A word from Little Fish
Little Fish was founded in the mid-'90s to the delight of Queen Village foodies and pretty much all Philadelphians who give a hoot about great seafood. Chef Chadd Jenkins purchased the long-established BYOB in September 2011 which he had been overseeing as the Chef de Cuisine since 2008. Convention says that when you purchase a successful business you maintain it. Little Fish continues to offer flavors and daring combinations to the recognition of Bon Appétit magazine — 3rd Best New Seafood Restaurant in the USA — and the delight of The New York Times. Little Fish recently swam up stream and reopened in a new location, a stone's throw from its original location where Little Fish continues to earn accolades from national and local press. Most importantly, Little Fish continues to feed old friends and serve new fans every day. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The service was unsatisfactory. We had to wait far too much time after our appetizer was finished for our entree. In addition, there was a mistake on our bill as we were charged for 2 different appetizers when we only ordered one. Given the number of tables the waitress had to service it was surprising to have this error."

  • "Little Fish is a wonderful neighborhood find serving incredible food. It was my first oyster experience in Philadelphia, and it was incredible. Little Fish is a top seafood establishment in line with other fresh seafood restaurants in coastal cities. The plates were beautiful to look at, well-balanced in flavor, and all components of the dish were cooked to perfection. I will be returning soon."

  • " After 9 years of dining on and off at little fish, I have to sadly give it one star. We were four ordered 4 apps, 4 entrees and 1 dessert (they only offer one) and 4 coffees. We paid and not 2 minutes after we signed, waitress asked if she could move us and our drinks outside (temp = 50's). 2-3 minutes later she shows up again PICKS UP OUR BOTTLE AND GLASSES and asks if we would mind if she moves us outside once more. We said "no thank you".She said:(paraphrased) "I'm sorry but we allow 2 hours per seating and there are people waiting for your table." I told her in 20 years of dining in Philly, I had never seen this.We were all a little shocked and the whole thing wrinkled an otherwise pleasant dinner. Ate here for 9 years. Never again"

  • "My sister and I were visiting Philly and noted the comments on Little Fish; we booked on opentable. First, this is a BYOB spot which we missed on the Opentable writeup. To their credit, they tried to contact us to make sure we were aware but we didn't connect so we enjoyed the meal with water. The server noted a wine shop w/in walking distance. They have a short menu, but all very interesting. We had oysters and lobster for starters and then Tuna and Salmon for mains. All excellently prepared. We really liked the ambience, 2 cooks working away, 1 server, a max of 30 patrons. Everybody was relaxed, enjoyed their meal as we watched the neighborhood go about its business. A lovely evening."

  • "The quality of the actual food was evident in both the dishes and the prices of the plates. The food was marvelous, though, and that's what really matters."

  • "We went for Sunday tasting menu. Everything was outstanding. Thanks! We enjoyed our meal a lot"

  • "Having gone to Little Fish twice now for special occasion dinners, I can say it is outstanding! The first time we had two oysters, a First (Starter) and two Seconds (Main dishes) and a dessert. While the second time, we were more swayed by the Firsts than the Seconds, and got two oysters (With Lime, Cucumber, and White Soy), then we ordered the Scallop First, Octopus first and Lobster first, followed by the Ivory King Salmon Second...Thankfully they split up the dishes providing the Scallop and Octopus firsts as our appetizers and then the Salmon, followed by the Lobster. We finished off our meal with the Chocolate Chiffon cake, which was an amazing capstone on a delicious meal."

  • "Although the restaurant is very small and the seating tight it is well worth the visit. The food was outstanding and prepared perfectly. Service was more than adequate. Highly recommended"

  • "This past Friday evening was our fourth visit to Little Fish. Have only had good experiences. Certainly ranks as one of our favorite restaurants. The seafood is always impeccably fresh, the preparation exhibits solid technique and the plating is always attractive. Consistently very good. Keep up the good work!"

  • "If you like fish - especially grilled or baked, and prepared with excellent and imaginative accompaniments then this is the restaurant you must visit. Limited menu but fresh fish almost always. BYOB. Been there many times and never disappointed. It's small size makes reservation s advisable"

  • "Really can't say enough good things about Little Fish. From the appetizer to dessert, every dish is expertly prepared. Pick anything off the menu and you won't be disappointed! The seafood is super fresh and the fish is cooked to perfection. Love Little Fish!!"

  • "Absolutly delicious. I am not a fish lover and enjoyed every bite. I'll go back again."

  • "We went for the Sunday tasting menu. The menu was interesting and varied. Everything was good. Nothing quite knock our socks off. There were minor things I didn't like, like the desert was a combination of cake, ice cream, and strawberries, but I think the balance was off. We finished the ice cream and strawberries and were left with dry cake at the end. The environment and service are very pleasant. Romantic, but low key and comfortable with unobtrusive service. I'd definitely go again."

  • "We've been fans of Little Fish for many years, through its various locations and iterations. This time....just too much going on in each dish. One of the reasons we've enjoyed the restaurant is the focus on the fish. With so many elements and competing flavors on each plate that focus was lost. Additionally, the sauce on the snapper dish had an unpleasant mouth-feel (like undissolved or too much thickener?)...maybe an error at the time of finishing that particular dish...but, in the end, we left somewhat disappointed. "

  • "This has become one of my favorite restaurants in Philadelphia. The chef puts together incredible combinations of flavors, many of which I have never seen or experienced before. The quality of the fish/seafood is obviously about as good as it gets, and the preparations are exceptional. Prices are not cheap (mid-$30s for fish entres), but good luck finding seafood like this for any less. The fact that it is a BYOB also helps! HIGHLY recommend for foodies and fans of seafood!"

  • "Just love it. It's intimate, no-fuss mood and food, and I feel lucky to live in Philadelphia so I can frequent it."

  • "Creating and presenting perhaps the best fresh fish entrees in the city. The menu (posted daily) is limited, and the dining room is quite compact, but there's nothing small or restrained about the size, quality or opulent presentation of the dishes. And it's not cheap in price either (entrees typically run from the low to mid 30s), but you'd be hard-pressed to find such innovative, intriguing and downright ichthy-licious dishes in the whole city. Our group sampled each of the four entrees featured - halibut, sea trout, black bass and opah, a Hawaiian tuna-type fish - and all were superb, though the halibut edged the others in a final vote. The Sunday night tasting menu appears to be a very good deal at $38 for a less costly option."

  • "It was a special night. Wanted to try a top-rated restaurant for the occasion. Was expecting to order something like scallops, or shrimp (not a huge fish fan unless it's raw), and was surprised to find that literally everything on the menu was fish. One veggie option, one thing'o lobster and octopus, but everything else, FISH! However, I was pleasantly surprised as I enjoyed Black Bass for the first time. It was delicious. 10/10 would dine again. "

  • "I first visited Little Fish in September 2012 and was blown away. This was my first time dining there since and it was just as good. The two chefs in the open kitchen worked diligently to accommodate a full dining room of 25-30 people and every dish seemed as if it were carefully prepared for each of us. Subtle touches like coconut/pistachio in the lobster appetizer & duck/miso foam in the shrimp elevate the dishes to a level you just don't find often. The halibut was served at the perfect temperature and the bulbs of both avocado and carrot puree were not only aesthetically pleasing, but also a delight to the taste buds. Little Fish just may be the best restaurant in town and I love that its popularity has not changed their values. "

  • "I have had been here twice now and am so impressed with the food and service. The food is mind blowing! Each dish is unique and all of the accompanying ingredients compliment the fish so well. The menu is fresh everyday and you can certainly taste it. What a great BYOB for special occasions. And our server, Luis, was spectacular as well! I love everything about this place!"

  • "Wife and I went here recently and we both loved it. There's no waiting area, you come in off the street right into the dining room. Several tables outside too. You're not dining out for décor, it's for the food, and Little Fish comes up big. Black Bass with almonds and grapes was delicious. Some sort of creamy almond sauce, wonderful. Wife had the Tasmanian Sea Trout, also very nice. We didn't order anything else b/c we were headed up the road for crepes for desert, but we'll be back."

  • "We first tried Little Fish a few years ago. We were astonished at the creativity and personal flare the chef's bring to the menu. At first glance it appears to be a neighborhood cafe set in South Philly. Inside the restaurant is more appropriately designed to look like a restaurant but decor is not their hook. I don't mean to say it's shabby by any means. What I mean is that on no scale is the decor near the outstanding quality of the food. The menu arrives handwritten on a long strip of paper. Why? Because it changes depending on what the chefs find in the market. The creativity is absolutely fabulous and the flavors are spot on. 100% no doubt a spectacular dining experience. Bring wine - BYOB!!!"

  • "The chef remained - the rest of the line is a new group. To me anyway - I'm not sure when the change happened. And they must be inspiring to The Man because what we had previously considered as perfect has been improved upon. Wonderful food and delightful servers in a pleasant space overlooking a cozy neighborhood - does it get any better? "

  • "We have been going to little fish for years for special occasions. I feel bad that the first time I am taking time to write a review, it is not a great one. Usually my food at little fish is out of this world good. I have never had an average meal here, until this weekend. My husband loved his meal, but my entree (red snapper) fell short, and obviously had been sitting for a little (the periphery of the plated food was a little cool). It wasn't bad, but it wasn't up to par. There was also an extremely long wait between our appetizers(the octopus and asparagus were awesome), and out entrees. I think their pacing was a bit off. I usually love the whole experience...but this weekend's visit fell a little short. "
