A word from Little Fish
Little Fish was founded in the mid-'90s to the delight of Queen Village foodies and pretty much all Philadelphians who give a hoot about great seafood. Chef Chadd Jenkins purchased the long-established BYOB in September 2011 which he had been overseeing as the Chef de Cuisine since 2008. Convention says that when you purchase a successful business you maintain it. Little Fish continues to offer flavors and daring combinations to the recognition of Bon Appétit magazine — 3rd Best New Seafood Restaurant in the USA — and the delight of The New York Times. Little Fish recently swam up stream and reopened in a new location, a stone's throw from its original location where Little Fish continues to earn accolades from national and local press. Most importantly, Little Fish continues to feed old friends and serve new fans every day. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Great BYOB but plan on a long dining experience. We were the only table for two with only one bottle. Ran out between courses for our second! Atmosphere was great "

  • "There is nothing tiny about the ambition and accomplishment here. For a Sunday tasting menu, every single element of every single course was absolutely delicious! The service was warm and welcoming. The whole experience was a treat."

  • "The fish was unique. Not fish you would find in most restaurants. Presentation of food was very nice and an interesting mixture of ingredients. The menu is small, not a bad thing, just have to be willing to try new things. I had never had any of the fish on the entree menu. I was happlily surprised, it was delicious! It a BYOB, and a little pricey. (About 100 for 2) and that's without dessert. But if you are into seafood, worth a try."

  • "limited menu but excellent blends of flavors. Service was spot on as 2 servers worked the whole room which was limited to 26 seats. Would definitely go again."

  • "I live in the neighborhood and don't get to Little Fish as often as I should... First we started out with raw oysters. They were perfectly shucked, clean, crisp, and refreshing.Perfect start to the meal. We then got the octopus and ramp stuffed pasta with a sauce of shrimp topped with shaved truffles! It was amazing! The octopus was tender and not chewy. The star of the show was the shrimp and pasta dish. The pasta was stuffed with a ramp pesto and teas topped with a silky sauce that was still very light and tasty and topped with shaved truffles! Little Fish has been around a while, so I think people sometimes always want to try the new places....but keep Little Fish in your rotation. You will be rewarded!"

  • "We got an 8pm seating for two on Sunday. The 5 course dinner was amazing. Each fish course was perfectly prepared and interesting. We can't wait to go back and have plans to bring out of town guests."

  • "This is probably my 3rd or 4th review of Little Fish. The atmosphere is always great and very chill. The menu changes constantly which is something that I love because you can go to this place over and over again and it would be hard to have the exact same dish twice. We started off with the octopus and the lobster apps followed by the striped bass and skate wing entrees. Everything was excellent and the portions were great. Even though we were quite full we ordered dessert which was a chocolate brownies with ice cream and a few other tasty things with it. It was enormous so definitely plan to split that baby because I would have had trouble taking the whole thing down by myself even if I was still hungry. Fantastic dinner as usual."

  • "Can't say enough good things about Little Fish, we always have the most amazing meals! Every dish excels in taste and presentation. Love it! Looking forward to our next Little Fish dinner. See you soon!"

  • "We had perfectly cooked Tasmanian Sea Trout. The lobster and lamb appetizer was probably the most original lobster dish I've ever experienced - very tasty. I would have enjoyed a kale salad or Brussels sprouts - or some other salad or vegetable choice. The menu was a bit pricey for the experience."

  • "I took my boyfriend here for his birthday . We had a little bit of a wait even though we had a reservation, but it was understandable because it was pouring rain outside and no one wanted to leave! We started with the lobster and lamb appetizer and it was incredible. Our meals were also delicious. I liked the fact that the menu was rather short, because it was easier to choose something. Our waitress was attentive and very nice, and apologized for our wait. She even came out with a free dessert for us due to us having to wait a little to be seated. Overall was a great experience and will definitely be back."

  • "Little Fish is our all time favorite restaurant in Philly. The seasonal menu is consistently creative and mind-blowingly delicious."

  • "The food was good -- great, even -- but my expectations were high as many friends/family had dined with only rave reviews. The food was not spectacular but inventive, interesting & tasty. I loved the pomelo/red snapper but could have done without all of the conceptual pieces in our albacore dish. Overall - great experience & looking forward to a different variety of dishes on next visit."

  • "One of, if not, THE best restaurants in Philly. I've visited multiple times, each visit better than the last. The creativity put into dishes is obscene. Well done, yet again."

  • "This is a very tiny restaurant with not good ambiance. The servers are friendly and helpful. My wife is very picky. She probably would have stayed if they has a more standard presentation. She may have had the snapper if it did not have clams in it, etc. We both had an appetizer. My wife had a shrimp dish and enjoyed it. She almost did not order it because it was made with miso and cabbage. I had the raw tuna with faux gras and it was awesome. With a salad, I probably could have called it a night, but . . . There was no salad on the menu! My wife did not like that too much. All in all, I thought the presentation and taste of the food was excellent. I would recommend this restaurant to someone I know appreciates a wide variety of foods."

  • "We ordered the trout and bass on the menu, and they were both incredibly delicious. It was the kind of meal that you never want to get to the last bite, as to not end the blissful exerience. The only advice we'd have is to have a salad of the day, and enhance the dessert menu... maybe creme brûlée and tiramisu? At any rate, Little Fish is definitely a neighborhood gem, you'll want to experience!"

  • "Went back for chef's tasting menu on Sunday and Little Fish defended their title of best seafood in Philadelphia. Nothing comes close, and the tasting is an incredible bargain - no way you'd find 5 courses of that quality for $35pp anywhere else. Coming back as soon as possible!"

  • "I have been to Little Fish's Sunday 5-course price fixe before and was wowed by it, but not this time. Surprised by the change in locations (though the new place is very similar), this meal was heavy-handed and clumsy, with odd combinations (shrimp and pulled pork? really?), that coming from someone who likes odd food combinations. Took my daughter, a recent culinary school grad who works at Stateside, and she agreed that the meal was eh, ok, not bad but not great. Have they changed chefs since I was last there? Regardless, the meal was a let-down due to past Little Fish fantastic meals. I really hope this isn't the start of a decline of one of Philly's long standing fantastic BYOB's but I'm hesitant to return or recommend at this point."

  • "The Sunday No Menu is a great deal for $33 but the food is excellent and always interesting. I really enjoy the no menu concept and just sit back and let the dishes come. Been there 3 times and always different. Great little place and excellent and friendly service."

  • "The food and service was absolutely fantastic. The mistake was more our decision with the appetizers. We ordered two and the octopus was just to filling. It took away from the main course. We where just to full at that point. The server did tell us their appetizers where for sharing. Maybe they should stess that. If you're a party of two then split just one appetizer. All considered, we would definetly go back and highly recommend Little Fish. You will enjoy it."

  • "I said I wouldn't give Little Fish another chance but succumbed to the pressure from my spouse the other evening when he wanted to go out for a special occasion. Again I was disappointed in the menu selection and high prices of this little BYO. How is it that I can walk out of a BYO and still pay almost $100 for two entrees and one appetizer. I am baffled at how they can charge these kinds of prices for mediocre meals. I could have an excellent meal including wine a block away at Bistrot La Minette for the same price - and give them a favorable review. I will not return to Little Fish again."

  • "We had a later reservation which was all the was available. The server initially seemed to be over his shift that evening but once we were seated and settled in everything was great. The server was very knowledgable of every aspect of the menu and made some great suggestions. The restaurant was less than half full and fairly quiet for being on the smaller side. It was dimly lit and had a very cozy atmosphere. Between the trout and skate fish dishes the skate dish was easily the favorite. Overall great restaurant!!!"

  • "Inventive delightful seafood restaurant. Imaginative pairing of fish with unusual layers of vegetable, meat and sauce flavors and textures. Dishes ranged from very good to inspired and sparkling. BYOB eased the sticker shock. Didn't give the restaurant 5 stars for food because on this occasion our piece of striped bass was not quite the right quality and didn't appear to have been seared as described by the server. This said, we would happily return!"

  • "My fiancée and I were recommended Little Fish by many foodie friends and we went in with high expectations. While the menu was interesting, and food preparation and presentation excellently executed, the flavor was underwhelming. The quality of the food is excellent and if you are one to appreciate textures like foams and crunch over taste then little fish may be for you. The atmosphere and people are lovely (although the pandora station playing didn't quiet fit the ambiance )."

  • "I took a customer from LA to a Philly best for seafood. She is a tough critic, Little Fish lived up to all my hype. The food is the centerpiece. Freshly prepared in front of you with the open kitchen. Not a bad item on the menu. A must when you want a very different and intimate experience from the huge, loud trendy spots in Philly."

  • "This restaurant was the perfect little valentines date for us. Candle lit, small, and intimate. And their Sunday night deal is amazing!"

  • "Went for Sunday prixe fixe menu. 2/5 dishes were 'good' 3/5 were just 'okay'. Nothing was exceptional. The experience is cool - eating the same thing at the same time with a roomful of people, seeing the plates being prepared. We just wished the food was better. Probably won't be back. Too many other places to try."

  • "After hearing rave reviews from friends I decided to make a reservation for my husband and I the day after Valentines Day. Little Fish is a very small & intimate place, perfect for a special evening. It's an open kitchen (which we love) and I also appreciated the single hand-written menu on each table- it was romantic to share. The menu was a selective and perfected list!! We started with the East Coast Oysters (omg amazing!) and the Octopus (holy cow!!). The tentacles were so tender, juicy and HUGE. "This is seriously the best thing I've ever eaten in my life" were my hubby's exact words. Our entrees were so delicious we decided to split up our plates and share the entrees..too good not to have both. Let's just say we'll def be back!"

  • "The service for such a small place could have been better than it was, however this was the best seafood I've ever had in my life. Each ingredient worked so perfectly with the next that it made even the weird ones seem as if everyone should cook with them. The seafood was cooked so perfectly that nothing was taken away from the fish either. I will definitely be going back again in the future."

  • "Little Fish is a very intimate little place that turns out some of the tastiest seafood dishes you will ever have. It is fairly pricey with entrees in the $32-$36 range but it is well worth it (it's BYOB so all in all in won't break the bank). Little Fish is probably one of my top 3 favorite restaurants in Philadelphia. You must try it."
