly, and Little Fish is at the top of the list.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMHighly recommended by my coHighly recommended by my co workers and we were not disappointed! I was pleasantly surprized how comfortable we were. Our waitress was extremely helpfull in explaining the menu. There were foods in which we had never heard of or have eaten. She explained them very well. We tried them for the 1st time and enjoyed them very much. For such a small setting I have to say we did not feel that once seated. Extremely comfortable. The food was very very good. I would recommend Little Fish for sure. Overall experience was excellant...Mark and Gwendolyn Ratner3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMDifferent but great and intimateDifferent but great and intimate - thoroughly good experience and, of course, excellent food, well presesented - quality rather than the usual over-facing quantity - therefore a terrific experience.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAgain, Little Fish is theAgain, Little Fish is the best seafood in Philadelphia. Nothing else comes close; their creativity, execution, and service were outstanding as usual.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMSunday bargain. Excellent.Chefs menu on Sunday a bargain. 5 courses each one better than the last. Dessert was not the same level as rest of meal, but overshadowed by excellent French press coffee. Outstanding service. Would highly recommend.3/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
